Tom Tromey dac790e1b9 PR python/15620, PR python/18620 - breakpoint events in Python
This patch adds some breakpoint events to Python. In particular,
there is a creation event that is emitted when a breakpoint is
created; a modification event that is emitted when a breakpoint
changes somehow; and a deletion event that is emitted when a
breakpoint is deleted.

In this patch, the event's payload is the breakpoint itself. I
considered making a new event type to hold the breakpoint, but I
didn't see a need. Still, I thought I would mention this as a spot
where some other choice is possible.

Built and regtested on x86-64 Fedora 23.

Tom Tromey cda75e7050 Rearrange Python breakpoint node in documentation
I noticed that the Python breakpoint documentation was ordered a bit
oddly. It documented the constructor; then the stop method; then the
watchpoint constants (used for the constructor); then various other
methods and attributes; then the other constants used by the
constructor; and then finally some more methods and attributes.

This patch rearranges the node a little to move the constants to just
after the constructor and before the other methods and attributes.

2016-07-13 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com>

	* python.texi (Breakpoints In Python): Move table of types and
table of watchpoint types earlier in node.

Tom Tromey e0f3fd7c44 PR python/19293 - invalidate frame cache when unwinders change
PR python/19293 notes that when a Python unwinder is disabled, the
frame cache is not invalidated. This means that disabling an unwinder
doesn't have any immediate effect -- but in my experience it's often
the case that I want to enable or disable an unwinder in order to see
what happens.

This patch adds a new gdb.invalidate_cached_frames function and
arranges for the relevant bits of library code to call it. I've only
partially documented this function, considering a warning sufficient
without going into all the reasons ordinary code should not call it.
The name of the new function was taken from a comment in frame.h next
to reinit_frame_cache.

No new test as I think the updates to the existing test are sufficient
to show that the code is working as intended.

Built and regtested on x86-64 Fedora 23.

Tom Tromey 1957f6b89f Fix PR python/17981
PR python/17981 notes that gdb.breakpoints() returns None when there
are no breakpoints; whereas an empty list or tuple would be more in
keeping with Python and the documentation.

This patch fixes the bug by changing the no-breakpoint return to make
an empty tuple.

Pedro Alves 5d5658a1d3 Per-inferior/Inferior-qualified thread IDs
This commit changes GDB to track thread numbers per-inferior. Then,
if you're debugging multiple inferiors, GDB displays
"inferior-num.thread-num" instead of just "thread-num" whenever it
needs to display a thread:

 (gdb) info inferiors
   Num Description Executable
   1 process 6022 /home/pedro/gdb/tests/threads
 * 2    process 6037     /home/pedro/gdb/tests/threads
 (gdb) info threads
   Id Target Id Frame
   1.1 Thread 0x7ffff7fc2740 (LWP 6022) "threads" (running)
   1.2 Thread 0x7ffff77c0700 (LWP 6028) "threads" (running)
   1.3 Thread 0x7ffff7fc2740 (LWP 6032) "threads" (running)
   2.1 Thread 0x7ffff7fc1700 (LWP 6037) "threads" (running)
   2.2 Thread 0x7ffff77c0700 (LWP 6038) "threads" (running)
 * 2.3  Thread 0x7ffff7fc2740 (LWP 6039) "threads" (running)
 (gdb)
...
 (gdb) thread 1.1
[Switching to thread 1.1 (Thread 0x7ffff7fc2740 (LWP 8155))]
 (gdb)
...

etc.

You can still use "thread NUM", in which case GDB infers you're
referring to thread NUM of the current inferior.

The $_thread convenience var and Python's InferiorThread.num attribute
are remapped to the new per-inferior thread number. It's a backward
compatibility break, but since it only matters when debugging multiple
inferiors, I think it's worth doing.

Because MI thread IDs need to be a single integer, we keep giving
threads a global identifier, _in addition_ to the per-inferior number,
and make MI always refer to the global thread IDs. IOW, nothing
changes from a MI frontend's perspective.

Similarly, since Python's Breakpoint.thread and Guile's
breakpoint-thread/set-breakpoint-thread breakpoint methods need to
work with integers, those are adjusted to work with global thread IDs
too. Follow up patches will provide convenient means to access
threads' global IDs.

To avoid potencially confusing users (which also avoids updating much
of the testsuite), if there's only one inferior and its ID is "1",
IOW, the user hasn't done anything multi-process/inferior related,
then the "INF." part of thread IDs is not shown. E.g,.:

 (gdb) info inferiors
   Num Description Executable
 * 1    process 15275     /home/pedro/gdb/tests/threads
 (gdb) info threads
   Id Target Id Frame
 * 1    Thread 0x7ffff7fc1740 (LWP 15275) "threads" main () at threads.c:40
 (gdb) add-inferior
 Added inferior 2
 (gdb) info threads
   Id Target Id Frame
 * 1.1  Thread 0x7ffff7fc1740 (LWP 15275) "threads" main () at threads.c:40
 (gdb)

No regressions on x86_64 Fedora 20.

Simon Marchi a86c90e6ba Clarify doc about memory read/write and non-8-bits addressable memory unit sizes
New in v3:

 * Change RSP documentation as well. The m, M and X packets now use
 lengths in addressable memory units.

New in v2:

 * Change wording: use byte for 8-bits chunks and addressable memory unit
for the unit of data associated to a single address.
 * Introduce definition of addressable memory unit in the Memory
   section.

This patch modifies the manual to clarify the MI, RSP and Python APIs in
regard to reading/writing memory on architectures with addressable
memory unit that are not 8 bits.

Care is taken to use the word "addressable memory unit" or "memory unit"
when referring to one piece of the smallest addressable size on the
current architecture and the word "byte" when referring to an 8-bits
data piece.

For MI, -data-{read,write}-memory are not modified, since they are
deprecated.

gdb/doc/ChangeLog:

	* gdb.texinfo (GDB/MI Data Manipulation): Clarify usage of
bytes and memory units for -data-{read,write}-memory-bytes.
(Packets): Same for m, M and X packets.
	* python.texi (Inferiors In Python): Same for read_memory and
	write_memory.

Simon Marchi fab3a15dfb Small fixes to the Python API doc
First:
"Breakpoint.delete" is missing parenthesis.

Second:
Someone on IRC asked, how come there is no disable() method in the
Breakpoint object. It turns out you have to do "bp.enabled = False".
Since every normal person would probably search for "disable" in that page
if their intent is to disable a python breakpoint, I thought it would be
useful if the description contained "disable" so it would be easy to find.
The result might seem a bit silly and redundant, so I am open to
suggestions.

gdb/doc/ChangeLog:

	* python.texi (Breakpoints In Python): Add parenthesis after
	Breakpoint.delete. Clarify Breakpoint.enabled description so
	that it	contains "disable".

Andrew Burgess 53e8a631a0 Add a TRY_CATCH to get_prev_frame_always to better manage errors during unwind.
https://sourceware.org/ml/gdb-patches/2014-05/msg00737.html

Currently a MEMORY_ERROR raised during unwinding a frame will cause the
unwind to stop with an error message, for example:

  (gdb) bt
  #0 breakpt () at amd64-invalid-stack-middle.c:27
  #1 0x00000000004008f0 in func5 () at amd64-invalid-stack-middle.c:32
  #2 0x0000000000400900 in func4 () at amd64-invalid-stack-middle.c:38
  #3 0x0000000000400910 in func3 () at amd64-invalid-stack-middle.c:44
  #4 0x0000000000400928 in func2 () at amd64-invalid-stack-middle.c:50
Cannot access memory at address 0x2aaaaaab0000

However, frame #4 is marked as being the end of the stack unwind, so a
subsequent request for the backtrace looses the error message, such as:

  (gdb) bt
  #0 breakpt () at amd64-invalid-stack-middle.c:27
  #1 0x00000000004008f0 in func5 () at amd64-invalid-stack-middle.c:32
  #2 0x0000000000400900 in func4 () at amd64-invalid-stack-middle.c:38
  #3 0x0000000000400910 in func3 () at amd64-invalid-stack-middle.c:44
  #4 0x0000000000400928 in func2 () at amd64-invalid-stack-middle.c:50

When fetching the backtrace, or requesting the stack depth using the MI
interface the situation is even worse, the first time a request is made
we encounter the memory error and so the MI returns an error instead of
the correct result, for example:

  (gdb) -stack-info-depth
^error, msg="Cannot access memory at address 0x2aaaaaab0000"

Or,

  (gdb) -stack-list-frames
^error, msg="Cannot access memory at address 0x2aaaaaab0000"

However, once one of these commands has been used gdb has, internally,
walked the stack and figured that out that frame #4 is the bottom of the
stack, so the second time an MI command is tried you'll get the "expected"
result:

  (gdb) -stack-info-depth
  ^done,depth="5"

Or,

  (gdb) -stack-list-frames
  ^done,stack=[frame={level="0", .. snip lots .. }]

After this patch the MEMORY_ERROR encountered during the frame unwind is
attached to frame #4 as the stop reason, and is displayed in the CLI each
time the backtrace is requested. In the MI, catching the error means that
the "expected" result is returned the first time the MI command is issued.
So, from the CLI the results of the backtrace will be:

  (gdb) bt
  #0 breakpt () at amd64-invalid-stack-middle.c:27
  #1 0x00000000004008f0 in func5 () at amd64-invalid-stack-middle.c:32
  #2 0x0000000000400900 in func4 () at amd64-invalid-stack-middle.c:38
  #3 0x0000000000400910 in func3 () at amd64-invalid-stack-middle.c:44
  #4 0x0000000000400928 in func2 () at amd64-invalid-stack-middle.c:50
Backtrace stopped: Cannot access memory at address 0x2aaaaaab0000

Each and every time that the backtrace is requested, while the MI output
will similarly be consistently:

  (gdb) -stack-info-depth
  ^done,depth="5"

Or,

  (gdb) -stack-list-frames
  ^done,stack=[frame={level="0", .. snip lots .. }]
