This patch adds . as an allowed character for user defined commands.
Combined with 'define-prefix', this allows to e.g. define a set of Valgrind
specific user command corresponding to the Valgrind monitor commands
(such as check_memory, v.info, v.set, ...).

This patch adds the new 'define-prefix' command that creates (or mark an
existing user defined command) as a prefix command.
This approach was preferred compared to add a -prefix option to
'define' command : with define-prefix, a command can be defined and
afterwards marked as a prefix. Also, it is easier to define a
'prefix' only command in one operation.
This patch also adds completers for the 'define' and 'document' commands.
This makes it easier for the user to type the prefixes for 'define'
and type the documented command name for 'document'.

The problem reported in PR mi/25055 is that the output of the backtrace
command, when executed as breakpoint command does not show when executing
using the MI interpreter:

Interestingly, the function print_frame is called twice during -exec-run:
- once during tui_on_normal_stop where the ui_out is temporarily set to
tui->interp_ui_out (), resulting in the part after the comma in
"Breakpoint 1, main () at test.c:19"
- once during execute_control_command, where the ui_out is the default for the
current interpreter: mi_ui_out, which ignores calls to output text.
The commit 3a87ae656c "Use console uiout when executing breakpoint commands"
fixes the problem by temporarily switching to the ui_out of INTERP_CONSOLE in
execute_control_command.
This however caused a regression in redirection (escaping '#' using '\' for
git commit message convenience):

The problem is that the '#0 main () at test.c:19' ends up in the gdb output
output rather than in gdb.txt. This is due to the fact that the redirect is
setup for the current ui_out (which is tui->interp_ui_out ()), while the
backtrace output is printed to the INTERP_CONSOLE ui_out.
Fix this by limiting switching to INTERP_CONSOLE ui_out to when INTERP_MI is
active.
Tested on x86_64-linux.

This changes command_line_input to return a "const char *", which is
appropriate because the memory is owned by command_line_input. Then
it fixes up the users.
I looked at making command_line_input transfer ownership to its caller
instead, but this is complicated due to the way read_next_line is
called, so I decided against it.
Tested by rebuilding.

A customer noticed some mildly odd MI output, where CLI output was
split into multiple MI strings at unusual boundaries, like this:
~"$1 = (b => true"
~", p => 0x407260"
This is technically correct according to the MI spec, but still
unusual, in that there's no particular reason for the string to be
split where it is.
I tracked this down to a call to gdb_flush in generic_val_print.
Then, I went through all calls to gdb_flush and removed the ones I
thought were superfluous. In particular:
* Any call in the value-printing code;
* Likewise the type-printing code (just a single call); and
* Any call that immediately followed a printf that obviously
ended with a newline, my belief being that gdb's standard output
streams are line buffered (by inheriting the behavior from stdio)
Regression tested on x86-64 Fedora 29.
I didn't add a new test case. I tend to think we don't necessarily
want to specify this behavior in the tests. Let me know what you
think of this.

Errors that happen in nested sourced files (when a sourced file sources
another file) lead to a wrong error message, or use-after-free.
For example, if I put this in "a.gdb":
command_that_doesnt_exist
and this in "b.gdb":
source a.gdb
and try to "source b.gdb" in GDB, the result may look like this:

Undefined command: "command_that_doesnt_exist". Try "help".
Notice the wrong file name where "a.gdb" should be. The exact result
may differ, depending on the feelings of the memory allocator.
What happens is:
- The "source a.gdb" command is saved by command_line_append_input_line
in command_line_input's static buffer.
- Since we are sourcing a file, the script_from_file function stores the
script name (a.gdb) in the source_file_name global. However, it doesn't
do a copy, it just saves a pointer to command_line_input's static buffer.
- The "command_that_doesnt_exist" command is saved by
command_line_append_input_line in command_line_input's static buffer.
Depending on what xrealloc does, source_file_name may now point to
freed memory, or at the minimum the data it was pointing to was
overwritten.
- When the error is handled in script_from_file, we dererence
source_file_name to print the name of the file in which the error
occured.
To fix it, I made source_file_name an std::string, so that keeps a copy of
the file name instead of pointing to a buffer with a too small
lifetime.
With this patch, the expected filename is printed, and no use-after-free
occurs:

I passed explicit template parameters to make_scoped_restore
(<std::string, const std::string &>), so that the second parameter is
passed by reference and avoid a copy.
It was not as obvious as I first thought to change gdb.base/source.exp
to test this, because source commands inside sourced files are
interpreted relative to GDB's current working directory, not the
directory of the currently sourced file. As a workaround, I moved the
snippet that tests errors after the snippet that adds the source
directory to the search path. This way, the "source source-error-1.gdb"
line in source-error.exp manages to find the file.

Since commit
56bcdbea2b ("Let gdb.execute handle multi-line commands")
trying to use a command like gdb.execute("show commands") in Python
fails. GDB ends up trying to run the "commands" command.
The reason is that GDB gets confused with the special "commands"
command. In process_next_line, the lookup_cmd_1 function returns the
cmd_list_element representing the "commands" sub-command of "show".
Lower, we check the cmd_list_element to see if it matches various
control commands by name, including the "commands" command. This is
where we wrongfully conclude that the executed command must be
"commands", when in reality it was "show commands".
The fix proposed in this patch removes the comparisons by name, instead
comparing the cmd_list_element object by pointer with the objects
created at initialization time.
Tested on the buildbot, though on a single builder (Fedora-x86_64-m64).

-fsanitize=address showed a use-after-free in number_or_range_parser.
The cause was that handle_line_of_input could stash the input into
"saved_command_line", and then this could be freed by reentrant calls.
This fixes the bug by preventing commands that are read by "commands"
from being eligible for repeating.

Currently command lines are reference counted using shared_ptr only
when attached to breakpoints. This patch changes gdb to use
shared_ptr in commands as well. This allows for the removal of
copy_command_lines.
Note that the change to execute_user_command explicitly makes a new
reference to the command line. This will be used in a later patch.
This simplifies struct command_line based on the observation that a
given command can have at most two child bodies: an "if" can have both
"then" and "else" parts. Perhaps the names I've chosen for the
replacements here are not very good -- your input requested.

We had a few times the need for a data structure that does essentially
what C++17's std::string_view does, which is to give an std::string-like
interface (only the read-only operations) to an arbitrary character
buffer.
This patch adapts the files copied from libstdc++ by the previous patch
to integrate them with GDB. Here's a summary of the changes:
* Remove things related to wstring_view, u16string_view and
u32string_view (I don't think we need them, but we can always add them
later).
* Remove usages of _GLIBCXX_BEGIN_NAMESPACE_VERSION and
_GLIBCXX_END_NAMESPACE_VERSION.
* Put the code in the gdb namespace. I had to add a few "std::" in
front of std type usages.
* Change __throw_out_of_range_fmt() for error().
* Make gdb::string_view an alias of std::string_view when building
with >= c++17.
* Remove a bunch of constexpr, because they are not valid in c++11
(e.g. they are not a single return line).
* Use std::common_type<_Tp>::type instead of std::common_type_t<_Tp>,
because c++11 doesn't have the later.
* Remove the #pragma GCC system_header, since that silences some
warnings that we might want to have if we're doing something not
correctly.
* Remove operator ""sv. It would need a lot of work to make all
supported compilers happy, and we can easily live without it.
* Remove operator<<. It is implemented using __ostream_insert (a
libstdc++ internal). Bringing it in might be possible, but I don't
think that would be worth the effort, since we don't really use
streams at the moment.
* Replace internal libstdc++ asserts ( __glibcxx_assert and
__glibcxx_requires_string_len) with gdb_assert.
* Remove hash helpers, because they use libstdc++ internal functions.
If we need them we always import them later.
The string_view class in cli/cli-script.c is removed and its usage
replaced with the new gdb::string_view.

the output of certain commands, like backtrace, doesn't appear anywhere
when it is run as a breakpoint command and when using MI.
The reason is that the current_uiout is set to the mi_ui_out while these
commands run, whereas we want the output as CLI output. Some commands
like "print" work, because they use printf_filtered (gdb_stdout, ...)
directly, bypassing the current ui_out.
The fix I did is to force setting the cli_uiout as the current_uiout
when calling execute_control_command. I am not sure if this is the
right way to fix the problem, comments about the approach would be
appreciated.
I enhanced gdb.mi/mi-break.exp to test the backtrace command.
Regtested on the buildbot.

This renames a few functions -- skip_spaces_const,

these functions have the same interface as their non-const versions by
design. Furthermore there's an example of using an overload in-tree
already, namely check_for_argument.
This patch was largely created using some perl one-liners; then a few
fixes were applied by hand.

Command names: make them case sensitive

made command name lookup case sensitive. However, define_command, used
when creating a user-defined command, converts the command name to
lowercase, assuming that the command name lookup works in a case
insensitive way. This causes user-defined commands with capital letters
in their name to only be callable with a lowercase version:

This patch removes that conversion to lowercase, so that the user can
call the command with the same name they provided.

New proc, call it from toplevel.
This changes the users of do_restore_instream_cleanup to use a
scoped_restore instead. This patch is broken out because it warrants
some additional attention: in particular it's unclear to me whether
current_ui can change in the body of these functions -- but if it can,
then the cleanup would have modified a different UI's instream member.

global in_user_command is not used. This patch removes it. (I didn't

My last commit fixed a regression that happened when using
inline/multi-line commands for Python/Compile/Guile, but introduced
another regression: it is now not possible to use aliases for the
commands mentioned above. The fix is to almost revert the change I've
made and go back to using the 'struct cmd_list_element *', but at the
same time make sure that we advance the 'cmd_name' variable past all
the whitespace characters after the command name. If, after skipping
the whitespace, we encounter a '\0', it means that the command is not
inline. Otherwise, it is.
This patch also expands the testcase in order to check for aliases and
for trailing whitespace after the command name.

The problem happens because, on cli/cli-script.c:process_next_line,
GDB is not using the command line string to identify which command to
run, but it instead using the 'struct cmd_list_element *' that is
obtained by using the mentioned string. The problem with that is that
the 'struct cmd_list_element *' doesn't have any information on
whether the command issued by the user is a multi-line or inline one.
A multi-line command is a command that will necessarily be composed of
more than 1 line. For example:
(gdb) if 1
>python
>print ('hello')
>end
>end
As can be seen in the example above, the 'python' command actually
"opens" a new command line (represented by the change in the
indentation) that will then be used to enter Python code. OTOH, an
inline command is a command that is "self-contained" in a single line,
for example:
(gdb) if 1
>python print ('hello')
>end
This Python command is a one-liner, and therefore there is no other
Python code that can be entered for this same block. There is also no
change in the indentation.
So, the fix is somewhat simple: we have to revert the change and use
the full command line string passed to process_next_line in order to
identify whether we're dealing with a multi-line or an inline command.
This commit does just that. As can be seen, this regression also
affects other languages, like guile or the compile framework. To make
things clearer, I decided to create a new helper function responsible
for identifying a non-inline command.
Testcase is attached.

This introduces command_line_up, a unique_ptr for command_line
objects, and changes many places to use it. This removes a number of
cleanups.
Command lines are funny in that sometimes they are reference counted.
Once there is more C++-ification of some of the users, perhaps all of
these can be changed to use shared_ptr instead.

There is a special case for while-stepping, where 'ws' and 'stepping' are
recognized explicitely. Instead of adding more special cases, this change
uses cli-decode.
