Rene Herman 16d7523973 thermal: Create CONFIG_THERMAL_HWMON=n
A bug in libsensors <= 2.10.6 is exposed
when this new hwmon I/F is enabled.
Create CONFIG_THERMAL_HWMON=n
until some time after libsensors 2.10.7 ships
so those users can run the latest kernel.

libsensors 3.x is already fixed -- those users
can use CONFIG_THERMAL_HWMON=y now.

Pavel Emelyanov 5cd204550b Deprecate find_task_by_pid()
There are some places that are known to operate on tasks'
global pids only:

* the rest_init() call (called on boot)
* the kgdb's getthread
* the create_kthread() (since the kthread is run in init ns)

So use the find_task_by_pid_ns(..., &init_pid_ns) there
and schedule the find_task_by_pid for removal.

Mark Fasheh 52f7c21b61 ocfs2: Move /sys/o2cb to /sys/fs/o2cb
/sys/fs is where we really want file system specific sysfs objects.

Ocfs2-tools has been updated to look in /sys/fs/o2cb. We can maintain
backwards compatibility with old ocfs2-tools by using a sysfs symlink. After
some time (2 years), the symlink can be safely removed. This patch also adds
documentation to make it easier for people to figure out what /sys/fs/o2cb
is used for.

Stefano Brivio c21b39aca4 mac80211: make PID rate control algorithm the default
This makes the new PID TX rate control algorithm the default instead of the
rc80211_simple rate control algorithm. The simple algorithm was flawed in
several ways: it wasn't responsive at all and didn't age the information it was
relying on properly. The PID algorithm allows us to tune characteristics such
as responsiveness by adjusting parameters and was found to generally behave
better.

The default algorithm can be overridden to select simple instead. Which
ever algorithm is the default is included as part of the mac80211
module automatically. The other algorithm (simple vs. pid) can
be selected for inclusion as well. If EMBEDDED is selected then
the choice is available to have no default specified and neither
algorithm included in mac80211. The default algorithm can be set
through a modparam.

While at it, mark rc80211-simple as deprecated, and schedule it
for removal.

Eric W. Biederman 7058cb02dd sysctl: deprecate sys_sysctl in a user space visible fashion.
After adding checking to register_sysctl_table and finding a whole new set
of bugs. Missed by countless code reviews and testers I have finally lost
patience with the binary sysctl interface.

The binary sysctl interface has been sort of deprecated for years and
finding a user space program that uses the syscall is more difficult then
finding a needle in a haystack. Problems continue to crop up, with the in
kernel implementation. So since supporting something that no one uses is
silly, deprecate sys_sysctl with a sufficient grace period and notice that
the handful of user space applications that care can be fixed or replaced.

The /proc/sys sysctl interface that people use will continue to be
supported indefinitely.

This patch moves the tested warning about sysctls from the path where
sys_sysctl to a separate path called from both implementations of
sys_sysctl, and it adds a proper entry into
Documentation/feature-removal-schedule.

Allowing us to revisit this in a couple years time and actually kill
sys_sysctl.

Andi Kleen 8e9073ed02 Deprecate a.out ELF interpreters
The Linux ELF loader is quite complicated and messy code (that could
probably need a rewrite, but that's a different chapter). One particular
messy part in it is the support for non ELF a.out ld.sos. This was
originally added to make transition from a.out to ELF easier because an
a.out ELF ld.so could be still build using an older a.out toolkit. But by
now that should be fully obsolete and removing it would clean up
binfmt_elf.c up a bit.

I propose to deprecate this support and remove for 2.6.25.

Drawback is that someone still runs their system with a.out ld.so
they would need to update the ld.so when updating to a new kernel.

This patch just adds an entry to the deprecation file and a printk
warning users.
