Florian Weimer da347f4aa3 io: Remove copy_file_range emulation [BZ #24744]
The kernel is evolving this interface (e.g., removal of the
restriction on cross-device copies), and keeping up with that
is difficult. Applications which need the function should
run kernels which support the system call instead of relying on
the imperfect glibc emulation.

Adhemerval Zanella 06ab719d30 Fix Linux fcntl OFD locks for non-LFS architectures (BZ#20251)
This patch fixes the OFD ("file private") locks for architectures that
support non-LFS flock definition (__USE_FILE_OFFSET64 not defined). The
issue in this case is both F_OFD_{GETLK,SETLK,SETLKW} and
F_{SET,GET}L{W}K64 expects a flock64 argument and when using old
F_OFD_* flags with a non LFS flock argument the kernel might interpret
the underlying data wrongly. Kernel idea originally was to avoid using
such flags in non-LFS syscall, but since GLIBC uses fcntl with LFS
semantic as default it is possible to provide the functionality and
avoid the bogus struct kernel passing by adjusting the struct manually
for the required flags.

The idea follows other LFS interfaces that provide two symbols:

  1. A new LFS fcntl64 is added on default ABI with the usual macros to
     select it for FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64.

  2. The Linux non-LFS fcntl use a stack allocated struct flock64 for
F_OFD_{GETLK,SETLK,SETLKW} copy the results on the user provided
     struct.

  3. Keep a compat symbol with old broken semantic for architectures
     that do not define __OFF_T_MATCHES_OFF64_T.

So for architectures which defines __USE_FILE_OFFSET64, fcntl64 will
aliased to fcntl and no adjustment would be required. So to actually
use F_OFD_* with LFS support the source must be built with LFS support
(_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64).

Also F_OFD_SETLKW command is handled a cancellation point, as for
F_SETLKW{64}.

Checked on x86_64-linux-gnu and i686-linux-gnu.

Dmitry V. Levin 52a713fdd0 linux: make getcwd(3) fail if it cannot obtain an absolute path [BZ #22679]
Currently getcwd(3) can succeed without returning an absolute path
because the underlying getcwd syscall, starting with linux commit
v2.6.36-rc1~96^2~2, may succeed without returning an absolute path.

This is a conformance issue because "The getcwd() function shall
place an absolute pathname of the current working directory
in the array pointed to by buf, and return buf".

This is also a security issue because a non-absolute path returned
by getcwd(3) causes a buffer underflow in realpath(3).

Fix this by checking the path returned by getcwd syscall and falling
back to generic_getcwd if the path is not absolute, effectively making
getcwd(3) fail with ENOENT. The error code is chosen for consistency
with the case when the current directory is unlinked.

[BZ #22679]

Joseph Myers 95511aab9d Fix testing with read-only source directory.
Three tests fail with a read-only source directory because they try to
write into the source directory. None of these write into it in a way
that should actually be problematic for concurrent builds sharing the
same writable source directory, but avoiding any writing into the
source directory (from testing, or from building glibc if the source
timestamps are properly ordered) is still a good idea, as being able
to build with read-only sources helps make sure there isn't anything
that could cause problems for concurrent builds.

This patch changes the tests in question to use either /tmp or the
build directory to write their temporary files (or to test O_TMPFILE,
as applicable).

Tested for x86_64.

	* io/Makefile (tst-open-tmpfile-ARGS): New variable.
	* posix/tst-mmap-offset.c (fname): Use /tmp.
	* stdlib/tst-setcontext3.sh (tempfile): Use ${objpfx}.

Adhemerval Zanella f6a191a6ee Consolidate Linux read syscall
This patch consolidates the read Linux syscall implementation on
sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/read.c. This leads to a different frame
pointer creation on some architectures:

  * It fixes BZ#21428 on aarch64, since now the returned address
for the read syscall can be correctly found out by
    backtrace_symbols.

  * It makes tst-backtrace{5,6} fails on powerpc due an issue on
its custom backtrace implementation. It is fixed on subsequent
    patch from this set.

Checked on i686-linux-gnu, x86_64-linux-gnu, x86_64-linux-gnux32,

Adhemerval Zanella cab6e5af9d Consolidate Linux creat implementation
This patch consolidates the creat Linux syscall implementation on
sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/creat{64}.c. The changes are:

  1. Remove creat{64} from auto-generation syscalls.list.
  2. Add a new creat{64}.c implementation. For architectures that
define __OFF_T_MATCHES_OFF64_T the default creat64 will create
     alias to required creat symbols.
  3. Use __NR_creat where possible, otherwise use internal open{64}
     call with expected flags.

Mark Wielaard 8b7b7f75d9 Add LFS support for fts functions (bug 11460)
fts didn't have large-file support yet and fts.h had an #error preventing
usage when _FILE_OFFSET_BITS was set. This required nasty workarounds for
programs using fts with LFS. This patch implements LFS support for fts by

Also includes a simple testcase for some of the fts functions with or

Joseph Myers f214606a0e Enumerate tests with special rules in tests-special variable.
This patch is a revised and updated version of
<https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2014-01/msg00196.html>.

In order to generate overall summaries of the results of all tests in
the glibc testsuite, we need to identify and concatenate the files
with the results of individual tests.

Tomas Dohnalek's patch used $(common-objpfx)*/*.test-result for this.
However, the normal glibc approach is explicit enumeration of the
expected set of files with a given property, rather than all files
matching some pattern like that. Furthermore, we would like to be
able to mark tests as UNRESOLVED if the file with their results is for
some reason missing, and in future we would like to be able to mark
tests as UNSUPPORTED if they are disabled for a particular
configuration (rather than simply having them missing from the list of
tests as at present). Such handling of tests that were not run or did
not record results requires an explicit enumeration of tests.

For the tests following the default makefile rules, $(tests) (and
$(xtests)) provides such an enumeration. Others, however, are added
directly as dependencies of the "tests" and "xtests" makefile
targets. This patch changes the makefiles to put them in variables
tests-special and xtests-special, with appropriate dependencies on the
tests listed there then being added centrally.

Those variables are used in Rules and so need to be set before Rules
is included in a subdirectory makefile, which is often earlier in the
makefile than the dependencies were present before. We previously
discussed the question of where to include Rules; see the question at
<https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2012-11/msg00798.html>, and a
discussion in
<https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2013-01/msg00337.html> of why
Rules is included early rather than late in subdirectory makefiles.

It was necessary to avoid an indirection through the check-abi target
and get the check-abi-* targets for individual libraries into the
tests-special variable. The intl/ test $(objpfx)tst-gettext.out,
previously built only because of dependencies from other tests, was
also added to tests-special for the same reason.

The entries in tests-special are the full makefile targets, complete
with $(objpfx) and .out. If a future change causes tests to be named
consistently with a .out suffix, this can be changed to include just
the path relative to $(objpfx), without .out.

Tested x86_64, including that the same set of files is generated in
the build directory by a build and testsuite run both before and after
the patch (except for changes to the
elf/tst-null-argv.debug.out.<number> file name), and a build with
run-built-tests=no to verify there aren't any more obvious instances
of the issue Marcus Shawcroft reported with a previous version in
<https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2014-01/msg00462.html>.

Joseph Myers a5f891ac8d Consistently include Makeconfig after defining subdir.
In <https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2014-01/msg00196.html> I
noted it was necessary to add includes of Makeconfig early in various
subdirectory makefiles for the tests-special variable settings added
by that patch to be conditional on configuration information. No-one
commented on the general question there of whether Makeconfig should
always be included immediately after the definition of subdir.

This patch implements that early inclusion of Makeconfig in each
directory (which is a lot easier than consistent placement of includes
of Rules). Includes are added if needed, or moved up if already
present. Subdirectory "all:" targets are removed, since Makeconfig
provides one.

There is potential for further cleanups I haven't done. Rules and
Makerules have code such as

ifneq "$(findstring env,$(origin headers))" ""
headers :=
endif

to override to empty any value of various variables that came from the
environment. I think there is a case for Makeconfig setting all the
subdirectory variables (other than subdir) to empty to ensure no
outside value is going to take effect if a subdirectory fails to
define a variable. (A list of such variables, possibly out of date
and incomplete, is in manual/maint.texi.) Rules and Makerules would
give errors if Makeconfig hadn't already been included, instead of
including it themselves. The special code to override values coming
from the environment would then be obsolete and could be removed.

Tested x86_64, including that installed binaries are identical before
and after the patch.

Joseph Myers f0881698bf Generate .test-result files for tests with special rules.
This patch, an updated version of
<https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2014-01/msg00194.html> now
proposed for inclusion in glibc, extends the generation of PASS and
FAIL status in .test-result files for individual tests to cover tests
with their own custom makefile rules. This is just adding
$(evaluate-test) calls to all such rules, since tests with multiple
commands were previously split into separate tests.

Note that the tests the makefiles expect to fail (posix/annexc and
conformtest) currently get FAIL listed in the .test-result file,
rather than XFAIL; a subsequent patch will introduce a better XFAIL
mechanism.

Tested x86_64.
