Arjan van de Ven 92e1d5be91 [PATCH] mark struct inode_operations const 2
Many struct inode_operations in the kernel can be "const". Marking them const
moves these to the .rodata section, which avoids false sharing with potential
dirty data. In addition it'll catch accidental writes at compile time to
these shared resources.

Christoph Hellwig f5e54d6e53 [PATCH] mark address_space_operations const
Same as with already do with the file operations: keep them in .rodata and
prevents people from doing runtime patching.

David Howells 726c334223 [PATCH] VFS: Permit filesystem to perform statfs with a known root dentry
Give the statfs superblock operation a dentry pointer rather than a superblock
pointer.

This complements the get_sb() patch. That reduced the significance of
sb->s_root, allowing NFS to place a fake root there. However, NFS does
require a dentry to use as a target for the statfs operation. This permits
the root in the vfsmount to be used instead.

linux/mount.h has been added where necessary to make allyesconfig build
successfully.

Interest has also been expressed for use with the FUSE and XFS filesystems.

David Woodhouse 9bfeb691e7 [JFFS2] Switch to using an array of jffs2_raw_node_refs instead of a list.
This allows us to drop another pointer from the struct jffs2_raw_node_ref,
shrinking it to 8 bytes on 32-bit machines (if the TEST_TOTLEN) paranoia
check is turned off, which will be committed soon).

Joern Engel 5fa433942b [MTD] Introduce MTD_BIT_WRITEABLE
o Add a flag MTD_BIT_WRITEABLE for devices that allow single bits to be
  cleared.
o Replace MTD_PROGRAM_REGIONS with a cleared MTD_BIT_WRITEABLE flag for
STMicro and Intel Sibley flashes with internal ECC. Those flashes
disallow clearing of single bits, unlike regular NOR flashes, so the
new flag models their behaviour better.
o Remove MTD_ECC. After the STMicro/Sibley merge, this flag is only set
  and never checked.

Joern Engel c8b229de2b [MTD] Merge STMicro NOR_ECC code with Intel Sibley code
In 2002, STMicro started producing NOR flashes with internal ECC protection
for small blocks (8 or 16 bytes). Support for those flashes was added by me.
In 2005, Intel Sibley flashes copied this strategy and Nico added support for
those. Merge the code for both.

David Woodhouse aef9ab4784 [JFFS2] Support new device nodes
Device node major/minor numbers are just stored in the payload of a single
data node. Just extend that to 4 bytes and use new_encode_dev() for it.

We only use the 4-byte format if we _need_ to, if !old_valid_dev(foo).
This preserves backwards compatibility with older code as much as
possible. If we do make devices with major or minor numbers above 255, and
then mount the file system with the old code, it'll just read the first
two bytes and get the numbers wrong. If it comes to garbage-collect it,
it'll then write back those wrong numbers. But that's about the best we
can expect.

KaiGai Kohei aa98d7cf59 [JFFS2][XATTR] XATTR support on JFFS2 (version. 5)
This attached patches provide xattr support including POSIX-ACL and
SELinux support on JFFS2 (version.5).

There are some significant differences from previous version posted
at last December.
The biggest change is addition of EBS(Erase Block Summary) support.
Currently, both kernel and usermode utility (sumtool) can recognize
xattr nodes which have JFFS2_NODETYPE_XATTR/_XREF nodetype.

In addition, some bugs are fixed.
- A potential race condition was fixed.
- Unexpected fail when updating a xattr by same name/value pair was fixed.
- A bug when removing xattr name/value pair was fixed.

The fundamental structures (such as using two new nodetypes and exclusion
mechanism by rwsem) are unchanged. But most of implementation were reviewed
and updated if necessary.
Espacially, we had to change several internal implementations related to
load_xattr_datum() to avoid a potential race condition.

Arjan van de Ven 4b6f5d20b0 [PATCH] Make most file operations structs in fs/ const
This is a conversion to make the various file_operations structs in fs/
const. Basically a regexp job, with a few manual fixups

The goal is both to increase correctness (harder to accidentally write to
shared datastructures) and reducing the false sharing of cachelines with
things that get dirty in .data (while .rodata is nicely read only and thus
cache clean)

Ferenc Havasi e631ddba58 [JFFS2] Add erase block summary support (mount time improvement)
The goal of summary is to speed up the mount time. Erase block summary (EBS)
stores summary information at the end of every (closed) erase block. It is
no longer necessary to scan all nodes separetly (and read all pages of them)
just read this "small" summary, where every information is stored which is
needed at mount time.

This summary information is stored in a JFFS2_FEATURE_RWCOMPAT_DELETE. During
the mount process if there is no summary info the orignal scan process will
be executed. EBS works with NAND and NOR flashes, too.

There is a user space tool called sumtool to generate this summary
information for a JFFS2 image.

Artem B. Bityutskiy 2b79adcca1 [JFFS2] Use f->target instead of f->dents for symlink target
JFFS2 uses f->dents to store the pointer to the symlink target string (in case
the inode is symlink). This is somewhat ugly to use the same field for
different reasons. Introduce distinct field f->target for this purpose.
Note, f->fragtree, f->dents, f->target may probably be put in a union.

Andrew Victor 2f82ce1eb6 [JFFS2] Use a single config option for write buffer support
This patch replaces the current CONFIG_JFFS2_FS_NAND, CONFIG_JFFS2_FS_NOR_ECC
and CONFIG_JFFS2_FS_DATAFLASH with a single configuration option -
CONFIG_JFFS2_FS_WRITEBUFFER.

The only functional change of this patch is that the slower div/mod
calculations for SECTOR_ADDR(), PAGE_DIV() and PAGE_MOD() are now always
used when CONFIG_JFFS2_FS_WRITEBUFFER is enabled.

Andrew Victor 8f15fd55f9 [JFFS2] Add support for JFFS2-on-Dataflash devices.
For Dataflash, can_mark_obsolete = false and the NAND write buffering
code (wbuf.c) is used.

Since the DataFlash chip will automatically erase pages when writing,
the cleanmarkers are not needed - so cleanmarker_oob = false and
cleanmarker_size = 0

DataFlash page-sizes are not a power of two (they're multiples of 528
bytes). The SECTOR_ADDR macro (added in the previous core patch) is
replaced with a (slower) div/mod version if CONFIG_JFFS2_FS_DATAFLASH is
selected.

Andrew Victor 3be36675d4 [JFFS2] Core changes required to support JFFS2-on-Dataflash devices.
DataFlash page-sizes are not a power of two (they're multiples of 528
bytes). There are a few places in JFFS2 code where sector_size is used
as a bitmask. A new macro (SECTOR_ADDR) was defined to calculate these
sector addresses. For non-DataFlash devices, the original (faster)
bitmask operation is still used.

In scan.c, the EMPTY_SCAN_SIZE was a constant of 1024.
Since this could be larger than the sector size of the DataFlash, this
is now basically set to MIN(sector_size, 1024).

Addition of a jffs2_is_writebuffered() macro.

Linus Torvalds 1da177e4c3 Linux-2.6.12-rc2
Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history,
even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git
archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about
3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early
git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good
infrastructure for it.

Let it rip!
