Create xml-builtin.h to declare xml_builtins
xml-builtin.c only has character arrays and no dependencies, so this creates a simple header file for that purpose so that gdbserver can include that instead of re-declaring xml_builtin. gdb: Remove vec.{c,h} and update code to not include vec.h
Removes vec.c and vec.h from the source tree, and remove all the
remaining includes of vec.h. There should be no user visible changes
after this commit.
I did have a few issues rebuilding GDB after applying this patch due
to cached dependencies, I found that running this command in the build
directory resolved my build issues without requiring a 'make clean':

Don't include gdbarch.h from defs.h
I touched symtab.h and was surprised to see how many files were rebuilt. I looked into it a bit, and found that defs.h includes gdbarch.h, which in turn includes many things. gdbarch.h is only needed by a minority ofthe files in gdb, so this patch removes the include from defs.h and updates the fallout. I did "wc -l" on the files in build/gdb/.deps; this patch reduces the line count from 139935 to 137030; so there are definitely future build-time savings here. Note that while I configured with --enable-targets=all, it's possible that some *-nat.c file needs an update. I could not test all of these. Rename common to gdbsupport
This is the next patch in the ongoing series to move gdbsever to the top level. This patch just renames the "common" directory. The idea is to do this move in two parts: first rename the directory (this patch), then move the directory to the top. This approach makes the patches a bit more tractable. I chose the name "gdbsupport" for the directory. However, as this patch was largely written by sed, we could pick a new name without too much difficulty. This commit applies all changes made after running the gdb/copyright.py script. Note that one file was flagged by the script, due to an invalid copyright header (gdb/unittests/basic_string_view/element_access/char/empty.cc). Make target_read_alloc & al return vectors
This patch started by changing target_read_alloc_1 to return a byte_vector, to avoid manual memory management (in target_read_alloc_1 and in the callers). To communicate failures to the callers, it actually returns a gdb::optional<gdb::byte_vector>. Adjusting target_read_stralloc was a bit more tricky, since it wants to return a buffer of char, and not gdb_byte. Since you can't just cast a gdb::byte_vector into a gdb::def_vector<char>, I made target_read_alloc_1 templated, so both versions (that return vectors of gdb_byte and char) are generated. Replace VEC(gdb_xml_value_s) with std::vector
This patch replaces VEC(gdb_xml_value_s), which is passed to XML visitors, with an std::vector. In order to be able to remove the cleanup in gdb_xml_parser::start_element, the gdb_xml_parser structure is made to own the value with a gdb::unique_xmalloc_ptr. gdb_xml_parser: make data fields private and make more functions methods
This patch makes the data fields of gdb_xml_parser private, and makes more functions be gdb_xml_parser methods. This is mostly for better encapsulation. Some free functions have their parsing-related guts converted to methods, while the free functions remain, as they're used as expat callbacks. Now their only job is to be small shims that restore back the gdb_xml_parser type, defer work to the corresponding method, and make sure C++ exceptions don't cross expat. Fix gdb_xml_debug/gdb_xml_error ATTRIBUTE_PRINTF use
The declarations of gdb_xml_debug and gdb_xml_error are passing "0" as "first-to-check" argument to ATTRIBUTE_PRINTF, as if they were va_args functions. Consequently, the arguments to gdb_xml_debug / gdb_xml_error aren't being checked against the format strings. fix up xml-support.c
xml-support.c has a function that returns a cleanup via an out parameter. This changes this function to be a normal cleanup constructor -- returning the cleanup directly and returning the other result via an out parameter. This is sort of a hack, but it lets the checker work here. I also noticed that gdb_xml_create_parser_and_cleanup does not need to be exported any more. * xml-support.c (gdb_xml_create_parser_and_cleanup): Rename from gdb_xml_create_parser_and_cleanup_1.
