Sergio Durigan Junior 7c5ded6a00 C++-fy and prepare for sharing fork_inferior
As a preparation for the next patch, which will move fork_inferior
from GDB to common/ (and therefore share it with gdbserver), it is
interesting to convert a few functions to C++.

This patch touches functions related to parsing command-line arguments
to the inferior (see gdb/fork-child.c:breakup_args), the way the
arguments are stored on fork_inferior (using std::vector instead of
char **), and the code responsible for dealing with argv also on
gdbserver.

I've taken this opportunity and decided to constify a few arguments to
fork_inferior/create_inferior as well, in order to make the code
cleaner. And now, on gdbserver, we're using xstrdup everywhere and
aren't checking for memory allocation failures anymore, as requested
by Pedro:

IMO this refactoring was very good to increase the readability of the
code as well, because some parts of the argument handling were
unnecessarily confusing before.

Simon Marchi 8eaf53202e Fix usage of inferior_ptid in two thread_alive implementations
While inspecting some target code, I noticed that in these two
implementations of thread_alive, inferior_ptid is referenced directly
instead of using the ptid passed as parameters. I guess that it is
wrong, although I can't really test it in both cases.

gdb/ChangeLog:

	* bsd-uthread.c (bsd_uthread_thread_alive): Use ptid instead of
	inferior_ptid.
	* go32-nat.c (go32_thread_alive): Likewise.

Pedro Alves f515a1d643 Fix djgpp gdb build
- A few missing casts required by C++, resulting in:

../../src/gdb/ser-go32.c:795:21: error: invalid conversion from 'const void*' to 'const char*' [-fpermissive]

   etc.

 - dos_noop has an incompatible prototype with struct serial_ops's
   setparity, resulting in:

../../src/gdb/ser-go32.c:874:1: error: invalid conversion from 'int (*)(serial*)' to 'int (*)(serial*, int)' [-fpermissive]

(I thought of calling the ser-base.c default methods, but djgpp
doesn't include ser-base.c in the build.)

gdb/ChangeLog:

	* go32-nat.c (go32_create_inferior): Add cast.
	* ser-go32.c (dos_noop): Delete.

Gary Benson df7e526582 Rename 32- and 64-bit Intel files from "i386" to "x86"
This commit renames nine files that contain code used by both 32- and
64-bit Intel ports such that their names are prefixed with "x86"
rather than "i386". All types, functions and variables within these
files are likewise renamed such that their names are prefixed with
"x86" rather than "i386". This makes GDB follow the convention used
by gdbserver such that 32-bit Intel code lives in files called
"i386-*", 64-bit Intel code lives in files called "amd64-*", and code
for both 32- and 64-bit Intel lives in files called "x86-*".

This commit only renames OS-independent files. The Linux ports of
both GDB and gdbserver now follow the i386/amd64/x86 convention fully.
Some ports still use the old convention where "i386" in file/function/
type/variable names can mean "32-bit only" or "32- and 64-bit" but I
don't want to touch ports I can't fully test except where absolutely
necessary.

Gary Benson b1ec390e09 Replace hardwired error handler in go32_create_inferior
go32_create_inferior invokes a hardwired fprintf/exit error handler
if v2loadimage fails. I could find no reason for this other than that
the block seems to have been copy-and-pasted from v2loadimage's
manpage. This commit replaces the hardwired handler with a call to
error.

Gary Benson bb974a2493 Move errno.h to common-defs.h
This commit moves the inclusion of errno.h to common-defs.h and
removes all other inclusions. Note that prior to this commit
server.h included errno.h protected by "#ifdef HAVE_ERRNO_H".
This protection was added with the Windows CE port, which is
currently broken. Since no other platform needs this, I have
removed the protection and the configury to support it.

Gary Benson 125f8a3dde Move shared native target specific code to gdb/nat
https://sourceware.org/gdb/wiki/Common describes the following
directory structure:

 gdb/nat/
Native target backend files. Code that interfaces with the
host debug API. E.g., ptrace code, Windows debug API code,
   procfs code should go here.

 gdb/target/
Host-independent, target vector specific code (target_ops).

 gdb/common/
   All other shared code.

This commit moves all native target backend files currently in
gdb/common to gdb/nat.

Tom Tromey c0939df1ce constify to_attach
This constifies the "args" argument to the target_ops to_attach
method.

I updated all instances of the method. I could not compile all of
them but I hand-inspected them. In all cases either the argument is
ignored, or it is passed to parse_pid_to_attach. (linux-nat does some
extra stuff, but that one I built...)

If you want to try it on your host of choice, please do so.

The code in parse_pid_to_attach seems a little bogus to me. If there
is a platform with a broken strtoul, we have better methods for fixing
the issue now. However, I left the code as is since it is clearly ok
to do so.

Built and regtested on x86-64 Fedora 20.

Pedro Alves 6a3cb8e88a Allow making GDB not automatically connect to the native target.
Sometimes it's useful to be able to disable the automatic connection
to the native target. E.g., sometimes GDB disconnects from the
extended-remote target I was debugging, without me noticing it, and
then I do "run". That starts the program locally, and only after a
little head scratch session do I figure out the program is running
locally instead of remotely as intended. Same thing with "attach",
"info os", etc.

With the patch, we now can have this instead:

 (gdb) set auto-connect-native-target off
 (gdb) target extended-remote :9999
 ...
 *gdb disconnects*
 (gdb) run
Don't know how to run. Try "help target".

To still be able to connect to the native target with
auto-connect-native-target set to off, I've made "target native" work
instead of erroring out as today.

Before:

 (gdb) target native
Use the "run" command to start a native process.

After:

 (gdb) target native
Done. Use the "run" command to start a process.
 (gdb) maint print target-stack
 The current target stack is:
   - native (Native process)
   - exec (Local exec file)
   - None (None)
 (gdb) run
 Starting program: ./a.out
 ...

I've also wanted this for the testsuite, when running against the
native-extended-gdbserver.exp board (runs against gdbserver in
extended-remote mode). With a non-native-target board, it's always a
bug to launch a program with the native target. Turns out we still
have one such case this patch catches:

 (gdb) break main
 Breakpoint 1 at 0x4009e5: file ../../../src/gdb/testsuite/gdb.base/coremaker.c, line 138.
 (gdb) run
Don't know how to run. Try "help target".
(gdb) FAIL: gdb.base/corefile.exp: run: with core

On the patch itself, probably the least obvious bit is the need to go
through all targets, and move the unpush_target call to after the
generic_mourn_inferior call instead of before. This is what
inf-ptrace.c does too, ever since multi-process support was added.
The reason inf-ptrace.c does things in that order is that in the
current multi-process/single-target model, we shouldn't unpush the
target if there are still other live inferiors being debugged. The
check for that is "have_inferiors ()" (a misnomer nowadays...), which
does:

 have_inferiors (void)
 {
   for (inf = inferior_list; inf; inf = inf->next)
     if (inf->pid != 0)
       return 1;

It's generic_mourn_inferior that ends up clearing inf->pid, so we need
to call it before the have_inferiors check. To make all native
targets behave the same WRT to explicit "target native", I've added an
inf_child_maybe_unpush_target function that targets call instead of
calling unpush_target directly, and as that includes the
have_inferiors check, I needed to adjust the targets.

Tested on x86_64 Fedora 20, native, and also with the
extended-gdbserver board.

Confirmed a cross build of djgpp gdb still builds.

Smoke tested a cross build of Windows gdb under Wine.

Untested otherwise.

Pedro Alves bd265cd0bd go32-nat.c: Don't install a deprecated_xfer_memory method
This removes yet another instance of a deprecated_xfer_memory user.

Unfortunately djgpp's write_child function takes a non-const buffer
pointer, while GDB's xfer_partial api passes a const pointer. To be
const-correct, we need to copy that buffer to a non-const buffer, and
pass the copy to write_child. This is actually what
target.c:default_xfer_partial itself does, when calling into the
ops->deprecated_xfer_memory hook.

Tested by cross-building djgpp gdb, on x86-64 Fedora 17.

Pedro Alves e40adcc9f8 Fix go32-nat.c build fallout from to_detach constification.
The recent constification of to_detach missed updating the forward
declaration of go32_detach, breaking the build:

../../src/gdb/go32-nat.c:387:1: error: conflicting types for 'go32_detach'
../../src/gdb/go32-nat.c:240:13: note: previous declaration of 'go32_detach' was here

go32_detach is actually defined before it's ever used, making the
forward declaration is unnecessary. So we can just remove it instead
of updating it. While at it, remove all others in the same situation.
Tested by building a djgpp gdb.

Tom Tromey 0e9f083f4c remove gdb_string.h
This removes gdb_string.h. This patch is purely mechanical. I
created it by running the two commands:

    git rm common/gdb_string.h
    perl -pi -e's/"gdb_string.h"/<string.h>/;' *.[chyl] */*.[chyl]

Tom Tromey 52554a0e32 constify to_detach
This patch constifies the target_ops method to_detach.

This is a small cleanup, but also, I think, a bug-prevention fix,
since gdb already acts as if the "args" argument here was const.

In particular, top.c:quit_force calls kill_or_detach via
iterate_over_inferiors. kill_or_detach calls target_detach, passing
the same argument each time. So, if one of these methods was not
const-correct, then kill_or_detach would change its behavior in a
strange way.

I could not build every target I modified in this patch. I've
inspected them all by hand, though. Many targets do not use the
"args" parameter; a couple pass it to atoi; and a few pass it on to
the to_detach method of the target beneath. The only code that
required a real change was in linux-nat.c, and that only needed the
introduction of a temporary variable for const-correctness.

Pedro Alves e655c1a2f5 Reimplement DJGPP's .gdbinit -> gdb.ini renaming.
This simplifies the .gdbinit filename selection logic.

We have a GDBINIT_FILENAME define that supposedly configurations would
override, but none do so. Instead, the only configuration that wants
a different file name instead of ".gdbinit", djgpp, does a strcpy over
the gdbinit global array. This means the array needs to be sized, and
the code that does that is doing the usual
'PATH_MAX/FILENAME_MAX/fallback constant/etc.' mess.

Instead of all that, it's much simpler to have configure specificy the
.gdbinit filename. As bonus, we can then make the "gdbinit" global
array const.

Mike Frysinger 4d157a3dbe gdb: clean up x86 cpuid implementations
We've currently got 3 files doing open coded implementations of cpuid.
Each has its own set of workarounds and varying levels of how well
they're written and are generally hardcoded to specific cpuid functions.
If you try to build the latest gdb as a PIE on an i386 system, the build
will fail because one of them lacks PIC workarounds (wrt ebx).

Specifically, we have:
common/linux-btrace.c:
two copies of cpuid asm w/specific args, one has no workarounds
while the other implicitly does to avoid memcpy
go32-nat.c:
two copies of cpuid asm w/specific args, one has workarounds to
	avoid memcpy
gdb/testsuite/gdb.arch/i386-cpuid.h:
one general cpuid asm w/many workarounds copied from older gcc

Fortunately, that last header there is pretty damn good -- it handles
lots of edge cases, the code is nice & tight (uses gcc asm operands
rather than manual movs), and is already almost a general library type
header. It's also the basis of what is now the public cpuid.h that is
shipped with gcc-4.3+.

So what I've done is pull that test header out and into gdb/common/
(not sure if there's a better place), synced to the version found in
gcc-4.8.0, put a wrapper API around it, and then cut over all the
existing call points to this new header.

Since the func already has support for "is cpuid supported on this proc",
it makes it trivial to push the i386/x86_64 ifdefs down into this wrapper
API too. Now it can be safely used for all targets and gcc will elide
the unused code for us.

I've verified the gdb.arch testsuite still passes, and this code compiles
for an armv7a host as well as x86_64. The go32-nat code has been left
ifdef-ed out until someone can test & verify the new stuff works (and if
it doesn't, figure out how to make the new code work).
