As an update to commit ede5f15146 ("gdbarch.h: Change
gdbarch_info::tdep_info's type to void *") replace the definition of the
`tdep_info' member in `struct gdbarch_info' with an anonymous union,
comprising the original member, with its type reverted to `struct
gdbarch_tdep_info *', a `tdesc_data' member of a `struct tdesc_arch_data
*' type and an `id' member of an `int *' type. Remove now unnecessary
casts throughout use places then, making code easier to read an less
prone to errors, which may happen with casting.

[PATCH 0/6] Unify the disassembler selection in gdb and objdump
https://sourceware.org/ml/binutils/2017-05/msg00192.html
that is, opcodes is able to select the right disassembler, so gdb
doesn't have to select them. Instead, gdb can just use
default_print_insn. As a result, these print_insn_XXX are not used
out of opcodes, so this patch also moves their declarations from
include/dis-asm.h to opcodes/disassemble.h. With this change,
GDB doesn't use any print_insn_XXX directly any more.

This patch addes class gdb_disassembler, and refactor
code to use it. The gdb_disassembler object is saved
in disassember_info.application_data. However,
disassember_info.application_data is already used by
gdb for arm, mips spu, and scm-disasm. In arm and mips,
.application_data is gdbarch, but we can still get gdbarch
from gdb_disassember.
The use of application_data in spu is a little bit
complicated. It creates its own disassemble_info, and
save spu_dis_asm_data in .application_data. This will
overwrite the pointer to gdb_disassembler, so we need
to find another place to save spu_dis_asm_data. I
extend disassemble_info, and put "id" there.

A relatively recent patch support for explicit locations, and part
of that patch cleaned up the way we parse breakpoint locations.
Unfortunatly, a small regression crept in for "*<EXPR>" breakpoint
locations. In particular, on PIE programs, one can see the issue by
doing the following, with any program:
(gdb) b *main
Breakpoint 1 at 0x51a: file hello.c, line 3.
(gdb) run
Starting program: /[...]/hello
Error in re-setting breakpoint 1: Warning:

Just for the record, this regression was introduced by:

Subject: Explicit locations: introduce address locations
What happens is that the patch makes the implicit assumption that
the address computed the first time is static, as if it was designed
to only support litteral expressions (Eg. "*0x1234"). This allows
the shortcut of not re-computing the breakpoint location's address
when re-setting breakpoints.
However, this does not work in general, as demonstrated in the example
above.
This patch plugs that hole simply by saving the original expression
used to compute the address as part of the address location, so as
to then re-evaluate that expression during breakpoint re-set.

This patch converts the code base to use the new struct event_location
API being introduced. This patch preserves the current functionality and
adds no new features.
The "big picture" API usage introduced by this patch may be illustrated
with a simple exmaple. Where previously developers would write:
void
my_command (char *arg, int from_tty)
{
create_breakpoint (..., arg, ...);
...
}
one now uses:
void
my_command (char *arg, int from_tty)
{
struct event_locaiton *location;
struct cleanup *back_to;
location = string_to_event_locaiton (&arg, ...);
back_to = make_cleanup_delete_event_location (location);
create_breakpoint (..., location, ...);
do_cleanups (back_to);
}
Linespec-decoding functions (now called location-decoding) such as
decode_line_full no longer skip argument pointers over processed input.
That functionality has been moved into string_to_event_location as
demonstrated above.

Add tests for missing ",FMT" and ",".
We concluded that gdbarch_in_function_epilogue_p is misnamed, since it
returns true if the given PC is one instruction after the one that
destroyed the stack (which isn't necessarily inside an epilogue),
therefore it should be renamed to stack_frame_destroyed_p.
I also took the liberty of renaming the arch-specific implementations to
*_stack_frame_destroyed_p as well for consistency.

Nowadays, in infrun.c:resume, the setting to 'step' variable is like:
if (use_displaced_stepping (gdbarch)
&& tp->control.trap_expected
&& sig == GDB_SIGNAL_0
&& !current_inferior ()->waiting_for_vfork_done)
{
}
/* Do we need to do it the hard way, w/temp breakpoints? */
else if (step)
step = maybe_software_singlestep (gdbarch, pc); <-- [1]
...
if (execution_direction != EXEC_REVERSE
&& step && breakpoint_inserted_here_p (aspace, pc))
{
...
if (gdbarch_cannot_step_breakpoint (gdbarch)) <-- [2]
step = 0;
}
spu doesn't have displaced stepping and uses software single step,
so 'step' is set to zero in [1], and [2] becomes unreachable as a
result. So don't have to call set_gdbarch_cannot_step_breakpoint
in spu_gdbarch_init.

Currently "symtabs" in gdb are stored as a single linked list of
struct symtab that contains both symbol symtabs (the blockvectors)
and file symtabs (the linetables).
This has led to confusion, bugs, and performance issues.
This patch is conceptually very simple: split struct symtab into
two pieces: one part containing things common across the entire
compilation unit, and one part containing things specific to each
source file.
Example.
For the case of a program built out of these files:
foo.c
foo1.h
foo2.h
bar.c
foo1.h
bar.h
Today we have a single list of struct symtabs:
objfile -> foo.c -> foo1.h -> foo2.h -> bar.c -> foo1.h -> bar.h -> NULL
where "->" means the "next" pointer in struct symtab.
With this patch, that turns into:
objfile -> foo.c(cu) -> bar.c(cu) -> NULL

v v
foo.c bar.c

v v
foo1.h foo1.h

v v
foo2.h bar.h

v v
NULL NULL
where "foo.c(cu)" and "bar.c(cu)" are struct compunit_symtab objects,
and the files foo.c, etc. are struct symtab objects.
So now, for example, when we want to iterate over all blockvectors
we can now just iterate over the compunit_symtab list.
Plus a lot of the data that was either unused or replicated for each
symtab in a compilation unit now lives in struct compunit_symtab.
E.g., the objfile pointer, the producer string, etc.
I thought of moving "language" out of struct symtab but there is
logic to try to compute the language based on previously seen files,
and I think that's best left as is for now.
With my standard monster benchmark with -readnow (which I can't actually
do, but based on my calculations), whereas today the list requires
77MB to store all the struct symtabs, it now only requires 37MB.
A modest space savings given the gigabytes needed for all the debug info,
etc. Still, it's nice. Plus, whereas today we create a copy of dirname
for each source file symtab in a compilation unit, we now only create one
for the compunit.
So this patch is basically just a data structure reorg,
I don't expect significant performance improvements from it.
Notes:
1) A followup patch can do a similar split for struct partial_symtab.
I have left that until after I get the changes I want in to
better utilize .gdb_index (it may affect how we do partial syms).
2) Another followup patch *could* rename struct symtab.
The term "symtab" is ambiguous and has been a source of confusion.
In this patch I'm leaving it alone, calling it the "historical" name
of "filetabs", which is what they are now: just the file-name + line-table.

gdb/testsuite/ChangeLog:
* gdb.base/maint.exp: Update expected output.
There is another function, lookup_symbol_aux_block, and
the names lookup_block_symbol and lookup_symbol_aux_block don't
convey any real difference between them.
The difference is that lookup_block_symbol lives in the lower level
block API, and lookup_symbol_aux_block lives in the higher level symtab API.
This patch makes this distinction clear.
gdb/ChangeLog:
* symtab.c (lookup_block_symbol): Moved to ...

Generally, the blockvector ought to be readonly. So, this patch makes
the blockvector const in the symtab, and also changes various
blockvector APIs to be const.
This patch has a couple of spots that cast away const. I consider
these to be ok because they occur in mdebugread and are used while
constructing the blockvector. I have added comments at these spots.

Currently there are many calls to help_list that pass the constant -1
as the "class" value. However, the parameter is declared as being of
type enum command_class, and uses of the constant violate this
abstraction.

In addition to appending the DWARF unwinders, we also need to install
a spu_dwarf_reg_to_regnum that maps the raw stack pointer register to
the cooked version (to avoid mismatches with gdbarch_sp_regnum).
This also causes confusion with the AX collect handling, so we also
install ax_pseudo_register routines to handle the cooked SP.

This patch fixes a problem that prevented use of the Dwarf unwinders on SPU,
because dwarf2-frame.c common code did not support the situation where the
stack and/or frame pointer is maintained in a *vector* register. This is
because read_addr_from_reg is hard-coded to assume that such pointers can
be read from registers via a simple get_frame_register / unpack_pointer
operation.
Now, there *is* a routine address_from_register that calls into the
appropriate tdep routines to handle pointer values in "weird" registers
like on SPU, but it turns out I cannot simply change dwarf2-frame.c to
use address_from_register. This is because address_from_register uses
value_from_register to create a (temporary) value, and that routine
at some point calls get_frame_id in order to set up that value's
VALUE_FRAME_ID entry.
However, the dwarf2-frame.c read_addr_from_reg routine will be called
during early unwinding (to unwind the frame's CFA), at which point the
frame's ID is not actually known yet! This would cause an assert.
On the other hand, we may notice that VALUE_FRAME_ID is only needed in the
value returned by value_from_register if that value is later used as an
lvalue. But this is obviously never done to the temporary value used in
address_from_register. So, if we could change address_from_register to
not call value_from_register but instead accept constructing a value
that doesn't have VALUE_FRAME_ID set, things should be fine.
To do that, we can change the value_from_register callback to accept
a FRAME_ID instead of a FRAME; the only existing uses of the FRAME
argument were either to extract its frame ID, or its gdbarch. (To
keep a way of getting at the latter, we also change the callback's
type from "f" to "m".) Together with the required follow-on changes
in the existing value_from_register implementations (including the
default one), this seems to fix the problem.
As another minor interface cleanup, I've removed the explicit TYPE
argument from address_from_register. This routine really always
uses a default pointer type, and in the new implementation it -to
some extent- relies on that fact, in that it will now no longer
handle types that require gdbarch_convert_register_p handling.

This is sort of the opposite of the previous patch. Places that
manipulate strings or interfaces that return strings are changed to
use char* instead of gdb_byte*.

Adjust.
(info_spu_event_command, info_spu_signal_command): Add casts to
'char *'.
-Wpointer-sign catches all these cases across the codebase that should
be using gdb_byte for raw target bytes. I think these are all
obvious, hence I've collapsed into a single patch.
