This commit adds an Error ** argument to bdrv_img_create() and set it
appropriately on error.
Callers of bdrv_img_create() pass NULL for the new argument and still
rely on bdrv_img_create()'s return value. Next commits will change
callers to use the Error object instead.

There are QEMUMachines that have neither IF_IDE nor IF_SCSI as a
default/standard interface to their block devices / drives. Therefore,
this patch introduces a new field default_block_type per QEMUMachine
struct. The prior use_scsi field becomes thereby obsolete and is
replaced through .default_block_type = IF_SCSI.
This patch also changes the default for s390x to IF_VIRTIO and
removes an early hack that converts IF_IDE drives.
Other parties have already claimed interest (e.g. IF_SD for exynos)
To create a sane default, for machines that dont specify a
default_block_type, this patch makes IF_IDE = 0 and IF_NONE = 1.
I checked all users of IF_NONE (blockdev.c and ww/device-hotplug.c)
as well as IF_IDE and it seems that it is ok to change the defines -
in other words, I found no obvious (to me) assumption in the code
regarding IF_NONE==0. IF_NONE is only set if there is an
explicit if=none. Without if=* the interface becomes IF_DEFAULT.
I would suggest to have some additional care, e.g. by letting
this patch sit some days in the block tree.

Releases of qemu-kvm will be interrupted at qemu 1.3.0.
Users should switch to plain qemu releases.
To avoid breaking scenarios which are setup with command line
options specific to qemu-kvm, port these switches from qemu-kvm
to qemu.git.
Port drive boot option. From the qemu-kvm original commit message:
We do not want to maintain this option forever. It will be removed after
a grace period of a few releases. So warn the user that this option has
no effect and will become invalid soon.

Error management is important for mirroring; otherwise, an error on the
target (even something as "innocent" as ENOSPC) requires to start again
with a full copy. Similar to on_read_error/on_write_error, two separate
knobs are provided for on_source_error (reads) and on_target_error (writes).
The default is 'report' for both.
The 'ignore' policy will leave the sector dirty, so that it will be
retried later. Thus, it will not cause corruption.

Even for jobs that need to be manually completed, management may want
to take care itself of the completion, not requiring the user to issue
a command to terminate the job. In this case we want to avoid that
they poll us continuously, waiting for completion to become available.
Thus, add a new event that signals the phase switch and the availability
of the block-job-complete command.

While streaming can be dropped as soon as it progressed through the whole
image, mirroring needs to be completed manually for two reasons: 1) so that
management knows exactly when the VM switches to the target; 2) because
for other use cases such as replication, we may leave the operation running
for the whole life of the virtual machine.
Add a new block job command that manually completes background operations.

This simplifies some code and error checking, and also fixes a bug.
bdrv_find_backing_image() should only be passed absolute filenames,
or filenames relative to the chain. In the QMP message handler for
block commit, when looking up the base do so from the determined top
image, so we know it is reachable from top.
Some of the error messages put out by block-commit have changed
slightly, which causes 2 tests cases for block-commit to fail.
This patch updates the test cases to look for the correct error
output.

Job pausing reuses the existing support for cancellable sleeps. A pause
happens at the next sleeping point and lasts until the coroutine is
re-entered explicitly. Cancellation was already doing a forced resume,
so implement it explicitly in terms of resume.
Paused jobs cannot be canceled without first resuming them. This ensures
that I/O errors are never missed by management.

The command for live block commit is added, which has the following
arguments:
device: the block device to perform the commit on (mandatory)
base: the base image to commit into; optional (if not specified,
it is the underlying original image)
top: the top image of the commit - all data from inside top down
to base will be committed into base (mandatory for now; see
note, below)
speed: maximum speed, in bytes/sec
Note: Eventually this command will support merging down the active layer,
but that code is not yet complete. If the active layer is passed
in as top, then an error will be returned. Once merging down the
active layer is supported, the 'top' argument may become optional,
and default to the active layer.
The is done as a block job, so upon completion a BLOCK_JOB_COMPLETED will
be emitted.

Currently, after a live snapshot of a drive, the image that has
been 'demoted' to be below the new active layer remains r/w.
This patch reopens it read-only.
Note that we do not check for error on the reopen(), because we
will not abort the snapshots if the reopen fails.
This patch depends on the bdrv_reopen() series.

If readonly=on is given at device creation time, the ->readonly flag
needs to be set in the block driver state for this device so that
readonly-ness is preserved across media changes (qmp change command).
Similarly, to preserve the snapshot property requires ->open_flags to
be correct.

Now all major device models (IDE, SCSI, virtio) can choose between
writethrough and writeback at run-time, and virtio will even revert
to writethrough if the guest is not capable of sending flushes. So
we can change the default to writeback at last.
Tested, for lack of a better idea, with a breakpoint on bdrv_open
and all cache choices one by one.

For command line options which permit '?' meaning 'please list the
permitted values', add support for 'help' as a synonym, by abstracting
the check out into a helper function.
This change means that in some cases where we were being lazy in
our string parsing, "?junk" will now be rejected as an invalid option
rather than being (undocumentedly) treated the same way as "?".
Update the documentation to use 'help' rather than '?', since '?'
is a shell metacharacter and thus prone to fail confusingly if there
is a single character filename in the current working directory and
the '?' has not been escaped. It's therefore better to steer users
towards 'help', though '?' is retained for backwards compatibility.
We do not, however, update the output of the system emulator's -help
(or any documentation autogenerated from the qemu-options.hx which
is the source of the -help text) because libvirt parses our -help
output and will break. At a later date when QEMU provides a better
interface so libvirt can avoid having to do this, we can update the
-help text too.

All current users (IDE, SCSI and virtio-blk) happen to share this 20
characters limit. Still, it should be left to device models. They
already enforce their limits. They have to, as the DriveInfo limit
only affects legacy -drive serial=..., not the qdev properties.
usb-storage, which doesn't limit serial number length, also uses
DriveInfo for -usbdevice. But that doesn't provide access to
DriveInfo serial.

There are two producers of these hints: drive_init() on behalf of
-drive, and hd_geometry_guess().
The only consumer of the hint is hd_geometry_guess().
The callers of hd_geometry_guess() call it only when drive_init()
didn't set the hints. Therefore, drive_init()'s hints are never used.
Thus, hd_geometry_guess() only ever sees hints it produced itself in a
prior call. Only the first call computes something, subsequent calls
just repeat the first call's results. However, hd_geometry_guess() is
never called more than once: the device models don't, and the block
device is destroyed on unplug. Thus, dropping the repeat feature
doesn't break anything now.
If a block device wasn't destroyed on unplug and could be reused with
a new device, then repeating old results would be wrong. Thus,
dropping the repeat feature prevents future breakage.
This renders the hints unused. Purge them from the block layer.

If the image is read-only then it's not possible to copy read data into
it. Therefore copy-on-read is automatically disabled for read-only
images.
Up until now this behavior was silent, add a warning so the user knows
why copy-on-read is not working.

This commit converts qemu_opts_create() from qerror_report() to
error_set().
Currently, most calls to qemu_opts_create() can't fail, so most
callers don't need any changes.
The two cases where code checks for qemu_opts_create() erros are:
1. Initialization code in vl.c. All of them print their own
error messages directly to stderr, no need to pass the Error
object
2. The functions opts_parse(), qemu_opts_from_qdict() and
qemu_chr_parse_compat() make use of the error information and
they can be called from HMP or QMP. In this case, to allow for
incremental conversion, we propagate the error up using
qerror_report_err(), which keeps the QError semantics

Allow streaming operations to be started with an initial speed limit.
This eliminates the window of time between starting streaming and
issuing block-job-set-speed. Users should use the new optional 'speed'
parameter instead so that speed limits are in effect immediately when
the job starts.

The block job API uses -errno return values internally and we convert
these to Error in the QMP functions. This is ugly because the Error
should be created at the point where we still have all the relevant
information. More importantly, it is hard to add new error cases to
this case since we quickly run out of -errno values without losing
information.
Go ahead and use Error directly and don't convert later.

We do not want jobs to keep a device busy for a possibly very long
time, and management could become confused because they thought a
device was not even there anymore. So, cancel long-running jobs
as soon as their device is going to disappear.

Right now, the only modes are "existing" and "absolute-paths". Mirroring
introduces "no-backing-file". In the future "relative-paths" could be

Monitor operations that manipulate image files must not execute while a
background job (like image streaming) is in progress. This prevents
corruptions from happening when two pieces of code are manipulating the
image file without knowledge of each other.
The monitor "commit" command raises QERR_DEVICE_IN_USE when
bdrv_commit() returns -EBUSY but "commit all" has no error handling.
This is easy to fix, although note that we do not deliver a detailed
error about which device was busy in the "commit all" case.

This is a QAPI/QMP only command to take a snapshot of a group of
devices. This is similar to the blockdev-snapshot-sync command, except
blockdev-group-snapshot-sync accepts a list devices, filenames, and
formats.
It is attempted to keep the snapshot of the group atomic; if the
creation or open of any of the new snapshots fails, then all of
the new snapshots are abandoned, and the name of the snapshot image
that failed is returned. The failure case should not interrupt
any operations.
Rather than use bdrv_close() along with a subsequent bdrv_open() to
perform the pivot, the original image is never closed and the new
image is placed 'in front' of the original image via manipulation
of the BlockDriverState fields. Thus, once the new snapshot image
has been successfully created, there are no more failure points
before pivoting to the new snapshot.
This allows the group of disks to remain consistent with each other,
even across snapshot failures.

Unplugging a storage interface like virtio-blk causes the host block
device to be deleted too. Long-running operations like block migration
must take a DriveInfo reference to prevent the BlockDriverState from
being freed. For image streaming we can do the same thing.
Note that it is not possible to acquire/release the drive reference in
block.c where the block job functions live because
drive_get_ref()/drive_put_ref() are blockdev.c functions. Calling them
from block.c would be a layering violation - tools like qemu-img don't
even link against blockdev.c.

into the image file. Also add the BLOCK_JOB_COMPLETED QMP event which
is emitted when image streaming completes. Later patches add control

Long-running block operations like block migration and image streaming
must have continual access to their block device. It is not safe to
perform operations like hotplug, eject, change, resize, commit, or
external snapshot while a long-running operation is in progress.
This patch adds the missing bdrv_in_use() checks so that block migration
and image streaming never have the rug pulled out from underneath them.

Unfortunately, this conversion required an additional change.
In the old QMP command, the 'snapshot-file' argument is specified as
optional. The idea is to take the snapshot internally if 'snapshot-file'
is not passed. However, internal snapshots are not supported yet so
the command returns a MissingParamater error if 'snapshot-file' is not
passed. Which makes the argument actually required and will cause
compatibility breakage if we change that in the future.
To fix this the QAPI converted blockdev_snapshot_sync command makes the
'snapshot-file' argument required. Again, in practice it's actually required,
so this is not incompatible.
If we do implement internal snapshots someday, we'll need a new argument
for it.
Note that this discussion doesn't affect HMP.

Many places in QEMU call qemu_aio_flush() to complete all pending
asynchronous I/O. Most of these places actually want to drain all block
requests but there is no block layer API to do so.
This patch introduces the bdrv_drain_all() API to wait for requests
across all BlockDriverStates to complete. As a bonus we perform checks
after qemu_aio_wait() to ensure that requests really have finished.

This patch adds the -drive copy-on-read=on|off command-line option:
copy-on-read=on|off
copy-on-read is "on" or "off" and enables whether to copy read backing
file sectors into the image file. Copy-on-read avoids accessing the
same backing file sectors repeatedly and is useful when the backing
file is over a slow network. By default copy-on-read is off.

Recent versions of udev always keep the tray locked so that the kernel
can observe "eject request" events (aka tray button presses) even on
discs that aren't mounted. Add support for these events in the ATAPI
and SCSI cd drive device models.
To let management cope with the behavior of udev, an event should also
be added for "tray opened/closed". This way, after issuing an "eject"
command, management can poll until the guests actually reacts to the
command. They can then issue the "change" command after the tray has been
opened, or try with "eject -f" after a (configurable?) timeout. However,
with this patch and the corresponding support in the device models,
at least it is possible to do a manual two-step eject+change sequence.

change fails while the tray is locked by the guest. eject -f forces
it open and removes any media. Unfortunately, the tray closes again
instantly. Since the lock remains as it is, there is no way to insert
another medium unless the guest voluntarily unlocks.
Fix by leaving the tray open after monitor eject.

BlockDriverState member removable is a confused mess. It is true when
an ide-cd, scsi-cd or floppy qdev is attached, or when the
BlockDriverState was created with -drive if={floppy,sd} or -drive
if={ide,scsi,xen,none},media=cdrom ("created removable"), except when
an ide-hd, scsi-hd, scsi-generic or virtio-blk qdev is attached.
Three users remain:
1. eject_device(), via bdrv_is_removable() uses it to determine
whether a block device can eject media.
2. bdrv_info() is monitor command "info block". QMP documentation
says "true if the device is removable, false otherwise". From the
monitor user's point of view, the only sensible interpretation of
"is removable" is "can eject media with monitor commands eject and
change".
A block device can eject media unless a device is attached that
doesn't support it. Switch the two users over to new
bdrv_dev_has_removable_media() that returns exactly that.
3. bdrv_getlength() uses to suppress its length cache when media can
change (see commit 46a4e4e6). Media change is either monitor
command change (updates the length cache), monitor command eject
(doesn't update the length cache, easily fixable), or physical
media change (invalidates length cache, not so easily fixable).
I'm refraining from improving anything here, because this series is
long enough already. Instead, I simply switch it over to
bdrv_dev_has_removable_media() as well.
This changes the behavior of the length cache and of monitor commands
eject and change in two cases:
a. drive not created removable, no device attached
The commit makes the drive removable, and defeats the length cache.
Example: -drive if=none
b. drive created removable, but the attached drive is non-removable,
and doesn't call bdrv_set_removable(..., 0) (most devices don't)
The commit makes the drive non-removable, and enables the length
cache.
Example: -drive if=xen,media=cdrom -M xenpv
The other non-removable devices that don't call
bdrv_set_removable() can't currently use a drive created removable,
either because they aren't qdevified, or because they lack a drive
property. Won't stay that way.

For now, this just protects against programming errors like having the
same drive back multiple non-qdev devices, or untimely bdrv_delete().
Later commits will add other interesting uses.
While there, rename BlockDriverState member peer to dev, bdrv_attach()
to bdrv_attach_dev(), bdrv_detach() to bdrv_detach_dev(), and
bdrv_get_attached() to bdrv_get_attached_dev().

Add QMP bits for snapshot_blkdev command. This is the same as
snapshot_blkdev in the human monitor. The command is synchronous.
In the future async commands and or a break down of the functionality
into multiple commands might be added.
Also change the 'snapshot_file' argument to 'snapshot-file' in
the human monitor, so that it matches QMP.

Change BDRV_O_NOCACHE to only imply bypassing the host OS file cache,
but no writeback semantics. All existing callers are changed to also
specify BDRV_O_CACHE_WB to give them writeback semantics.

DriveInfo is closely tied to -drive, and like -drive, it mixes
information about host and guest part of the block device. Unlike
DriveInfo, BlockDriverState should be about the host part only.
One of the remaining guest bits there is the "type hint". -drive
option media sets it, and qdevs "ide-drive", "scsi-disk" and non-qdev
IF_XEN devices check it to pick HD vs. CD.
Communicate -drive option media via new DriveInfo member media_cd
instead.

When removing a drive from the host-side via drive_del we currently have
the following path:
drive_del
qemu_aio_flush()
bdrv_close() // zaps bs->drv, which makes any subsequent I/O get
// dropped. Works as designed
drive_uninit()
bdrv_delete() // frees the bs. Since the device is still connected to
// bs, any subsequent I/O is a use-after-free.
The value of bs->drv becomes unpredictable on free. As long as it
remains null, I/O still gets dropped, however it could become non-null
at any point after the free resulting SEGVs or other QEMU state
corruption.
To resolve this issue as simply as possible, we can chose to not
actually delete the BlockDriverState pointer. Since bdrv_close()
handles setting the drv pointer to NULL, we just need to remove the
BlockDriverState from the QLIST that is used to enumerate the block
devices. This is currently handled within bdrv_delete, so move this
into its own function, bdrv_make_anon().
The result is that we can now invoke drive_del, this closes the file
descriptors and sets BlockDriverState->drv to NULL which prevents futher
IO to the device, and since we do not free BlockDriverState, we don't
have to worry about the copy retained in the block devices.
We also don't attempt to remove the qdev property since we are no longer
deleting the BlockDriverState on drives with associated drives. This
also allows for removing Drives with no devices associated either.

We have two different virtio buses: pci and s390. The abstraction path
taken in qemu is to have generic aliases for each device type in the
architecture specific qdev devices.
So let's make use of these aliases whenever we can and define them
whenever we can.

In case we cannot open the newly created snapshot image, try to fall
back to the original image file and continue running on that, which
should prevent the guest from aborting.
This is a corner case which can happen if the admin by mistake
specifies the snapshot file on a virtual file system which does not
support O_DIRECT. bdrv_create() does not use O_DIRECT, but the
following open in bdrv_open() does and will then fail.

The host part of a block device can be deleted with in progress
block migration.
To fix this, add a reference count to DriveInfo, freeing resources
on last reference.

Segmentation fault (core dumped)
add_init_drive() is confused about drive_init()'s failure modes, and
cleans up when it shouldn't. This leaves the DriveInfo with member
opts dangling. drive_del attempts to free it, and dies.
drive_init() behaves as follows:
* If it created a drive with media, it returns its DriveInfo.
* If it created a drive without media, it clears *fatal_error and
returns NULL.
* If it couldn't create a drive, it sets *fatal_error and returns
NULL.
Of its three callers:
* drive_init_func() is correct.
* usb_msd_init() assumes drive_init() failed when it returns NULL.
This is correct only because it always passes option "file", and
"drive without media" can't happen then.
* add_init_drive() assumes drive_init() failed when it returns NULL.
This is incorrect.
Clean up drive_init() to return NULL on failure and only on failure.
Drop its parameter fatal_error.

We silently ignore multiple definitions for the same drive:

With if=none, this can become quite confusing:
$ qemu-system-x86_64 -nodefaults -vnc :1 -S -monitor stdio -drive if=none,index=1,file=tmp.qcow2,id=eins -drive if=none,index=1,file=nonexistant,id=zwei -device ide-drive,drive=eins -device ide-drive,drive=zwei
qemu-system-x86_64: -device ide-drive,drive=zwei: Property 'ide-drive.drive' can't find value 'zwei'
The second -device fails, because it refers to drive zwei, which got
silently ignored.
Make multiple drive definitions fail cleanly.
Unfortunately, there's code that relies on multiple drive definitions
being silently ignored: main() merrily adds default drives even when
the user already defined these drives. Fix that up.

Before, type & index were hidden in printf-like fmt, ... parameters,
which get expanded into an option string. Rather inconvenient for
uses later in this series.
New IF_DEFAULT to ask for the machine's default interface. Before,
that was done by having no option "if" in the option string.
