It allows for cleaning up on a considerable amount of places. They did
port_get, hangup, kref_put. Now the only thing needed is to call
tty_port_tty_hangup which does exactly that. And they can also decide
whether to consider CLOCAL or completely ignore that.

It allows for cleaning up on a considerable amount of places. They did
port_get, wakeup, kref_put. Now the only thing needed is to call
tty_port_tty_wakeup which does exactly that.
One exception is ifx6x60 where tty_wakeup was open-coded. We now call
tty_wakeup properly there.

data_len in jsm_input cannot be zero as we would jump out early in the
function. It also cannot be negative because it is an int and we do
bitwise and with 8192. So remove the check.

The code in 8250.c for detecting ARM/XScale UARTs says:
* Try writing and reading the UART_IER_UUE bit (b6).
* If it works, this is probably one of the Xscale platform's
* internal UARTs.
If the above passes, it then goes on to:
* It's an Xscale.
* We'll leave the UART_IER_UUE bit set to 1 (enabled).
However, the CH352 uses the UART_IER_UUE as the LOWPOWER function,
so it is readable and writable. According to the datasheet:
"LOWPOWER:When the bit is 1, close the internal benchmark
clock of serial port to set into low-power status.
So it essentially gets mis-detected as Xscale, and gets
powered down in the process. The device in question where
this was seen is listed by lspci as:
Serial controller: Device 4348:3253 (rev 10) (prog-if 02 [16550])
Re-using the 353 quirk which just sets flags to fixed and type
to 16550 is suitable for fixing the 352 as well.

With the new OF DMA binding, it is possible to completely avoid the
need for platform_data for configuring a DMA channel. In cases where the
platform has already been converted, calling dma_request_slave_channel
should get all the necessary information from the device tree.
This also adds a binding document specific to the pl011 controller,
and extends the generic primecell binding to mention "dmas" and other
common properties.
Like the patch that converts the dw_dma controller, this is completely
untested and is looking for someone to try it out.

The Kconfig symbol SERIAL_S3C2412 got removed in commit
da121506eb ("serial: samsung: merge
probe() function from all SoC specific extensions"). But it also added a
last reference to that symbol. The commit and the tree make clear that
CPU_S3C2412 should have been used instead.

With commit 835d844d1 (8250_pnp: do pnp probe before legacy probe), the
8250 driver was renamed to 8250_core. This means any existing usage of
the 8259.<xxxx> module parameters or as a kernel command line switch is
now broken, as the 8250_core driver doesn't parse options belonging to
something called "8250".
To solve this, we redefine the module options in a dummy function using
a redefined MODULE_PARAM_PREFX when built into the kernel. In the case
where we're building as a module, we provide an alias to the old 8250
name. The dummy function prevents compiler errors due to global variable
redefinitions that happen as part of the module_param_ macro expansions.

The InsydeH2O BIOS (version dated 09/12/2011) has the following in
its pnp resouces for its serial ports:
$ cat /sys/bus/pnp/devices/00:0b/resources
state = active
io disabled
irq disabled
We do not check if the resources are disabled, and create a bogus
ttyS* device. Since commit 835d844d1a (8250_pnp: do pnp probe
before legacy probe) we get a bogus ttyS0, which prevents the legacy
probe from detecting it.
Note, the BIOS can also be upgraded, fixing this problem, but for people
who can't do that, this fix is needed.

I've managed to find an 8 port version of the card 4 port card which was discussed here:

Looking back at that thread there were two issues in the original patch.
1) The I/O ports for the UARTs are within BAR2 not BAR0. This can been seen in the original post.
2) A serial quirk isn't needed as these cards have no memory in BAR0 which makes pci_plx9050_init just return.
This patch fixes the 4 port support to use BAR2, removes the bogus quirk and adds support for the 8 port card.

mpc512x platform clock code names PSC clocks as "pscX_mclk" but
the driver tries to get "pscX_clk" clock and this results in
errors like:
mpc52xx-psc-uart 80011700.psc: Failed to get PSC clock entry!
The problem appears when opening ttyPSC devices other than the
system's serial console. Since getting and enabling the PSC clock
fails, uart port startup doesn't succeed and tty flag TTY_IO_ERROR
remains set causing further errors in tty ioctls, i.e.

commit 9ec1882df2 (tty: serial: imx: console write routing is unsafe
on SMP) introduced a recursive locking bug in imx_console_write().
The callchain is:
imx_rxint()
spin_lock_irqsave(&sport->port.lock,flags);
...
uart_handle_sysrq_char();
sysrq_function();
printk();
imx_console_write();
spin_lock_irqsave(&sport->port.lock,flags); <--- DEAD
The bad news is that the kernel debugging facilities can dectect the
problem, but the printks never surface on the serial console for
obvious reasons.
There is a similar issue with oops_in_progress. If the kernel crashes
we really don't want to be stuck on the lock and unable to tell what
happened.
In general most UP originated drivers miss these checks and nobody
ever notices because CONFIG_PROVE_LOCKING seems to be still ignored by
a large number of developers.
The solution is to avoid locking in the sysrq case and trylock in the
oops_in_progress case.
This scheme is used in other drivers as well and it would be nice if
we could move this to a common place, so the usual copy/paste/modify
bugs can be avoided.
Now there is another issue with this scheme:

if (port->sysrq)
avoid locking
port->sysrq is reset with the next receive character. So as long as
the port->sysrq is not reset and this can take an endless amount of
time if after the break no futher receive character follows, all
console writes happen unlocked.
While the current writer is protected against other console writers by
the console sem, it's unprotected against open/close or other
operations which fiddle with the port. That's what the above mentioned
commit tried to solve.
That's an issue in all drivers which use that scheme and unfortunately
there is no easy workaround. The only solution is to have a separate
indicator port->sysrq_cpu. uart_handle_sysrq_char() then sets it to
smp_processor_id() before calling into handle_sysrq() and resets it to
-1 after that. Then change the locking check to:

That would force all other cpus into the spin_lock path. Problem
solved, but that's way beyond the scope of this fix and really wants
to be implemented in a common function which calls the uart specific
write function to avoid another gazillion of hard to debug
copy/paste/modify bugs.

hardpps() functionality is provided through the N_PPS line
discipline now. The new function signature was added in commit
025b40ab (2011-01-12). There was no previous macro or
function hardpps(), at least since before the initial commit of
v2.6.12 in 2005. It's unlikely this code has been compiled since.

The PPS (Pulse-Per-Second) line discipline has developed a number of
unhealthy attachments to core tty data and functions, ultimately leading
to its breakage.
The previous patches fixed the crashing. This one reduces coupling further
by eliminating the timestamp parameter from the dcd_change ldisc method.
This reduces header file linkage and makes the extension more generic,
and the timestamp read is delayed only slightly, from just before the
ldisc->ops->dcd_change method call to just after.

Original configuration of Rx FIFO threshold contained an error
that resulted Rx threshold to be effectively set to 1 character
instead of 16 characters, as noted in comments.
Checking LSR to contain UART_LSR_THRE bit set caused issue when
not all UART_IER_THRI interrupts have been properly handled.
This caused gap in Tx data, visible on high baud rates using
oscilloscope.
Setting OMAP_UART_SCR_TX_EMPTY bit in SCR caused UART_IER_THRI
interrupt to be raised only when Tx FIFO and Tx shift registers
are empty.

There's no reason kgdb.h itself needs to include the 8250 serial port
header file. So push it down to the _very_ limited number of individual
drivers that need the values in that file, and fix up the places where
people really wanted serial_core.h and platform_device.h.

Add support for later SUNIX (TIMEDIA) Universal PCI Single and Multi-Port
Communications Boards.
These boards have PCI Vendor ID 1fd4 with device ID 1999 but otherwise
appear to be the same as the TIMEDIA boards already supported by 8250_pci
and parport_serial.
Tested with:
a. the two port serial board part number SER5037A,
b. the two port serial and one port parallel board part number
MIO5079A.

When PCH_UART_CONSOLE and SERIAL_CORE_CONSOLE is not set neither, the
uart_port will have no 'sysrq' member hence their will need a '#ifdef'
in pch_uart.c to handle the case, otherwise we'll see compile error

There is no need to memset 0 to SPI frame memory before preparing
transfer frame bits, because SPI frame header are encoded with valid
data size, so don't need to worry about adopting dirty bits, more,
memset zero for each SPI frame may impact the spi throughput efficiency.

When send break to the uart port, we always get 'frame error', but we
can not just reset receive fifo in such case, otherwise the sysrq cmd
will not be received correctly.
When we handle sysrq output via pch_console_write, the priv lock has
already been taken so no need to take the lock in pch_console_write.

When we use pch_uart as system console like 'console=ttyPCH0,115200',
then 'send break' to it. We'll encounter the deadlock on a cpu/core,
with interrupts disabled on the core. When we happen to have all irqs
affinity to cpu0 then the deadlock on cpu0 actually deadlock whole
system.
In pch_uart_interrupt, we have spin_lock_irqsave(&priv->lock, flags)
then call pch_uart_err_ir when break is received. Then the call to
dev_err would actually call to pch_console_write then we'll run into
another spin_lock(&priv->lock), with interrupts disabled.
So in the call sequence lead by pch_uart_interrupt, we should be
carefully to call functions that will 'print message to console' only
in case the uart port is not being used as serial console.

The option allows you to remove TTY and compile without errors. This
saves space on systems that won't support TTY interfaces anyway.

The bulk of this patch consists of Kconfig changes adding "depends on
TTY" to various serial devices and similar drivers that require the TTY
layer. Ideally, these dependencies would occur on a common intermediate
symbol such as SERIO, but most drivers "select SERIO" rather than
"depends on SERIO", and "select" does not respect dependencies.

Reorder iomem mapping above clk_enable to simplify fail code. The

UART modules on Wondermedia SoCs are connected via a gated clock
source, rather than directly to the 24Mhz reference clock. While
uboot enables UART0 for debugging, other UART ports are unavailable
until the clock is enabled.
This patch checks that a valid clock is actually passed from devicetree,
enables the clock in probe. This change removes the fallback when a
clock was not specified as it doesn't apply any longer (and would only
work if the UART clock was already enabled).
DTSI files are updated for VT8500, WM8505 and WM8650.

This driver supports the RocketPort EXPRESS and RocketPort INFINITY
families of PCI/PCIe multiport serial adapters. These adapters use a
"RocketPort 2" ASIC that is not compatible with the original RocketPort
driver (CONFIG_ROCKETPORT).
Tested with the RocketPort EXPRESS Octa DB9 and Quad DB9. Also added an
old RocketPort 8J PCI card to the same system to verify that rocket.c and
rp2.c coexist peacefully.

Original table in OMAP TRM named "UART Mode Baud Rates, Divisor
Values, and Error Rates" determines modes not for all common baud
rates. E.g. for 1000000 baud rate mode should be 16x, but according to
that table it's determined as 13x. According to current implementation
of mode divisor selection, after requesting 1000000 baudrate from
driver, later one will configure chip to use MODE13 divisor. Assuming
48Mhz as common UART clock speed, MODE13 divisor will effectively give
1230769 baudrate, what is quite far from desired 1000000 baudrate.
While with MODE16 divisor, chip will produce exact 1000000 baudrate.
In old driver that served UART devices (8250.c and serial_core.c) this
divisor could have been configured by user-space program, but in
omap_serial.c driver implementation this ability was not implemented
(afaik, by design) thus disallowing proper usage of MODE16-compatible
baudrates.

The fast lookup table to set baudrate is only right when ioclk
is 150MHz. for most platforms, ioclk is 150MHz, but some boards
might set ioclk to other frequency.
so re-calc the clk_div_reg when ioclk is not 150MHz. this patch
also gets clk in probe and puts it in remove.

Add support for the UART device present in Broadcom TruManage capable
NetXtreme chips (ie: 5761m 5762, and 5725).
This implementation has a hidden transmit FIFO, so running in single-byte
interrupt mode results in too many interrupts. The UART_CAP_HFIFO
capability was added to track this. It continues to reload the THR as long
as the THRE and TSRE bits are set in the LSR up to a specified limit (1024
is used here).

The default burst is often 1 byte which is not very optimal.
The ideal burst size when using 16550A type port would be
1/2 of fifosize, but this does not work with all Designware
implementations. Setting it to 1/4 fifosize.

This adds support for ACPI 5.0 enumerated Designware UARTs.
ACPI does not deliver information about uart clk, so
delivering it with the driver_data.

Designware UART provides optional Component Parameter
Register that lists most of the capabilities of the UART,
including FIFO size. This uses that register to set FIFO
size for the port before registering it.

Modern UARTs are able to provide information about their
capabilities such as FIFO size. This allows the drivers to
deliver this information to 8250.c when they are registering

One point is to have less places where we actually need tty pointer.
The other is that low_latency is bound to buffer processing and
buffers are now in tty_port. So it makes sense to move low_latency to
tty_port too.

probe routine could index into port[] with -ve index. The check in
arc_uart_init_one() was too late.
This came to light when trying to port driver to CONFIG_OF, where
bydefault of-core code sets -ve platform dev id and in absence of
DT serial aliases, driver would use the -ve index.

NVIDIA's Tegra has multiple UART controller which supports:
- APB DMA based controller fifo read/write.
- End Of Data interrupt in incoming data to know whether end
of frame achieve or not.
- HW controlled RTS and CTS flow control to reduce SW overhead.

Now that support for RM9000 and platforms based on it has been removed,
remove the serial driver for it as well. It's really only been a quirk
for an almost 8250 compatible UART anyway.

CSR SiRFmarco's UART IP is same with SiRFprimaII except that
it has two more uart ports.
this patch makes the old driver support new SiRFmarco as well:
1. add .compatible = "sirf,marco-uart" to OF match table
2. add two ports in the port table
3. take spin_lock in isr to avoid the conflict of threads opening
uart on CPU1 and isr running on CPU0.
For 3, we did see some problems on SiRFmarco as SiRFmarco is a
SMP SoC but the old SiRFprimaII is UP.

The serial core is using power states lifted from ACPI for no
good reason. Remove this reference from the documentation and
alter all users to use an enum specific to the serial core
instead, and define it in <linux/serial_core.h>.

Some systems require the additional communication functionality of a
9-bit UART. For that we could use the "stick" (mark/space) parity
bit supported on omap serial device. When is set, if PARODD is set the
parity bit is always 1; if PARODD is not set, then the parity bit is
always 0.

As protocol driver, IFX SPI driver initiate to setup SPI master with default
SPI word size as 16 bit/word, however, SPI master may not adopt this default
value due to SPI controller's capability, it might choose an available value by
itself and set it to spi_device.bits_per_word. In order to keep align with
Controller, IFX driver should make use of this value during SPI transfer,
but the default one.

With the patch "serial: mxs-auart: fix the wrong RTS hardware flow control" the
mainline mxs-uart driver now sets RTSEN only when hardware flow control is
enabled via software. It is not possible any longer to set RTS manually via
software. However, the manual modification is a valid operation.
Regain the possibility to set RTS via software and only set RTSEN when hardware
flow control is explicitly enabled via settermios cflag CRTSCTS.

There's no need to test whether a (delayed) work item in pending
before queueing, flushing or cancelling it. Most uses are unnecessary
and quite a few of them are buggy.
Remove unnecessary pending tests from max3100. Only compile tested.

"This series is a major reworking of the OMAP serial driver code fixing
various bugs in the hardware-assisted flow control, extending up into
serial_core for a couple of issues. These fixes have been done as a
set of progressive changes and transformations in the hope that no new
bugs will be introduced by this series.
The problems are many-fold, from the driver not being informed about
updated settings, to the driver not knowing what the intentions of the
upper layers are.
The first four patches tackle the serial_core layer, allowing it to
provide the necessary information to drivers, and the remaining
patches allow the OMAP serial driver to take advantage of this.
This brings hardware assisted RTS/CTS and XON/OFF flow control into a
useful state.

We should first unmap the DMA scatter list for receiving data, and
then copy the data from the DMA buffer.

When the DMA is enabled, the Receive Timeout interrupt is very easy to be arised
in the 3M baud rate. The interrupt handler (aka mxs_auart_irq_handle) will call
mxs_auart_rx_chars() to handle the received data. This is not right, we can not
get the correct data from the RXFIFO now, the data have been moved to the
DMA buffer by the DMA engine.
This patch
(1) disables the Receive Timeout Interrupt when the DMA is enabled,
(2) and invoke the mxs_auart_rx_chars() only when the DMA is not enabled.

Certain tty line discipline implementations such slip and bluetooth hci invoke
the serial core uart_write() api in their write_wakeup callback. This leads to
a soft lockup with samsung serial driver since the uart port lock is taken in
the driver's interrupt handler and uart_write() attempts to take the same lock
again.
Fix this issue by releasing the uart port lock before the call to
uart_write_wakeup() in the tx handler. Also move the spin-lock/unlock sequence
from s3c64xx_serial_handle_irq() function into the tx and rx irq handlers so
that this change is applicable to s3c24xx platforms as well.

Only we meet the following conditions, we can enable the DMA support for
auart:
(1) We enable the DMA support in the dts file, such as
arch/arm/boot/dts/imx28.dtsi.
(2) We enable the hardware flow control.
(3) We use the mx28, not the mx23. Due to hardware bug(see errata: 2836),

The current mxs-auart driver is used for both mx23 and mx28.
But in mx23, the DMA has a bug(see errata:2836). We can not add the
DMA support in mx23, but we can add DMA support to auart in mx28.
So in order to add the DMA support for the auart in mx28, we should
distinguish the distinguish SOCs.
This patch adds a new platform_device_id table and a inline function
is_imx28_auart() to distinguish the mx23 and mx28.

Allows overriding default methods serial_in/serial_out.
In such platform specific replacement it is possible to use
other regshift, biased register offset, any other manipulation
that is not covered with common default methods.
Overriding default methods may be useful for platforms which got
serial peripheral with registers represented in big endian.
In this situation and assuming that 32 bit operations / alignment
is required then it may be useful to swab words before/after
accessing the serial registers.

The definitions provided by serial_at91.h are only used by the
atmel_serial driver, and the function that uses it is never called
from anywhere in the kernel. Therefore, these definitions are unused
and/or obsolete, and can be removed.

In the previous commit, console write function (serial_console_write)
is changed to disable SCI interrupts while printing console strings.
This introduces possible race cases in the serial startup / shutdown
functions on SMP systems.
This patch fixes the sh-sci in the same way as commit 9ec1882df2
(tty: serial: imx: console write routing is unsafe on SMP, from
Xinyu Chen <xinyu.chen@freescale.com>, 2012-08-27) did.
There could be several consumers of the console,
* the kernel printk
* the init process using /dev/kmsg to call printk to show log
* shell, which opens /dev/console and writes with sys_write()
The shell goes into the normal UART open() and write() system calls,
while the other two go into the console operations. The open() call
invokes serial startup function (sci_startup), which will write to
the SCSCR register (to enable or disable SCI interrupts) without any
locking. This will conflict with the console serial function.
Add spinlock protections in sci_startup() and sci_shutdown() properly.

Symptom:
When entering the suspend with Android logcat running, printk() call
gets stuck and never returns. The issue can be observed at printk()s
on nonboot CPUs when going to offline with their interrupts disabled,
and never seen at boot CPU (core0 in our case).
Details:
serial_console_write() lacks of appropriate spinlock handling.
In SMP systems, as long as sci_transmit_chars() is being processed
at one CPU core, serial_console_write() can stuck at the other CPU
core(s), when it tries to access to the same serial port _without_
a proper locking. serial_console_write() waits for the transmit FIFO
getting empty, while sci_transmit_chars() writes data to the FIFO.
In general, peripheral interrupts are routed to boot CPU (core0) by
Linux ARM standard affinity settings. SCI(F) interrupts are handled
by core0, so sci_transmit_chars() is processed on core0 as well.
When logcat is running, it writes enormous log data to the kernel at
every moment, forever. So core0 can repeatedly continue to process
sci_transmit_chars() in its interrupt handler, which eventually makes
the other CPU core(s) stuck at serial_console_write().
Looking at serial/8250.c, this is a known console write lockup issue
with SMP kernels. Fix the sh-sci driver in the same way 8250.c does.

About FIFO count, there are two variants of SCIFs which show
a) TX count in upper, RX count in lower byte of FDR register
b) TX count in TFDR register, RX count in RFDR register
Common SCIFB regmap in current source code is defined as "a".
At least 7372 and 73a0 HW manual say their SICFB are "b".
This patch alters the definition to "b", considering the current
one has come from a mistake. The reason is as follows.
The flag SCIFB sh-sci driver means it has 256 byte FIFO.
The count is from 0(empty) to 256(full), that makes 9-bit.
Because FDR is 16-bit register, it can not hold two 9-bits.
That's why, SCIFB can not be "a".

Current mask 0xff to SCTFDR/RFDR damages SCIFB, because the
registers on SCIFB have 9-bit data (0 to 256).
This patch changes the mask according to port->fifosize.
Though I'm not sure if the mask is really needed (I don't know if
there are variants which have non-zero upper bits), it is safer.

Support prescaler 1/16 and 1/64, in addition to current 1 and 1/4.
Supporting below 2400bps was dropped long time ago in mainline.
Since then, setting lower rate has been resulting in erroneous
register value, without indicating any errors through API.
This patch adds more prescaler to support lower rates again.
This still doesn't check range, but we won't hit the case because
even 50bps at 48MHz clock is now supported.

The commit 1ba7622094 (serial: sh-sci: console Runtime PM support,
from Magnus Damm <damm@opensource.se>, 2011-08-03), tried to support
console runtime PM, but unfortunately it didn't work for us for some
reason. We did not investigated further at that time, instead would
like to propose a different approach.
In Linux tty/serial world, to get console PM work properly, a serial
client driver does not have to maintain .runtime_suspend()/..resume()
calls itself, but can leave console power power management handling to
the serial core driver.
This patch moves the sh-sci driver in that direction.
Notes:
* There is room to optimize console runtime PM more aggressively by
maintaining additional local runtime PM calls, but as a first step
having .pm() operation would suffice.
* We still have a couple of direct calls to sci_port_enable/..disable
left in the driver. We have to live with them, because they're out
of serial core's help.

The generic 'serial_core' can take care of console PM maintenance,
so all (or at least the first thing) we have to do to get console PM
work properly, is to implement uart_ops ->pm() operation in the sh-sci
serial client driver.
This patch partially reverts the commit above, but leaving sci_reset()
change in place, because sci_reset() is already part of another commit
(73c3d53f38 serial: sh-sci: Avoid FIFO clear for MCE toggle.).
A revised version of console PM support follows next.

After commit "TTY: move tty buffers to tty_port", the tty buffers are
not freed in some drivers. This is because tty_port_destructor is not
called whenever a tty_port is freed. This was an assumption I counted
with but was unfortunately untrue. So fix the drivers to fulfil this
assumption.
To be sure, the TTY buffers (and later some stuff) are gone along with
the tty_port, we have to call tty_port_destroy at tear-down places.
This is mostly where the structure containing a tty_port is freed.
This patch does exactly that -- put tty_port_destroy at those places.

This patch is to correct the bit mapping of "MORE" and "CTS" in SPI frame header.
Per SPI protocol, SPI header is encoded with length of 4 byte, which is defined
as below:
bit 0 ~ 11: current data size;
bit 12: "MORE" bit;
bit 13: reserve
bit 14 ~ 15: reserve
bit 16 ~ 27: next data size
bit 28: RI
bit 29: DCD
bit 30: CTS/RTS
bit 31: DSR/DTR
According to above SPI header structure, the bit mapping of "MORE" and "CTS" is
incorrect in function ifx_spi_decode_spi_header();

When the UART device has hardware flow control enabled, it ignores the
MCR RTS bit in the MCR register, and keeps RTS asserted as long as we
continue to read characters from the UART receiver FIFO. This means
that when the TTY buffers become full, the UART doesn't tell the remote
end to stop sending, which causes the TTY layer to start dropping
characters.
A similar problem exists with software flow control. We need the FIFO
register to fill when software flow control is enabled to provoke the
UART to send the XOFF character.
Fix this by implementing the throttle/unthrottle callbacks, and use
these to disable receiver interrupts. This in turn means that the UART
FIFO will fill, which will then cause the UART's hardware to deassert
the RTS signal and/or send the XOFF character, stopping the remote end.
