This commit applies all changes made after running the gdb/copyright.py
script.
Note that one file was flagged by the script, due to an invalid
copyright header
(gdb/unittests/basic_string_view/element_access/char/empty.cc).
As the file was copied from GCC's libstdc++-v3 testsuite, this commit
leaves this file untouched for the time being; a patch to fix the header
was sent to gcc-patches first.
gdb/ChangeLog:
Update copyright year range in all GDB files.
This commit removes a workaround for a bug in glibc 2.1.3, which
was released 2000-02-24 and superseded 2000-11-09.
gdb/ChangeLog:
* gdb_proc_service.h (gdb_prfpregset_t): Remove typedef.
* proc-service.c (ps_lgetfpregs, ps_lsetfpregs): Use
prfpregset_t instead of gdb_prfpregset_t.
* configure.ac (PRFPREGSET_T_BROKEN): Remove check.
* configure, config.in: Rebuild.
Commit 00431a78b2 ("Use thread_info and inferior pointers more
throughout") broke Cell multi-arch debugging, because it made the
proc-service routines (ps_lgetregs etc.) access registers using the
SPU architecture if GDB happens to interrupt SPU code. The
proc-service routines must always operate on the "main" (in this case
PowerPC) architecture, because that's the register set libthread_db
expects to be using.
Restore the previous behavior, but wrapped in a new
get_ps_regcache function with a describing comment.
Also, the ps_l*regs routines have an explicit lwpid parameter that
said commit missed; with the commit mentioned above, we started always
reading the registers off of the current thread, which is incorrect.
That is fixed by this commit too.

This is more preparation bits for multi-target support.
In a multi-target scenario, we need to address the case of different
processes/threads running on different targets that happen to have the
same PID/PTID. E.g., we can have both process 123 in target 1, and
process 123 in target 2, while they're in reality different processes
running on different machines. Or maybe we've loaded multiple
instances of the same core file. Etc.
To address this, in my WIP multi-target branch, threads and processes
are uniquely identified by the (process_stratum target_ops *, ptid_t)
and (process_stratum target_ops *, pid) tuples respectively. I.e.,
each process_stratum instance has its own thread/process number space.
As you can imagine, that requires passing around target_ops * pointers
in a number of functions where we're currently passing only a ptid_t
or an int. E.g., when we look up a thread_info object by ptid_t in
find_thread_ptid, the ptid_t alone isn't sufficient.
In many cases though, we already have the thread_info or inferior
pointer handy, but we "lose" it somewhere along the call stack, only
to look it up again by ptid_t/pid. Since thread_info or inferior
objects know their parent target, if we pass around thread_info or
inferior pointers when possible, we avoid having to add extra
target_ops parameters to many functions, and also, we eliminate a
number of by ptid_t/int lookups.
So that's what this patch does. In a bit more detail:
- Changes a number of functions and methods to take a thread_info or
inferior pointer instead of a ptid_t or int parameter.
- Changes a number of structure fields from ptid_t/int to inferior or
thread_info pointers.
- Uses the inferior_thread() function whenever possible instead of
inferior_ptid.
- Uses thread_info pointers directly when possible instead of the
is_running/is_stopped etc. routines that require a lookup.
- A number of functions are eliminated along the way, such as:
int valid_gdb_inferior_id (int num);
int pid_to_gdb_inferior_id (int pid);
int gdb_inferior_id_to_pid (int num);
int in_inferior_list (int pid);
- A few structures and places hold a thread_info pointer across
inferior execution, so now they take a strong reference to the
(refcounted) thread_info object to avoid the thread_info pointer
getting stale. This is done in enable_thread_stack_temporaries and
in the infcall.c code.
- Related, there's a spot in infcall.c where using a RAII object to
handle the refcount would be handy, so a gdb::ref_ptr specialization
for thread_info is added (thread_info_ref, in gdbthread.h), along
with a gdb_ref_ptr policy that works for all refcounted_object types
(in common/refcounted-object.h).

Given that GCC has obsoleted/removed support for Solaris 9 in GCC 4.9/5 in 2013:
https://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-4.9/changes.htmlhttps://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-patches/2013-05/msg00728.html
and the last gdb version that can be compiled with gcc 4.9 is 7.12.1 only when
configured with --disable-build-with-cxx, it's time to obsolete/remove support
for Solaris < 10.
This patch does this, simplifying configure.nat along the way (only a single
sol2 configuration with variants for i386 and sparc).
Some configure checks for older Solaris versions can go, too, and the check
for libthread_db.so.1 removed:
* Since Solaris 10, dlopen has moved to libc and libdl.so is just a
filter on ld.so.1, so no need to check.
* $RDYNAMIC is already handled above (and is a no-op with Solaris ld
anyway).
Both proc-service.c and sol-thread.c lose support for (Solaris-only)
PROC_SERVICE_IS_OLD.
The attached revised patch has been tested on sparcv9-sun-solaris2.10,
sparcv9-sun-solaris2.11.4, amd64-pc-solaris2.10, amd64-pc-solaris2.11.4,
and x86_64-pc-linux-gnu.
I've also started an i386-pc-solaris2.9 build to check that it really
stops as expected.

This removes save_inferior_ptid, a cleanup function, in favor of
scoped_restore.
This also fixes a possible (it seems unlikely that it could happen in
practice) memory leak -- save_inferior_ptid should have used
make_cleanup_dtor, because it allocated memory.
I tested this on the buildbot. However, there are two caveats to
this. First, sometimes it seems I misread the results. Second, I
think this patch touches some platforms that can't be tested by the
buildbot. So, extra care seems warranted.

avoid a circular dependency.
Tested on x86-64 Fedora 23, native and gdbserver.

Now that the to_fetch_registers, to_store_registers and
to_prepare_to_store target methods don't rely on the value of
inferior_ptid anymore, we can remove a bunch of now unnecessary setting
and restoring of inferior_ptid.
The asserts added recently in target_fetch_registers and
target_store_registers, which validate that inferior_ptid matches the
regcache's ptid, must go away. It's the whole point of this effort, to
not require inferior_ptid to have a particular value when calling these
functions.
One thing that I noticed is how sol-thread.c's ps_lgetregs and friends
use the current value of inferior_ptid instead of what's passed as
argument (ph->ptid), unlike proc-service.c's versions of the same
functions. Is it expected? I left it like this in the current patch,
but unless there's a good reason for it to be that way, I guess we
should make it use the parameter.
gdb/ChangeLog:
* fbsd-tdep.c (fbsd_corefile_thread): Don't set/restore
inferior_ptid.
* proc-service.c (ps_lgetregs, ps_lsetregs, ps_lgetfpregs,

* target.c (target_fetch_registers, target_store_registers):
Remove asserts.
This applies the second part of GDB's End of Year Procedure, which
updates the copyright year range in all of GDB's files.
gdb/ChangeLog:
Update copyright year range in all GDB files.
A cast here is necessary, just as it's necessary in ps_pdwrite just
below. The type of buf can't be changed, since it's fixed in the ps_pd*
API.
gdb/ChangeLog:
* proc-service.c (ps_pdread): Add cast.
This patch introduces find_inferior_ptid to replace the common idiom
find_inferior_pid (ptid_get_pid (...));
It replaces all the instances of that idiom that I found with the new
function.
No significant changes before/after the patch in the regression suite
on amd64 linux.
gdb/ChangeLog:

* inferior.h (find_inferior_ptid): New declaration.

gdb/proc-service.c includes several libthread_db callbacks that do not
exist in gdb/gdbserver/proc-service.c. Other than in proc_service.h,
there is no reference to any of these callbacks in any revision of
nptl_db or linuxthreads_db in glibc's git repo so it seems likely that
these functions have never been called. This commit removes them.
