Dmitry Torokhov 1d64b655dc Input: serio/gameport - use 'long' system workqueue
Commit 8ee294cd9d converted serio
subsystem event handling from using a dedicated thread to using
common workqueue. Unfortunately, this regressed our boot times,
due to the fact that serio jobs take long time to execute. While
the new concurrency managed workqueue code manages long-playing
works just fine and schedules additional workers as needed, such
works wreck havoc among remaining users of flush_scheduled_work().

To solve this problem let's move serio/gameport works from system_wq
to system_long_wq which nobody tries to flush.

Duncan Laurie 19e9554153 Input: serio - clear pending rescans after sysfs driver rebind
When rebinding a serio driver via sysfs drvctl interface it is
possible for an interrupt to trigger after the disconnect of the
existing driver and before the binding of the new driver. This will
cause the serio interrupt handler to queue a rescan event which will
disconnect the new driver immediately after it is attached.

This change removes pending rescans from the serio event queue after
processing the drvctl request but before releasing the serio mutex.

Reproduction involves issuing a rebind of device port from psmouse
driver to serio_raw driver while generating input to trigger
interrupts. Then checking to see if the corresponding
i8042/serio4/driver is correctly attached to the serio_raw driver
instead of psmouse.

David Rientjes 6a108a14fa kconfig: rename CONFIG_EMBEDDED to CONFIG_EXPERT
The meaning of CONFIG_EMBEDDED has long since been obsoleted; the option
is used to configure any non-standard kernel with a much larger scope than
only small devices.

This patch renames the option to CONFIG_EXPERT in init/Kconfig and fixes
references to the option throughout the kernel. A new CONFIG_EMBEDDED
option is added that automatically selects CONFIG_EXPERT when enabled and
can be used in the future to isolate options that should only be
considered for embedded systems (RISC architectures, SLOB, etc).

Calling the option "EXPERT" more accurately represents its intention: only
expert users who understand the impact of the configuration changes they
are making should enable it.

Jesper Juhl 39de52104d Input: serio HIL MLC - don't deref null, don't leak and return proper error
While reviewing various users of kernel memory allocation functions I came
across drivers/input/serio/hil_mlc.c::hil_mlc_register() and noticed that:

 - it calls kzalloc() but fails to check for a NULL return before use.
 - it makes several allocations and if one fails it doesn't free the
   previous ones.
 - It doesn't return -ENOMEM in the failed memory allocation case (it just
   crashes).

This patch corrects all of the above and also reworks the only caller of
this function that I could find
(drivers/input/serio/hp_sdc_mlc.c::hp_sdc_mlc_out()) so that it now checks
the return value of hil_mlc_register() and properly propagates it on
failure and I also restructured the code to remove some labels and goto's
to make it, IMHO nicer to read.

Arnd Bergmann 6038f373a3 llseek: automatically add .llseek fop
All file_operations should get a .llseek operation so we can make
nonseekable_open the default for future file operations without a
.llseek pointer.

The three cases that we can automatically detect are no_llseek, seq_lseek
and default_llseek. For cases where we can we can automatically prove that
the file offset is always ignored, we use noop_llseek, which maintains
the current behavior of not returning an error from a seek.

New drivers should normally not use noop_llseek but instead use no_llseek
and call nonseekable_open at open time. Existing drivers can be converted
to do the same when the maintainer knows for certain that no user code
relies on calling seek on the device file.

The generated code is often incorrectly indented and right now contains
comments that clarify for each added line why a specific variant was
chosen. In the version that gets submitted upstream, the comments will
be gone and I will manually fix the indentation, because there does not
seem to be a way to do that using coccinelle.

Some amount of new code is currently sitting in linux-next that should get
the same modifications, which I will do at the end of the merge window.

Many thanks to Julia Lawall for helping me learn to write a semantic
patch that does all this.

TAMUKI Shoichi c7ff0d9c92 panic: keep blinking in spite of long spin timer mode
To keep panic_timeout accuracy when running under a hypervisor, the
current implementation only spins on long time (1 second) calls to mdelay.
That brings a good effect, but the problem is the keyboard LEDs don't
blink at all on that situation.

This patch changes to call to panic_blink_enter() between every mdelay and
keeps blinking in spite of long spin timer mode.

The time to call to mdelay is now 100ms. Even this change will keep
panic_timeout accuracy enough when running under a hypervisor.

Grant Likely 1ab1d63a85 of/platform: remove all of_bus_type and of_platform_bus_type references
Both of_bus_type and of_platform_bus_type are just #define aliases
for the platform bus. This patch removes all references to them and
switches to the of_register_platform_driver()/of_unregister_platform_driver()
API for registering.

Subsequent patches will convert each user of of_register_platform_driver()
into plain platform_drivers without the of_platform_driver shim. At which
point the of_register_platform_driver()/of_unregister_platform_driver()
functions can be removed.

Grant Likely 1636f8ac2b sparc/of: Move of_device fields into struct pdev_archdata
This patch moves SPARC architecture specific data members out of
struct of_device and into the pdev_archdata structure. The reason
for this change is to unify the struct of_device definition amongst
all the architectures. It also remvoes the .sysdata, .slot, .portid
and .clock_freq properties because they aren't actually used by
anything.

A subsequent patch will replace struct of_device entirely with struct
platform_device and the of_platform support code will share common
routines with the platform bus (but the bus instances themselves can
remain separate).

This patch also adds 'struct resources *resource' and num_resources
to match the fields defined in struct platform_device. After this
change, 'struct platform_device' can be used as a drop-in replacement
for 'struct of_platform'.

This change is in preparation for merging the of_platform_bus_type
with the platform_bus_type.

Janusz Krzysztofik 29453932d8 input: serio: add support for Amstrad Delta serial keyboardport
The patch introduces a serio driver that supports a keyboard serial port found
on the Amstrad Delta videophone board.

After initializing the hardware, the driver reads its input data from a buffer
filled in by the board FIQ (Fast Interrupt Request) handler.

Standard AT keyboard driver (atkbd) will be used on top of the serio layer for
handling the E3 keyboard (called mailboard) connected to the port. Since the
device generated scancodes differ from what the atkbd expects, a custom key
code to scan code table must be loaded from userspace for the keyboard to be
useable.

Tejun Heo 5a0e3ad6af include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h
percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being
included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which
in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files
universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies.

percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for
this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those
headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion
needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is
used as the basis of conversion.

  http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py

The script does the followings.

* Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that
only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used,
gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h.

* When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include
blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms
to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains
core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered -
alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there
doesn't seem to be any matching order.

* If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly
because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out
an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the
  file.

The conversion was done in the following steps.

1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly
over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h
and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400
   files.

2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion,
some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or
embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added
   inclusions to around 150 files.

3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits
from #2 to make sure no file was left behind.

4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed.
   e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab
APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually.

5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically
editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h
files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h
inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually
wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each
slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as
   necessary.

6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h.

7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures
were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my
distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few
more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things
build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq).

   * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config.
   * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig
   * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig
   * ia64 SMP allmodconfig
   * s390 SMP allmodconfig
   * alpha SMP allmodconfig
   * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig

8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as
a separate patch and serve as bisection point.

Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step
6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch.
If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch
headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of
the specific arch.

Dmitry Torokhov 181d683d75 Input: libps2 - additional locking for i8042 ports
The serio ports on i8042 are not completely isolated; while we provide
enough locking to ensure proper serialization when accessing control
and data registers AUX and KBD ports can still have an effect on each
other on PS/2 protocol level. The most prominent effect is that
issuing a command for the device connected to one port may cause
abort of the command currently executing by the device connected to
another port.

Since i8042 nor serio subsystem are not aware of the details of the
PS/2 protocol (length of the commands and their replies and so on) the
locking should be done on libps2 level by adding special handling when
we see that we are dealing with serio port on i8042.

Ever since we switched from having a polling timer to registering IRQ

Dmitry Torokhov 1c7827ae70 Input: i8042 - bypass AUX IRQ delivery test on laptops
It seems that many laptops do not fully implement AUX LOOP command in
their keyboard controllers, causing issues with touchpad detection.
We know however that almost every laptop/portable uses a PS/2 pointing
device and, even if user disables it in favor of an external mouse,
the system will not use IRQ 12 for anything else. Therefore we may
bypass AUX IRQ delivery test when running on a laptop and assume that
it is routed properly.

Just to be safe we require the box to have good PNP data in order to
bypass the test.

Linus Walleij dc890c2dcd [ARM] 5544/1: Trust PrimeCell resource sizes
I found the PrimeCell/AMBA Bus drivers distrusting the resource
passed in as part of the struct amba_device abstraction. This
patch removes all hard coded resource sizes found in the PrimeCell
drivers and move the responsibility of this definition back to
the platform/board device definition, which already exist and
appear to be correct for all in-tree users of these drivers.
We do this using the resource_size() inline function which was
also replicated in the only driver using the resource size, so
that has been changed too. The KMI_SIZE was left in kmi.h in case
someone likes it. Test-compiled against Versatile and Integrator
defconfigs, seems to work but I don't posess these boards and
cannot test them.
