Jonathan Wakely 47a468bdbe Fix std::variant regression caused by never-valueless optimization
A regression was introduced by the recent changes to provide the strong
exception safety guarantee for "never valueless" types that have O(1),
non-throwing move assignment. The problematic code is:

  else if constexpr (__detail::__variant::_Never_valueless_alt<type>())
    {
      // This construction might throw:
      variant __tmp(in_place_index<_Np>, __il,
                    std::forward<_Args>(__args)...);
      // But _Never_valueless_alt<type> means this won't:
      *this = std::move(__tmp);
    }

When the variant is not assignable, the assignment is ill-formed, so
should not be attempted. When the variant has a copy assignment operator
but not a move assignment operator, the assignment performs a copy
assignment and that could throw, so should not be attempted.

The solution is to only take that branch when the variant has a move
assignment operator, which is determined by the _Traits::_S_move_assign
constant. When that is false the strong exception safety guarantee is
not possible, and so the __never_valueless function should also depend
on _S_move_assign.

While testing the fixes for this I noticed that the partial
specialization _Never_valueless_alt<basic_string<C,T,A>> incorrectly
assumed that is_nothrow_move_constructible<basic_string<C,T,A>> is
always true, but that's wrong for fully-dynamic COW strings. Fix the
partial specialization, and improve the comment describing
_Never_valueless_alt to be clear it depends on move construction as well
as move assignment.

Finally, I also observed that _Variant_storage<false, T...>::_M_valid()
was not taking advantage of the __never_valueless<T...>() function to
avoid a runtime check. Only the _Variant_storage<true, T...>::_M_valid()
function was using __never_valueless. That is also fixed.

	PR libstdc++/87431
	* include/bits/basic_string.h (_Never_valueless_alt): Make partial
	specialization also depend on is_nothrow_move_constructible.
	* include/std/variant (__detail::__variant::__never_valueless()):
	Only true if the variant would have a move assignment operator.
	(__detail::__variant::_Variant_storage<false, T...>::_M_valid()):
	Check __never_valueless<T...>().
	(variant::emplace): Only perform non-throwing move assignments
	for never-valueless alternatives if the variant has a move assignment
	operator.
	* testsuite/20_util/variant/compile.cc: Check that never-valueless
	types can be emplaced into non-assignable variants.
	* testsuite/20_util/variant/run.cc: Check that never-valueless types
	don't get copied when emplaced into non-assignable variants.

Jason Merrill 5a58e967b5 PR c++/90047 - ICE with enable_if alias template.
In order to make alias templates useful for SFINAE we instantiate them under
the prevailing 'complain' argument, so an error encountered while
instantiating during SFINAE context is silent. The problem in this PR comes
when we later look up the erroneous instantiation and don't give an error at
that point. Fixed by not adding an erroneous instantiation to the hash
table, so we instantiate it again when needed and get the error. This
required changes to a number of tests, which previously said "substitution
failed:" with no explanation of what the failure was; now we properly
explain.

Jonathan Wakely 5f00d0d5c2 Fix condition for std::variant to be copy constructible
The standard says the std::variant copy constructor is defined as
deleted unless all alternative types are copy constructible, but we were
making it also depend on move constructible. Fix the condition and
enhance the tests to check the semantics with pathological copy-only
types (i.e. supporting copying but having deleted moves).

The enhanced tests revealed a regression in copy assignment for
non-trivial alternative types, where the assignment would not be
performed because the condition in the _Copy_assign_base visitor is
false: is_same_v<remove_reference_t<T&>, remove_reference_t<const T&>>.

Jonathan Wakely c7dde4a90a Share all recursive_directory_iterator state [LWG 2708]
Implement the proposed resolution of LWG 2708 by moving the _M_options

Jonathan Wakely 10f26de915 PR libstdc++/87431 re-adjust never-valueless optimizations
Avoid creating arbitrarily large objects on the stack when emplacing
trivially copyable objects into a variant. Currently we provide the
strong exception-safety guarantee for all trivially copyable types, by
constructing a second variant and then doing a non-throwing move
assignment from the temporary. This patch restricts that behaviour to
trivially copyable types that are no larger than 256 bytes. For larger
types the object will be emplaced directly into the variant, and if its
initialization throws then the variant becomes valueless.

Also implement Antony Polukhin's suggestion to whitelist specific types
that are not trivially copyable but can be efficiently move-assigned.
Emplacing those types will never cause a variant to become valueless.
The whitelisted types are: std::shared_ptr, std::weak_ptr,
std::unique_ptr, std::function, and std::any. Additionally,
std::basic_string, std::vector, and __gnu_debug::vector are whitelisted
if their allocator traits give them a non-throwing move assignment
operator. Specifically, this means std::string is whitelisted, but
std::pmr::string is not.

As part of this patch, additional if-constexpr branches are added for
the cases where the initialization is known to be non-throwing (so the
overhead of the try-catch block can be avoided) and where a scalar is
being produced by a potentially-throwing conversion operator (so that
the overhead of constructing and move-assigning a variant is avoided).
These changes should have no semantic effect, just better codegen.

Jonathan Wakely 7ac205673c PR libstdc++/85965 delay static assertions until types are complete
The static assertions added for PR libstdc++/48101 were at class scope
and so were evaluated too eagerly, when it might not be possible to
determine whether the function objects are invocable with the key types.
The problematic cases are where the key type is not known to be
convertible to the argument type(s) of the function object until later,
after a type has been completed. Specifically, if the key type is a
pointer to a derived class and the function object's argument type is a
pointer to a base class, then the derived-to-base conversion is only
valid once the derived type is complete.

By moving the static assertions to the destructor they will only be
evaluated when the destructor is instantiated, at which point whether
the key type can be passed to the function object should be knowable.
The ideal place to do the checks would be only when the function objects
are actually invoked, but that would mean adding the checks in numerous
places, so the destructor is used instead.

The tests need to be adjusted because the "required from here" line is
now the location of the destructor, not the point of instantiation in
the test file. For the map and multimap tests which check two
specializations, the dg-error matching the assertion text matches both
cases. Also check the diagnostic output for the template arguments, to
ensure both specializations trigger the assertion.

Jonathan Wakely e2186cd88e In C++17 <math.h> should not put special functions in global namespace
IS 29124 8.2 [sf.mathh] says that <math.h> should add the names of the
special functions to the global namespace. However, C++17 Annex D
[depr.c.headers] excludes those functions explicitly, so they should not
be placed in the global namespace unconditionally for C++17.

Only add them to the global namespace when IS 29124 is explicitly
requested via the __STDCPP_WANT_MATH_SPEC_FUNCS__ macro.

Jonathan Wakely a4395a846a PR libstdc++/89466 avoid slow xsltproc command in configure
Certain broken versions of xsltproc ignore the --nonet option and will
attempt to fetch the docbook stylesheet from the WWW when it isn't in
the local XML catalog.

This patch checks for the local stylesheet directory first, and doesn't
use xsltproc if no local stylesheets are found. Checking for the local
directory is done using xmlcatalog if available, only checking the
hardcoded list of directories if xmlcatalog fails. The right directory
for Suse is added to the hardcoded list.

This should avoid doing an xsltproc check that would need to download
the stylesheet, so no network connection is made even if a broken
xsltproc is present.

	PR libstdc++/89466
	* acinclude.m4 (GLIBCXX_CONFIGURE_DOCBOOK): Reorder check for local
	stylesheet directories before check for xsltproc. Try to use
	xmlcatalog to find local stylesheet directory before trying hardcoded
	paths. Add path used by suse to hardcoded paths. Adjust xsltproc

Jonathan Wakely b7dbc6723a DR 2586 fix value category in uses-allocator checks
Because uses-allocator construction is invariably done with a const
lvalue the __uses_alloc helper should use a const lvalue for the
is_constructible checks. Otherwise, it can detect that the type can be
constructed from an rvalue, and then an error happens when a const
lvalue is passed to the constructor instead.

Prior to LWG DR 2586 scoped_allocator_adaptor incorrectly used an rvalue
type in the is_constructible check and then used a non-const lvalue for
the actual construction. The other components using uses-allocator
construction (tuple and polymorphic_allocator) have always done so with
a const lvalue allocator, although the use of __use_alloc in our
implementation meant they behaved the same as scoped_allocator_adaptor
and incorrectly used rvalues for the is_constructible checks.

In C++20 the P0591R4 changes mean that all uses-allocator construction
is defined in terms of the new uses_allocator_construction_args
functions, which always use a const lvalue allocator.

The changes in this patch ensure that the __use_alloc helper correctly
matches the requirements in the standard, consistently using a const
lvalue allocator for the is_constructible checks and the actual
constructor arguments.

Jonathan Wakely 329c0f891a PR libstdc++/89345 Only define std::destroying_delete for C++2a
Clang defines the __cpp_impl_destroying_delete macro unconditionally, so
that the feature is supported whenever the library type is defined. This
is incompatible with the current definition in libstdc++ because we use
constexpr and inline variables, which will give an error for older -std
modes.

This patch defines the destroying_delete_t type and destroying_delete
variable independently of the __cpp_impl_destroying_delete macro, but
only for C++2a (because the names aren't reserved for previous
standards). The __cpp_lib_destroying_delete macro is only defined when

Jonathan Wakely 258bd1d63a PR libstdc++/89130 restore support for non-MoveConstructible types
The changes to "relocate" std::vector elements can lead to new errors
outside the immediate context, because moving the elements to new
storage no longer makes use of the move-if-noexcept utilities. This
means that types with deleted moves no longer degenerate to copies, but
are just ill-formed. The errors happen while instantiating the
noexcept-specifier for __relocate_object_a, when deciding whether to try
to relocate.

This patch introduces indirections to avoid the ill-formed
instantiations of std::__relocate_object_a. In order to avoid using
if-constexpr prior to C++17 this is done by tag dispatching. After this

Jonathan Wakely aaeac1568d P0357R3 reference_wrapper for incomplete types
This patch implements the C++2a proposal to allow incomplete types in
std::reference_wrapper, which was previously undefined.

The change cannot be implemented for earlier standards, because prior to
C++2a std::reference_wrapper has a weak result type, so must inspect the
template argument to see if it defines a nested result_type member. That
is deprecated (but still required) in C++17, and removed from C++2a.

The removal of the base class from reference_wrapper is a potential ABI
change, as it could alter the layout of a type which derives from
reference_wrapper<T> and from an empty type with _Weak_result_type<T> as
a base class. Previously the repeated _Weak_result_type<T> base class
would have prevented the empty base-class optimization, but if
reference_wrapper<T> no longer derives from it, the empty class could be
placed at the same address as the reference_wrapper<T> base. In
practice, the only types which derive from _Weak_result_type or from
_Reference_wrapper_base_memfun or any of its base classes are non-empty
types defined in libstdc++: std::reference_wrapper, std::function, and
std::_Bind. As they are non-empty types, they are not eligible for EBO
anyway.

The printer test for a valueless std::variant started to fail because

Jonathan Wakely d942bc80e4 PR libstdc++/87855 fix optional for types with non-trivial copy/move
When the contained value is not trivially copy (or move) constructible
the union's copy (or move) constructor will be deleted, and so the
_Optional_payload delegating constructors are invalid. G++ fails to
diagnose this because it incorrectly performs copy elision in the
delegating constructors. Clang does diagnose it (llvm.org/PR40245).

The solution is to avoid performing any copy (or move) when the
contained value's copy (or move) constructor isn't trivial. Instead the
contained value can be constructed by calling _M_construct. This is OK,
because the relevant constructor doesn't need to be constexpr when the
contained value isn't trivially copy (or move) constructible.

Additionally, this patch removes a lot of code duplication in the
_Optional_payload partial specializations and the _Optional_base partial
specialization, by hoisting it into common base classes.

The Python pretty printer for std::optional needs to be adjusted to
support the new layout. Retain support for the old layout, and add a
test to verify that the support still works.

	PR libstdc++/87855
	* include/std/optional (_Optional_payload_base): New class template

Jonathan Wakely de4db54fd9 PR libstdc++/86756 Move rest of std::filesystem to libstdc++.so
Move std::filesystem directory iterators and operations from
libstdc++fs.a to main libstdc++ library. These components have many
dependencies on OS support, which is not available on all targets. Some
additional autoconf checks and conditional compilation is needed to
ensure the files will build for all targets. Previously this code was
not compiled without --enable-libstdcxx-filesystem-ts but the C++17
components should be available for all hosted builds.

The tests for these components no longer need to link to libstdc++fs.a,
but are not expected to pass on all targets. To avoid numerous failures
on targets which are not expected to pass the tests (due to missing OS
functionality) leave the dg-require-filesystem-ts directives in place
for now. This will ensure the tests only run for builds where the
filesystem-ts library is built, which presumably means some level of OS
support is present.

Jonathan Wakely caf80d87b5 PR libstdc++/87431 fix regression introduced by r264574
The previous patch for PR 87431 assumed that initialing a scalar type
could not throw, but it can obtain its value via a conversion operator,
which could throw. This meant the variant could get into a valueless
state, but the valueless_by_exception() member function would always
return false.

This patch fixes it by changing the emplace members to have strong
exception safety when initializing a contained value of trivially
copyable type. The _M_valid() member gets a corresponding change to
always return true for trivially copyable types, not just scalar types.

Strong exception safety (i.e. never becoming valueless) is achieved by
only replacing the current contained value once any potentially throwing
operations have completed. If constructing the new contained value can
throw then a new std::variant object is constructed to hold it, and then
move-assigned to *this (which won't throw).

	PR libstdc++/87431

Jonathan Wakely 73d968d945 Fix bugs in filesystem::path::lexically_normal()
Using path::_List::erase(const_iterator) to remove a non-final component
in path::lexically_normal() is a bug, because it leaves the following
component with an incorrect _M_pos value.

Instead of providing erase members that allow removing components from
the middle, replace them with pop_back() and
_M_erase_from(const_iterator) which only allow removing elements at the
end. Most uses of erase are unaffected, because they only remove
elements from the end anyway. The one use of erasure from the middle in
lexically_normal() is replaced by calls to pop_back() and/or clearing
the last component to leave it as an empty final filename.

Also replace the "???" comment in lexically_normal() to document when
that branch is taken.

Jonathan Wakely b3e2dc1ed9 Add more testcases for class template argument deduction of maps
This adds additional tests for std::map and std::multimap CTAD. The
tests ensure that deduction works for braced-init-list of value_type
objects, and for pairs of input iterators (with both std::pair<Key, T>
and value_type as the iterator's value_type). This ensures deduction
from value_type still works, as well as the non-value_type cases in LWG
3025.

Similar tests for unordered maps do not work, apparently because the
constructor taking an initializer_list<value_type> is not usable for
deduction, and the deduction guide taking initializer_list<pair<Key, T>>
deduces key_type to be const. I am not addressing that.

Jonathan Wakely 4f87bb8d6e PR libstdc++/71044 optimize std::filesystem::path construction
This new implementation has a smaller footprint than the previous
implementation, due to replacing std::vector<_Cmpt> with a custom pimpl
type that only needs a single pointer. The _M_type enumeration is also
combined with the pimpl type, by using a tagged pointer, reducing
sizeof(path) further still.

Construction and modification of paths is now done more efficiently, by
splitting the input into a stack-based buffer of string_view objects
instead of a dynamically-allocated vector containing strings. Once the
final size is known only a single allocation is needed to reserve space
for it. The append and concat operations no longer require constructing
temporary path objects, nor re-parsing the entire native pathname.

This results in algorithmic improvements to path construction, and
working with large paths is much faster.

	PR libstdc++/71044

Jonathan Wakely 8c9b385288 PR libstdc++/88119 use alignof in std::alignment_of, not __alignof__
Now that __alignof__ and alignof sometimes disagree it matters which one
we use. The standard says that std::alignment_of<T>::value equals
alignof(T), so we need to use that.

Change the only uses of alignment_of to use __alignof__ to avoid a
change in alignment.

Jonathan Wakely 11aa881f98 PR libstdc++/87308 adjust regex used in std::any pretty printer
The pretty printer for std::any fails when the contained value is a
locally-defined type, because the name in the debuginfo has
cv-qualifiers and ptr-declarators in different positions. The unexpected
format confuses the printer. This makes the printer's regex handle
either format.

This isn't a complete fix because looking up the contained type fails
when there are two types with the same name (defined in different local
scopes). This applies to all closure types defined in a given function,
as they all appear as "func()::lambda" in the debuginfo names.

Jonathan Wakely f2e005857e Improve handling of pool_options::largest_required_pool_block
Make the munge_options function round the largest_required_pool_block
value to a multiple of the smallest pool size (currently 8 bytes) to
avoid pools with odd sizes.

Ensure there is a pool large enough for blocks of the requested size.
Previously when largest_required_pool_block was exactly equal to one of
the pool_sizes[] values there would be no pool of that size. This patch
increases _M_npools by one, so there is a pool at least as large as the
requested value. It also reduces the size of the largest pool to be no
larger than needed.

	* src/c++17/memory_resource.cc (munge_options): Round up value of
