Fix/optimize the headphone auto-toggle function on sigmatel codecs.

Fixed mic input with STAC92xx codecs. The mic pin was sometimes set to
OUTPUT by the headphone jack detection.
Also, try to assign a secondary mic as front-mic (or vice versa)
in the auto-detection if possible.

Some machines have multiple headpohne pins (usually on the lpatop
and on the docking station) while the current hda-codec driver
assumes a single headphone pin. Now it supports multiple hp pins
(at least for detection).
The sigmatel 92xx code supports this new multiple hp pins.
It detects all hp pins for auto-muting, too.
Also, the driver checks speaker pins in addition. In some cases,
all line-out, speaker and hp-pins coexist.

If I understand the hda_intel code, for format > 20bit it only advertise
the SNDRV_PCM_FMTBIT_S32_LE format and play it at 32 bit, 20 bit or 24 bit.
But if the 20bit and 24bit are available, actually it prefer the 20bit
format. This path is to prefer the 24bit format instead of 20bit.

Looks like I completely forgot to do this. This patch adds locking to
the tas codec so two userspace programs can't hit the controls at the
same time. Tested on my powerbook, but I obviously can't find any
problems even without it since it doesn't do SMP.

Remove IPGA volume controls and merge the IPGA range to ADC volume
controls. These two volumes are not really independent but connected
simply in different ranges 0-0x7f and 0x80-max. It doesn't make sense
to provide two controls.
Since both 0x7f and 0x80 specify 0dB, a hack is needed for IPGA range
to skip 0x80 (increment one) for such controls.

Assign the SPDIF always to the secondary device (dev#1) to keep
the same configuration. Move the optional capture device to the
third device (dev#2).
hda_intel now just ignores the NULL entries in the pcm arrays
from codecs.

This patch addes the support of the independent 'Headphone' volume

Fixed the auto-updating of firmware if the breakout box was switched
off/on. The firmware binary itself was already cached but it wasn't
loaded properly. Also, request_firmware() is issued if the box was
with firmware at module loading time but later it's erased.
The auto-update is triggered at each PCM action (open, prepare, etc)
and at opening proc files.

actual volume. Add a res_table to the codec patch to fix the problem.

When booting with line out or headphone plugged, you won't hear anything.
The problem is that after reset all channels are muted, but the actual
value of the gpio port doesn't exactly match the active_val settings as
expected by check_audio_gpio. For example, the line_mute port is set to
7, but check_audio_gpio would expect 0xd or 0xf, thus its return value
indicates that it is not active, even though it is. AFAICS only looking
at the low bit is enough to determine whether the port is active.

There's at least one USB audio chipset out there which supports only one
non-standard rate (ID 0e6a:0310 supports 46875Hz). There's a few other
patches for this card which are unsatisfactory because they attempt to
map this rate to 44.1k leading to sound distortion.
The patch below uses SNDRV_PCM_RATE_KNOT to properly support the
non-standard rates where they are available.

Fix volume control for the AK4358 DAC.
The attenuation control registers of the AK4358 use only 7bit for the
volume, the msb is used to enable attenuation output. Without this
patch there are 256 volume levels the lower 128 of which are mute.

This patch restores the Intel HDA Sigmatel codec pin configuration on
resume. Most of it is dedicated to saving the BIOS pin configuration
if necessary, so that even unrecognized chips can be resumed correctly.

The PCM and rawmidi substreams can be selected explicitly by opening
control handle and set via *_PREFER_SUBDEVICE ioctl. But, when
multiple controls are opened, the driver gets confused.
The patch fixes the initialization of prefer_*_subdevice and the
check of multiple controls. The first set subdevice is picked up
as the valid one.

The flag to avoid 32bit-incompatible mmap for control/status records
should be outside the pcm substream instance since a substream can be
shared among multiple opens. Now it's flagged in pcm_file list that
is directly assigned to file->private_data.
Also, removed snd_pcm_add_file() and remove_file() functions and
substream.files field that are not really used in the code.

This patch adds PnP BIOS support to es18xx driver. It allows ESS ES18xx sound
chips integrated in some notebooks (such as DTK FortisPro TOP-5A) that don't
appear as ISA cards (they aren't recognized by ISA PnP, only by PnP BIOS)
to 'just work' automatically.

Adds support for the '9205 family' which includes some other
part numbers but 9205 is the first one. These are 4 channel
codecs, some have digital mic capability. Support for the digital
mic feature will come later.

Fix the adjustment of the lost ticks correction variable in the case
when the correction has been fully taken into account in the next timer
expiration value. Subtracting the scheduled ticks value would result in
an underflow.

Added CONFIG_SND_AC97_POWER_SAVE kernel config to enable the support
of aggressive AC97 power-saving mode. In this mode, the AC97
powerdown register bits are dynamically controlled at each open/close
of PCM streams.
The mode is activated via power_save option for snd-ac97-codec
driver. As default it's off. It can be turned on/off on the fly
via sysfs, too.

Sometimes we simply want to turn off or on everything, and when recently a
warning was added when a certain platform function can't be called, this
triggered all the time in those cases. This patch shows the warning only if
the error was different from the function not existing.
The alternative would be to not even try calling the function when it
doesn't exist by first checking which exist and then only calling those that
do, but that adds complexity that isn't necessary.

This patch makes snd-powermac load when it can't bind the device right
away. That's the expected behaviour for hotplugging, but fixes an
important problem I was seeing with doing a modprobe snd-powermac with
a version that refuses loading on machines with layout-id: snd-powermac
would create a bunch of uevents and then refuse to load, the uevents
causing udev to reload it again, ad eternum.

The IRQ rework caused some hiccups here, in some cases we call
get_irq without a device node. This patch makes it catch that
case and return NO_IRQ when it happens, along with changing the
place where the irq is checked to check for NO_IRQ instead of -1.

if one of the first three CS_CHECKS fails, we goto cs_failed:
In this case parse we donr kfree() parse. Since the the last three
CS_CHECKS might also fail, i moved the kfree() below all the CS_CHECKs
and added one in the error path. This fixes coverity bug id #1099

This patch fixes the initialisation and reset of the tas codec. The tas will
often reset if the i2s clocks go away so it needs to be completely
re-initialised when clocks come back.
Also, this patch adds some code for DRC that will be exploited later to add a
DRC control again, fixing a regression over snd-powermac.

There is a code sequence where the locking is substream->self_group.lock
-> ins->scbs[index].lock
substream->self_group.lock is interrupt safe, and taken from irq context
as well (trace is snipped for brevity)
so what can happen is
cpu 0 cpu 1
user context user context
take ins->scbs[index].lock without disabling interrupts
get substream->self_group.lock (irqsafe)
try to get ins->scbs[index].lock (spins)
interrupt happens
try to get substream->self_group.lock (spins)
which is an obvious AB-BA deadlock
fix is to just take the lock with _irqsafe

The ops structure has complex locking rules, where not all ops are equal, some
are subordinate on others for some complex sound cards. This requires for
lockdep checking that each individual reg_mutex is considered in separation
for its locking rules.
Has no effect on non-lockdep kernels.

This adds the new irq remapper core and removes the old one. Because
there are some fundamental conflicts with the old code, like the value
of NO_IRQ which I'm now setting to 0 (as per discussions with Linus),
etc..., this commit also changes the relevant platform and driver code
over to use the new remapper (so as not to cause difficulties later
in bisecting).
This patch removes the old pre-parsing of the open firmware interrupt
tree along with all the bogus assumptions it made to try to renumber
interrupts according to the platform. This is all to be handled by the
new code now.
For the pSeries XICS interrupt controller, a single remapper host is
created for the whole machine regardless of how many interrupt
presentation and source controllers are found, and it's set to match
any device node that isn't a 8259. That works fine on pSeries and
avoids having to deal with some of the complexities of split source
controllers vs. presentation controllers in the pSeries device trees.
The powerpc i8259 PIC driver now always requests the legacy interrupt
range. It also has the feature of being able to match any device node
(including NULL) if passed no device node as an input. That will help
porting over platforms with broken device-trees like Pegasos who don't
have a proper interrupt tree.

The 64 bits resource patches did a bit of damage on PowerMac causing a
buffer overflow in macio_asic and a warning in a sound driver. The
former is fixed by reverting the sprintf of the bus_id to %08x as it was
before. The bus_id used for macio devices is always a 32 bits value
(macio always sits in 32 bits space) and since it's exposed to userland,
the format of the string shouldn't be changed like that anyway. The
second by using the proper type for printk.

Fixed up trivial conflict in drivers/ide/pci/cmd64x.c (the printk that

Apparently some firmware versions forget enabling the dual-edge bit,
snd-powermac did that too and even OSX does sometimes. This should fix
headphone plug detection on those machines.

seq_ports.c::snd_seq_delete_all_ports() uses __list_add() to replace the
whole list entries. This results in BUG() with recent FC5 kernel due to
a sanity check in __list_add().
The patch fixes this misue of __list_add() by using standard macros
instead (although a bit more code is needed).

This patch adds two mixer controls. The V_REFOUT enable is a
documented register that couples the microphone input lines
to the V_REFOUT DC source. The High Pass Filter enable in the
AC97_AD_TEST2 (0x5c) is an undocumented register provided by
Miller Puckette via Analog Devices that enables the AD codec
to apply a high pass filter to the input.

From: Sam Revitch <sam.revitch@gmail.com>Recently a Turtle Beach Audio Advantage Roadie device ended up in my
possession. It seems to work with the snd-usb-audio driver, but only
using the headphone jack in 2-channel mode. The device has a DIN
connector carrying six more channels that are otherwise silent.
C-Media has freely available documentation for the CM106 chip around
which this device is based, and enabling 8-channel output, or
6-channel output with the headphone jack following the front pair is a
matter of setting one of its registers.
Attached is a patch to try to enable 5.1 output mode at probe time.
It seems to work correctly with my device. There is quite list of
other configurables for this device that might deserve controls.

Here's a patch for cs46xx that
- (mostly) cleans up the cs46xx driver according to CodingStyle
- removes a bunch of pointless casts
- fixes a small, potential use of uninitialized variable, bug
- reduces the size of the compiled code by 36 bytes
- reduces the size of the source file by 1831 bytes
I know I should probably have split this into bits, but since I only
thought of that *after* doing all the edits, splitting it up would have
been a royal pain. And since these are all pretty trivial changes I thought
I'd just submit the one huge patch and hope people could live with it (if
not, then just tell me and I'll split it).
The bug fix that's in there may be hard to spot, so I'll point it out. It's
the
- int val, valsave, mapped, ret;
+ int val, valsave, ret;
+ int mapped = 0;
bit.
Without that change we may use `mapped' uninitialized if, in cs_ioctl, the
first test of "if(state)" is false and the second "if(state)" test is true.

This patch removes from snd-powermac the code that check for the layout-id
and instead adds code that makes it refuse loading when a layout-id property
is present, nothing that snd-aoa should be used.
It also removes the 'toonie' codec from snd-powermac which was only ever
used on the mac mini which has a layout-id property.

This large patch adds all of snd-aoa.
Consisting of many modules, it currently replaces snd-powermac
for all layout-id based machines and handles many more (for
example new powerbooks and powermacs with digital output that
previously couldn't be used at all).
It also has support for all layout-IDs that Apple has (judging
from their Info.plist file) but not all are tested.
The driver currently has 2 known regressions over snd-powermac:
* it doesn't handle powermac 7,2 and 7,3
* it doesn't have a DRC control on snapper-based machines
I will fix those during the 2.6.18 development cycle.

Justin Sunseri reports that sound is audible on his Lenovo 3000
N100-07684JU by passing 'model=laptop-eapd' to modprobe, so this
patch adds the pci ids for his sound device to patch_analog.c .
This commit closes LP#39517. Alexey Parshin also confirmed the fix at
http://bugs.gentoo.org/137245
TODO: Mute onboard speakers when device is plugged into the headphone
jack. Muting the 'External Amplifier' mixer element while a device is
plugged into the headphone jack allows sound to be played only from the
headphone jack.

This patch by Rodolfo Giometti disables the AC97 AUX and VIDEO controls
on the WM9705 when the touchscreen is selected as the AUX and VIDEO
lines are shared with the touch controller.

Christian Bjalevik reports in LP#38546 that his sound chipset requires
the 'hp_only' quirk to allow him to control sound volume correctly when
headphones are inserted. This patch adds the appropriate pci id to the
via82xx ALSA driver so that the quirk is applied automatically, thereby
removing the need for users to modify /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base (or to
unload and reload snd-via82xx with ac97_quirk=hp_only).
This patch closes LP#38546.

First testing if a pointer is NULL and if it is (or might be), proceeding
with code that dereferences that same pointer is clearly a mistake.
This happens in sound/isa/sb/sb8_midi.c::snd_sb8dsp_midi_interrupt()
The patch below reworks the code so this unfortunate case doesn't happen.
Also remove some blank comments.
Found by the Coverity checker as bug #367
Patch is compile testted only due to lack of hardware.

Added IEC958 (SPDIF) output support to Thinkpad T/X/Z60 with
AD1981HD codec. The spdif jack is on docking station.

This patch conditions AC97 control creation by whether or not the
codec is an AD18xx codec. This fixes the case where the default control
would get created and then snd_ac97_mixer_build fails out when creation
of ad18xx specific control would get attempted. This problem was found
and debuged by Marcelo Tosatti.

To permit use, in ice1712, of the mpu401 info flags recently added to
mpu401_uart, adds info_flags in snd_ice1712_card_info so that additional
flags can be set, if desired. 'MPU401_INFO_INTEGRATED' is always set with
the ice1712. The flags are passed on to snd_mpu401_uart_new().
_INFO_OUTPUT is set for DMX6fire mpu2.

Change the 5th argument of snd_mpu401_uart_new() to bit flags
instead of a boolean. The argument takes bits that consist of
MPU401_INFO_XXX flags.
The callers that used the value 1 there are replaced with
MPU401_INFO_INTEGRATED.

Enable the support of mpu401 PCI port only when mpu_port=1 module
option is given, i.e. disabled as default.
It turned out that the check of integrated midi port isn't perfect
and caused hang-ups on some boards.

Change the order in vortex_probe to set the card details before creating the
components, meaning for example that card->shortname is available when
registering the midi port.
I have also added extra to card->shortname, and a line to overwrite the midi
name following snd_mpu401_uart_new.

This ugly hack was long overdue to die.
It was a way to print out Sparc interrupts in a more freindly format,
since IRQ numbers were arbitrary opaque 32-bit integers which vectored
into PIL levels. These 32-bit integers were not necessarily in the
0-->NR_IRQS range, but the PILs they vectored to were.
The idea now is that we will increase NR_IRQS a little bit and use a
virtual<-->real IRQ number mapping scheme similar to PowerPC.
That makes this IRQ printing hack irrelevant, and furthermore only a
handful of drivers actually used __irq_itoa() making it even less
useful.

The current HAL2 Kconfig description indicates it is only used on SGI
Indy systems, however all members of the Indigo2 Family have this sound
card as well. Plus a minor grammatical fix is included.

Use DXS_SRC as the default value for dxs_support option for

Move the workaround for the VT8251 up a bit, and check for STAT_EOL
rather than STAT_ACTIVE. This resolves issues some people were having
with certain ALSA clients (and allows the STAT_ACTIVE check to do what
it was intended to do).

I previously only concerned myself with sound/isa. When I now checked
for more platform_device_register_simple() usages in ALSA I found a
couple more drivers that needed the same patches as already submitted
for all the ISA drivers.
This first one is the continue-on-iserr patch for sound/drivers. This
gets them all.

Update the schedule for the removal of drivers depending on
OBSOLETE_OSS_DRIVER as follows:
- adjust OBSOLETE_OSS_DRIVER dependencie
- from the release of 2.6.16 till the release of 2.6.17:
approx. two months for users to report problems with the ALSA
drivers for the same hardware
- after the release of 2.6.17 (and before 2.6.18):
remove the subset of drivers marked at OBSOLETE_OSS_DRIVER without
known regressions in the ALSA drivers for the same hardware
Additionally, correct some OBSOLETE_OSS_DRIVER dependencies.

This fixes a hang in mpu401_uart.c that can occur when the mpu401 interface
is non-existent or otherwise doesn't respond to commands but we issue IO
anyway. snd_mpu401_uart_cmd now returns an error code that is passed up
the stack so that an open() will fail immediately in such cases.
Eventually discovered after wine/cxoffice would constantly cause hard
lockups on my desktop immediately after loading (emulating Windows too
well). Turned out that I'd recently moved my sound cards around and using
/dev/sequencer now talks to a sound card with a broken MPU.
This second version changes -EFAULT to -EIO and frees open resources on
error too. Test booted and seems to work ok.

Removed all use of __devinit/__devexit and init.h from headers. Any
attributes given in the prototype but not in the function definition have
been moved to the definition.
An exception is vortex_eq_free: I removed the __devexit attribute because
vortex_eq_free is called from vortex_core_shutdown, and
vortex_core_shutdown may be called from __devinit snd_vortex_create.
Compile tested with allyesconfig and allmodconfig.

This patch adds a mixer control which allows the user to switch the Aux
playback between the internal Aux jack, Wavetable, and Rear Line-In on
Aureon Universe cards.
For switching, a PCA9554 (8-line GPIO with I2C interface) and a 74HC4052
(dual 4-way mux/demux) are used. Output 0 and 1 of the PCA9554 are
connected to the select pins of the 74HC4052. The I2C interface of the
PCA9554 is connected to the card's internal SPI bus which is also used
to control the WM8770 and CS8415. SPI and I2C on the same lines...
To communicate with the PCA9554 the WM8770 and CS8415 are disabled and
an I2C Stop Condition is generated before the Start Condition (needed
for synchronisation because other SPI traffic appear to confuse the
PCA9554). Then a normal I2C data transfer takes place. Programming must
be done ridiculously slow; in theory, 4.7us is the minimum delay time
for normal-speed I2C according to the datasheet, but even with 10us
switching was unreliable. The Windows driver from Terratec does the
programming very slowly, too (checked with an oscilloscope).

On a new board revision for pcxhr boards, the
PCXHR_CHIPSC_GPI_USERI bit is no more supported.
The cards concerned have a REV01 in their PCI ID.
As the current driver tests this bit and does not load the
first Xilinx binary when it's 1, the card will crash on Xilinx
access over PCI. (the PCI will freeze ....)
The fix (fix to version 1.0.11rc4) works for both REV00 and
REV01 cards.

process_unsol_events() seems to assume a singlethread one (IOW, racey).
So, this patch uses create_singlethread_workqueue() instead of
create_workqueue().

Test the volume of usb audio whether actually it works and adjusts
the resolution value according to it.
Some USB audio devices report a lower resolution than it reacts.
The only possible check is to write and read a volume value.

The following patch relative to CVS from 20060324 adds the following
features to the Realtek HDA codec.
1) Define two new pin modes: ALC_PIN_DIR_IN_NOMICBIAS and
ALC_PIN_DIR_INOUT_NOMICBIAS. These can be used with jack mode switch
definitions in mixers to prevent the user being offered the mic bias
options if the hardware doesn't support it.
2) Add the ability to have different input mux definitions for different
ADCs. This is needed because the ALC260 chip uses different mux layouts
for the two onboard ADCs. A new field (num_mux_defs) was added to the
alc_spec and alc_config_preset structures to support this.
3) Adjust numerous comments to make them consistent with the above changes.
4) Utilise the new multi-mux definition functionality for the ALC260 fujitsu
model to allow recording of the mixer output.
5) Utilise the new multi-mux definition functionality for the ALC260 test
model to make the mux selections a little less confusing.
6) Allow the headphone jack of the ALC260 acer model to be retasked in
the mixer.

At this stage the *_NOMICBIAS modes are not used. We have reports that the
"Line" jack of at least some Acer models doesn't pass the bias out, and we
also know that NIDs 0x0f and 0x10 don't seem to accept the mic bias requests
at all. However, I feel we need to collect more evidence on both counts
before committing to the use of *_NOMICBIAS. In the case of the Acers, it's
not clear whether this issue (probably caused by the inclusion of DC
blocking capacitors) affects all Acer models or just a small number. With
the issue with NIDs 0x0f and 0x10 it's unclear whether this is a hardware
bug which will be addressed in later chip revisions or if it's an
intentional restriction. The datasheet makes no mention of the restriction
so at this stage I'm inclined to consider it a hardware bug. Comments in
the source reflect this reasoning.
On a similar theme, the headphone jack of the Fujitsu S7020 also doesn't
appear to pass mic bias voltage. I'm still investigating this however.
With the ability to retask the headphone jack, owners of ALC260-based Acer
laptops should now be able to record 4 channels of audio if they desire. The
multiple mux definitions allow this jack to be presented from both ADCs
(since this mux input is one of those which differs between the muxes).
This patch has been tested on a Fujitsu S7020 laptop and appears to behave
itself both for the "test" and "fujitsu" models. Definitions using only a
single mux specification also work. Other ALC chips should be fine but I
cannot test these myself. The "auto" modes should also continue to function
but again I have not verified this.

Attached you'll find an ALSA driver for AdLib FM cards. An AdLib card is
just an OPL2, which was already supported by sound/drivers/opl3, so only
very minimal bus-glue is needed. The patch applies cleanly to both
2.6.16 and 2.6.16-mm1.
The driver has been tested with an actual ancient 8-bit ISA AdLib card
and works fine. It also works fine for an OPL3 {,emulation} as still
found on many ISA soundcards but given that AdLib cards don't have their
own mixer, upping the volume from 0 might be a problem without the card
driver already loaded and driving the OPL3.

I have just discovered I made an error in the register value set in 'Limit
dmx6fire to 6 dacs' patch (bug1472). The value set should be '2a' not '0a'
as in the original patch, which unintentionally disables the 2nd MPU 401
UART.

Instead of the two status values struct pcmcia_device->p_state and state,
use descriptive bitfields. Most value-checking in drivers was invalid, as
the core now only calls the ->remove() (a.k.a. detach) function in case the
attachement _and_ configuration was successful.

Most of the driver initialization isn't done in the .probe function, but in
the internal _config() functions. Make them return a value, so that .probe
can properly report whether the probing of the device succeeded or not.

In all but one case, the suspend and resume functions of PCMCIA drivers
contain mostly of calls to pcmcia_release_configuration() and
pcmcia_request_configuration(). Therefore, move this code out of the
drivers and into the core.

pcmcia_disable_device(struct pcmcia_device *p_dev) performs the necessary
cleanups upon device or driver removal: it calls the appropriate
pcmcia_release_* functions, and can replace (most) of the current drivers'
_release() functions.

This removes statically assigned platform numbers and reworks the
powerpc platform probe code to use a better mechanism. With this,
board support files can simply declare a new machine type with a
macro, and implement a probe() function that uses the flattened
device-tree to detect if they apply for a given machine.
We now have a machine_is() macro that replaces the comparisons of
_machine with the various PLATFORM_* constants. This commit also
changes various drivers to use the new macro instead of looking at
_machine.
