1270fac69d Fix startup on MS-Windows when 'gdb.ini' is found in $HOME
* windows-nat.c (_initialize_check_for_gdb_ini): Fix off-by-one
	error in allocation of space for "$HOME/.gdbinit" string.  This
	caused GDB to abort on startup whenever a '~/gdb.ini' file was
	actually found, because xsnprintf would hit an assertion
	violation.

aec47d1d54 [win32] cannot automatically find executable file [...] warning at GDB startup
The following change...

... causes a small regression in GDB, where we get the following
warning at startup:

The warning comes from _initialize_loadable which tries to dynamically
load some symbols from kernel32.dll and psapi.dll, and in particular:

The problem is that the new GPA macro assumes that the name of
the variable we use to point to the function, and the name of
its associated symbol are the same. This is mostly the case,
except for GetModuleFileNameEx, where the name is provided by
the GetModuleFileNameEx_name macro (defined differently depending
on whether we are on cygwin or not). As a result, the dynamic
resolution for GetModuleFileNameEx returns NULL, and we trip
the following check which leads to the warning:

This patch fixes the problem by calling GetProcAddress directly,
rather than through the GPA macro, but in a way which hopefully
avoids the C++ compilation warning that the previous patch was
trying to get rid of.

Looking at the code, I can't figure out why we treat first chance
exceptions any different here.

AFAICS, we set last_sig to 1, and then call windows_resume passing
signal==1, so the DBG_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED code path in win32_resume
is taken:

c72f45d16c gdb/Windows: use windows_wait/windows_resume directly in initial startup
Explation below based on what Joel wrote at:

The merge async/sync code paths patch broke attaching on Windows.

This is what we observe, after attaching to any process.  At first, it
seems like everything worked fine, since the process stops, and we get
the prompt back:

However, enter any commands at all, and GDB appears to be hanging.
For instance:

    (gdb) set lang ada
    [nothing happens]

Despite appearances, GDB is not reading from the prompt.  It is
blocked waiting for an event from the inferior.  And since our
inferior is stopped, there aren't going to be any events to read.

In chronological order, what happens is that windows_attach calls
do_initial_windows_stuff, which performs the inferior creation,
and repeatedly waits until we get the first SIGTRAP:

The call to wait_for_inferior triggers a call to do_target_wait to get
the event, followed by handle_inferior_event to process it.  However,
because the first couple of events are "spurious" events, GDB resumes
the execution, and prepares the inferior to wait again:

      prepare_to_wait (ecs);

And prepare_to_wait just does...

  ecs->wait_some_more = 1;
  if (!target_is_async_p ())
    mark_infrun_async_event_handler ();

... which as a result sets the infrun_async_event_handler "ready"
flag to 1.

We get a couple of spurious events before we get the initial SIGTRAP,
at which point we exit the "while (1)" loop above, after which we
reach the end of the attach_command, followed by the normal
end-of-command processing (normal_stop, bp handling, printing the GDB
prompt), back finally to the root of the event loop.

Notice that, at this point, nothing has unset the "ready" flag for the
infrun_async_event_handler.  So, when another cycle of
gdb_do_one_event from the event loop, we eventually call
check_async_event_handlers, which finds that the infrun async event
handler is "ready", and therefore calls it's associated "proc"
callback, which does...

      inferior_event_handler (INF_REG_EVENT, NULL);

... triggering a blocking call to target_wait, thus hanging forever.

The fix is to use windows_wait and windows_resume directly, similarly
to gdbserver.  This will also allow getting rid of 'stop_after_trap'.

8d7493201c Replace some xmalloc-family functions with XNEW-family ones
This patch is part of the make-gdb-buildable-in-C++ effort.  The idea is
to change some calls to the xmalloc family of functions to calls to the
equivalents in the XNEW family.  This avoids adding an explicit cast, so
it keeps the code a bit more readable.  Some of them also map relatively
well to a C++ equivalent (XNEW (struct foo) -> new foo), so it will be
possible to do scripted replacements if needed.

I only changed calls that were obviously allocating memory for one or
multiple "objects".  Allocation of variable sizes (such as strings or
buffer handling) will be for later (and won't use XNEW).

Some instances of xmalloc followed by memset to zero the buffer were
replaced by XCNEW or XCNEWVEC.

I regtested on x86-64, Ubuntu 14.04, but the patch touches many
architecture-specific files.  For those I'll have to rely on the
buildbot or people complaining that I broke their gdb.

That is, we get "[$thread] #1 stopped" instead of SIGINT.

The issue is that we don't currently distinguish send
"interrupt/ctrl-c" to target terminal vs "stop/pause" thread well;
both cases go through "target_stop".

And then, the native Linux backend (linux-nat.c) implements
target_stop with SIGSTOP in non-stop mode, and SIGINT in all-stop
mode.  Since "maint set target-non-stop on" forces the backend to be
always running in non-stop mode, even though the user-visible behavior
is "set non-stop" is "off", "interrupt" causes a SIGSTOP instead of
the SIGINT the test expects.

Fix this by introducing a target_interrupt method to use in the
"interrupt/ctrl-c" case, so "set non-stop off" can always work the
same irrespective of "maint set target-non-stop on/off".  I'm
explictly considering changing the "set non-stop on" behavior as out
of scope here.

Most of the patch is an across-the-board rename of to_stop hook
implementations to to_interrupt.  The only targets where something
more than a rename is being done are linux-nat.c and remote.c, which
are the only targets that support async, and thus are the only ones
the core side calls target_stop on.

Replace __COPY_CONTEXT_SIZE conditional with __CYGWIN__

__COPY_CONTEXT_SIZE was added to Cygwin's headers in 2006.

Versions of Cygwin which don't define __COPY_CONTEXT_SIZE are long obsolete.

Note that __COPY_CONTEXT_SIZE should just be sizeof(CONTEXT) (which is a
platform constant), but isn't due to historical mistakes in Cygwin headers.

b30a0bc387 Make the "info dll" command available on all platform.
The "info dll", an alias of the "info sharedlibrary" command, is
currently only defined in windows native versions. This patch makes
it universally available by moving the alias declaration to solib.c,
and adjusts the documentation accordingly.

Making it universally available has two benefits:
  - Windows users moving to a Unix platforms are still able to use
    the same command for getting the list of shared libraries;
  - Unix to Windows cross debuggers now provide that command also.

This error occurs because when handle_output_debug_string processes a Cygwin
signal message, it re-writes current_event.dwThreadId to reflect the thread that
the signal will be delivered to, which can be different to the thread reporting
the signal.

Altering current_event.dwThreadId() will cause ContinueDebugEvent() to be
applied to the wrong thread and fail.

So, rather than re-writing the thread id in current_event, use the thread
id by returning it.

With this patch applied this test now yields the expected result:

handle_output_debug_string processes a Cygwin signal message, it re-writes

Subsequently, the call to ContinueDebugEvent will fail, because we're trying to
resume the wrong thread.  GDB is then stuck waiting forever for another event
that will never come.

This patch doesn't fix the problem, it just adds appropriate error handling.

Using error() seems appropriate here, if ContinueDebugEvent() fails, the
inferior is in an unknown state and we will probably not be debugging it
anymore.

With this patch applied, resuming the execution of the program now yields:

64ce06e4cd Remove 'step' parameters from 'proceed' and 'resume'
The "step" parameters of 'proceed' and 'resume' aren't really useful
as indication of whether run control wants to single-step the target,
as that information must already be retrievable from
currently_stepping.  In fact, if currently_stepping disagrees with
whether we single-stepped the target, then things break.  Thus instead
of having the same information in two places, this patch removes those
parameters.

Setting 'step_start_function' is the only user of proceed's 'step'
argument, other than passing the 'step' argument down to 'resume' and
debug log output.  Move that instead to set_step_frame, where we
already set other related fields.

clear_proceed_status keeps its "step" parameter for now because it
needs to know which set of threads should have their state cleared,
and is called before the "stepping_command" flag is set.

Tested on x86_64 Fedora 20, native and gdbserver.

with a little de-cruftification.

The value of the segment registers isn't terribly useful on amd64, but
at least this makes the output of 'info registers' correct.

1a667e98b7 Remove "dll-symbols", "add-shared-symbol-files" and assf" commands.
This patch removes a set of commands that have been deprecated for
a while, and which we agreed to remove after the GDB 7.8 release.

gdb/ChangeLog:

5842f62aad Make common code handle target_terminal_* idempotency
I found a place that should be giving back the terminal to the target,
but only if the target was already owning it.  So I need to add a
getter for who owns the terminal.

The trouble is that several places/target have their own globals to
track this state:

 - inflow.c:terminal_is_ours
 - remote.c:remote_async_terminal_ours_p
 - linux-nat.c:async_terminal_is_ours
 - go32-nat.c:terminal_is_ours

While one might think of adding a new target_ops method to query this,
conceptually, this state isn't really part of a particular target_ops.
Considering multi-target, the core shouldn't have to ask all targets
to know whether it's GDB that owns the terminal.  There's only one GDB
(or rather, only one top level interpreter).

So what this comment does is add a new global that is tracked by the
core instead.  A subsequent pass may later remove the other globals.

Tested on x86_64 Fedora 20, native and gdbserver.

df7e526582 Rename 32- and 64-bit Intel files from "i386" to "x86"
This commit renames nine files that contain code used by both 32- and
64-bit Intel ports such that their names are prefixed with "x86"
rather than "i386".  All types, functions and variables within these
files are likewise renamed such that their names are prefixed with
"x86" rather than "i386".  This makes GDB follow the convention used
by gdbserver such that 32-bit Intel code lives in files called
"i386-*", 64-bit Intel code lives in files called "amd64-*", and code
for both 32- and 64-bit Intel lives in files called "x86-*".

This commit only renames OS-independent files.  The Linux ports of
both GDB and gdbserver now follow the i386/amd64/x86 convention fully.
Some ports still use the old convention where "i386" in file/function/
type/variable names can mean "32-bit only" or "32- and 64-bit" but I
don't want to touch ports I can't fully test except where absolutely
necessary.

e75fdfcad1 clean up some target delegation cases
This patch cleans up some minor inconsistencies in target delegation.
It's primary purpose is to avoid confusion in the code.  A few spots
were checking the "beneath" target; however this can only be NULL for
the dummy target, so such tests are not needed.  Some other spots were
iterating over the beneath targets, looking for a method
implementation.  This is not needed for methods handled by
make-target-delegates, as there is always an implementation.

c0939df1ce constify to_attach
This constifies the "args" argument to the target_ops to_attach
method.

I updated all instances of the method.  I could not compile all of
them but I hand-inspected them.  In all cases either the argument is
ignored, or it is passed to parse_pid_to_attach.  (linux-nat does some
extra stuff, but that one I built...)

If you want to try it on your host of choice, please do so.

The code in parse_pid_to_attach seems a little bogus to me.  If there
is a platform with a broken strtoul, we have better methods for fixing
the issue now.  However, I left the code as is since it is clearly ok
to do so.

Built and regtested on x86-64 Fedora 20.

c1ee2fb3cb Native targets: Add inf-child.c:inf_child_mourn_inferior and use it.
Most ports do the same thing in the tail of their mourn routine - call
generic_mourn_inferior+inf_child_maybe_unpush_target.

This factors that out to a convenience function.  More could be done,
but this converts only the really obvious ones.

Tested by building GDB on x86_64 Fedora 20, mingw32 and djgpp.  The
rest is untested, but I think a patch can't get more obvious.

6a3cb8e88a Allow making GDB not automatically connect to the native target.
Sometimes it's useful to be able to disable the automatic connection
to the native target.  E.g., sometimes GDB disconnects from the
extended-remote target I was debugging, without me noticing it, and
then I do "run".  That starts the program locally, and only after a
little head scratch session do I figure out the program is running
locally instead of remotely as intended.  Same thing with "attach",
"info os", etc.

With the patch, we now can have this instead:

 (gdb) set auto-connect-native-target off
 (gdb) target extended-remote :9999
 ...
 *gdb disconnects*
 (gdb) run
 Don't know how to run.  Try "help target".

To still be able to connect to the native target with
auto-connect-native-target set to off, I've made "target native" work
instead of erroring out as today.

Before:

 (gdb) target native
 Use the "run" command to start a native process.

After:

 (gdb) target native
 Done.  Use the "run" command to start a process.
 (gdb) maint print target-stack
 The current target stack is:
   - native (Native process)
   - exec (Local exec file)
   - None (None)
 (gdb) run
 Starting program: ./a.out
 ...

I've also wanted this for the testsuite, when running against the
native-extended-gdbserver.exp board (runs against gdbserver in
extended-remote mode).  With a non-native-target board, it's always a
bug to launch a program with the native target.  Turns out we still
have one such case this patch catches:

 (gdb) break main
 Breakpoint 1 at 0x4009e5: file ../../../src/gdb/testsuite/gdb.base/coremaker.c, line 138.
 (gdb) run
 Don't know how to run.  Try "help target".
 (gdb) FAIL: gdb.base/corefile.exp: run: with core

On the patch itself, probably the least obvious bit is the need to go
through all targets, and move the unpush_target call to after the
generic_mourn_inferior call instead of before.  This is what
inf-ptrace.c does too, ever since multi-process support was added.
The reason inf-ptrace.c does things in that order is that in the
current multi-process/single-target model, we shouldn't unpush the
target if there are still other live inferiors being debugged.  The
check for that is "have_inferiors ()" (a misnomer nowadays...), which
does:

   for (inf = inferior_list; inf; inf = inf->next)
     if (inf->pid != 0)
       return 1;

It's generic_mourn_inferior that ends up clearing inf->pid, so we need
to call it before the have_inferiors check.  To make all native
targets behave the same WRT to explicit "target native", I've added an
inf_child_maybe_unpush_target function that targets call instead of
calling unpush_target directly, and as that includes the
have_inferiors check, I needed to adjust the targets.

Tested on x86_64 Fedora 20, native, and also with the
extended-gdbserver board.

Confirmed a cross build of djgpp gdb still builds.

Smoke tested a cross build of Windows gdb under Wine.

Untested otherwise.

17617f2d36 PR gdb/14018 -- avoid "PC register not available" errors.
gdb/windows-nat.c (thread_rec): Don't display a warning when
SuspendThread fails with ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED.  If SuspendThread
fails for any reason, set th->suspended to -1, so that we don't
try to resume such a thread.  Also, don't return NULL in these
cases, to avoid completely ruin the session due to "PC register is
not available" error.
(do_windows_fetch_inferior_registers): Check errors in
GetThreadContext call.
(windows_continue): Accept an additional argument KILLED; if not
zero, ignore errors in the SetThreadContext call, since the
inferior was killed and is shutting down.

d6b6434614 Rename native-only terminal related functions.
Looking at target_terminal_inferior etc. in async mode, I realized
that the naming of the terminal_inferior, terminal_ours,
etc. functions doesn't really give a clue that they're meant for the
native target only.  This patch renames them.  There's already
child_terminal_info using the child_ prefix, and, they're most
prominently installed by inf-child.c, so I went with the child_
prefix.  I dropped "inferior" from a couple to make the name match the
corresponding target method.

Tested on x86_64 Fedora 17, and cross built for mingw.  I didn't test
gnu-nat.c, but I think the change is as obvious as it gets.  I grepped
the tree looking for other potential spots that would need adjustment
but this is all I found.  If something breaks, it should be trivial to
fix.

51a9c8c5f8 Make the windows-nat.c target inherit inf-child.c.
So that all native targets inherit a single "superclass".

Target methods that are set to or do the same as inf-child.c's are
removed.

Tested by cross building on Fedora 17, and then confirming that

under Wine still works.

Also, Joel tested this with Adacore's internal testsuite.

47f7ffdb18 Simplify windows-nat.c::get_module_name
Now that get_module_name is no longer called for handling DLL events,
we can simplify it a bit, knowing that the only use is to get the
executable's filename.

While doing so, we adjusted the implementation a bit to avoid
references to DLLs, renamed it to make its more-targeted usage
more explicit, moved it right before the only function that uses it.
We also remove the use of hard-coded length for the buffers being
used.

1cd9feab11 Windows: Rely purely on event info when handling DLL load event
When a DLL gets loaded an the debugger gets a debug event about it,
the currently implementation in handle_load_dll currently tries to
fetch the DLL's name by first iterating over all DLLs known to
the system.  It should be sufficient to rely on the name provided
with the event, however, especially in the situation we are now,
where we now know that we're past the statup phase for our inferior.

This patch therefore simplifies windows-nat.c::handle_load_dll to
only rely on the event's lpImageName.

It also updates the function's comment to document the assumption
regarding not being during the inferior's startup phase. And while
at it, it fixes the function documentation, which was probably
unintentionally inherited from another function (perhaps windows_wait).

	introductory comment.  Remove code using get_module_name

ea39ad355e Ignore DLL load/unload events during inferior initialization.
This patch aims at simplifying DLL handling during the inferior
initialization (process creation during the "run", or during an
"attach"). Instead of processing each DLL load event, which is
sometimes incomplete, we ignore these events until the inferior
has completed its startup phase, and then just iterate over all

9506028490 Deprecate windows-specific dll-symbols command and aliases
The "dll-symbols" command, specific to native Windows platforms,
gives the impression that the symbols were not loaded, first
because it completes silently, and second because the "info shared"
output does not get updated after the command completes:

    (gdb) dll-symbols C:\WINDOWS\syswow64\rpcrt4.dll
    (gdb) info shared

(we exected the "Syms Read" column to read "Yes").

As far as I can tell, the symbols actually do get loaded, but completely
independently from the solib framework, which explains the silent
loading and the fact that the "Syms Read" column does not get updated.
See windows-nat.c::safe_symbol_file_add_stub, which calls symbol_file_add
instead of calling solib_add.

But, aside from the fact that the "Syms Read" status does not get
updated, I also noticed that it does not take into account the DLL's
actual load address when loading its symbols. As a result, I believe
that we get it wrong if the DLL does not get loaded at the prefered
address.

Rather than trying to fix this command, there does not seem to be
a reason other than historical for having Windows-specific commands
which essentially re-implements the "sharedlibrary" command. The
command interface is slightly different (the latter takes a regexp
rather than a plain filename), but it should be just as easy to use
the "sharedlibrary" command, or its "share" alias, as usisng the
"dll-symbols" command. For instance:

This patch therefore deprecates the "dll-symbols" command, as well
as its two aliases "add-shared-symbol-files" and "assf", with a view
of deleting them as soon as the 7.8 branch gets cut.

This patch does the conversion of to_xfer_partial from

    LONGEST (*to_xfer_partial) (struct target_ops *ops,
				enum target_object object, const char *annex,

				ULONGEST offset, ULONGEST len);

to

    enum target_xfer_status (*to_xfer_partial) (struct target_ops *ops,
				enum target_object object, const char *annex,
				gdb_byte *readbuf, const gdb_byte *writebuf,
				ULONGEST offset, ULONGEST len, ULONGEST *xfered_len);

It changes to_xfer_partial return the transfer status and the transfered
length by *XFERED_LEN.  Generally, the return status has three stats,

 - TARGET_XFER_OK,
 - TARGET_XFER_EOF,
 - TARGET_XFER_E_XXXX,

See the comments to them in 'enum target_xfer_status'.  Note that
Pedro suggested not name TARGET_XFER_DONE, as it is confusing,
compared with "TARGET_XFER_OK".  We finally name it TARGET_XFER_EOF.

With this change, GDB core can handle unavailable data in a convenient
way.

Consider an object/value like this:

  0          100      150        200           512
  DDDDDDDDDDDxxxxxxxxxDDDDDD...DDIIIIIIIIIIII..III

where D is valid data, and xxx is unavailable data, and I is beyond
the end of the object (Invalid).  Currently, if we start the
xfer at 0, requesting, say 512 bytes, we'll first get back 100 bytes.
The xfer machinery then retries fetching [100,512), and gets back
TARGET_XFER_E_UNAVAILABLE.  That's sufficient when you're either
interested in either having the whole of the 512 bytes available,
or erroring out.  But, in this scenario, we're interested in
the data at [150,512).  The problem is that the last
TARGET_XFER_E_UNAVAILABLE gives us no indication where to
start the read next.  We'd need something like:

This naturally implies pushing down the decision of whether
to return TARGET_XFER_E_UNAVAILABLE or something else
down to the target.  (Which kinds of leads back to tfile
itself reading from RO memory from file (though we could
export a function in exec.c for that that tfile delegates to,
instead of re-adding the old code).

Beside this change, we also add a macro TARGET_XFER_STATUS_ERROR_P to
check whether a status is an error or not, to stop using "status < 0".
This patch also eliminates the comparison between status and 0.

No target implementations to to_xfer_partial adapts this new
interface.  The interface still behaves as before.

e261678878 Remove duplicated #include's from GDB
This patch simply removes duplicated #include statements in the gdb/
directory.  If there are two duplicated #include statements, this patch
keeps the first #include and removes the second.

Those duplicates have been found by using the checkincludes.pl tool from
the Linux kernel and double checked manually once again if the #include
statements are affected by #ifdef macros.

94481b8c8f nameless LOAD_DLL_DEBUG_EVENT causes ntdll.dll to be missing
We observed on Windows 2012 that we were unable to unwind past
exception handlers. For instance, with any Ada program raising
an exception that does not get handled:

the frame selected by the debugger corresponds to a runtime function
rather than the function in the user code that caused the exception
to be raised (in our case procedure A).

It turns out that the unwinder has been doing its job flawlessly
up until frame #5. The address in frame #5 is correct, but GDB
is not able to associate it with any symbol or unwind record.

And this is because this address is inside ntdll.dll, and when
we received the LOAD_DLL_DEBUG_EVENT for that DLL, the system
was not able to tell us the name of the library, thus causing us
to silently ignoring the event. Because GDB does not know about
ntdll.dll, it is unable to access the unwind information from it.
And because the function at that address does not use a frame
pointer, the unwinding becomes impossible.

This patch helps recovering ntdll.dll at the end of the "run/attach"
phase, simply by trying to locate that specific DLL again.

In terms of our medium to long term planning, it seems to me that
we should be able to simplify the code by ignoring LOAD_DLL_DEBUG_EVENT
during the startup phase, and modify windows_ensure_ntdll_loaded
to then detect and report all shared libraries after we've finished
inferior creation.  But for a change just before 7.7 branch creation,
I thought it was safest to just handle ntdll.dll specifically. This
is less intrusive, and ntdll is the only DLL affected by the problem
I know so far.

52554a0e32 constify to_detach
This patch constifies the target_ops method to_detach.

This is a small cleanup, but also, I think, a bug-prevention fix,
since gdb already acts as if the "args" argument here was const.

In particular, top.c:quit_force calls kill_or_detach via
iterate_over_inferiors.  kill_or_detach calls target_detach, passing
the same argument each time.  So, if one of these methods was not
const-correct, then kill_or_detach would change its behavior in a
strange way.

I could not build every target I modified in this patch.  I've
inspected them all by hand, though.  Many targets do not use the
"args" parameter; a couple pass it to atoi; and a few pass it on to
the to_detach method of the target beneath.  The only code that
required a real change was in linux-nat.c, and that only needed the
introduction of a temporary variable for const-correctness.

d8d2a3ee47 Normalize on PATH_MAX instead of MAXPATHLEN throughout.
With the pathmax gnulib module in place, we can use PATH_MAX
consistently throughout, instead of the current mixbag of PATH_MAX and
MAXPATHLEN uses.  It's no longer necessary to include sys/param.h
(supposedly, I can't check all ports touched here) for MAXPATHLEN.

Don't remove sys/param.h from GDB's configure.ac, as later tests in
the file use HAVE_SYS_PARAM_H checks.

Tested on x86_64 Fedora 17.

Also cross-built for --host=i686-w64-mingw32, and --host=i586-pc-msdosdjgpp.

2ed3e00940 [windows] Fix accidental change of %u -> %d in SuspendThread warning.
While enhancing the warning printed in when SuspendThread fails,
I accidently changed the format used to print the error code
from %u to %d. This patch reverts it back.

0c3d84be3e windows: Prefix thread ID values with "0x" in debug traces
The windows-nat.c debug traces print the thread ID in base 16,
but give no indication of it. So, in a trace like the following...

    gdb: kernel event for pid=4816 tid=720 code=CREATE_THREAD_DEBUG_EVENT)

... where tid is "720", it's easy to be confused and think that
the thread ID is 720 rather than 0x720.  This patch avoids the
confusion by adding the usual "0x" prefix used for hexadecimal
values.

80e88e1aa2 windows: Add thread ID in SuspendThread error warning message.
This patch adds the thread ID to a warning printed when a call to

A natural fix would be to make xxx_get_debug_reg_state take an
inferior argument, but that doesn't work because of the case where we
detach breakpoints/watchpoints from the child fork, at a time there's
no inferior for the child fork at all.  We do a nasty hack in
i386_inferior_data_get, but that relies on all callers pointing the
current inferior to the correct inferior, which isn't actually being
done by all callers, and I don't think we want to enforce that -- deep
in the bowls of linux-nat.c, there are many cases we resume lwps
behind the scenes, and it's be better to not have that code rely on
global state (as it doesn't today).

The fix is to decouple the watchpoints code from inferiors, making it
track target processes instead.  This way, we can freely keep track of
the watchpoint mirrors for these processes behind the core's back.
Checkpoints also play dirty tricks with swapping the process behind
the inferior, so they get special treatment too in the patch (which
just amounts to calling a new hook).  Instead of the old hack in
i386_inferior_data_get, where we returned a copy of the current
inferior's debug registers mirror, as soon as we detect a fork in the
target, we copy the debug register mirror from the parent to the child
process.

I don't have an old kernel handy to test, but I stepped through gdb doing
the watchpoint removal in the fork child in the watchpoint-fork test
seeing that the debug registers end up cleared in the child.

I didn't find the need for linux_nat_iterate_watchpoint_lwps.  If
we use plain iterate_over_lwps instead, what happens is that
when removing watchpoints, that iterate_over_lwps doesn't actually
iterate over anything, since the fork child is not added to the
lwp list until later, at detach time, in linux_child_follow_fork.
And if we don't iterate over that lwp, we don't mark its debug
registers as needing update.  But linux_child_follow_fork takes
care of doing that explicitly:

so unless I'm missing something (quite possible) it ends up all
the same.  But, the !detach-on-fork, and the "follow-fork child" paths
should also call linux_nat_new_thread, and they don't presently.  It
seems to me in those cases we're not clearing debug regs correctly
when that's needed.  Instead of copying that bit that works around
add_lwp bypassing the linux_nat_new_thread call, I thought it'd
be better to add an add_initial_lwp call to be used in the case we
really need to bypass linux_nat_new_thread, and make
add_lwp always call linux_nat_new_thread.

i386_cleanup_dregs is rewritten to forget about the current process
debug mirrors, which takes cares of other i386 ports.  Only a couple
of extra tweaks here and there were needed, as some targets wheren't
actually calling i386_cleanup_dregs.

Tested on Fedora 17 x86_64 -m64/-m32.

GDBserver already fetches the i386_debug_reg_state from the right
process, and, it doesn't handle forks at all, so no fix is needed over
there.

8f205f9c40 [Windows] run program with space in path to exe.
The following works...

    % gdb c:\path to exe\foo.exe
    (gdb) start

... unless a file or directory called "c:\path" or "c:\path to" exist.
This is what happens in the latter case:

    (gdb) start
    [...]
    Error creating process C:\path to exe\foo.exe (error 193).

This is because we are calling CreateProcess (et al) without specifying
the lpApplicationName, so Windows determines the name of the executable
using the second argument, which is the entire command line.  This
command line is a space-separated list of tokens, so the space in
the path to the executable which potentially creates an ambiguity.
The ambiguity is automatically resolved unless we're in the situation
above.

The solution, as suggested by the MSDN documentation for CreateProcess
is to quote the executable name.

d40dc7a8d8 Segment register reading on Windows targets.
This patch makes sure that the value of segment registers are
read properly as 16bit values on Windows.

gdb/ChangeLog:

        * windows-nat.h (segment_register_p_ftype): New typedef.
        (windows_set_segment_register_p): Add declaration.
        * windows-nat.c (segment_register_p): New static global.
        (windows_set_segment_register_p): New function.
        (do_windows_fetch_inferior_registers): Add special handling
        for segment registers.
        * amd64-windows-nat.c: #include "amd64-tdep.h".
        (amd64_windows_segment_register_p): New function.
        (_initialize_amd64_windows_nat): Call windows_set_segment_register_p.
        * i386-windows-nat.c: #include "i386-tdep.h".
        (i386_windows_segment_register_p): New function.
        (_initialize_i386_windows_nat): Call windows_set_segment_register_p.
