Ingo Molnar 5b825c3af1 sched/headers: Prepare to remove <linux/cred.h> inclusion from <linux/sched.h>
Add #include <linux/cred.h> dependencies to all .c files rely on sched.h
doing that for them.

Note that even if the count where we need to add extra headers seems high,
it's still a net win, because <linux/sched.h> is included in over
2,200 files ...

Linus Torvalds 7c0f6ba682 Replace <asm/uaccess.h> with <linux/uaccess.h> globally
This was entirely automated, using the script by Al:

  PATT='^[[:blank:]]*#[[:blank:]]*include[[:blank:]]*<asm/uaccess.h>'
  sed -i -e "s!$PATT!#include <linux/uaccess.h>!" \
        $(git grep -l "$PATT"|grep -v ^include/linux/uaccess.h)

to do the replacement at the end of the merge window.

Alexey Dobriyan 81243eacfa cred: simpler, 1D supplementary groups
Current supplementary groups code can massively overallocate memory and
is implemented in a way so that access to individual gid is done via 2D
array.

If number of gids is <= 32, memory allocation is more or less tolerable
(140/148 bytes). But if it is not, code allocates full page (!)
regardless and, what's even more fun, doesn't reuse small 32-entry
array.

2D array means dependent shifts, loads and LEAs without possibility to
optimize them (gid is never known at compile time).

All of the above is unnecessary. Switch to the usual
trailing-zero-len-array scheme. Memory is allocated with
kmalloc/vmalloc() and only as much as needed. Accesses become simpler
(LEA 8(gi,idx,4) or even without displacement).

Maximum number of gids is 65536 which translates to 256KB+8 bytes. I
think kernel can handle such allocation.

On my usual desktop system with whole 9 (nine) aux groups, struct
group_info shrinks from 148 bytes to 44 bytes, yay!

Nice side effects:

 - "gi->gid[i]" is shorter than "GROUP_AT(gi, i)", less typing,

 - fix little mess in net/ipv4/ping.c
   should have been using GROUP_AT macro but this point becomes moot,

 - aux group allocation is persistent and should be accounted as such.

Eric W. Biederman 7ff4d90b4c groups: Consolidate the setgroups permission checks
Today there are 3 instances of setgroups and due to an oversight their
permission checking has diverged. Add a common function so that
they may all share the same permission checking code.

This corrects the current oversight in the current permission checks
and adds a helper to avoid this in the future.

A user namespace security fix will update this new helper, shortly.

Eric W. Biederman c7b96acf14 userns: Kill nsown_capable it makes the wrong thing easy
nsown_capable is a special case of ns_capable essentially for just CAP_SETUID and
CAP_SETGID. For the existing users it doesn't noticably simplify things and
from the suggested patches I have seen it encourages people to do the wrong
thing.  So remove nsown_capable.

Eric W. Biederman ae2975bc34 userns: Convert group_info values from gid_t to kgid_t.
As a first step to converting struct cred to be all kuid_t and kgid_t
values convert the group values stored in group_info to always be
kgid_t values. Unless user namespaces are used this change should
have no effect.

Serge E. Hallyn b0e77598f8 userns: user namespaces: convert several capable() calls
CAP_IPC_OWNER and CAP_IPC_LOCK can be checked against current_user_ns(),
because the resource comes from current's own ipc namespace.

setuid/setgid are to uids in own namespace, so again checks can be against
current_user_ns().

Changelog:
	Jan 11: Use task_ns_capable() in place of sched_capable().
	Jan 11: Use nsown_capable() as suggested by Bastian Blank.
	Jan 11: Clarify (hopefully) some logic in futex and sched.c
	Feb 15: use ns_capable for ipc, not nsown_capable
	Feb 23: let copy_ipcs handle setting ipc_ns->user_ns
	Feb 23: pass ns down rather than taking it from current

Alexey Dobriyan 2bcd57ab61 headers: utsname.h redux
* remove asm/atomic.h inclusion from linux/utsname.h --
   not needed after kref conversion
 * remove linux/utsname.h inclusion from files which do not need it

NOTE: it looks like fs/binfmt_elf.c do not need utsname.h, however
due to some personality stuff it _is_ needed -- cowardly leave ELF-related
headers and files alone.

Roland McGrath 54a0151041 asmlinkage_protect replaces prevent_tail_call
The prevent_tail_call() macro works around the problem of the compiler
clobbering argument words on the stack, which for asmlinkage functions
is the caller's (user's) struct pt_regs.  The tail/sibling-call
optimization is not the only way that the compiler can decide to use
stack argument words as scratch space, which we have to prevent.
Other optimizations can do it too.

Until we have new compiler support to make "asmlinkage" binding on the
compiler's own use of the stack argument frame, we have work around all
the manifestations of this issue that crop up.

More cases seem to be prevented by also keeping the incoming argument
variables live at the end of the function. This makes their original
stack slots attractive places to leave those variables, so the compiler
tends not clobber them for something else. It's still no guarantee, but
it handles some observed cases that prevent_tail_call() did not.

Linus Torvalds 1da177e4c3 Linux-2.6.12-rc2
Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history,
even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git
archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about
3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early
git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good
infrastructure for it.

Let it rip!
