DESCRIPTION
Open the file @var{filename} (using <<fopen>>) with the target
@var{target}. Return a pointer to the created BFD.
Calls <<bfd_find_target>>, so @var{target} is interpreted as by
that function.
If <<NULL>> is returned then an error has occured. Possible errors
2002-10-06 11:03:06 +02:00
are <<bfd_error_no_memory>>, <<bfd_error_invalid_target>> or
<<system_call>> error.

DESCRIPTION
2002-10-06 11:03:06 +02:00
<<bfd_fdopenr>> is to <<bfd_fopenr>> much like <<fdopen>> is to
<<fopen>>. It opens a BFD on a file already described by the
@var{fd} supplied.
When the file is later <<bfd_close>>d, the file descriptor will
be closed. If the caller desires that this file descriptor be
cached by BFD (opened as needed, closed as needed to free
descriptors for other opens), with the supplied @var{fd} used as
an initial file descriptor (but subject to closure at any time),
call bfd_set_cacheable(bfd, 1) on the returned BFD. The default
is to assume no cacheing; the file descriptor will remain open
until <<bfd_close>>, and will not be affected by BFD operations
on other files.
Possible errors are <<bfd_error_no_memory>>,
<<bfd_error_invalid_target>> and <<bfd_error_system_call>>.

o bfd_read and bfd_write lose an unnecessary param and become
bfd_bread and bfd_bwrite.
o bfd_*alloc now all take a bfd_size_type arg, and will error if
size_t is too small. eg. 32 bit host, 64 bit bfd, verrry big files
or bugs in linker scripts etc.
o file_ptr becomes a bfd_signed_vma. Besides matching sizes with
various other types involved in handling sections, this should make
it easier for bfd to support a 64 bit off_t on 32 bit hosts that
provide it.
o I've made the H_GET_* and H_PUT_* macros (which invoke bfd_h_{get,put}_*)
generally available. They now cast their args to bfd_vma and
bfd_byte * as appropriate, which removes a swag of casts from the
source.
o Bug fixes to bfd_get8, aix386_core_vec, elf32_h8_relax_section, and
aout-encap.c.
o Zillions of formatting and -Wconversion fixes.
