Replace some xmalloc-family functions with XNEW-family ones
This patch is part of the make-gdb-buildable-in-C++ effort. The idea is to change some calls to the xmalloc family of functions to calls to the equivalents in the XNEW family. This avoids adding an explicit cast, so it keeps the code a bit more readable. Some of them also map relatively well to a C++ equivalent (XNEW (struct foo) -> new foo), so it will be possible to do scripted replacements if needed. I only changed calls that were obviously allocating memory for one or multiple "objects". Allocation of variable sizes (such as strings or buffer handling) will be for later (and won't use XNEW). - xmalloc (sizeof (struct foo)) -> XNEW (struct foo) - xmalloc (num * sizeof (struct foo)) -> XNEWVEC (struct foo, num) - xcalloc (1, sizeof (struct foo)) -> XCNEW (struct foo) - xcalloc (num, sizeof (struct foo)) -> XCNEWVEC (struct foo, num) - xrealloc (p, num * sizeof (struct foo) -> XRESIZEVEC (struct foo, p, num) - obstack_alloc (ob, sizeof (struct foo)) -> XOBNEW (ob, struct foo) - obstack_alloc (ob, num * sizeof (struct foo)) -> XOBNEWVEC (ob, struct foo, num) - alloca (sizeof (struct foo)) -> XALLOCA (struct foo) - alloca (num * sizeof (struct foo)) -> XALLOCAVEC (struct foo, num) Some instances of xmalloc followed by memset to zero the buffer were replaced by XCNEW or XCNEWVEC. I regtested on x86-64, Ubuntu 14.04, but the patch touches many architecture-specific files. Mostly trivial enum fixes
This is a patch I extracted from Pedro's C++ branch. It contains the most trivial enum fixes, where an integer type/value was used instead of the appropriate enum type/value. It fixes many C++ errors, since in C++ you can't mix integers and enums implicitely. Regardless of the C++ conversion, I think this is a good cleanup to make use of the appropriate enum types. Detect 64-bit-ness in PowerPC Book III-E
This patch is to teach both GDB and GDBServer to detect 64-bit inferior correctly. We find a problem that GDBServer is unable to detect on a e5500 core processor. Current GDBServer assumes that MSR is a 64-bit register, but MSR is a 32-bit register in Book III-E. This patch is to fix this problem by checking the right bit in MSR, in order to handle both Book III-S and Book III-E. In order to detect Book III-S and Book III-E, we check the PPC_FEATURE_BOOKE from the host's HWCAP (by getauxval on glibc >= 2.16. If getauxval doesn't exist, we implement the fallback by parsing /proc/self/auxv), because it should an invariant on the same machine cross different processes. add "this" pointers to more target APIs
A subsequent pass introduces delegation helper functions to the target API. This delegation is much cleaner if the target_ops pointer is directly available at delegation time. This patch adds the "this" pointer to various to_* methods for this purpose. This updates a number of ports which I am unable to test. Please give them a look-over. fix PR symtab/15719
This patch fixes PR symtab/15719. The bug is that "watch -location" crashes on a certain expression. The problem is that fetch_subexp_value is catching an exception. For ordinary watchpoints this is ok; but for location watchpoints, it is better for the exception to propagate. Built and regtested on x86-64 Fedora 18. New test case included. Normalize on PATH_MAX instead of MAXPATHLEN throughout.
With the pathmax gnulib module in place, we can use PATH_MAX consistently throughout, instead of the current mixbag of PATH_MAX and MAXPATHLEN uses. It's no longer necessary to include sys/param.h (supposedly, I can't check all ports touched here) for MAXPATHLEN. Don't remove sys/param.h from GDB's configure.ac, as later tests in the file use HAVE_SYS_PARAM_H checks. Tested on x86_64 Fedora 17. Use gdb_byte for bytes from the program being debugged.
gdb_byte should be used for bytes from the program being debugged. We have many places using char or unsigned char instead all over the existing ports, and more ends up added over time due to copy/paste as new code is based on old code. I've greped the tree for "char buf[", and fixed all I found.
