Linus Torvalds 98ced886dd Kbuild thin archives updates for v4.13
Thin archives migration by Nicholas Piggin.

THIN_ARCHIVES has been available for a while as an optional feature
only for PowerPC architecture, but we do not need two different
 intermediate-artifact schemes.

Using thin archives instead of conventional incremental linking has
 various advantages:
  - save disk space for builds
  - speed-up building a little
  - fix some link issues (for example, allyesconfig on ARM) due to
more flexibility for the final linking
  - work better with dead code elimination we are planning

As discussed before, this migration has been done unconditionally
so that any problems caused by this will show up with "git bisect".

With testing with 0-day and linux-next, some architectures actually
showed up problems, but they were trivial and all fixed now.

Nicholas Piggin 8f5ef7c74a sh: thin archives fix linking
The VDSO symbols can't be linked into built-in.o when building with
thin archives, so change this to linking a new object file that is
included into the built-in.o.

Steven Rostedt fbb789f0d6 sh/ftrace: Remove only user of ftrace_arch_read_dyn_info()
I noticed that there's only one user of ftrace_arch_read_dyn_info().
That was used a while ago during the NMI updating in x86, and superh
copied it to implement its version of handling NMIs during
stop_machine().

But that is a debug feature, and this code hasn't been touched since
2009. Also, x86 no longer does the ftrace updates with stop_machine()
and instead uses breakpoints. If superh needs to modify its code, it
should implement the breakpoint conversion, and remove stop_machine().
Which also gets rid of the NMI issue.

Anyway, I want to nuke ftrace_arch_read_dyn_info() and this gets rid of
the one user, which is for an arch that shouldn't need it anymore.

Ingo Molnar c3edc4010e sched/headers: Move task_struct::signal and task_struct::sighand types and accessors into <linux/sched/signal.h>
task_struct::signal and task_struct::sighand are pointers, which would normally make it
straightforward to not define those types in sched.h.

That is not so, because the types are accompanied by a myriad of APIs (macros and inline
functions) that dereference them.

Split the types and the APIs out of sched.h and move them into a new header, <linux/sched/signal.h>.

With this change sched.h does not know about 'struct signal' and 'struct sighand' anymore,
trying to put accessors into sched.h as a test fails the following way:

  ./include/linux/sched.h: In function ‘test_signal_types’:
./include/linux/sched.h:2461:18: error: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type ‘struct signal_struct’
                    ^

This reduces the size and complexity of sched.h significantly.

Update all headers and .c code that relied on getting the signal handling
functionality from <linux/sched.h> to include <linux/sched/signal.h>.

The list of affected files in the preparatory patch was partly generated by
grepping for the APIs, and partly by doing coverage build testing, both
all[yes|mod|def|no]config builds on 64-bit and 32-bit x86, and an array of
cross-architecture builds.

Nevertheless some (trivial) build breakage is still expected related to rare
Kconfig combinations and in-flight patches to various kernel code, but most
of it should be handled by this patch.

Vegard Nossum 3fce371bfa mm: add new mmget() helper
Apart from adding the helper function itself, the rest of the kernel is
converted mechanically using:

  git grep -l 'atomic_inc.*mm_users' | xargs sed -i 's/atomic_inc(&\(.*\)->mm_users);/mmget\(\1\);/'
  git grep -l 'atomic_inc.*mm_users' | xargs sed -i 's/atomic_inc(&\(.*\)\.mm_users);/mmget\(\&\1\);/'

This is needed for a later patch that hooks into the helper, but might
be a worthwhile cleanup on its own.

Linus Torvalds ac1820fb28 This is a tree wide change and has been kept separate for that reason.
Bart Van Assche noted that the ib DMA mapping code was significantly
similar enough to the core DMA mapping code that with a few changes
it was possible to remove the IB DMA mapping code entirely and
switch the RDMA stack to use the core DMA mapping code. This resulted
in a nice set of cleanups, but touched the entire tree. This branch
will be submitted separately to Linus at the end of the merge window
as per normal practice for tree wide changes like this.

Linus Torvalds 37c85961c3 TTY/Serial driver patches for 4.11-rc1
Here is the big tty/serial driver patchset for 4.11-rc1.

Not much here, but a lot of little fixes and individual serial driver
updates all over the subsystem. Majority are for the sh-sci driver and
platform (the arch-specific changes have acks from the maintainer).

The start of the "serial bus" code is here as well, but nothing is
converted to use it yet. That work is still ongoing, hopefully will
start to show up across different subsystems for 4.12 (bluetooth is one
major place that will be used.)

All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported
 issues.

Paul Gortmaker d92280d132 sh: migrate exception table users off module.h and onto extable.h
These files were only including module.h for exception table
related functions. We've now separated that content out into its
own file "extable.h" so now move over to that and avoid all the
extra header content in module.h that we don't really need to compile
these files.

One uses "print_modules" so that prevents us removing module.h in
that case, however.

We also delete a duplicate prototype that doesn't need to exist, as
it duplicates content in extable.h

Laurent Pinchart dfc80387ae serial: sh-sci: Compute the regshift value for SCI ports
SCI instances found in SH SoCs have different spacing between registers
depending on the SoC. The platform data contains a regshift field that
tells the driver by how many bits to shift the register offset to
compute its address. We can compute the regshift value automatically
based on the memory resource size, there's no need to pass the value
through platform data.

Fix the sh7750 SCI and sh7760 SIM port memory resources length to ensure
proper computation of the regshift value.

Laurent Pinchart 203a1aeb5d sh: Don't set sh-sci pdata scscr TIE and RIE bits
The scscr platform data field is used by the driver in three locations.
One of them masks out all bits except SCSCR_REIE. The two other are the
set_termios handler and the console write handler.

The set_termios handler calls sci_start_rx() to enable the receiver,
which sets the RIE bit unconditionally. It then calls sci_port_disable()
that effectively disables both the transmitter and the receiver. The
TIE bit will thus get set later when the serial cores reenables the
serial port.

The console write handler runs with interrupts disabled, and saves and
restores the SCSCR register value. The RIE and TIE bits are thus not
needed there.

The bits are thus not necessary in platform data, remove them.

Chris Metcalf 6727ad9e20 nmi_backtrace: generate one-line reports for idle cpus
When doing an nmi backtrace of many cores, most of which are idle, the
output is a little overwhelming and very uninformative. Suppress
messages for cpus that are idling when they are interrupted and just
emit one line, "NMI backtrace for N skipped: idling at pc 0xNNN".

We do this by grouping all the cpuidle code together into a new
.cpuidle.text section, and then checking the address of the interrupted
PC to see if it lies within that section.

This commit suitably tags x86 and tile idle routines, and only adds in
the minimal framework for other architectures.

Steven Rostedt (Red Hat) 7b2c862501 tracing: Add NMI tracing in hwlat detector
As NMIs can also cause latency when interrupts are disabled, the hwlat
detectory has no way to know if the latency it detects is from an NMI or an
SMI or some other hardware glitch.

As ftrace_nmi_enter/exit() funtions are no longer used (except for sh, which
isn't supported anymore), I converted those to "arch_ftrace_nmi_enter/exit"
and use ftrace_nmi_enter/exit() to check if hwlat detector is tracing or
not, and if so, it calls into the hwlat utility.

Since the hwlat detector only has a single kthread that is spinning with
interrupts disabled, it marks what CPU it is on, and if the NMI callback
happens on that CPU, it records the time spent in that NMI. This is added to
the output that is generated by the hwlat detector as:

 #3 inner/outer(us): 9/9 ts:1470836488.206734548
 #4 inner/outer(us): 0/8 ts:1470836497.140808588
 #5 inner/outer(us): 0/6 ts:1470836499.140825168 nmi-total:5 nmi-count:1
 #6 inner/outer(us): 9/9 ts:1470836501.140841748

All time is still tracked in microseconds.

The NMI information is only shown when an NMI occurred during the sample.

bytes of memory usage per task (depending on whether it's a 32-bit or
64-bit platform).

Rich Felker b4214e41b7 sh: add SMP support for J2
Support is hooked up via a cpu start method specified in the device
tree, and also depends on DT nodes that describe the interfaces for
performing IPI and identifying which cpu execution is taking place on.
The currently used method is a form of spin table, where secondary
cpus are unblocked by writing to a special address.

Rich Felker 4b6ef05b3e sh: SMP support for SH2 entry.S
The SH2 version of entry.S uses global variables, which need to be
cpu-local in order to work with SMP. For ease of access from asm,
simply use arrays indexed by cpu number, and require the availability
of an address (mmio register or properly setup per-cpu memory) from
which the current cpu's index can be read.

Rich Felker 834da19705 sh: add AT_HWCAP flag for J-Core cas.l instruction
The J-Core cpu has, as an ISA extension, an atomic compare-and-swap
instruction cas.l which applications need to use (instead the imask or
gusa atomic models, which are fundamentally limited to UP) for
synchronization in order to be compatible with SMP systems. Provide a
hwcap flag so that it's possible to do runtime selection and support
both.

Rich Felker 5a846abad0 sh: add support for J-Core J2 processor
At the CPU/ISA level, the J2 is compatible with SH-2, and thus the
changes to add J2 support build on existing SH-2 support. However, J2
does not duplicate the memory-mapped SH-2 features like the cache
interface. Instead, the cache interfaces is described in the device
tree, and new code is added to be able to access the flat device tree
at early boot before it is unflattened.

Support is also added for receiving interrupts on trap numbers in the
range 16 to 31, since the J-Core aic1 interrupt controller generates
these traps. This range was unused but nominally for hardware
exceptions on SH-2, and a few values in this range were used for
exceptions on SH-2A, but SH-2A has its own version of the relevant
code.

No individual cpu subtypes are added for J2 since the intent moving
forward is to represent SoCs with device tree rather than as
hard-coded subtypes in the kernel. The CPU_SUBTYPE_J2 Kconfig item
exists only to fit into the existing cpu selection mechanism until it
is overhauled.

Krzysztof Kozlowski 00085f1efa dma-mapping: use unsigned long for dma_attrs
The dma-mapping core and the implementations do not change the DMA
attributes passed by pointer. Thus the pointer can point to const data.
However the attributes do not have to be a bitfield. Instead unsigned
long will do fine:

1. This is just simpler. Both in terms of reading the code and setting
attributes. Instead of initializing local attributes on the stack
and passing pointer to it to dma_set_attr(), just set the bits.

2. It brings safeness and checking for const correctness because the
   attributes are passed by value.

Paul Gortmaker 7a65a34fae sh: make time.c explicitly non-modular
The Makefile currently controlling compilation of this code is:

obj-y   := debugtraps.o dma-nommu.o dumpstack.o                 \
[...]
           syscalls_$(BITS).o time.o topology.o traps.o \
           traps_$(BITS).o unwinder.o

....meaning that it currently is not being built as a module by anyone.

Lets remove the couple traces of modular code, so that when reading
the driver there is no doubt it is builtin-only.

Since module_init translates to device_initcall in the non-modular
case, the init ordering remains unchanged with this commit.
