This applies the second part of GDB's End of Year Procedure, which
updates the copyright year range in all of GDB's files.

Both of them are used in conversion. We can remove them since the
conversion is done.
There are many architectures only have one breakpoint instruction,
so their gdbarch methods breakpoint_kind_from_pc and
sw_breakpoint_from_kind look very similar. Instead of macro, we
use template "template <size_t, const gdb_byte *> struct bp_manipulation"
for these architectures. In order to use template, I also change
breakpoint instruction of type "static const gdb_byte[]" to
"constexpr gdb_byte[]", and rename them to ARCH_break_insn.

It is my understanding that GDB used to require each architecture to
define a Frame Pointer (fp). However, this functionality was deprecated
some time ago so the call to setup the fp_reg was changed to deprecated
(set_gdbarch_deprecated_fp_regnum). It should have been removed from the
Power code.
That said, the code "set_gdbarch_deprecated_fp_regnum
(gdbarch, PPC_R0_REGNUM + 1);" sets up register r1 as the frame pointer.
Register r1 is no longer used to hold the frame pointer on Power. By
removing the fp definition for Power in GDB, it causes GDB to fall back
to the call get_frame_base_address (frame) which returns the correct value
depending on the specific senario but most of the time is the DWARF
canonical frame address.

If the instruction in this case does not include an RA field, then 'ra'
is used uninitialized. Use the same idiom used elsewhere in this file of

Previously, backchain was read as a signed quantity, resulting in
addresses like 0xfffffffffffeded0 instead of 0xfffeded0 returned by

is considered unavailable.

Multitarget builds currently fail when:
(1) simulator support is enabled (the main --target supports target sim)
(2) powerpc is included in the --enable-targets list

This is because the powerpc sim provides a non-standard API function
sim_spr_register_name which gdb/rs6000-tdep.c utilizes. Since the sim
does not yet support multitarget, only the sim (if one exists) for the
main target is built. When that target isn't powerpc, this function
is not available leading to linking errors:

The system compiler (gcc 4.1) in Centos 5 doesn't like that we cast to a
pointer to a type that doesn't exist. I see no real value in using this
kind iof construct over just using void *. So this patch changes the
tdep_info field to void * and removes the casts. Even in C++, we
should not need an explicit cast when assigning to a void *.

casts from integer to enum types, where it is really the intention to do

An exception to that is the casts in regcache.c. It seems to me like
struct regcache's register_status field could be a pointer to an array of
enum register_status. Doing so would waste a bit of memory (4 bytes
used by the enum vs 1 byte used by the current signed char, for each
register). If we switch to C++11 one day, we can define the underlying
type of an enum type, so we could have the best of both worlds.

We concluded that gdbarch_in_function_epilogue_p is misnamed, since it
returns true if the given PC is one instruction after the one that
destroyed the stack (which isn't necessarily inside an epilogue),

*_stack_frame_destroyed_p as well for consistency.

Thus, we'll be getting rid of the local volatile exception object, and
declaring the caught exception in the catch block.
This allows reimplementing TRY/CATCH in terms of C++ exceptions when
building in C++ mode, while still allowing to build GDB in C mode
(using setjmp/longjmp), as a transition step.
TBC, after this patch, is it _not_ valid to have code between the TRY
and the CATCH blocks, like:

Just like it isn't valid to do that with C++'s native try/catch.
By switching to creating the exception object inside the CATCH block
scope, we can get rid of all the explicitly allocated volatile
exception objects all over the tree, and map the CATCH block more
directly to C++'s catch blocks.
The majority of the TRY_CATCH -> TRY+CATCH+END_CATCH conversion was
done with a script, rerun from scratch at every rebase, no manual
editing involved. After the mechanical conversion, a few places
needed manual intervention, to fix preexisting cases where we were
using the exception object outside of the TRY_CATCH block, and cases
where we were using "else" after a 'if (ex.reason) < 0)' [a CATCH
after this patch]. The result was folded into this patch so that GDB
still builds at each incremental step.
END_CATCH is necessary for two reasons:
First, because we name the exception object in the CATCH block, which
requires creating a scope, which in turn must be closed somewhere.
Declaring the exception variable in the initializer field of a for
block, like:

would avoid needing END_CATCH, but alas, in C mode, we build with C90,
which doesn't allow mixed declarations and code.
Second, because when TRY/CATCH are wired to real C++ try/catch, as
long as we need to handle cleanup chains, even if there's no CATCH
block that wants to catch the exception, we need for stop at every
frame in the unwind chain and run cleanups, then rethrow. That will
be done in END_CATCH.
After we require C++, we'll still need TRY/CATCH/END_CATCH until
cleanups are completely phased out -- TRY/CATCH in C++ mode will
save/restore the current cleanup chain, like in C mode, and END_CATCH
catches otherwise uncaugh exceptions, runs cleanups and rethrows, so
that C++ cleanups and exceptions can coexist.
IMO, this still makes the TRY/CATCH code look a bit more like a
newcomer would expect, so IMO worth it even if we weren't considering
C++.

This normalizes some exception catch blocks that check for ex.reason

The motivation for that change is being able to reimplent TRY/CATCH in
terms of C++ try/catch.
This commit makes it so that:
- no condition other than ex.reason < 0 is checked in the if
predicate
- there's no "else" block to check whether no exception was caught
- there's no code between the TRY_CATCH (TRY) block and the
'if (ex.reason < 0)' block (CATCH).
- the exception object is no longer referred to outside the if/catch
block. Note the local volatile exception objects that are
currently defined inside functions that use TRY_CATCH will
disappear. In cases it's more convenient to still refer to the
exception outside the catch block, a new non-volatile local is
added and copy to that object is made within the catch block.
The following patches should make this all clearer.

This commit introduces a new inline common function "startswith"
which takes two string arguments and returns nonzero if the first
string starts with the second. It also updates the 295 places
where this logic was written out longhand to use the new function.

The problem is that rs6000_frame_cache attempts to read the stack backchain via
read_memory_unsigned_integer, which throws an exception if the stack pointer is
invalid. With this patch, it calls safe_read_memory_integer instead, which
doesn't throw an exception and allows for safe handling of that situation.

This change corrects GPR frame offset calculation for the e500v2
processor. On this target, featuring the SPE APU, GPRs are 64-bit and
are held in stack frames whole with the use of `evstdd' and `evldd'
instructions. Their integer 32-bit part occupies the low-order word and
therefore its offset varies between the two endiannesses possible.
* rs6000-tdep.c (rs6000_frame_cache): Correct little-endian GPR
offset into SPE pseudo registers.
This is the first patch of a series to implement support for the
PowerPC ELFv2 ABI. While powerpc64le-linux will use ELFv2, and
the existing powerpc64-linux code will continue to use ELFv1,
in theory ELFv2 is also defined for big-endian systems (and
ELFv1 was also defined for little-endian systems).
Therefore this patch adds a new tdep->elf_abi variable to decide
which ABI version to use. This is detected from the ELF header
e_flags value; if this is not present, we default to ELFv2 on
little-endian and ELFv1 otherwise.
This patch does not yet introduce any actual difference in GDB's
handling of the two ABIs. Those will be added by the remainder
of this patch series.
