Jan Kratochvil 1c4ff0802b Revert: Code cleanup: Move print_command_1 expr variable scope
Simon Marchi:

I think this patch is wrong. Starting with that commit (f30d5c7),
some tests (e.g. mi-break.exp) started to fail for me, because
of gdb segfaulting.

The address of expr is passed to the cleanup. When the cleanup is ran,
expr is no longer in scope, so what is at that address is probably not
safe to use anymore. That's my guess.

Pedro Alves 492d29ea1c Split TRY_CATCH into TRY + CATCH
This patch splits the TRY_CATCH macro into three, so that we go from
this:

~~~
  volatile gdb_exception ex;
  TRY_CATCH (ex, RETURN_MASK_ERROR)
    {
    }
  if (ex.reason < 0)
    {
    }
~~~

to this:

~~~
  TRY
    {
    }
  CATCH (ex, RETURN_MASK_ERROR)
    {
    }
  END_CATCH
~~~

Thus, we'll be getting rid of the local volatile exception object, and
declaring the caught exception in the catch block.

This allows reimplementing TRY/CATCH in terms of C++ exceptions when
building in C++ mode, while still allowing to build GDB in C mode
(using setjmp/longjmp), as a transition step.

TBC, after this patch, is it _not_ valid to have code between the TRY
and the CATCH blocks, like:

  TRY
    {
    }

  // some code here.

  CATCH (ex, RETURN_MASK_ERROR)
    {
    }
  END_CATCH

Just like it isn't valid to do that with C++'s native try/catch.

By switching to creating the exception object inside the CATCH block
scope, we can get rid of all the explicitly allocated volatile
exception objects all over the tree, and map the CATCH block more
directly to C++'s catch blocks.

The majority of the TRY_CATCH -> TRY+CATCH+END_CATCH conversion was
done with a script, rerun from scratch at every rebase, no manual
editing involved. After the mechanical conversion, a few places
needed manual intervention, to fix preexisting cases where we were
using the exception object outside of the TRY_CATCH block, and cases
where we were using "else" after a 'if (ex.reason) < 0)' [a CATCH
after this patch]. The result was folded into this patch so that GDB
still builds at each incremental step.

END_CATCH is necessary for two reasons:

First, because we name the exception object in the CATCH block, which
requires creating a scope, which in turn must be closed somewhere.
Declaring the exception variable in the initializer field of a for
block, like:

  #define CATCH(EXCEPTION, mask) \
    for (struct gdb_exception EXCEPTION; \
         exceptions_state_mc_catch (&EXCEPTION, MASK); \
	 EXCEPTION = exception_none)

would avoid needing END_CATCH, but alas, in C mode, we build with C90,
which doesn't allow mixed declarations and code.

Second, because when TRY/CATCH are wired to real C++ try/catch, as
long as we need to handle cleanup chains, even if there's no CATCH
block that wants to catch the exception, we need for stop at every
frame in the unwind chain and run cleanups, then rethrow. That will
be done in END_CATCH.

After we require C++, we'll still need TRY/CATCH/END_CATCH until
cleanups are completely phased out -- TRY/CATCH in C++ mode will
save/restore the current cleanup chain, like in C mode, and END_CATCH
catches otherwise uncaugh exceptions, runs cleanups and rethrows, so
that C++ cleanups and exceptions can coexist.

IMO, this still makes the TRY/CATCH code look a bit more like a
newcomer would expect, so IMO worth it even if we weren't considering
C++.

Pedro Alves fe978cb071 C++ keyword cleanliness, mostly auto-generated
This patch renames symbols that happen to have names which are
reserved keywords in C++.

Most of this was generated with Tromey's cxx-conversion.el script.
Some places where later hand massaged a bit, to fix formatting, etc.
And this was rebased several times meanwhile, along with re-running
the script, so re-running the script from scratch probably does not
result in the exact same output. I don't think that matters anyway.

Yao Qi 91256dc2fb Show new created display
When I run refactored unavailable.exp, I find
command display behaves a little different on live inferior and on
examining traceframes. In live inferior, when command "display argc"
is typed, the value of "argc" is shown.

(gdb) display argc
1: argc = 1 '\001'

however, on tfile target, when command "display argc" is typed, the
value of "argc" is not shown.

(gdb) tfind
Found trace frame 0, tracepoint 1
    at ../../../../git/gdb/testsuite/gdb.trace/unavailable.cc:198
198       i =  (int) argc + argi + argf + argd + argstruct.memberi + argarray[1];
(gdb) display argc

I also notice that on "core" target, the value of "argc" isn't shown
either. This difference is caused by the code below in printcmd.c:display_command,

      if (from_tty && target_has_execution)
        do_one_display (new);

Looks the value of each display is shown if the target has execution.
Source code archaeology doesn't tell much about this requirement.
However, if we type command "display" then on "core" or "tfile"
target, the value of "argc" is still displayed,

for "core" target,
(gdb) display argc
(gdb) display
1: argc = 1 '\001'

for "tfile" target,
(gdb) display argc
(gdb) display
1: argc = <unavailable>

I feel that it is not necessary to have such "target has execution"
requirement to show the value of new created display. Auto-display is
a feature to show the value of expression frequently, has nothing to
do with whether target has execution or not. On the other hand, GDB
has the requirement for new created display, but command "display" can
still show them, this is an inconsistency, which should be fixed.

This patch is to remove the checking to target_has_execution from the
condition.

gdb:

	* printcmd.c (display_command): Remove the check to
	target_has_execution.

Tom Tromey 77e371c079 start change to progspace independence
This patch starts changing minimal symbols to be independent of the
program space.

Specifically, it adds a new objfile parameter to MSYMBOL_VALUE_ADDRESS
and changes all the code to use it. This is needed so we can change
gdb to apply the section offset when a minsym's address is computed,
as opposed to baking the offsets into the symbol itself.

A few spots still need the unrelocated address. For these, we
introduce MSYMBOL_VALUE_RAW_ADDRESS.

As a convenience, we also add the new macro BMSYMBOL_VALUE_ADDRESS,
which computes the address of a bound minimal symbol. This just does
the obvious thing with the fields.

Note that this change does not actually enable program space
independence. That requires more changes to gdb. However, to ensure
that these changes compile properly, this patch does add the needed
section lookup code to MSYMBOL_VALUE_ADDRESS -- it just ensures it has
no effect at runtime by multiplying the offset by 0.

Tom Tromey efd66ac669 change minsym representation
In a later patch we're going to change the minimal symbol address
calculation to apply section offsets at the point of use. To make it
simpler to catch potential problem spots, this patch changes the
representation of minimal symbols and introduces new
minimal-symbol-specific variants of the various accessors. This is
necessary because it would be excessively ambitious to try to convert
all the symbol types at once.

The core of this change is just renaming a field in minimal_symbol;
the rest is just a fairly mechanical rewording.

Honggyu Kim e261678878 Remove duplicated #include's from GDB
This patch simply removes duplicated #include statements in the gdb/
directory. If there are two duplicated #include statements, this patch
keeps the first #include and removes the second.

Those duplicates have been found by using the checkincludes.pl tool from
the Linux kernel and double checked manually once again if the #include
statements are affected by #ifdef macros.

Tom Tromey 50b34a18ed fix for PR gdb/15995
This patch fixes PR gdb/15995.

The bug here is that gdb's printf command does not flush the output
stream. This makes a printf that is not newline-terminated interleave
incorrectly with other forms of output, such as that generated via a
call to an external program using "shell".

I note that the "output" command already does this flushing.

The fix is to call gdb_flush in printf_command.

Built and regtested on x86-64 Fedora 18.
New test case included.

	PR gdb/15995:
	* printcmd.c (printcmd): Call gdb_flush.

	* gdb.base/printcmds.exp (test_printf): Test printf flushing.

Tom Tromey 7c7b66552d remove msymbol_objfile
This is another patch in my ongoing series to "split" objfile to share
more read-only data across inferiors. See

    http://sourceware.org/gdb/wiki/ObjfileSplitting

When symbols are finally shared, there will be no back-link from the
symbol to its containing objfile, because there may be more than one
such objfile. So, all such back-links must be removed.

One hidden back-link is the msymbol_objfile function. Since
(eventually) a symbol may appear in more than one objfile, trying to
look up the objfile given just a symbol cannot work.

This patch removes msymbol_objfile in favor of using a bound minimal
symbol. It introduces a new function to make this conversion simpler
in some spots.

The bonus of this patch is that using msymbol_objfile is slower than
simply looking up the owning objfile in the first place.

Built and regtested on x86-64 Fedora 18.

	* ada-exp.y (write_var_or_type): Use bound_minimal_symbol.
	* ada-lang.c (ada_lookup_simple_minsym): Return

Will Newton fe8400b438 gdb/printcmd.c: Fix printing of Thumb minimal symbols.
In build_address_symbolic we call gdbarch_addr_bits_remove for
symbols in the symbol table but not for minimal symbols. This
causes a failure in gdb.cp/virtfunc.exp on ARM, as the address
of the virtual thunk is given an offset of 1 when in Thumb mode.

gdb/ChangeLog:

	* printcmd.c (build_address_symbolic): Call
	gdbarch_addr_bits_remove for text minimal symbols.

Tom Tromey 27833de78f fix print_command_1
This is a stylistic patch to make it so the checker can analyze
print_command_1. This amounts to installing an outer cleanup and
unconditionally invoking it.

Pedro Alves f81d112039 Accept "set foo unlimited" in integer/uinteger/zuinteger_unlimited commands.
Currently, several commands take "0" or "-1" to mean "unlimited".

"show" knows when to print "unlimited":

 (gdb) show height
 Number of lines gdb thinks are in a page is 45.
 (gdb) set height 0
 (gdb) show height
 Number of lines gdb thinks are in a page is unlimited.

However, the user can't herself specify "unlimited" directly:

 (gdb) set height unlimited
 No symbol table is loaded. Use the "file" command.
 (gdb)

This patch addresses that, by adjusting the set handler for all
integer/uinteger/zuinteger_unlimited commands to accept literal
"unlimited". It also installs a completer. Presently, we complete on
symbols by default, and at
<http://sourceware.org/ml/gdb-patches/2013-03/msg00864.html> I've
shown a WIP prototype that tried to keep that half working in these
commands. In the end, it turned out to be more complicated than
justifiable, IMO. It's super rare to want to pass the value of a
variable/symbol in the program to a GDB set/show knob. That'll still
work, it's just that we won't assist with completion anymore. This
patch just sticks with the simple, and completes on "unlimited", and
nothing else. This simplification means that

  "set he<tab><tab>"

is all it takes to get to:

  "set height unlimited"

The patch then goes through all integer/uinteger/zuinteger_unlimited
commands in the tree, and updates both the online help and the manual
to mention that "unlimited" is accepted in addition to 0/-1. In the
cases where the command had no online help text at all, this adds it.
I've tried to make the texts read in a way that "unlimited" is
suggested before "0" or "-1" is.

Tested on x86_64 Fedora 17.

Pedro Alves 6f937416b9 Constify strings in tracepoint.c, lookup_cmd and the completers.
This is sort of a continuation of Keith's parse_exp_1 constification
patch. It started out by undoing these bits:

  @@ -754,9 +754,12 @@ validate_actionline (char **line, struct
   	  tmp_p = p;
   	  for (loc = t->base.loc; loc; loc = loc->next)
   	    {
  -	      p = tmp_p;
  -	      exp = parse_exp_1 (&p, loc->address,
  +	      const char *q;
  +
  +	      q = tmp_p;
  +	      exp = parse_exp_1 (&q, loc->address,
   				 block_for_pc (loc->address), 1);
  +	      p = (char *) q;

and progressively making more things const upwards, fixing fallout,
rinse repeat, until GDB built again (--enable-targets=all).

That ended up constifying lookup_cmd/add_cmd and (lots of) friends,
and the completers.

I didn't try to constify the command hooks themselves, because I know
upfront there are commands that write to the command string argument,
and I think I managed to stop at a nice non-hacky split point already.

I think the only non-really-super-obvious changes are
tracepoint.c:validate_actionline, and tracepoint.c:trace_dump_actions.

The rest is just mostly about 'char *' => 'const char *', 'char **'=>
'const char **', and the occasional (e.g., deprecated_cmd_warning)
case of 'char **'=> 'const char *', where/when I noticed that nothing
actually cares about the pointer to pointer output.

Tested on x86_64 Fedora 17, native and gdbserver.

Joel Brobecker d9eaeb59a4 Name of symbol missing when printing global variable's address
The build_address_symbolic funnction filters out data symbols if
their size is set to zero. But the problem is that the COFF symbol
table (for instance) does not provide any size information, leaving
the size to its default value of zero, thus always triggering
the filter.

This shows up when trying to print the address of a global variable
when debugging a Windows executable, for instance.

gdb/ChangeLog:

        * symtab.h (struct minimal_symbol) [has_size]: New field.
        (MSYMBOL_SIZE): Adjust to forbid macro from being used as lvalue.
        (SET_MSYMBOL_SIZE, MSYMBOL_HAS_SIZE): New macros.
        * printcmd.c (build_address_symbolic): Only filter out zero-sized
        minimal symbols if the symbol's size is actually known.
        * minsyms.c (prim_record_minimal_symbol_full): Adjust setting
        of msymbol's size field. Add comment.
        * elfread.c (elf_symtab_read, elf_rel_plt_read): Use
        SET_MSYMBOL_SIZE to set the minimal symbol size.
