Marc Eshel 1a8322b2b0 lockd: add code to handle deferred lock requests
Rewrite nlmsvc_lock() to use the asynchronous interface.

As with testlock, we answer nlm requests in nlmsvc_lock by first looking up
the block and then using the results we find in the block if B_QUEUED is
set, and calling vfs_lock_file() otherwise.

If this a new lock request and we get -EINPROGRESS return on a non-blocking
request then we defer the request.

Also modify nlmsvc_unlock() to call the filesystem method if appropriate.

Marc Eshel f812048020 lockd: always preallocate block in nlmsvc_lock()
Normally we could skip ever having to allocate a block in the case where
the client asks for a non-blocking lock, or asks for a blocking lock that
succeeds immediately.

However we're going to want to always look up a block first in order to
check whether we're revisiting a deferred lock call, and to be prepared to
handle the case where the filesystem returns -EINPROGRESS--in that case we
want to make sure the lock we've given the filesystem is the one embedded
in the block that we'll use to track the deferred request.

Marc Eshel 5ea0d75037 lockd: handle test_lock deferrals
Rewrite nlmsvc_testlock() to use the new asynchronous interface: instead of
immediately doing a posix_test_lock(), we first look for a matching block.
If the subsequent test_lock returns anything other than -EINPROGRESS, we
then remove the block we've found and return the results.

If it returns -EINPROGRESS, then we defer the lock request.

In the case where the block we find in the first step has B_QUEUED set,
we bypass the vfs_test_lock entirely, instead using the block to decide how
to respond:
with nlm_lck_denied if B_TIMED_OUT is set.
with nlm_granted if B_GOT_CALLBACK is set.
by dropping if neither B_TIMED_OUT nor B_GOT_CALLBACK is set

Marc Eshel 2b36f412ab lockd: save lock state on deferral
We need to keep some state for a pending asynchronous lock request, so this
patch adds that state to struct nlm_block.

This also adds a function which defers the request, by calling
rqstp->rq_chandle.defer and storing the resulting deferred request in a
nlm_block structure which we insert into lockd's global block list. That
new function isn't called yet, so it's dead code until a later patch.

Marc Eshel 150b393456 locks: allow {vfs,posix}_lock_file to return conflicting lock
The nfsv4 protocol's lock operation, in the case of a conflict, returns
information about the conflicting lock.

It's unclear how clients can use this, so for now we're not going so far as to
add a filesystem method that can return a conflicting lock, but we may as well
return something in the local case when it's easy to.

Chuck Lever 2bea90d43a SUNRPC: RPC buffer size estimates are too large
The RPC buffer size estimation logic in net/sunrpc/clnt.c always
significantly overestimates the requirements for the buffer size.
A little instrumentation demonstrated that in fact rpc_malloc was never
allocating the buffer from the mempool, but almost always called kmalloc.

To compute the size of the RPC buffer more precisely, split p_bufsiz into
two fields; one for the argument size, and one for the result size.

Then, compute the sum of the exact call and reply header sizes, and split
the RPC buffer precisely between the two. That should keep almost all RPC
buffers within the 2KiB buffer mempool limit.

And, we can finally be rid of RPC_SLACK_SPACE!

Chuck Lever 511d2e8855 NLM: Shrink the maximum request size of NLM4 requests
NLM version 4 requests estimate the call and reply header sizes rather
conservatively, using the very maximum size allowed in the protocol even
though Linux always uses only a small fraction of the allowable space.

Reduce the size of caller and lock arguments to conserve RPC buffer space
while XDR encoding NLM4 arguments. Add compile-time checks to ensure the
hostname string won't overflow NLM protocol maximums.

Eric W. Biederman 0b4d414714 [PATCH] sysctl: remove insert_at_head from register_sysctl
The semantic effect of insert_at_head is that it would allow new registered
sysctl entries to override existing sysctl entries of the same name. Which is
pain for caching and the proc interface never implemented.

I have done an audit and discovered that none of the current users of
register_sysctl care as (excpet for directories) they do not register
duplicate sysctl entries.

So this patch simply removes the support for overriding existing entries in
the sys_sysctl interface since no one uses it or cares and it makes future
enhancments harder.

Tim Schmielau cd354f1ae7 [PATCH] remove many unneeded #includes of sched.h
After Al Viro (finally) succeeded in removing the sched.h #include in module.h
recently, it makes sense again to remove other superfluous sched.h includes.
There are quite a lot of files which include it but don't actually need
anything defined in there. Presumably these includes were once needed for
macros that used to live in sched.h, but moved to other header files in the
course of cleaning it up.

To ease the pain, this time I did not fiddle with any header files and only
removed #includes from .c-files, which tend to cause less trouble.

Compile tested against 2.6.20-rc2 and 2.6.20-rc2-mm2 (with offsets) on alpha,
arm, i386, ia64, mips, powerpc, and x86_64 with allnoconfig, defconfig,
allmodconfig, and allyesconfig as well as a few randconfigs on x86_64 and all
configs in arch/arm/configs on arm. I also checked that no new warnings were
introduced by the patch (actually, some warnings are removed that were emitted
by unnecessarily included header files).

NeilBrown d343fce148 [PATCH] knfsd: Allow lockd to drop replies as appropriate
It is possible for the ->fopen callback from lockd into nfsd to find that an
answer cannot be given straight away (an upcall is needed) and so the request
has to be 'dropped', to be retried later. That error status is not currently
propagated back.

So:
Change nlm_fopen to return nlm error codes (rather than a private
protocol) and define a new nlm_drop_reply code.
Cause nlm_drop_reply to cause the rpc request to get rpc_drop_reply
  when this error comes back.
Cause svc_process to drop a request which returns a status of

NeilBrown 4481d1038f [PATCH] knfsd: Fix bug in recent lockd patches that can cause reclaim to fail
When an nfs server shuts down, lockd needs to release all the locks even
though the client still holds them.

It should therefore not 'unmonitor' the clients, so that the files in nfs/sm
will still be there when the nfs server restarts, so that those clients will
be told to reclaim their locks.

However the hosts are fully unmonitored, so statd may well remove the files.

lockd has a test for 'sm_sticky' and avoid the unmonitor call if it is set,
but it is currently not set.

So set it when tearing down lockd.

Olaf Kirch 0ade060ee5 [PATCH] knfsd: lockd: fix use of h_nextrebind
nlmclnt_recovery would try to force a portmap rebind by setting
host->h_nextrebind to 0. The right thing to do here is to set it to the
current time.

Olaf Kirch 460f5cac1e [PATCH] knfsd: export nsm_local_state to user space via sysctl
Every NLM call includes the client's NSM state. Currently, the Linux client
always reports 0 - which seems not to cause any problems, but is not what the
protocol says.

This patch exposes the kernel's internal variable to user space via a sysctl,
which can be set at system boot time by statd.

Olaf Kirch 39be4502cb [PATCH] knfsd: match GRANTED_RES replies using cookies
When we send a GRANTED_MSG call, we current copy the NLM cookie provided in
the original LOCK call - because in 1996, some broken clients seemed to rely
on this bug. However, this means the cookies are not unique, so that when the
client's GRANTED_RES message comes back, we cannot simply match it based on
the cookie, but have to use the client's IP address in addition. Which breaks
when you have a multi-homed NFS client.

The X/Open spec explicitly mentions that clients should not expect the same
cookie; so one may hope that any clients that were broken in 1996 have either
been fixed or rendered obsolete.

Olaf Kirch abd1f50094 [PATCH] knfsd: lockd: optionally use hostnames for identifying peers
This patch adds the nsm_use_hostnames sysctl and module param. If set, lockd
will use the client's name (as given in the NLM arguments) to find the NSM
handle. This makes recovery work when the NFS peer is multi-homed, and the
reboot notification arrives from a different IP than the original lock calls.

NeilBrown 350fce8dbf [PATCH] knfsd: simplify nlmsvc_invalidate_all
As a result of previous patches, the loop in nlmsvc_invalidate_all just sets
h_expires for all client/hosts to 0 (though does it in a very complicated
way).

This was possibly meant to trigger early garbage collection but half the time
'0' is in the future and so it infact delays garbage collection.

Pre-aging the 'hosts' is not really needed at this point anyway so we throw
out the loop and nlm_find_client which is no longer needed.

Olaf Kirch f2af793db0 [PATCH] knfsd: lockd: make nlm_traverse_* more flexible
This patch makes nlm_traverse{locks,blocks,shares} and friends use a function
pointer rather than a "action" enum.

This function pointer is given two nlm_hosts (one given by the caller, the
other taken from the lock/block/share currently visited), and is free to do
with them as it wants. If it returns a non-zero value, the lockd/block/share
is released.
