Andrew Burgess e65b52456b gdb/tui: Remove casts of NULL during assignment.
In the following code:

    struct symbol *wsym = (struct symbol *) NULL;

the cast of NULL is redundant, it adds noise, and is just one more thing
to change if the type of wsym ever changes. There are a relatively
small number of places in gdb where the above code pattern is used.
Usually the cast is removed like this:

    struct symbol *wsym = NULL;

This commit updates all the places within the gdb/tui directory where we
cast NULL during assignment, removing the cast.

Andrew Burgess 51f0e40d65 gdb: Rework command completion on 'tui reg'.
We previously specified a few known register groups for the 'tui reg'
command. Other register groups could be accessed, but only by using the
'tui reg next' command and cycling through all the groups.

This commit removes the hard coded sub-commands of 'tui reg' and instead
adds dynamic completion of sub-commands based on the architecturally
defined register groups, giving immediate access to all available
register groups.

There is still the 'next' and 'prev' commands for cycling through the
register groups if that's wanted.

The new code maintains the ability to only enter partial names for
register groups, which is something we got for free when using the
standard sub-command mechanism.

The register (and register group) completer has been changed to use
get_current_arch rather than using the architecture of the currently
selected frame. When the target is running, this is equivalent,
however, when the target is not running, using get_current_arch will
provide results from the default architecture.

gdb/ChangeLog:

	* completer.c: Add arch-utils.h include.
	(enum reg_completer_targets): New enum.
	(reg_or_group_completer_1): New function containing old
	reg_or_group_completer, add and use new parameter to control what
	is completed on. Use get_current_arch rather than architecture of
	currently selected frame.

	(reggroup_completer): Call new reg_or_group_completer_1.
	* completer.h (reggroup_completer): Add declaration.
	* tui/tui-regs.c: Add 'completer.h' include.

Andrew Burgess 7bd0be3a9b gdb: Remove register class specific layout names.
The layout command supports the layout names $FREGS, $GREGS, $SREGS,
and $REGS. The intention of these layout names was to display the tui
register window with a specific set of registers.

First, these layout names no longer work, and haven't for a while, using
any of them will just result in switching to the general register view.

Second there is already the command 'tui reg GROUP' command to set the
displayed register set to GROUP, so making the layout command also
control the register set feels like unnecessary overloading of the
layout command.

This commit removes all code relating to supporting the register set
specific names from the layout command. Afterwards the user can select
an available layout using the layout command, and control the choice of
register set using the 'tui reg GROUP' command.

gdb/ChangeLog:

	* tui/tui-layout.c (tui_set_layout): Remove
	tui_register_display_type parameter. Remove all checking of this
	parameter, and reindent function. Update header comment.
	(tui_set_layout_for_display_command): Rename to...

	register class types, don't pass a tui_register_display_type to
	tui_set_layout.  Update header comment.
	(layout_names): Remove register set specific names.
	* tui/tui-layout.h (tui_set_layout): Remove
	tui_register_display_type parameter.

Patrick Palka 63ed81829e Make type-safe the 'content' field of struct tui_gen_win_info
The 'content' field of struct tui_gen_win_info currently has type
void ** but the field always stores an object of type tui_win_content.
Instead of unnecessarily casting to and from void ** we should just give
the field the type tui_win_content in the first place.

This patch does this and also eliminates all now-redundant casts
involving the 'content' struct field that I could find.

Jan Kratochvil 4f45d44599 Remove --xdb
Pedro Alves:

The commands that enables aren't even documented in the manual.
Judging from that, I assume that only wdb users would ever really
be using the --xdb switch.

I think it's time to drop "support" for the --xdb switch too. I
looked through the commands that that exposes, the only that looked
potentially interesting was "go", but then it's just an alias
for "tbreak+jump", which can easily be done with "define go...end".
I'd rather free up the "go" name for something potentially
more interesting (either run control, or maybe even unrelated,
e.g., for golang).

Tom Tromey 635c7e8a05 make calls to help_list use enumerator
Currently there are many calls to help_list that pass the constant -1
as the "class" value. However, the parameter is declared as being of
type enum command_class, and uses of the constant violate this
abstraction.

This patch fixes the error everywhere it occurs in the gdb sources.

Tested by rebuilding.

Tom Tromey 0e9f083f4c remove gdb_string.h
This removes gdb_string.h. This patch is purely mechanical. I
created it by running the two commands:

    git rm common/gdb_string.h
    perl -pi -e's/"gdb_string.h"/<string.h>/;'  *.[chyl] */*.[chyl]

Pedro Alves 6eed16788b [TUI] Rewrite register-changed decision bits.
I stumbled on the TUI's register-changed decision code before (used to
decided whether the register should be highlighted in the register
window), for it is trying to compare all the different possible states
and contents or previous/current register contents, and as such may
need updating whenever the value machinery changes to have more state.
It's just much simpler and more future proof to compare the
previous/current printable representation instead.

The bit in tui_register_format that returns early if the register has
no name gets a bit in the way of the new prototype (what to return in
that case? NULL, empty string, etc.?). Fortunately, that check isn't
really necessary. All the callers will have already skipped unnamed
registers.

gdb/
2013-09-05  Pedro Alves  <palves@redhat.com>

	* tui/tui-regs.c (tui_register_format): Don't look at the
	register's name here. Return string representing register
	value instead of storing it in the data element.
	(tui_get_register): Compare register string representations
	instead of register value states and contents.

Pedro Alves 8eb6bda23e [PR tui/15933] TUI shows registers of the wrong frame the first time
I've stumbled on this by inspection.

When the TUI's register window is first displayed, it always shows the
registers of the current frame, instead of of the selected frame,
which is obviously bogus.

E.g.,

 (gdb) step             # into "function"
 (gdb) up
 (gdb) tui reg general  # or C-x 2, C-x 2

shows the registers of "function", rather than the caller's.

A subsequent:

 (gdb) frame

or

 (gdb) down
 (gdb) up

can be used as workaround to "fix" it.

The fix is to fetch the value before comparing the contents. The
comment additions to value.h explain why it can't be
value_available_contents_eq itself that fetches the contents.

Tested on x86_64 Fedora 17.
