John Baldwin 5fa14c6b97 Enable ptrace events on new child processes.
New child processes on FreeBSD do not inherit optional ptrace events
such as fork and LWP events from the parent process. Instead,
explicitly enable events on new children when reporting a fork
event.

gdb/ChangeLog:

	* fbsd-nat.c (fbsd_wait): Use "fbsd_enable_proc_events" on
	new child processes.

John Baldwin da95a26cc3 Consolidate code to enable optional FreeBSD native target event reporting.
Add a new function to enable optional event reporting for FreeBSD native
targets. Specifically, use this to enable fork and LWP events.
The bodies of fbsd_enable_follow_fork and fbsd_enable_lwp_events have been
subsumed into the new function. In addition, use the PT_GET_EVENT_MASK
and PT_EVENT_SET_MASK requests added in FreeBSD 12 when present to enable
these events.

gdb/ChangeLog:

	* fbsd-nat.c (fbsd_enable_lwp_events): Remove function.
	(fbsd_enable_proc_events): New function.
	(fbsd_enable_follow_fork): Remove function.
	(fbsd_post_startup_inferior): Use "fbsd_enable_proc_events".
	(fbsd_post_attach): Likewise.

John Baldwin 2c5c2a3321 Fake VFORK_DONE events when following only the parent after a vfork.
FreeBSD does not currently report a ptrace event for a parent process
after it resumes due to the child exiting the shared memory region after
a vfork. Take the same approach used in linux-nat.c in this case of
sleeping for a while and then reporting a fake VFORK_DONE event.

gdb/ChangeLog:

	* fbsd-nat.c (struct fbsd_fork_child_info): Rename to ...
	(struct fbsd_fork_info): ... this.
	(struct fbsd_fork_info) <child>: Rename to ...
	(struct fbsd_fork_info) <ptid>: ... this.
	(fbsd_pending_children): Update type.
(fbsd_remember_child): Update type and field name.
	(fbsd_is_child_pending): Likewise.
	(fbsd_pending_vfork_done): New variable.
	(fbsd_is_vfork_done_pending): New function.
	(fbsd_next_vfork_done): New function.
(fbsd_resume): Don't resume processes with a pending vfork done
	event.
(fbsd_wait): Report pending vfork done events.
(fbsd_follow_fork): Delay and record a pending vfork done event
for a vfork parent when detaching the child.

John Baldwin e6cdd38e8f Add support for catching system calls to native FreeBSD targets.
All platforms on FreeBSD use a shared system call table, so use a
single XML file to describe the system calls available on each FreeBSD
platform.

Recent versions of FreeBSD include the identifier of the current
system call when reporting a system call entry or exit event in the
ptrace_lwpinfo structure obtained via PT_LWPINFO in fbsd_wait. As
such, FreeBSD native targets do not use the gdbarch method to fetch
the system call code. In addition, FreeBSD register sets fetched via
ptrace do not include an equivalent of 'orig_rax' (on amd64 for
example), so the system call code cannot be extracted from the
available registers during a system call exit. However, GDB assumes
that system call catch points are not supported if the gdbarch method
is not present. As a workaround, FreeBSD ABIs install a dummy gdbarch
method that throws an internal_error if it is ever invoked.

gdb/ChangeLog:

	* configure.ac: Check for support for system call LWP fields on
	FreeBSD.
	* config.in, configure: Rebuild.
	* data-directory/Makefile.in (SYSCALLS_FILES): Add freebsd.xml.
	* fbsd-nat.c (fbsd_wait) [HAVE_STRUCT_PTRACE_LWPINFO_PL_SYSCALL_CODE]:

John Baldwin b2bae2f79b Reword the string description of native FreeBSD ptids.
The prior format led to confusing messages when threads were created

John Baldwin 6e9567fe2a Add support for LWP-based threads on FreeBSD.
Older versions of FreeBSD supported userland threading via a pure
user-space threading library (N threads scheduled on 1 process) and
a N:M model (N threads scheduled on M LWPs). However, modern FreeBSD
versions only support a M:M threading model where each user thread is
backed by a dedicated LWP. This thread target only supports this
threading model. It also uses ptrace to query and alter LWP state
directly rather than using libthread_db to simplify the implementation.

FreeBSD recently gained support for reporting LWP events (birth and death
of LWPs). GDB will use LWP events when present. For older systems it
fetches the list of LWPs in the to_update_thread_list target op to update
the list of threads on each stop.

This target supports scheduler locking by using ptrace to suspend
individual LWPs as necessary before resuming a process.

Simon Marchi 8d7493201c Replace some xmalloc-family functions with XNEW-family ones
This patch is part of the make-gdb-buildable-in-C++ effort. The idea is
to change some calls to the xmalloc family of functions to calls to the
equivalents in the XNEW family. This avoids adding an explicit cast, so
it keeps the code a bit more readable. Some of them also map relatively
well to a C++ equivalent (XNEW (struct foo) -> new foo), so it will be
possible to do scripted replacements if needed.

I only changed calls that were obviously allocating memory for one or
multiple "objects". Allocation of variable sizes (such as strings or
buffer handling) will be for later (and won't use XNEW).

  - xmalloc (sizeof (struct foo)) -> XNEW (struct foo)
  - xmalloc (num * sizeof (struct foo)) -> XNEWVEC (struct foo, num)
  - xcalloc (1, sizeof (struct foo)) -> XCNEW (struct foo)
  - xcalloc (num, sizeof (struct foo)) -> XCNEWVEC (struct foo, num)
  - xrealloc (p, num * sizeof (struct foo) -> XRESIZEVEC (struct foo, p, num)
  - obstack_alloc (ob, sizeof (struct foo)) -> XOBNEW (ob, struct foo)
  - obstack_alloc (ob, num * sizeof (struct foo)) -> XOBNEWVEC (ob, struct foo, num)
  - alloca (sizeof (struct foo)) -> XALLOCA (struct foo)
  - alloca (num * sizeof (struct foo)) -> XALLOCAVEC (struct foo, num)

Some instances of xmalloc followed by memset to zero the buffer were
replaced by XCNEW or XCNEWVEC.

I regtested on x86-64, Ubuntu 14.04, but the patch touches many
architecture-specific files. For those I'll have to rely on the
buildbot or people complaining that I broke their gdb.

John Baldwin d2b41ca0f9 Add support for catching exec events on FreeBSD.
FreeBSD kernels that support fork tracing always stop a process to
report events for exec. Such a process will have the PL_FLAG_EXEC
flag set in the pl_flags field of the ptrace_lwpinfo struct returned
by PT_LWPINFO. The structure does not include the pathname passed to
exec, so use fbsd_pid_to_exec_file to query the pathname of the
process' executable.

gdb/ChangeLog:

	* fbsd-nat.c: (fbsd_wait) [PL_FLAG_EXEC]: Report TARGET_WAITKIND_EXECD
	event if PL_FLAG_EXEC is set.
	[PL_FLAG_EXEC] (fbsd_insert_exec_catchpoint): New function.
	[PL_FLAG_EXEC] (fbsd_remove_exec_catchpoint): New function.
	(fbsd_nat_add_target) [PL_FLAG_EXEC]: Set

	Set "to_remove_exec_catchpoint" to "fbsd_remove_exec_catchpoint".

John Baldwin e58e05d677 Enable fork tracing for native FreeBSD targets.
Enable PT_FOLLOW_FORK on all processes. When this is enabled, both
the parent and child process stop when a fork or vfork occurs.

A target operation for wait uses PT_LWPINFO to fetch more detailed
information about the state of a stopped process. A parent process
sets the PL_FLAG_FORKED flag in the pl_flags field of the structure
returned by PT_LWPINFO as well as the pid of the new child process.
The child process sets the PL_FLAG_CHILD flag in the pl_flags field.

When a fork is detected, the wait hook waits for both processes to
report their respective events. It then reports the fork to GDB as
a single TARGET_WAITKIND_FORKED or TARGET_WAITKIND_VFORKED event.
The kernel does not guarantee the order the events are reported in.
If the parent process' event is reported first, then the wait hook
explicitly waits for the child process. If the child process' event
is reported first, the event is recorded on an internal list of
pending child events and the wait hook waits for another event.
Later when the parent process' event is reported, the parent will
use the previously-recorded child process event instead of explicitly
waiting on the child process.

To distinguish vfork events from fork events, the external process
structure for the child process is extracted from the kernel. The
P_PPWAIT flag is set in the ki_flags field of this structure if the
process was created via vfork, but it is not set for a regular fork.

John Baldwin 25268153a1 Use kinfo_getvmmap on FreeBSD to enumerate memory regions.
Use kinfo_getvmmap from libutil on FreeBSD to enumerate memory
regions in a running process instead of /proc/<pid>/map. FreeBSD systems
do not mount procfs by default, but kinfo_getvmmap uses a sysctl that
is always available.

Skip memory regions for devices as well as regions an application has
requested to not be dumped via the MAP_NOCORE flag to mmap or
MADV_NOCORE advice to madvise.

Markus Metzger 1d1f1ccb33 make_corefile_notes: have caller free returned memory
The various make_corefile_notes implementations for gdbarch as well as target
currently make an xfree cleanup on the data they return. This causes problems
when trying to put a TRY_CATCH around the make_corefile_notes call.
Specifically, we get a stale cleanup error in restore_my_cleanups.

Omit the make_cleanup and have the caller free the memory.

gdb/

This is a new issue. It is introduced by commit https://sourceware.org/git/gitweb.cgi?p=binutils-gdb.git;a=commit;h=8bc2fe488957946d2cdccda3ce8d4f39e4003ea0
It removed the discard_cleanups (back_to) inside attach_command.
Then restore_my_cleanups will throw a internal_warning.

Pedro Alves d8d2a3ee47 Normalize on PATH_MAX instead of MAXPATHLEN throughout.
With the pathmax gnulib module in place, we can use PATH_MAX
consistently throughout, instead of the current mixbag of PATH_MAX and
MAXPATHLEN uses. It's no longer necessary to include sys/param.h
(supposedly, I can't check all ports touched here) for MAXPATHLEN.

Don't remove sys/param.h from GDB's configure.ac, as later tests in
the file use HAVE_SYS_PARAM_H checks.

Tested on x86_64 Fedora 17.

Also cross-built for --host=i686-w64-mingw32, and --host=i586-pc-msdosdjgpp.
