Jeff Layton ee13b2ba74 cifs: fix the format specifiers in sid_to_str
The format specifiers are for signed values, but these are unsigned.
Given that '-' is a delimiter between fields, I don't think you'd get
what you'd expect if you got a value here that would overflow the sign
bit.

The version and authority fields are 8 bit values so use a "hh" length
modifier there. The subauths are 32 bit values, so there's no need to
use a "l" length modifier there.

Jeff Layton 30c9d6cca5 cifs: redefine NUM_SUBAUTH constant from 5 to 15
According to several places on the Internet and the samba winbind code,
this is hard limited to 15 in windows, not 5. This does balloon out
the allocation of each by 40 bytes, but I don't see any alternative.

Also, rename it to SID_MAX_SUB_AUTHORITIES to match the alleged name
of this constant in the windows header files

Finally, rename SIDLEN to SID_STRING_MAX, fix the value to reflect
the change to SID_MAX_SUB_AUTHORITIES and document how it was
determined.

Steve French 81bcd8b795 default authentication needs to be at least ntlmv2 security for cifs mounts
We had planned to upgrade to ntlmv2 security a few releases ago,
and have been warning users in dmesg on mount about the impending
upgrade, but had to make a change (to use nltmssp with ntlmv2) due
to testing issues with some non-Windows, non-Samba servers.

The approach in this patch is simpler than earlier patches,
and changes the default authentication mechanism to ntlmv2
password hashes (encapsulated in ntlmssp) from ntlm (ntlm is
too weak for current use and ntlmv2 has been broadly
supported for many, many years).

Jeff Layton 3a98b86143 cifs: fix writeback race with file that is growing
Commit eddb079deb created a regression in the writepages codepath.
Previously, whenever it needed to check the size of the file, it did so
by consulting the inode->i_size field directly. With that patch, the
i_size was fetched once on entry into the writepages code and that value
was used henceforth.

If the file is changing size though (for instance, if someone is writing
to it or has truncated it), then that value is likely to be wrong. This
can lead to data corruption. Pages past the EOF at the time that the
writepages call was issued may be silently dropped and ignored because
cifs_writepages wrongly assumes that the file must have been truncated
in the interim.

Fix cifs_writepages to properly fetch the size from the inode->i_size
field instead to properly account for this possibility.

Jeff Layton 36960e440c cifs: fix potential buffer overrun in cifs.idmap handling code
The userspace cifs.idmap program generally works with the wbclient libs
to generate binary SIDs in userspace. That program defines the struct
that holds these values as having a max of 15 subauthorities. The kernel
idmapping code however limits that value to 5.

When the kernel copies those values around though, it doesn't sanity
check the num_subauths value handed back from userspace or from the
server. It's possible therefore for userspace to hand us back a bogus
num_subauths value (or one that's valid, but greater than 5) that could
cause the kernel to walk off the end of the cifs_sid->sub_auths array.

Fix this by defining a new routine for copying sids and using that in
all of the places that copy it. If we end up with a sid that's longer
than expected then this approach will just lop off the "extra" subauths,
but that's basically what the code does today already. Better approaches
might be to fix this code to reject SIDs with >5 subauths, or fix it
to handle the subauths array dynamically.

At the same time, change the kernel to check the length of the data
returned by userspace. If it's shorter than struct cifs_sid, reject it
and return -EIO. If that happens we'll end up with fields that are
basically uninitialized.

Long term, it might make sense to redefine cifs_sid using a flexarray at
the end, to allow for variable-length subauth lists, and teach the code
to handle the case where the subauths array being passed in from
userspace is shorter than 5 elements.

Note too, that I don't consider this a security issue since you'd need
a compromised cifs.idmap program. If you have that, you can do all sorts
of nefarious stuff. Still, this is probably reasonable for stable.

David Howells cf7f601c06 KEYS: Add payload preparsing opportunity prior to key instantiate or update
Give the key type the opportunity to preparse the payload prior to the
instantiation and update routines being called. This is done with the
provision of two new key type operations:

	int (*preparse)(struct key_preparsed_payload *prep);
	void (*free_preparse)(struct key_preparsed_payload *prep);

If the first operation is present, then it is called before key creation (in
the add/update case) or before the key semaphore is taken (in the update and
instantiate cases). The second operation is called to clean up if the first
was called.

preparse() is given the opportunity to fill in the following structure:

	struct key_preparsed_payload {
		char		*description;
		void		*type_data[2];
		void		*payload;
		const void	*data;
		size_t		datalen;
		size_t		quotalen;
	};

Before the preparser is called, the first three fields will have been cleared,
the payload pointer and size will be stored in data and datalen and the default
quota size from the key_type struct will be stored into quotalen.

The preparser may parse the payload in any way it likes and may store data in
the type_data[] and payload fields for use by the instantiate() and update()
ops.

The preparser may also propose a description for the key by attaching it as a
string to the description field. This can be used by passing a NULL or ""
description to the add_key() system call or the key_create_or_update()
function. This cannot work with request_key() as that required the description
to tell the upcall about the key to be created.

This, for example permits keys that store PGP public keys to generate their own
name from the user ID and public key fingerprint in the key.

The instantiate() and update() operations are then modified to look like this:

	int (*instantiate)(struct key *key, struct key_preparsed_payload *prep);
	int (*update)(struct key *key, struct key_preparsed_payload *prep);

and the new payload data is passed in *prep, whether or not it was preparsed.

Pull vfs update from Al Viro:

 - big one - consolidation of descriptor-related logics; almost all of
   that is moved to fs/file.c

   (BTW, I'm seriously tempted to rename the result to fd.c. As it is,
   we have a situation when file_table.c is about handling of struct
   file and file.c is about handling of descriptor tables; the reasons
   are historical - file_table.c used to be about a static array of
   struct file we used to have way back).

   A lot of stray ends got cleaned up and converted to saner primitives,
   disgusting mess in android/binder.c is still disgusting, but at least
   doesn't poke so much in descriptor table guts anymore. A bunch of
   relatively minor races got fixed in process, plus an ext4 struct file
   leak.

 - related thing - fget_light() partially unuglified; see fdget() in
   there (and yes, it generates the code as good as we used to have).

 - also related - bits of Cyrill's procfs stuff that got entangled into
   that work; _not_ all of it, just the initial move to fs/proc/fd.c and
   switch of fdinfo to seq_file.

 - Alex's fs/coredump.c spiltoff - the same story, had been easier to
   take that commit than mess with conflicts. The rest is a separate
   pile, this was just a mechanical code movement.

 - a few misc patches all over the place. Not all for this cycle,
   there'll be more (and quite a few currently sit in akpm's tree)."

Fix up trivial conflicts in the android binder driver, and some fairly
simple conflicts due to two different changes to the sock_alloc_file()
interface ("take descriptor handling from sock_alloc_file() to callers"
vs "net: Providing protocol type via system.sockprotoname xattr of
/proc/PID/fd entries" adding a dentry name to the socket)

Jeff Layton 4f2b86aba8 cifs: change DOS/NT/POSIX mapping of ERRnoresource
ERRnoresource is an ERRSRV level (aka server-side) error and means "No
resources currently available for request". Currently that maps to POSIX
-ENOBUFS. No NT errors map to it currently.

NT_STATUS_INSUFFICIENT_RESOURCES and NT_STATUS_INSUFF_SERVER_RESOURCES
are also similar in meaning. Currently the client maps those to
ERRnomem, which maps to -ENOMEM in POSIX.

All of these mappings seem to be quite wrong to me and are confusing for
users. All of the above errors indicate problems on the server, not the
client. Reporting -ENOMEM or -ENOBUFS implies that the client is running
out of resources.

This patch changes those mappings. The NT_* errors are changed to map to
the SRV level ERRnoresource. That error is in turn changed to return
-EREMOTEIO which is the only POSIX error I could find that conveys that
something went wrong on the server. While we're at it, change the SMB2
equivalent error to return the same.

Note that this more or less renders the socket=TCP_NODELAY mount option

TCP_NODELAY is essentially ignored.

This new struct represents an array of kvecs immediately followed by an

David Howells d4f65b5d24 KEYS: Add payload preparsing opportunity prior to key instantiate or update
Give the key type the opportunity to preparse the payload prior to the
instantiation and update routines being called. This is done with the
provision of two new key type operations:

	int (*preparse)(struct key_preparsed_payload *prep);
	void (*free_preparse)(struct key_preparsed_payload *prep);

If the first operation is present, then it is called before key creation (in
the add/update case) or before the key semaphore is taken (in the update and
instantiate cases). The second operation is called to clean up if the first
was called.

preparse() is given the opportunity to fill in the following structure:

	struct key_preparsed_payload {
		char		*description;
		void		*type_data[2];
		void		*payload;
		const void	*data;
		size_t		datalen;
		size_t		quotalen;
	};

The instantiate() and update() operations are then modified to look like this:

	int (*instantiate)(struct key *key, struct key_preparsed_payload *prep);
	int (*update)(struct key *key, struct key_preparsed_payload *prep);

and the new payload data is passed in *prep, whether or not it was preparsed.

Jeff Layton 764a1b1ace cifs: ensure that we always do cifsFileInfo_get under the spinlock
The readpages bug is a regression that was introduced in 6993f74a5.
This also fixes a couple of similar bugs in the uncached read and write
codepaths.

Also, prevent this sort of thing in the future by having cifsFileInfo_get
take the spinlock itself, and adding a _locked variant for use in places
that are already holding the lock. The _put code has always done that
so this makes for a less confusing interface.

Linus Torvalds a66d2c8f7e Merge branch 'for-linus-2' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/viro/vfs
Pull the big VFS changes from Al Viro:
 "This one is *big* and changes quite a few things around VFS. What's in there:

   - the first of two really major architecture changes - death to open
     intents.

     The former is finally there; it was very long in making, but with
     Miklos getting through really hard and messy final push in
     fs/namei.c, we finally have it. Unlike his variant, this one
     doesn't introduce struct opendata; what we have instead is
     ->atomic_open() taking preallocated struct file * and passing
     everything via its fields.

     Instead of returning struct file *, it returns -E... on error, 0
     on success and 1 in "deal with it yourself" case (e.g. symlink
     found on server, etc.).

     See comments before fs/namei.c:atomic_open(). That made a lot of
     goodies finally possible and quite a few are in that pile:
     ->lookup(), ->d_revalidate() and ->create() do not get struct
     nameidata * anymore; ->lookup() and ->d_revalidate() get lookup
     flags instead, ->create() gets "do we want it exclusive" flag.

     With the introduction of new helper (kern_path_locked()) we are rid
     of all struct nameidata instances outside of fs/namei.c; it's still
     visible in namei.h, but not for long. Come the next cycle,
     declaration will move either to fs/internal.h or to fs/namei.c
     itself.  [me, miklos, hch]

   - The second major change: behaviour of final fput(). Now we have
     __fput() done without any locks held by caller *and* not from deep
     in call stack.

     That obviously lifts a lot of constraints on the locking in there.
     Moreover, it's legal now to call fput() from atomic contexts (which
     has immediately simplified life for aio.c). We also don't need
     anti-recursion logics in __scm_destroy() anymore.

     There is a price, though - the damn thing has become partially
     asynchronous. For fput() from normal process we are guaranteed
     that pending __fput() will be done before the caller returns to
     userland, exits or gets stopped for ptrace.

     For kernel threads and atomic contexts it's done via
     schedule_work(), so theoretically we might need a way to make sure
     it's finished; so far only one such place had been found, but there
     might be more.

     There's flush_delayed_fput() (do all pending __fput()) and there's
     __fput_sync() (fput() analog doing __fput() immediately). I hope
     we won't need them often; see warnings in fs/file_table.c for
     details. [me, based on task_work series from Oleg merged last
     cycle]

   - sync series from Jan

   - large part of "death to sync_supers()" work from Artem; the only
     bits missing here are exofs and ext4 ones. As far as I understand,
     those are going via the exofs and ext4 trees resp.; once they are
     in, we can put ->write_super() to the rest, along with the thread
     calling it.

   - preparatory bits from unionmount series (from dhowells).

   - assorted cleanups and fixes all over the place, as usual.

  This is not the last pile for this cycle; there's at least jlayton's
  ESTALE work and fsfreeze series (the latter - in dire need of fixes,
  so I'm not sure it'll make the cut this cycle). I'll probably throw
  symlink/hardlink restrictions stuff from Kees into the next pile, too.
  Plus there's a lot of misc patches I hadn't thrown into that one -
  it's large enough as it is..."

Jeff Layton cd60042cc1 cifs: always update the inode cache with the results from a FIND_*
When we get back a FIND_FIRST/NEXT result, we have some info about the
dentry that we use to instantiate a new inode. We were ignoring and
discarding that info when we had an existing dentry in the cache.

Fix this by updating the inode in place when we find an existing dentry
and the uniqueid is the same.

Each task would kmap part of its address array before getting stuck, but
not enough to actually issue the write.

This patch fixes this by serializing the marshal_iov operations for
async reads and writes. The idea here is to ensure that cifs
aggressively tries to populate a request before attempting to fulfill
another one. As soon as all of the pages are kmapped for a request, then
we can unlock and allow another one to proceed.

There's no need to do this serialization on non-CONFIG_HIGHMEM arches
however, so optimize all of this out when CONFIG_HIGHMEM isn't set.

Jeff Layton 3ae629d98b cifs: on CONFIG_HIGHMEM machines, limit the rsize/wsize to the kmap space
We currently rely on being able to kmap all of the pages in an async
read or write request. If you're on a machine that has CONFIG_HIGHMEM
set then that kmap space is limited, sometimes to as low as 512 slots.

With 512 slots, we can only support up to a 2M r/wsize, and that's
assuming that we can get our greedy little hands on all of them. There
are other users however, so it's possible we'll end up stuck with a
size that large.

Since we can't handle a rsize or wsize larger than that currently, cap
those options at the number of kmap slots we have. We could consider
capping it even lower, but we currently default to a max of 1M. Might as
well allow those luddites on 32 bit arches enough rope to hang
themselves.

A more robust fix would be to teach the send and receive routines how
to contend with an array of pages so we don't need to marshal up a kvec
array at all. That's a fairly significant overhaul though, so we'll need
this limit in place until that's ready.

A user reported a crash in cifs_demultiplex_thread() caused by an

Jeff Layton ec01d738a1 cifs: when server doesn't set CAP_LARGE_READ_X, cap default rsize at MaxBufferSize
When the server doesn't advertise CAP_LARGE_READ_X, then MS-CIFS states
that you must cap the size of the read at the client's MaxBufferSize.
Unfortunately, testing with many older servers shows that they often
can't service a read larger than their own MaxBufferSize.

Since we can't assume what the server will do in this situation, we must
be conservative here for the default. When the server can't do large
reads, then assume that it can't satisfy any read larger than its
MaxBufferSize either.

Luckily almost all modern servers can do large reads, so this won't
affect them. This is really just for older win9x and OS/2 era servers.
Also, note that this patch just governs the default rsize. The admin can
always override this if he so chooses.

Suresh Jayaraman e73f843a32 cifs: fix parsing of password mount option
The double delimiter check that allows a comma in the password parsing code is
unconditional. We set "tmp_end" to the end of the string and we continue to
check for double delimiter. In the case where the password doesn't contain a
comma we end up setting tmp_end to NULL and eventually setting "options" to
"end". This results in the premature termination of the options string and hence
the values of UNCip and UNC are being set to NULL. This results in mount failure
with "Connecting to DFS root not implemented yet" error.

This error is usually not noticable as we have password as the last option in
the superblock mountdata. But when we call expand_dfs_referral() from
cifs_mount() and try to compose mount options for the submount, the resulting
mountdata will be of the form

   ",ver=1,user=foo,pass=bar,ip=x.x.x.x,unc=\\server\share"

and hence results in the above error. This bug has been seen with older NAS
servers running Samba 3.0.24.

Fix this by moving the double delimiter check inside the conditional loop.

Changes since -v1

   - removed the wrong strlen() micro optimization.

Steve French 1080ef758f CIFS: Introduce SMB2 mounts as vers=2.1
As with Linux nfs client, which uses "nfsvers=" or "vers=" to
indicate which protocol to use for mount, specifying

"vers=2.1"

will force an SMB2 mount. When vers is not specified CIFS is used

"vers=1"

We can eventually autonegotiate down from SMB2 to CIFS
when SMB2 is stable enough to make it the default, but this
is for the future. At that time we could also implement a
"maxprotocol" mount option as smbclient and Samba have today,
but that would be premature until SMB2 is stable.

Intially the SMB2 Kconfig option will depend on "BROKEN"
until the merge is complete, and then be "EXPERIMENTAL"
When it is no longer experimental we can consider changing

Steve French 675f36fb1d CIFS: Introduce SMB2 Kconfig option
SMB2 is the followon to the CIFS (and SMB) protocols
and the default for Windows since Windows Vista, and also
now implemented by various non-Windows servers. SMB2
is more secure, has various performance advantages, including
larger i/o sizes, flow control, better caching model and more.
SMB2 also resolves some scalability limits in the CIFS
protocol and adds many new features while being much
simpler (only a few dozen commands instead of hundreds)
and since the protocol is clearer it is also more consistently
implemented across servers and thus easier to optimize.

After much discussion with Jeff Layton, Jeremy Allison
and others at Connectathon, we decided to move the SMB2
code from a distinct .ko and fstype into distinct
C files that optionally build in cifs.ko. As a result
the Kconfig gets simpler.

To avoid destabilizing CIFS, the SMB2 code is going
to be moved into its own experimental CONFIG_CIFS_SMB2 ifdef
as it is merged and rereviewed. The changes to stable
CIFS (builds with the SMB2 ifdef off) are expected to be
fairly small.

Ian Kent 936ad90944 cifs - check S_AUTOMOUNT in revalidate
When revalidating a dentry, if the inode wasn't known to be a dfs
entry when the dentry was instantiated, such as when created via
->readdir(), the DCACHE_NEED_AUTOMOUNT flag needs to be set on the
dentry in ->d_revalidate().

The false return from cifs_d_revalidate(), due to the inode now
being marked with the S_AUTOMOUNT flag, might not invalidate the
dentry if there is a concurrent unlazy path walk. This is because
the dentry reference count will be at least 2 in this case causing
d_invalidate() to return EBUSY. So the asumption that the dentry
will be discarded then correctly instantiated via ->lookup() might
not hold.

While testing, I've found that even when we are able to negotiate a

Lifting this restriction gave almost a twofold increase in sequential
read performance on my craptactular KVM test rig with a 1M rsize.

I think this is safe since the actual ra_pages that the VM requests
is run through max_sane_readahead() prior to submitting the I/O. Under
memory pressure we should end up with large readahead requests being
suppressed anyway.

Jeff Layton d81625587f cifs: handle "sloppy" option appropriately
cifs.ko has historically been tolerant of options that it does not
recognize. This is not normal behavior for a filesystem however.
Usually, it should only do this if you mount with '-s', and autofs
generally passes -s to the mount command to allow this behavior.

This patch makes cifs handle the option "sloppy" appropriately. If it's
present in the options string, then the client will tolerate options
that it doesn't recognize. If it's not present then the client will
error out in the presence of options that it does not recognize and
throw an error message explaining why.

There is also a companion patch being proposed for mount.cifs to make it
append "sloppy" to the mount options when passed the '-s' flag. This also
should (obviously) be applied on top of Sachin's conversion to the
standard option parser.

Sachin Prabhu 8830d7e07a cifs: use standard token parser for mount options
Use the standard token parser instead of the long if condition to parse
cifs mount options.

This was first proposed by Scott Lovenberg
http://lists.samba.org/archive/linux-cifs-client/2010-May/006079.html

Mount options have been grouped together in terms of their input types.
Aliases for username, password, domain and credentials have been added.
The password parser has been modified to make it easier to read.

Since the patch was first proposed, the following bugs have been fixed
1) Allow blank 'pass' option to be passed by the cifs mount helper when
using sec=none.
2) Do not explicitly set vol->nullauth to 0. This causes a problem
when using sec=none while also using a username.

The gfp flags are currently set to __GPF_HIGHMEM, which doesn't allow
for any reclaim. Make this more resilient by or'ing that with
GFP_KERNEL. Also, get rid of the goto and unify the exit codepath.
