Tom Tromey 3977b71f1d constify struct block in some places
This makes some spots in gdb, particularly general_symbol_info, use a
"const struct block", then fixes the fallout.

The justification is that, ordinarily, blocks ought to be readonly.
Note though that we can't add "const" in the blockvector due to block
relocation. This can be done once blocks are made independent of the
program space.

Yao Qi b55fbac484 Remove target_read_live_memory
As we move code on reading unavailable memory to target side, GDB core
side doesn't need the "switching momentarily out of tfind mode" dance.
The target remote knows how to read live memory (through remote_ops).

Remove set_traceframe_number and
make_cleanup_restore_traceframe_number, since they are no longer used.

gdb:

	* remote.c (target_read_live_memory): Remove.
	(memory_xfer_live_readonly_partial): Rename it to

	All callers updated.  Call remote_read_bytes_1
	instead of target_read_live_memory.

	(make_cleanup_restore_traceframe_number): Likewise .
	* tracepoint.h (set_traceframe_number): Remove declaration.

Yao Qi cc3da68801 Fix PR16508
This patch fixes PR16508, which is about MI "-trace-find frame-number 0"
behaves differently from CLI "tfind 0". In CLI, we check both
status->running and status->filename, but in MI, we only check
status->running, which looks wrong to me. This patch moves the code
of checking to a new function check_trace_running, and use it in
both CLI and MI.

This patch also adds a test case pr16508.exp, which fails without this
fix, and passes with the fix applied.

Tom Tromey 729662a522 change probes to be program-space-independent
This changes the probes to be independent of the program space.

After this, when a probe's address is needed, it is determined by
applying offsets at the point of use.

This introduces a bound_probe object, similar to bound minimal
symbols. Objects of this type are used when it's necessary to pass a
probe and its corresponding objfile.

This removes the backlink from probe to objfile, which was primarily
used to fetch the architecture to use.

This adds a get_probe_address function which calls a probe method to
compute the probe's relocated address. Similarly, it adds an objfile
parameter to the semaphore methods so they can do the relocation
properly as well.

Tom Tromey 77e371c079 start change to progspace independence
This patch starts changing minimal symbols to be independent of the
program space.

Specifically, it adds a new objfile parameter to MSYMBOL_VALUE_ADDRESS
and changes all the code to use it. This is needed so we can change
gdb to apply the section offset when a minsym's address is computed,
as opposed to baking the offsets into the symbol itself.

A few spots still need the unrelocated address. For these, we
introduce MSYMBOL_VALUE_RAW_ADDRESS.

As a convenience, we also add the new macro BMSYMBOL_VALUE_ADDRESS,
which computes the address of a bound minimal symbol. This just does
the obvious thing with the fields.

Note that this change does not actually enable program space
independence. That requires more changes to gdb. However, to ensure
that these changes compile properly, this patch does add the needed
section lookup code to MSYMBOL_VALUE_ADDRESS -- it just ensures it has
no effect at runtime by multiplying the offset by 0.

Tom Tromey 3b7344d5ab use bound_minsym as result for lookup_minimal_symbol et al
This patch changes a few minimal symbol lookup functions to return a
bound_minimal_symbol rather than a pointer to the minsym. This change
helps prepare gdb for computing a minimal symbol's address at the
point of use.

Note that this changes even those functions that ostensibly search a
single objfile. That was necessary because, in fact, those functions
can search an objfile and its separate debug objfiles; and it is
important for the caller to know in which objfile the minimal symbol
was actually found.

The bulk of this patch is mechanical.

Tom Tromey efd66ac669 change minsym representation
In a later patch we're going to change the minimal symbol address
calculation to apply section offsets at the point of use. To make it
simpler to catch potential problem spots, this patch changes the
representation of minimal symbols and introduces new
minimal-symbol-specific variants of the various accessors. This is
necessary because it would be excessively ambitious to try to convert
all the symbol types at once.

The core of this change is just renaming a field in minimal_symbol;
the rest is just a fairly mechanical rewording.

Tom Tromey 9f1b45b0da don't let bin2hex call strlen
Currently bin2hex may call strlen if the length argument is zero.

Tom Tromey 9c3d65319a move some rsp bits into rsp-low.h
This moves various low-level remote serial protocol bits into
common/rsp-low.[ch].

This is as close to a pure move as possible. There are some
redundancies remaining but those will be dealt with in a subsequent
patch.

Note that the two variants of remote_escape_output disagreed on the
treatment of "*". On the theory that quoting cannot hurt but the
absence possibly can, I chose the gdbserver variant to be the
canonical one.

Yao Qi 9b409511d0 Return target_xfer_status in to_xfer_partial
This patch does the conversion of to_xfer_partial from

    LONGEST (*to_xfer_partial) (struct target_ops *ops,
				enum target_object object, const char *annex,
				gdb_byte *readbuf, const gdb_byte *writebuf,
				ULONGEST offset, ULONGEST len);

to

    enum target_xfer_status (*to_xfer_partial) (struct target_ops *ops,
				enum target_object object, const char *annex,
				gdb_byte *readbuf, const gdb_byte *writebuf,
				ULONGEST offset, ULONGEST len, ULONGEST *xfered_len);

It changes to_xfer_partial return the transfer status and the transfered
length by *XFERED_LEN. Generally, the return status has three stats,

 - TARGET_XFER_OK,
 - TARGET_XFER_EOF,
 - TARGET_XFER_E_XXXX,

See the comments to them in 'enum target_xfer_status'. Note that
Pedro suggested not name TARGET_XFER_DONE, as it is confusing,
compared with "TARGET_XFER_OK". We finally name it TARGET_XFER_EOF.

With this change, GDB core can handle unavailable data in a convenient
way.

The rationale behind this change was mentioned here
https://sourceware.org/ml/gdb-patches/2013-10/msg00761.html

Consider an object/value like this:

  0          100      150        200           512
  DDDDDDDDDDDxxxxxxxxxDDDDDD...DDIIIIIIIIIIII..III

where D is valid data, and xxx is unavailable data, and I is beyond
the end of the object (Invalid). Currently, if we start the
xfer at 0, requesting, say 512 bytes, we'll first get back 100 bytes.
The xfer machinery then retries fetching [100,512), and gets back
TARGET_XFER_E_UNAVAILABLE.  That's sufficient when you're either
interested in either having the whole of the 512 bytes available,
or erroring out. But, in this scenario, we're interested in
the data at [150,512). The problem is that the last
TARGET_XFER_E_UNAVAILABLE gives us no indication where to
start the read next. We'd need something like:

get me [0,512) >>>
     <<< here's [0,100), *xfered_len is 100, returns TARGET_XFER_OK

get me [100,512)  >>> (**1)
     <<< [100,150) is unavailable, *xfered_len is 50, return TARGET_XFER_E_UNAVAILABLE.

get me [150,512) >>>
     <<< here's [150,200), *xfered_len is 50, return TARGET_XFER_OK.

get me [200,512) >>>
     <<< no more data, return TARGET_XFER_EOF.

This naturally implies pushing down the decision of whether
to return TARGET_XFER_E_UNAVAILABLE or something else
down to the target. (Which kinds of leads back to tfile
itself reading from RO memory from file (though we could
export a function in exec.c for that that tfile delegates to,
instead of re-adding the old code).

Beside this change, we also add a macro TARGET_XFER_STATUS_ERROR_P to
check whether a status is an error or not, to stop using "status < 0".
This patch also eliminates the comparison between status and 0.

No target implementations to to_xfer_partial adapts this new
interface. The interface still behaves as before.

This PC guessing can't work when the PC is a pseudo-register.

Honggyu Kim e261678878 Remove duplicated #include's from GDB
This patch simply removes duplicated #include statements in the gdb/
directory. If there are two duplicated #include statements, this patch
keeps the first #include and removes the second.

Those duplicates have been found by using the checkincludes.pl tool from
the Linux kernel and double checked manually once again if the #include
statements are affected by #ifdef macros.

Yao Qi 24a008139e Remove global traceframe_fun and traceframe_sal
I happen to see traceframe_fun and traceframe_sal are static variables,
which are not necessary to me. They are only used in set_traceframe_context,
and they are not stateful. This patch is to remove them.

The issue is that print_stack_frame always sets the current sal to the
frame's sal. print_frame_info (which print_stack_frame calls to do
most of the work) also sets the last displayed sal, but only if
print_what isn't LOCATION. Now the call in question, from within
thread.c:print_thread_info, does pass in LOCATION as print_what, but
print_stack_frame doesn't have the same check print_frame_info has.
We could consider adding it, but setting these globals depending on
print_what isn't very clean, IMO. What we have is two logically
distinct operations mixed in the same function(s):

  #1 - print frame, in the format specified by {print_what,
    print_level and print_args}.

  #2 - We're displaying a frame to the user, and I want the default
    sal to point here, because the program stopped here, or the user
    did some context-changing command (up, down, etc.).

So I added a new parameter to print_stack_frame & friends for point
#2, and went through all calls in the tree adjusting as necessary.

Tested on x86_64 Fedora 17.

Tom Tromey 7fdc15218d remove pop_target
This patch fixes the target double-close problem (PR remote/15266),
and in the process removes pop_target entire (PR remote/15256).

The first issue is that pop_target calls target_close. However, it
then calls unpush_target, which also calls target_close. This means
targets must be able to be closed twice. Not only is this strange,
but it also directly contradicts the contract of to_xclose targets.
(We currently have just a single such target, and it is never pushed;
but I plan to add more, and so this latent bug is triggered.)

The second issue is that it seems to me that calling pop_target is
often unsafe. This is what cropped up in 15256, where the remote
target assumed that it could pop_target -- but there was another
target higher on the stack, leading to confusion.

But, it is always just as easy to call unpush_target as it is to call
pop_target; and it is also safer. So, removing pop_target seemed like
an improvement.

Finally, this adds an assertion to target_close to ensure that no
currently-pushed target can be closed.

Built and regtested on x86-64 Fedora 18; both natively and using the
native-gdbserver board file.

	PR remote/15256, PR remote/15266:
	* bfd-target.c (target_bfd_reopen): Initialize to_magic.
	* monitor.c (monitor_detach): Use unpush_target.

	* remote-sim.c (gdbsim_detach): Use unpush_target.

	(target_close): Assert that the target is unpushed.
	* target.h (pop_target): Don't declare.
	* tracepoint.c (tfile_open): Use unpush_target.

With gnulib's unistd module, we can assume unistd.h is always present, and that

Don't remove unistd.h from GDB's configure.ac, as later tests in the

Pedro Alves bc20a4afc3 gdb_byte for binary buffer, char for string: remote.c, tracepoint.c.
While the RSP is largely ASCII based (hence the packet buffer type is
char *), at places we pass around 8-bit binary packets in that buffer.
Functions like hex2bin or remote_escape_output conceptually are
handling binary buffers, so I left them as working with gdb_byte, and
added casts where necessary. Whether these are host bytes or target
bytes is blurry at present, so this is largely a matter of taste.
Switching some of these functions to take "char *" or "void *" would
be equally good.

Pedro Alves 948f8e3d72 -Wpointer-sign: char -> gdb_byte.
-Wpointer-sign catches all these cases across the codebase that should
be using gdb_byte for raw target bytes. I think these are all
obvious, hence I've collapsed into a single patch.

Pedro Alves f81d112039 Accept "set foo unlimited" in integer/uinteger/zuinteger_unlimited commands.
Currently, several commands take "0" or "-1" to mean "unlimited".

"show" knows when to print "unlimited":

 (gdb) show height
 Number of lines gdb thinks are in a page is 45.
 (gdb) set height 0
 (gdb) show height
 Number of lines gdb thinks are in a page is unlimited.

However, the user can't herself specify "unlimited" directly:

 (gdb) set height unlimited
 No symbol table is loaded. Use the "file" command.
 (gdb)

This patch addresses that, by adjusting the set handler for all
integer/uinteger/zuinteger_unlimited commands to accept literal
"unlimited". It also installs a completer. Presently, we complete on
symbols by default, and at
<http://sourceware.org/ml/gdb-patches/2013-03/msg00864.html> I've
shown a WIP prototype that tried to keep that half working in these
commands. In the end, it turned out to be more complicated than
justifiable, IMO. It's super rare to want to pass the value of a
variable/symbol in the program to a GDB set/show knob. That'll still
work, it's just that we won't assist with completion anymore. This
patch just sticks with the simple, and completes on "unlimited", and
nothing else. This simplification means that

  "set he<tab><tab>"

is all it takes to get to:

  "set height unlimited"

The patch then goes through all integer/uinteger/zuinteger_unlimited
commands in the tree, and updates both the online help and the manual
to mention that "unlimited" is accepted in addition to 0/-1. In the
cases where the command had no online help text at all, this adds it.
I've tried to make the texts read in a way that "unlimited" is
suggested before "0" or "-1" is.

Tested on x86_64 Fedora 17.

Pedro Alves 2f9d54cfce make -gdb-exit call disconnect_tracing too, and don't lose history if the target errors on "quit"
Gareth mentions in PR gdb/15275:

 "The MI '-gdb-exit' command mi_cmd_gdb_exit() never calls disconnect_tracing()
 and therefore exits correctly."

It should, so to get out of tfind mode, as quit may detach instead of
kill, and we don't want to confuse the memory/register accesses
etc. of the detach process. So we should push down the disconnect
tracing bits at least to quit_force. But we can't as is, as that
would swallow the error thrown by answering "no" to:

  Trace is running but will stop on detach; detach anyway? (y or n)

So to address that, we split disconnect_tracing in two. One part that
does the query, and another part that does the rest, and we make
quit_force call the latter.

Looking at quit_force, it does several things, some of which are a bit
independent of the others. It first kills/detaches, and then writes
history, and then runs the final cleanups. It seems better to me to
do each of these things even if the previous thing throws. E.g., as
is, if something throws while detaching, then we skip writing history.

Tested on x86_64 Fedora 17.

Pedro Alves 6f937416b9 Constify strings in tracepoint.c, lookup_cmd and the completers.
This is sort of a continuation of Keith's parse_exp_1 constification
patch. It started out by undoing these bits:

  @@ -754,9 +754,12 @@ validate_actionline (char **line, struct
   	  tmp_p = p;
   	  for (loc = t->base.loc; loc; loc = loc->next)
   	    {
  -	      p = tmp_p;
  -	      exp = parse_exp_1 (&p, loc->address,
  +	      const char *q;
  +
  +	      q = tmp_p;
  +	      exp = parse_exp_1 (&q, loc->address,
   				 block_for_pc (loc->address), 1);
  +	      p = (char *) q;

and progressively making more things const upwards, fixing fallout,
rinse repeat, until GDB built again (--enable-targets=all).

That ended up constifying lookup_cmd/add_cmd and (lots of) friends,
and the completers.

I didn't try to constify the command hooks themselves, because I know
upfront there are commands that write to the command string argument,
and I think I managed to stop at a nice non-hacky split point already.

I think the only non-really-super-obvious changes are
tracepoint.c:validate_actionline, and tracepoint.c:trace_dump_actions.

The rest is just mostly about 'char *' => 'const char *', 'char **'=>
'const char **', and the occasional (e.g., deprecated_cmd_warning)
case of 'char **'=> 'const char *', where/when I noticed that nothing
actually cares about the pointer to pointer output.

Tested on x86_64 Fedora 17, native and gdbserver.
