Currently it is not possible for userspace to map a DMABUF exported buffer
with write permissions. This patch allows to also pass O_RDONLY/O_RDWR when
exporting the buffer, so that userspace may map it with write permissions.

There's no "unlink from sysfs" interface for ksets, so I think callers of
kset_unregister() expect the kset to be removed from sysfs immediately,
without waiting for the last reference to be released.
This patch makes the sysfs removal happen immediately, so the caller may
create a new kset with the same name as soon as kset_unregister() returns.
Without this, every caller has to call "kobject_del(&kset->kobj)" first
unless it knows it will never create a new kset with the same name.
This sometimes shows up on module unload and reload, where the reload fails
because it tries to create a kobject with the same name as one from the
original load that still exists. CONFIG_DEBUG_KOBJECT_RELEASE=y makes this
problem easier to hit.

When booted with device tree, we may still have platform data passed
as auxdata. For am3517 this is needed for passing the interrupt_enable
and interrupt_disable callbacks that access the omap system control module
registers. These callback functions will eventually go away when we have
a separate system control module driver.
Some of the things that are currently passed as platform data we don't need
to set up as device tree properties as they are always the same on am3517.
So let's use a new compatible flag for those so we can get those from
the device tree match data.
Also note that we need to fix setting of phy_dev to NULL instead of an empty
string as the code later on uses that to find the first phy on the mdio bus.
This seems to have been caused by 5d69e0076a (net: davinci_emac: switch to
new mdio).

- Another set of fixes to fix regressions caused by moving OMAP from board

maybe just a few small patches to follow.
- More fixes for Marvell platforms, most dealing with misdescribed PCIe

But there's also:
- Some smaller tweaks to defconfigs to make more boards bootable in my

From Tony Lindgren:
Some omap related fixes that have come up with people moving to device
tree only based booting for omap2+.
The series contains a handful of fixes for the igep boards as they were
one of the first omap3 boards to jump over completely to device tree
based booting. So these can be considered regressions compared to
booting igep in legacy mode with board files in v3.12.
Also included are few other device tree vs legacy booting regressions:
- yet more missing omap3 .dtsi entries that have showed up booting
various boards with device tree only
- n900 eMMC device tree fix
- fixes for beagle USB EHCI
- two fixes to make omap2420 MMC work
As we're moving omap2+ to be device tree only for v3.14, I'd like to
have v3.13 work equally well for legacy based booting and device tree
based booting. So there will be likely few more device tree related
booting patches trickling in.
This series also includes a regression fix for the omap timer posted
mode that may wrongly stay on from the bootloader for some SoCs.

Traditionally the "get" functions increment the reference count of the
object that is returned, which does not happen with vme_slot_get. The
function vme_slot_get returns the physical VME slot associated with a
particular struct vme_dev. Rename vme_slot_num to avoid any confusion.

The match function for vme_user is completely wrong. It will blindly bind
against the first VME slot on each bus (at this point that would be just the
first bus as the driver can only handle one bus).
The original intention (before some major subsystem changes) was that the
driver bind against the slot to which the bridge was attached in the VME
system and to the bus(es) provided via the "bus" module parameter.
To do this cleanly (i.e. without poking arround in the subsystems internal
stuctures) a functionality has been added to provide access to the bus
enumeration.

The underlying problem is that perf is invoking call_rcu() with the
scheduler locks held, but in NOCB mode, call_rcu() will with high
probability invoke the scheduler -- which just might want to use its
locks. The reason that call_rcu() needs to invoke the scheduler is
to wake up the corresponding rcuo callback-offload kthread, which
does the job of starting up a grace period and invoking the callbacks
afterwards.
One solution (championed on a related problem by Lai Jiangshan) is to
simply defer the wakeup to some point where scheduler locks are no longer
held. Since we don't want to unnecessarily incur the cost of such
deferral, the task before us is threefold:
1. Determine when it is likely that a relevant scheduler lock is held.
2. Defer the wakeup in such cases.
3. Ensure that all deferred wakeups eventually happen, preferably
sooner rather than later.
We use irqs_disabled_flags() as a proxy for relevant scheduler locks
being held. This works because the relevant locks are always acquired
with interrupts disabled. We may defer more often than needed, but that
is at least safe.
The wakeup deferral is tracked via a new field in the per-CPU and
per-RCU-flavor rcu_data structure, namely ->nocb_defer_wakeup.
This flag is checked by the RCU core processing. The __rcu_pending()
function now checks this flag, which causes rcu_check_callbacks()
to initiate RCU core processing at each scheduling-clock interrupt
where this flag is set. Of course this is not sufficient because
scheduling-clock interrupts are often turned off (the things we used to
be able to count on!). So the flags are also checked on entry to any
state that RCU considers to be idle, which includes both NO_HZ_IDLE idle
state and NO_HZ_FULL user-mode-execution state.
This approach should allow call_rcu() to be invoked regardless of what

The DWC2 USB controller in the BCM2835 (Raspberry Pi) needs some non-
default parameters. Select these based on the compatible value from the
DT node. For all other HW, fall back to the default parameters currently
in use.
The values in params_bcm2835[] were posted to the mailing list by Paul
quite some time ago. I made a couple of minor modifications since then;
to set ahbcfg instead of ahb_single, and to set uframe_sched.

If sufficient keys (or keyrings) are added into a keyring such that a node in
the associative array's tree overflows (each node has a capacity N, currently
16) and such that all N+1 keys have the same index key segment for that level
of the tree (the level'th nibble of the index key), then assoc_array_insert()
calls ops->diff_objects() to indicate at which bit position the two index keys
vary.
However, __key_link_begin() passes a NULL object to assoc_array_insert() with
the intention of supplying the correct pointer later before we commit the
change. This means that keyring_diff_objects() is given a NULL pointer as one
of its arguments which it does not expect. This results in an oops like the
attached.
With the previous patch to fix the keyring hash function, this can be forced
much more easily by creating a keyring and only adding keyrings to it. Add any
other sort of key and a different insertion path is taken - all 16+1 objects
must want to cluster in the same node slot.
This can be tested by:
r=`keyctl newring sandbox @s`
for ((i=0; i<=16; i++)); do keyctl newring ring$i $r; done
This should work fine, but oopses when the 17th keyring is added.
Since ops->diff_objects() is always called with the first pointer pointing to
the object to be inserted (ie. the NULL pointer), we can fix the problem by
changing the to-be-inserted object pointer to point to the index key passed
into assoc_array_insert() instead.
Whilst we're at it, we also switch the arguments so that they are the same as
for ->compare_object().

A strictly monotonically increasing sequence is normally used in
numbered lists as they provide an intuitive ordering of the
elements.
However, in situations where race conditions can appear, this
assumption breaks down and you can end up with unpredictable
results, leading to a rather confusing list :-)
This changes the numbered list 1,2,2,2 to the more intuitive
1,2,3,4.

Avoid declaring ALIGN() and __aligned() in
include/uapi/linux/mic_common.h since they pollute user space
namespace. Also, mic_aligned_size() can be simply replaced simply by
sizeof() since all structures where mic_aligned_size() is used are
declared using __attribute__ ((aligned(8)));

This puts two macros, ALIGN() and __aligned(), into arbitrary user space
namespace. This really isn't safe or acceptable, especially since those
symbols are highly generic.
...
When these structures are forced-aligned, they will in fact have padding
automatically added by the compiler to an 8-byte boundary anyway, so
mic_aligned_size() does nothing.

MIC user space daemon poll's on sysfs changes. The documentation for
sysfs_poll(...) in fs/sysfs/file.c states that "Once poll/select
indicates that the value has changed, you need to close and re-open the
file, or seek to 0 and read again". This step was missed out earlier and
resulted in the daemon spinning continuously rather than getting blocked
in 'poll'. This bug was exposed by commit aea585ef8f introduced as
part of sysfs changes in 3.13-rc1. A seek to 0 has been introduced to

While at it, let's also add minimal device tree support so

Although adding the minimal device tree support is not strictly

gpiolib now exports a new descriptor-based interface which deprecates
the older integer-based one. This patch documents this new interface and
also takes the opportunity to brush-up the GPIO documentation a little
bit.
The new descriptor-based interface follows the same consumer/driver
model as many other kernel subsystems (e.g. clock, regulator), so its
documentation has similarly been splitted into different files.
The content of the former documentation has been reused whenever it
made sense; however, some of its content did not apply to the new
interface anymore and have this been removed. Likewise, new sections
like the mapping of GPIOs to devices have been written from scratch.
The deprecated legacy-based documentation is still available, untouched,
under Documentation/gpio/gpio-legacy.txt.

Pull security subsystem updates from James Morris:
"In this patchset, we finally get an SELinux update, with Paul Moore
taking over as maintainer of that code.
Also a significant update for the Keys subsystem, as well as
maintenance updates to Smack, IMA, TPM, and Apparmor"
and since I wanted to know more about the updates to key handling,
here's the explanation from David Howells on that:
"Okay. There are a number of separate bits. I'll go over the big bits
and the odd important other bit, most of the smaller bits are just
fixes and cleanups. If you want the small bits accounting for, I can
do that too.
(1) Keyring capacity expansion.
KEYS: Consolidate the concept of an 'index key' for key access
KEYS: Introduce a search context structure
KEYS: Search for auth-key by name rather than target key ID
Add a generic associative array implementation.
KEYS: Expand the capacity of a keyring
Several of the patches are providing an expansion of the capacity of a
keyring. Currently, the maximum size of a keyring payload is one page.
Subtract a small header and then divide up into pointers, that only gives
you ~500 pointers on an x86_64 box. However, since the NFS idmapper uses
a keyring to store ID mapping data, that has proven to be insufficient to
the cause.
Whatever data structure I use to handle the keyring payload, it can only
store pointers to keys, not the keys themselves because several keyrings
may point to a single key. This precludes inserting, say, and rb_node
struct into the key struct for this purpose.
I could make an rbtree of records such that each record has an rb_node
and a key pointer, but that would use four words of space per key stored
in the keyring. It would, however, be able to use much existing code.
I selected instead a non-rebalancing radix-tree type approach as that
could have a better space-used/key-pointer ratio. I could have used the
radix tree implementation that we already have and insert keys into it by
their serial numbers, but that means any sort of search must iterate over
the whole radix tree. Further, its nodes are a bit on the capacious side
for what I want - especially given that key serial numbers are randomly
allocated, thus leaving a lot of empty space in the tree.
So what I have is an associative array that internally is a radix-tree
with 16 pointers per node where the index key is constructed from the key
type pointer and the key description. This means that an exact lookup by
type+description is very fast as this tells us how to navigate directly to
the target key.
I made the data structure general in lib/assoc_array.c as far as it is
concerned, its index key is just a sequence of bits that leads to a
pointer. It's possible that someone else will be able to make use of it
also. FS-Cache might, for example.
(2) Mark keys as 'trusted' and keyrings as 'trusted only'.
KEYS: verify a certificate is signed by a 'trusted' key
KEYS: Make the system 'trusted' keyring viewable by userspace
KEYS: Add a 'trusted' flag and a 'trusted only' flag
KEYS: Separate the kernel signature checking keyring from module signing
These patches allow keys carrying asymmetric public keys to be marked as
being 'trusted' and allow keyrings to be marked as only permitting the
addition or linkage of trusted keys.
Keys loaded from hardware during kernel boot or compiled into the kernel
during build are marked as being trusted automatically. New keys can be
loaded at runtime with add_key(). They are checked against the system
keyring contents and if their signatures can be validated with keys that
are already marked trusted, then they are marked trusted also and can
thus be added into the master keyring.
Patches from Mimi Zohar make this usable with the IMA keyrings also.
(3) Remove the date checks on the key used to validate a module signature.
X.509: Remove certificate date checks
It's not reasonable to reject a signature just because the key that it was
generated with is no longer valid datewise - especially if the kernel
hasn't yet managed to set the system clock when the first module is
loaded - so just remove those checks.
(4) Make it simpler to deal with additional X.509 being loaded into the kernel.
KEYS: Load *.x509 files into kernel keyring
KEYS: Have make canonicalise the paths of the X.509 certs better to deduplicate
The builder of the kernel now just places files with the extension ".x509"
into the kernel source or build trees and they're concatenated by the
kernel build and stuffed into the appropriate section.
(5) Add support for userspace kerberos to use keyrings.
KEYS: Add per-user_namespace registers for persistent per-UID kerberos caches
KEYS: Implement a big key type that can save to tmpfs
Fedora went to, by default, storing kerberos tickets and tokens in tmpfs.
We looked at storing it in keyrings instead as that confers certain
advantages such as tickets being automatically deleted after a certain
amount of time and the ability for the kernel to get at these tokens more
easily.
To make this work, two things were needed:
(a) A way for the tickets to persist beyond the lifetime of all a user's
sessions so that cron-driven processes can still use them.
The problem is that a user's session keyrings are deleted when the
session that spawned them logs out and the user's user keyring is
deleted when the UID is deleted (typically when the last log out
happens), so neither of these places is suitable.
I've added a system keyring into which a 'persistent' keyring is
created for each UID on request. Each time a user requests their
persistent keyring, the expiry time on it is set anew. If the user
doesn't ask for it for, say, three days, the keyring is automatically
expired and garbage collected using the existing gc. All the kerberos
tokens it held are then also gc'd.
(b) A key type that can hold really big tickets (up to 1MB in size).
The problem is that Active Directory can return huge tickets with lots
of auxiliary data attached. We don't, however, want to eat up huge
tracts of unswappable kernel space for this, so if the ticket is
greater than a certain size, we create a swappable shmem file and dump
the contents in there and just live with the fact we then have an
inode and a dentry overhead. If the ticket is smaller than that, we
slap it in a kmalloc()'d buffer"

There are two code paths how page with pmd page table can be freed:
pmd_free() and pmd_free_tlb().
I've missed the second one and didn't add page table destructor call
there. It leads to leak of page->ptl for pmd page tables, if
dynamically allocated page->ptl is in use.
The patch adds the missed destructor and modifies documentation
accordingly.

"Mostly these are fixes for fallout due to merge window changes, as

1) Johannes Berg noticed two major deficiencies in our genetlink
registration. Some genetlink protocols we passing in constant
counts for their ops array rather than something like
ARRAY_SIZE(ops) or similar. Also, some genetlink protocols were
using fixed IDs for their multicast groups.
We have to retain these fixed IDs to keep existing userland tools
working, but reserve them so that other multicast groups used by
other protocols can not possibly conflict.
In dealing with these two problems, we actually now use less state
management for genetlink operations and multicast groups.

- a new mem2mem driver for TI SoC (ti-vpe)

- some improvements on buffer allocation at VB2 core
- usual driver fixes and improvements
PS this time, we have a smaller number of patches. While it is hard
to pinpoint to the reasons, I believe that it is mainly due to:
1) there are several patch series ready, but depending on DT review.
I decided to grant some extra time for DT maintainers to look on
it, as they're expecting to have more time with the changes agreed
during ARM mini-summit and KS. If they can't review in time for
3.14, I'll review myself and apply for the next merge window.
2) I suspect that having both LinuxCon EU and LinuxCon NA happening
during the same merge window affected the development
productivity, as several core media developers participated on
both events"

On CSR SiRFprimaII and SiRFatlasVI, the 6th timer can act as a watchdog
timer when the Watchdog mode is enabled.
watchdog occur when TIMER watchdog counter matches the value software
pre-set, when this event occurs, the effect is the same as the system
software reset.

A first set of batches of fixes for 3.13. The diffstat is large mostly
because we're adding a defconfig for a family that's been lacking it, and
there's some missing clock information added for i.MX and OMAP.
The at91 new code is around dealing with RTC/RTT reset at boot to fix possible
hangs due to pending wakeup interrupts coming in during early boot.

of table's page. We have to disable split lock, if spinlock_t is too
big be to be embedded, like when DEBUG_SPINLOCK or DEBUG_LOCK_ALLOC
enabled.
This patch add support for dynamic allocation of split page table lock
if we can't embed it to struct page.
page->ptl is unsigned long now and we use it as spinlock_t if
sizeof(spinlock_t) <= sizeof(long), otherwise it's pointer to spinlock_t.
The spinlock_t allocated in pgtable_page_ctor() for PTE table and in
pgtable_pmd_page_ctor() for PMD table. All other helpers converted to
support dynamically allocated page->ptl.

After commit c9eeec26e3 ("tcp: TSQ can use a dynamic limit"), several
users reported throughput regressions, notably on mvneta and wifi
adapters.
802.11 AMPDU requires a fair amount of queueing to be effective.
This patch partially reverts the change done in tcp_write_xmit()
so that the minimal amount is sysctl_tcp_limit_output_bytes.
It also remove the use of this sysctl while building skb stored
in write queue, as TSO autosizing does the right thing anyway.
Users with well behaving NICS and correct qdisc (like sch_fq),
can then lower the default sysctl_tcp_limit_output_bytes value from
128KB to 8KB.
This new usage of sysctl_tcp_limit_output_bytes permits each driver
authors to check how their driver performs when/if the value is set
to a minimum of 4KB.
Normally, line rate for a single TCP flow should be possible,
but some drivers rely on timers to perform TX completion and
too long TX completion delays prevent reaching full throughput.

Allows for scripting test runs by module load / unload. Prevent module
load from returning until 'iterations' (finite) tests have completed, or
cause reads of the 'wait' parameter in sysfs to pause until the tests
are done.
Also killed the local waitqueue since we can just let the thread exit
naturally as long as we hold a reference.

1/ move 'run' control to a module parameter so we can do:
modprobe dmatest run=1. With this moved the rest of the debugfs
boilerplate can go.
2/ Fix parameter initialization. Previously the test was being started
without taking the parameters into account in the built-in case.
Also killed off the '__' version of some routines. The new rule is just
hold the lock when calling a *threaded_test() routine.

For long running tests the tracking results in a memory leak for the "ok"

This reverts commit d86b2f298e.
The kernel log buffer is sufficient for collecting test results. The
current logging OOMs the machine on long running tests, and usually only
the first error is relevant. It is better to stop on error and parse
the kernel output. If output volume becomes an issue we can always
investigate using trace messages.

Linux Programmer's Manual. This is an acknowledged change in the MTD
ABI, but I can't imagine somebody relying on the non-standard -ENOSYS
error code specifically. Am I just being unimaginative? :)
- Fix a few important GPMI NAND bugs (one regression from 3.12 and one
long-standing race condition)

Pull block driver updates from Jens Axboe:
"This is the block driver pull request for 3.13. As with the core pull
request just sent out, this was rebased on top of the core branch
again after the immutable series was pulled. This also means that
bcache gets to sit the initial pull over. I will send a second driver
pull request in the merge window to get those fixes in, once they have
been rebased and tested on top of the non-immutable stack.
This pull request contains:
- Add support for the sTec Kronos pci-e flash card from sTec. Also
has various cleanups for this driver, from myself, Bart, Mike
Snizter, and Wei Yongjun.
- Add surprise removal support for the micron mtip32xx driver from
Micron.
- Floppy documentation fix from Ben Harris.
- debugfs bug fix for pktcdvd from Dan Carpenter.
- Fix for the mtip32xx driver stack usage in the debugfs path,
dynamically allocating those buffers instead. From David Milburn.
- Disable cpqarray in Kconfig. The plan is to remove it on request
of HP, but lets disable it for a few revisions just to see if
anyone yells.
- drbd fixes from Lars Ellenberg and Philipp Reisner.
- Elevator switch fix for the s390 block driver from Heiko Carstens.

Pull DMA mask updates from Russell King:
"This series cleans up the handling of DMA masks in a lot of drivers,
fixing some bugs as we go.
Some of the more serious errors include:
- drivers which only set their coherent DMA mask if the attempt to
set the streaming mask fails.
- drivers which test for a NULL dma mask pointer, and then set the
dma mask pointer to a location in their module .data section -
which will cause problems if the module is reloaded.
To counter these, I have introduced two helper functions:
- dma_set_mask_and_coherent() takes care of setting both the
streaming and coherent masks at the same time, with the correct
error handling as specified by the API.
- dma_coerce_mask_and_coherent() which resolves the problem of
drivers forcefully setting DMA masks. This is more a marker for
future work to further clean these locations up - the code which
creates the devices really should be initialising these, but to fix
that in one go along with this change could potentially be very
disruptive.
The last thing this series does is prise away some of Linux's addition
to "DMA addresses are physical addresses and RAM always starts at
zero". We have ARM LPAE systems where all system memory is above 4GB
physical, hence having DMA masks interpreted by (eg) the block layers
as describing physical addresses in the range 0..DMAMASK fails on
these platforms. Santosh Shilimkar addresses this in this series; the
patches were copied to the appropriate people multiple times but were
ignored.
Fixing this also gets rid of some ARM weirdness in the setup of the
max*pfn variables, and brings ARM into line with every other Linux
architecture as far as those go"

Pull networking updates from David Miller:
1) The addition of nftables. No longer will we need protocol aware
firewall filtering modules, it can all live in userspace.
At the core of nftables is a, for lack of a better term, virtual
machine that executes byte codes to inspect packet or metadata
(arriving interface index, etc.) and make verdict decisions.
Besides support for loading packet contents and comparing them, the
interpreter supports lookups in various datastructures as
fundamental operations. For example sets are supports, and
therefore one could create a set of whitelist IP address entries
which have ACCEPT verdicts attached to them, and use the appropriate
byte codes to do such lookups.
Since the interpreted code is composed in userspace, userspace can
do things like optimize things before giving it to the kernel.
Another major improvement is the capability of atomically updating
portions of the ruleset. In the existing netfilter implementation,
one has to update the entire rule set in order to make a change and
this is very expensive.
Userspace tools exist to create nftables rules using existing
netfilter rule sets, but both kernel implementations will need to
co-exist for quite some time as we transition from the old to the
new stuff.
Kudos to Patrick McHardy, Pablo Neira Ayuso, and others who have
worked so hard on this.
2) Daniel Borkmann and Hannes Frederic Sowa made several improvements
to our pseudo-random number generator, mostly used for things like
UDP port randomization and netfitler, amongst other things.
In particular the taus88 generater is updated to taus113, and test
cases are added.
3) Support 64-bit rates in HTB and TBF schedulers, from Eric Dumazet
and Yang Yingliang.
4) Add support for new 577xx tigon3 chips to tg3 driver, from Nithin
Sujir.
5) Fix two fatal flaws in TCP dynamic right sizing, from Eric Dumazet,
Neal Cardwell, and Yuchung Cheng.
6) Allow IP_TOS and IP_TTL to be specified in sendmsg() ancillary
control message data, much like other socket option attributes.
From Francesco Fusco.
7) Allow applications to specify a cap on the rate computed
automatically by the kernel for pacing flows, via a new
SO_MAX_PACING_RATE socket option. From Eric Dumazet.
8) Make the initial autotuned send buffer sizing in TCP more closely
reflect actual needs, from Eric Dumazet.
9) Currently early socket demux only happens for TCP sockets, but we
can do it for connected UDP sockets too. Implementation from Shawn
Bohrer.
10) Refactor inet socket demux with the goal of improving hash demux
performance for listening sockets. With the main goals being able
to use RCU lookups on even request sockets, and eliminating the
listening lock contention. From Eric Dumazet.
11) The bonding layer has many demuxes in it's fast path, and an RCU
conversion was started back in 3.11, several changes here extend the
RCU usage to even more locations. From Ding Tianhong and Wang
Yufen, based upon suggestions by Nikolay Aleksandrov and Veaceslav
Falico.
12) Allow stackability of segmentation offloads to, in particular, allow
segmentation offloading over tunnels. From Eric Dumazet.
13) Significantly improve the handling of secret keys we input into the
various hash functions in the inet hashtables, TCP fast open, as
well as syncookies. From Hannes Frederic Sowa. The key fundamental
operation is "net_get_random_once()" which uses static keys.
Hannes even extended this to ipv4/ipv6 fragmentation handling and
our generic flow dissector.
14) The generic driver layer takes care now to set the driver data to
NULL on device removal, so it's no longer necessary for drivers to
explicitly set it to NULL any more. Many drivers have been cleaned
up in this way, from Jingoo Han.
15) Add a BPF based packet scheduler classifier, from Daniel Borkmann.
16) Improve CRC32 interfaces and generic SKB checksum iterators so that
SCTP's checksumming can more cleanly be handled. Also from Daniel
Borkmann.
17) Add a new PMTU discovery mode, IP_PMTUDISC_INTERFACE, which forces
using the interface MTU value. This helps avoid PMTU attacks,
particularly on DNS servers. From Hannes Frederic Sowa.
18) Use generic XPS for transmit queue steering rather than internal
(re-)implementation in virtio-net. From Jason Wang.

Discussion at Kernel Summit made it clear that the presence or absence of
specific Kconfig symbols are not considered ABI, and that no userspace (or
bootloader, etc) should rely on them.
In addition, kernel-internal symbols are well established as non-ABI, per
Documentation/stable_api_nonsense.txt.
Document both of these in Documentation/ABI/README, in a new section for
notable bits of non-ABI.

Some setuid binaries will allow reading of files which have read
permission by the real user id. This is problematic with files which
use %pK because the file access permission is checked at open() time,
but the kptr_restrict setting is checked at read() time. If a setuid
binary opens a %pK file as an unprivileged user, and then elevates
permissions before reading the file, then kernel pointer values may be
leaked.
This happens for example with the setuid pppd application on Ubuntu 12.04:
$ head -1 /proc/kallsyms
00000000 T startup_32
$ pppd file /proc/kallsyms
pppd: In file /proc/kallsyms: unrecognized option 'c1000000'
This will only leak the pointer value from the first line, but other
setuid binaries may leak more information.
Fix this by adding a check that in addition to the current process having
CAP_SYSLOG, that effective user and group ids are equal to the real ids.
If a setuid binary reads the contents of a file which uses %pK then the
pointer values will be printed as NULL if the real user is unprivileged.
Update the sysctl documentation to reflect the changes, and also correct
the documentation to state the kptr_restrict=0 is the default.
This is a only temporary solution to the issue. The correct solution is
to do the permission check at open() time on files, and to replace %pK
with a function which checks the open() time permission. %pK uses in
printk should be removed since no sane permission check can be done, and
instead protected by using dmesg_restrict.

The CONFIG_HPET_MMAP Kconfig option exposes the memory map of the HPET
registers to userspace. The Kconfig help points out that in some cases
this can be a security risk as some systems may erroneously configure the
map such that additional data is exposed to userspace.
This is a problem for distributions -- some users want the MMAP
functionality but it comes with a significant security risk. In an effort
to mitigate this risk, and due to the low number of users of the MMAP
functionality, I've introduced a kernel parameter, hpet_mmap_enable, that
is required in order to actually have the HPET MMAP exposed.

Now dirty_background_ratio/dirty_ratio contains a percentage of total
avaiable memory, which contains free pages and reclaimable pages. The
number of these pages is not equal to the number of total system memory.
But they are described as a percentage of total system memory in
Documentation/sysctl/vm.txt. So we need to fix them to avoid
misunderstanding.

The hot-Pluggable field in SRAT specifies which memory is hotpluggable.
As we mentioned before, if hotpluggable memory is used by the kernel, it
cannot be hot-removed. So memory hotplug users may want to set all
hotpluggable memory in ZONE_MOVABLE so that the kernel won't use it.
Memory hotplug users may also set a node as movable node, which has
ZONE_MOVABLE only, so that the whole node can be hot-removed.
But the kernel cannot use memory in ZONE_MOVABLE. By doing this, the
kernel cannot use memory in movable nodes. This will cause NUMA
performance down. And other users may be unhappy.
So we need a way to allow users to enable and disable this functionality.
In this patch, we introduce movable_node boot option to allow users to
choose to not to consume hotpluggable memory at early boot time and later
we can set it as ZONE_MOVABLE.
To achieve this, the movable_node boot option will control the memblock
allocation direction. That said, after memblock is ready, before SRAT is
parsed, we should allocate memory near the kernel image as we explained in
the previous patches. So if movable_node boot option is set, the kernel
does the following:
1. After memblock is ready, make memblock allocate memory bottom up.
2. After SRAT is parsed, make memblock behave as default, allocate memory
top down.
Users can specify "movable_node" in kernel commandline to enable this
functionality. For those who don't use memory hotplug or who don't want
to lose their NUMA performance, just don't specify anything. The kernel
will work as before.

The memory.numa_stat file was not hierarchical. Memory charged to the
children was not shown in parent's numa_stat.
This change adds the "hierarchical_" stats to the existing stats. The
new hierarchical stats include the sum of all children's values in
addition to the value of the memcg.
Tested: Create cgroup a, a/b and run workload under b. The values of
b are included in the "hierarchical_*" under a.

Pull sound updates from Takashi Iwai:
"There are no too intrusive changes in this update batch. The biggest
LOC is found in the new DICE driver, and other small changes are
scattered over the whole sound subtree (which is a common pattern).
Below are highlights:
- ALSA core:
* Memory allocation support with genpool
* Fix blocking in drain ioctl of compress_offload
- HD-audio:
* Improved AMD HDMI supports
* Intel HDMI detection improvements
* thinkpad_acpi mute-key integration
* New PCI ID, New ALC255,285,293 codecs, CX20952
- USB-audio:
* New buffer size management
* Clean up endpoint handling codes
- ASoC:
* Further work on the dmaengine helpers, including support for
configuring the parameters for DMA by reading the capabilities of
the DMA controller which removes some guesswork and magic numbers
from drivers.
* A refresh of the documentation.
* Conversions of many drivers to direct regmap API usage in order
to allow the ASoC level register I/O code to be removed, this
will hopefully be completed by v3.14.
* Support for using async register I/O in DAPM, reducing the time
taken to implement power transitions on systems that support it.
- Firewire: DICE driver
- Lots of small fixes for bugs reported by Coverity"

As well as the usual driver updates and cleanups there's a few
improvements to the core here:
- The start of some improvements to factor out more of the SPI message
loop into the core. Right now this is just simplifying the code a
bit but hopefully next time around we'll also have managed to roll
out some noticable performance improvements which drivers can take
advantage of.
- Support for loading modules for ACPI enumerated SPI devices.
- Managed registration for SPI controllers.
- Helper for another common I/O pattern.

Lots of driver updates here plus some nice new core features, the main
one being the first:
- Enable support for providing a dummy regulator when we know that one
must exist for the device to be functional. This makes it much
easier to add regulator support to drivers since we don't require
that the machine integration for all systems using the device be
updated to provide regulators.
- Substantial reduction in the amount of busy waiting done while
waiting for enables to complete.
- Allow MFDs to distribute regulator supplies to child devices so we
don't have to expose the internal structure of MFDs outside of the
driver.
- Managed registeration for regulators.
