Markus Armbruster f01338cce6 qapi: Speed up frontend tests
"make check-qapi-schema" takes around 10s user + system time for me.
With -j, it takes a bit over 3s real time. We have worse tests. It's
still annoying when you work on the QAPI generator.

Some 1.4s user + system time is consumed by make figuring out what to
do, measured by making a target that does nothing. There's nothing I
can do about that right now. But let's see what we can do about the
other 8s.

Almost 7s are spent running test-qapi.py for every test case, the rest
normalizing and diffing test-qapi.py output. We have 190 test cases.

If I downgrade to python2, it's 4.5s, but python2 is a goner.

Hacking up test-qapi.py to exit(0) without doing anything makes it
only marginally faster. The problem is Python startup overhead.

Our configure puts -B into $(PYTHON). Running without -B is faster:
4.4s.

We could improve the Makefile to run test cases only when the test
case or the generator changed. But I'm after improvement in the case
where the generator changed.

test-qapi.py is designed to be the simplest possible building block
for a shell script to do the complete job (it's actually a Makefile,
not a shell script; no real difference). Python is just not meant for
that.  It's for bigger blocks.

Move the post-processing and diffing into test-qapi.py, and make it
capable of testing multiple schema files. Set executable bits while
there.

Running it once per test case now takes slightly longer than 8s. But
running it once for all of them takes under 0.2s.

Messing with the Makefile to run it only on the tests that need
retesting is clearly not worth the bother.

Expected error output changes because the new normalization strips off
$(SRCDIR)/tests/qapi-schema/ instead of just $(SRCDIR)/.

The .exit files go away, because there is no exit status to test
anymore.

Markus Armbruster eeb57c85da qapi: Avoid redundant definition references in error messages
Many error messages refer to the offending definition even though
they're preceded by an "in definition" line. Rephrase them.

Markus Armbruster 67fa64ce0e qapi: Move check for reserved names out of add_name()
The checks for reserved names are spread far and wide. Move one from
add_name() to new check_defn_name_str(). This is a first step towards
collecting them all in dedicated name checking functions next to
check_name().

While there, drop the quotes around the meta-type in
check_name_str()'s error messages: "'command' uses ... name 'NAME'"
becomes "command uses ... name 'NAME'".

Markus Armbruster d7bc17c602 qapi: Improve reporting of invalid name errors
Split check_name() into check_name_is_str() and check_name_str(), keep
check_name() as a wrapper.

Move add_name()'s call into its caller check_exprs(), and inline.

This permits delaying check_name_str() there, so its error message
gains an "in definition" line.

Markus Armbruster 87c16dceca qapi: Back out doc comments added just to please qapi.py
This reverts commit 3313b61's changes to tests/qapi-schema/, except
for tests/qapi-schema/doc-*.

We could keep some of these doc comments to serve as positive test
cases. However, they don't actually add to what we get from doc
comment use in actual schemas, as we we don't test output matches
expectations, and don't systematically cover doc comment features.
Proper positive test coverage would be nice.

Marc-André Lureau 3313b6124b qapi: add qapi2texi script
As the name suggests, the qapi2texi script converts JSON QAPI
description into a texi file suitable for different target
formats (info/man/txt/pdf/html...).

It parses the following kind of blocks:

Free-form:

  ##
  # = Section
  # == Subsection
  #
  # Some text foo with *emphasis*
  # 1. with a list
  # 2. like that
  #
  # And some code:
  # | $ echo foo
  # | -> do this
  # | <- get that
  #
  ##

Symbol description:

  ##
  # @symbol:
  #
  # Symbol body ditto ergo sum. Foo bar
  # baz ding.
  #
  # @param1: the frob to frobnicate
  # @param2: #optional how hard to frobnicate
  #
  # Returns: the frobnicated frob.
  # If frob isn't frobnicatable, GenericError.
  #
  # Since: version
  # Notes: notes, comments can have
  #        - itemized list
  #        - like this
  #
  # Example:
  #
  # -> { "execute": "quit" }
  # <- { "return": {} }
  #
  ##

That's roughly following the following EBNF grammar:

api_comment = "##\n" comment "##\n"
comment = freeform_comment | symbol_comment
freeform_comment = { "# " text "\n" | "#\n" }
symbol_comment = "# @" name ":\n" { member | tag_section | freeform_comment }
member = "# @" name ':' [ text ] "\n" freeform_comment
tag_section = "# " ( "Returns:", "Since:", "Note:", "Notes:", "Example:", "Examples:" ) [ text ]  "\n" freeform_comment
text = free text with markup

Note that the grammar is ambiguous: a line "# @foo:\n" can be parsed
both as freeform_comment and as symbol_comment. The actual parser
recognizes symbol_comment.

See docs/qapi-code-gen.txt for more details.

Deficiencies and limitations:
- the generated QMP documentation includes internal types
- union type support is lacking
- type information is lacking in generated documentation
- doc comment error message positions are imprecise, they point
  to the beginning of the comment.
- a few minor issues, all marked TODO/FIXME in the code

Eric Blake fd41dd4eae qapi: Prefer 'struct' over 'type' in generator
Referring to "type" as both a meta-type (built-in, enum, union,
alternate, or struct) and a specific type (the name that the
schema uses for declaring structs) is confusing. The confusion
is only made worse by the fact that the generator mostly already
refers to struct even when dealing with expr['type']. This
commit changes the generator to consistently refer to it as
struct everywhere, plus a single back-compat tweak that allows
accepting the existing .json files as-is, so that the meat of
this change is separate from the mindless churn of that change.

Fix the testsuite fallout for error messages that change, and
in some cases, become more legible. Improve comments to better
match our intentions where a struct (rather than any complex
type) is required. Note that in some cases, an error message
now refers to 'struct' while the schema still refers to 'type';
that will be cleaned up in the later commit to the schema.

Eric Blake c9e0a79869 qapi: Require valid names
Previous commits demonstrated that the generator overlooked various
bad naming situations:
- types, commands, and events need a valid name
- enum members must be valid names, when combined with prefix
- union and alternate branches cannot be marked optional

Valid upstream names match [a-zA-Z][a-zA-Z0-9_-]*; valid downstream
names match __[a-zA-Z][a-zA-Z0-9._-]*. Enumerations match the
weaker [a-zA-Z0-9._-]+ (in part thanks to QKeyCode picking an enum
that starts with a digit, which we can't change now due to
backwards compatibility). Rather than call out three separate
regex, this patch just uses a broader combination that allows both
upstream and downstream names, as well as a small hack that
realizes that any enum name is merely a suffix to an already valid
name prefix (that is, any enum name is valid if prepending _ fits
the normal rules).

We could reject new enumeration names beginning with a digit by
whitelisting existing exceptions. We could also be stricter
about the distinction between upstream names (no leading
underscore, no use of dot) and downstream (mandatory leading
double underscore), but it is probably not worth the bother.

Eric Blake 9050c65b71 qapi: Add some expr tests
Demonstrate that the qapi generator doesn't deal well with
expressions that aren't up to par. Later patches will improve
the expected results as the generator is made stricter. Only
a few of the the added tests actually behave sanely at
rejecting obvious problems or demonstrating success.

Note that in some cases, we reject bad QAPI merely because our
pseudo-JSON parser does not yet know how to parse numbers. This
series does not address that, but when a later series adds support
for numeric defaults of integer fields, the testsuite will ensure
that we don't lose the error (and hopefully that the error
message quality is improved).
