John Baldwin 481695ed5f Remove unnecessary function prototypes. 
These prototypes were required when compiling GDB as C but are not
required for C++.

Yao Qi 39503f8242 Delegate opcodes to select disassembler in GDB 
This patch changes GDB to use disassembler selected by opcodes in
default, so that we don't have to duplicate the selection logic again
in GDB side.  For example, gdb/score-tdep.c has

Pedro Alves 53375380e9 Teach GDB that wchar_t is a built-in type in C++ mode 
GDB is currently not aware that wchar_t is a built-in type in C++
mode.  This is usually not a problem because the debug info describes
the type, so when you have a program loaded, you don't notice this.
However, if you try expressions involving wchar_t before a program is
loaded, gdb errors out:

 (gdb) p (wchar_t)-1
 No symbol table is loaded.  Use the "file" command.
 (gdb) p L"hello"
 No type named wchar_t.
 (gdb) ptype L"hello"
 No type named wchar_t.

This commit teaches gdb about the type.  After:

 (gdb) p (wchar_t)-1
 $1 = -1 L'\xffffffff'
 (gdb) p L"hello"
 $2 = L"hello"
 (gdb) ptype L"hello"
 type = wchar_t [6]

Unlike char16_t/char32_t, unfortunately, the underlying type of
wchar_t is implementation dependent, both size and signness.  So this
requires adding a couple new gdbarch hooks.

I grepped the GCC code base for WCHAR_TYPE and WCHAR_TYPE_SIZE, and it
seems to me that the majority of the ABIs have a 4-byte signed
wchar_t, so that's what I made the default for GDB too.  And then I
looked for which ports have a 16-bit and/or unsigned wchar_t, and made
GDB follow suit.

Yao Qi 04180708ef Remove GDBARCH_BREAKPOINT_MANIPULATION and SET_GDBARCH_BREAKPOINT_MANIPULATION 
Both of them are used in conversion.  We can remove them since the
conversion is done.

There are many architectures only have one breakpoint instruction,
so their gdbarch methods breakpoint_kind_from_pc and
sw_breakpoint_from_kind look very similar.  Instead of macro, we
use template "template <size_t, const gdb_byte *> struct bp_manipulation"
for these architectures.  In order to use template, I also change
breakpoint instruction of type "static const gdb_byte[]" to
"constexpr gdb_byte[]", and rename them to ARCH_break_insn.

Ulrich Weigand 88dfca6c43 Add some missing arch_..._type helpers 
gdbtypes provides a number of helper routines that can be called instead of
using arch_type directly to create a type of a particular kind.  This patch
adds two additional such routines that have been missing so far, to allow
creation of TYPE_CODE_DECFLOAT and TYPE_CODE_POINTER types.

The patch also changes a number of places to use the new helper routines
instead of calling arch_type directly.  No functional change intended.

Denis Chertykov cb86f3880e Fix argument passing for call 
When calling function with argument of size more than 8 bytes fails with
an error "That operation is not available on integers of more than 8 bytes.".
avr-gdb considers only 8 bytes (sizeof(long long)) in case of passing the
argument in registers. When the argument is of size more than 8 byte
then the utility function to extract bytes failed with the above error.

Simon Marchi 9a3c826307 Add some more casts (1/2) 
Note: I needed to split this patch in two, otherwise it's too big for
the mailing list.

This patch adds explicit casts to situations where a void pointer is
assigned to a pointer to the "real" type.  Building in C++ mode requires
those assignments to use an explicit cast.  This includes, for example:

 - callback arguments (cleanups, comparison functions, ...)
 - data attached to some object (objfile, program space, etc) in the form
   of a void pointer
 - "user data" passed to some function

This patch comes from the commit "(mostly) auto-generated patch to insert
casts needed for C++", taken from Pedro's C++ branch.

Only files built on x86 with --enable-targets=all are modified, so the
native files for other arches will need to be dealt with separately.

I built-tested this with --enable-targets=all and reg-tested.  To my
surprise, a test case (selftest.exp) had to be adjusted.

Here's the ChangeLog entry.  Again, this was relatively quick to make
despite the length, thanks to David Malcom's script, although I don't
believe it's very useful information in that particular case...

Simon Marchi 8d7493201c Replace some xmalloc-family functions with XNEW-family ones 
This patch is part of the make-gdb-buildable-in-C++ effort.  The idea is
to change some calls to the xmalloc family of functions to calls to the
equivalents in the XNEW family.  This avoids adding an explicit cast, so
it keeps the code a bit more readable.  Some of them also map relatively
well to a C++ equivalent (XNEW (struct foo) -> new foo), so it will be
possible to do scripted replacements if needed.

I only changed calls that were obviously allocating memory for one or
multiple "objects".  Allocation of variable sizes (such as strings or
buffer handling) will be for later (and won't use XNEW).

I regtested on x86-64, Ubuntu 14.04, but the patch touches many
architecture-specific files.  For those I'll have to rely on the
buildbot or people complaining that I broke their gdb.

Pierre Langlois 7d0d9d2bee Clarify the address and pointer conversions on AVR. 
This patch adds additional comments about the conversion of addresses to
pointers and vice-versa on AVR.

Special conversion needs to be done when dealing with an address in the
flash address space, where both code and read-only data can be stored.
Code and data pointers to flash are not addressed the same way:

A code pointer is 16 bit addressed.  A data pointer is 8 bit addressed,
even if the data is in flash.

Pierre Langlois 487d975399 Add support for the __flash qualifier on AVR 
The __flash qualifier is part of the named address spaces for AVR [1]. It
allows putting read-only data in the flash memory, normally reserved for
code.

When used together with a pointer, the DW_AT_address_class attribute is set
to 1 and allows GDB to detect that when it will be dereferenced, the data
will be loaded from the flash memory (with the LPM instruction).

We can now properly debug the following code:

Tom Tromey 77e371c079 start change to progspace independence 
This patch starts changing minimal symbols to be independent of the
program space.

Specifically, it adds a new objfile parameter to MSYMBOL_VALUE_ADDRESS
and changes all the code to use it.  This is needed so we can change
gdb to apply the section offset when a minsym's address is computed,
as opposed to baking the offsets into the symbol itself.

A few spots still need the unrelocated address.  For these, we
introduce MSYMBOL_VALUE_RAW_ADDRESS.

As a convenience, we also add the new macro BMSYMBOL_VALUE_ADDRESS,
which computes the address of a bound minimal symbol.  This just does
the obvious thing with the fields.

Note that this change does not actually enable program space
independence.  That requires more changes to gdb.  However, to ensure
that these changes compile properly, this patch does add the needed
section lookup code to MSYMBOL_VALUE_ADDRESS -- it just ensures it has
no effect at runtime by multiplying the offset by 0.

Tom Tromey 3b7344d5ab use bound_minsym as result for lookup_minimal_symbol et al 
This patch changes a few minimal symbol lookup functions to return a
bound_minimal_symbol rather than a pointer to the minsym.  This change
helps prepare gdb for computing a minimal symbol's address at the
point of use.

Note that this changes even those functions that ostensibly search a
single objfile.  That was necessary because, in fact, those functions
can search an objfile and its separate debug objfiles; and it is
important for the caller to know in which objfile the minimal symbol
was actually found.

The bulk of this patch is mechanical.

Tom Tromey efd66ac669 change minsym representation 
In a later patch we're going to change the minimal symbol address
calculation to apply section offsets at the point of use.  To make it
simpler to catch potential problem spots, this patch changes the
representation of minimal symbols and introduces new
minimal-symbol-specific variants of the various accessors.  This is
necessary because it would be excessively ambitious to try to convert
all the symbol types at once.

The core of this change is just renaming a field in minimal_symbol;
the rest is just a fairly mechanical rewording.

Sergio Durigan Junior eb14d40688 This patch implements the new gdbarch method gdbarch_gdb_signal_to_target. 
It will be used when one wants to convert between the internal GDB signal
representation (enum gdb_signal) and the target's representation.

The idea of this patch came from a chat between Pedro and I on IRC, plus
the discussion of my patches to add the new $_exitsignal convenience
variable:

What I did was to investigate, on the Linux kernel, which targets shared
the signal numbers definition with the generic definition, present at
<include/uapi/asm-generic/signal.h>.  For the record, I used linux-3.10-rc7
as the main source of information, always looking at
<arch/<ARCH_NAME>/include/uapi/asm/signal.h>.  For SIGRTMAX (which defaults
to _NSIG in most cases), I had to look at different signal-related
files, but most of them (except MIPS) were defined to 64 anyway.

Then, with all the differences in hand, I implemented the bits on each
target.

Pedro Alves 001f13d822 -Wpointer-sign: gdb_byte -> char. 
This is sort of the opposite of the previous patch.  Places that
manipulate strings or interfaces that return strings are changed to
use char* instead of gdb_byte*.

Pedro Alves e362b51003 Use gdb_byte for bytes from the program being debugged. 
gdb_byte should be used for bytes from the program being debugged.  We
have many places using char or unsigned char instead all over the
existing ports, and more ends up added over time due to copy/paste as
new code is based on old code.

I've greped the tree for "char buf[", and fixed all I found.

Tested by building with --enable-targets=all.
