01b2ffcedd qapi: merge QInt and QFloat in QNum
We would like to use a same QObject type to represent numbers, whether
they are int, uint, or floats. Getters will allow some compatibility
between the various types if the number fits other representations.

Add a few more tests while at it.

46f5ac205a qobject: Use simpler QDict/QList scalar insertion macros
We now have macros in place to make it less verbose to add a scalar
to QDict and QList, so use them.

Patch created mechanically via:
  spatch --sp-file scripts/coccinelle/qobject.cocci \
    --macro-file scripts/cocci-macro-file.h --dir . --in-place
then touched up manually to fix a couple of '?:' back to original
spacing, as well as avoiding a long line in monitor.c.

de6e7951fe qobject: Drop useless QObject casts
We have macros in place to make it less verbose to add a subtype
of QObject to both QDict and QList. While we have made cleanups
like this in the past (see commit fcfcd8ffc, for example), having
it be automated by Coccinelle makes it easier to maintain.

Patch created mechanically via:
  spatch --sp-file scripts/coccinelle/qobject.cocci \
    --macro-file scripts/cocci-macro-file.h --dir . --in-place
then I verified that no manual touchups were required.

0587568780 qmp: Dumb down how we run QMP command registration
The way we get QMP commands registered is high tech:

* qapi-commands.py generates qmp_init_marshal() that does the actual work

* it also generates the magic to register it as a MODULE_INIT_QAPI
  function, so it runs when someone calls
  module_call_init(MODULE_INIT_QAPI)

* main() calls module_call_init()

QEMU needs to register a few non-qapified commands. Same high tech
works: monitor.c has its own qmp_init_marshal() along with the magic
to make it run in module_call_init(MODULE_INIT_QAPI).

QEMU also needs to unregister commands that are not wanted in this
build's configuration (commit 5032a16). Simple enough:
qmp_unregister_commands_hack(). The difficulty is to make it run
after the generated qmp_init_marshal(). We can't simply run it in
monitor.c's qmp_init_marshal(), because the order in which the
registered functions run is indeterminate. So qmp_init_marshal()
registers qmp_unregister_commands_hack() separately.  Since
registering *appends* to the list of registered functions, this will
make it run after all the functions that have been registered already.

I suspect it takes a long and expensive computer science education to
not find this silly.

Dumb it down as follows:

* Drop MODULE_INIT_QAPI entirely

* Give the generated qmp_init_marshal() external linkage.

* Call it instead of module_call_init(MODULE_INIT_QAPI)

* Except in QEMU proper, call new monitor_init_qmp_commands() that in
  turn calls the generated qmp_init_marshal(), registers the
  additional commands and unregisters the unwanted ones.

a0067da157 qapi: check invalid arguments on no-args commands
The generated marshal functions do not visit arguments from commands
that take no arguments. Thus they fail to catch invalid
members. Visit the arguments, if provided, to throw an error in case of
invalid members.

Currently, qmp_check_client_args() checks for invalid arguments and
correctly catches this case. When switching to qmp_dispatch() we want to
keep that behaviour. The commands using 'O' may have arbitrary
arguments, and must have 'gen': false in the qapi schema to skip the
generated checks.

Old/new diff:
 void qmp_marshal_stop(QDict *args, QObject **ret, Error **errp)
 {
     Error *err = NULL;
+    Visitor *v = NULL;

-    (void)args;
+    if (args) {
+        v = qmp_input_visitor_new(QOBJECT(args), true);
+        visit_start_struct(v, NULL, NULL, 0, &err);
+        if (err) {
+            goto out;
+        }
+
+        if (!err) {
+            visit_check_struct(v, &err);
+        }
+        visit_end_struct(v, NULL);
+        if (err) {
+            goto out;
+        }
+    }

     qmp_stop(&err);
+
+out:
     error_propagate(errp, err);
+    visit_free(v);
+    if (args) {
+        v = qapi_dealloc_visitor_new();
+        visit_start_struct(v, NULL, NULL, 0, NULL);
+
+        visit_end_struct(v, NULL);
+        visit_free(v);
+    }
 }

The new code closely resembles code for a command with arguments.
Differences:
- the visit of the argument and its cleanup struct don't visit any
  members (because there are none).
- the visit of the argument struct and its cleanup are conditional.

51009170d8 tests: Rename qtests which have names ending "error"
We have three qtest tests which have test names ending with "error".
This is awkward because the output of verbose test runs looks like
  /crypto/task/error:                                                  OK
  /crypto/task/thread_error:                                           OK

which gives false positives if you are grepping build logs for
errors by looking for "error:". Since there are only three tests
with this problem, just rename them all to 'failure' instead.

c818408e44 qapi: Implement boxed types for commands/events
Turn on the ability to pass command and event arguments in
a single boxed parameter, which must name a non-empty type
(although the type can be a struct with all optional members).
For structs, it makes it possible to pass a single qapi type
instead of a breakout of all struct members (useful if the
arguments are already in a struct or if the number of members
is large); for other complex types, it is now possible to use
a union or alternate as the data for a command or event.

The empty type may be technically feasible if needed down the
road, but it's easier to forbid it now and relax things to allow
it later, than it is to allow it now and have to special case
how the generated 'q_empty' type is handled (see commit 7ce106a9
for reasons why nothing is generated for the empty type). An
alternate type is never considered empty, but now that a boxed
type can be either an object or an alternate, we have to provide
a trivial QAPISchemaAlternateType.is_empty(). The new call to
arg_type.is_empty() during QAPISchemaCommand.check() requires
that we first check the type in question; but there is no chance
of introducing a cycle since objects do not refer back to commands.

We still have a split in syntax checking between ad-hoc parsing
up front (merely validates that 'boxed' has a sane value) and
during .check() methods (if 'boxed' is set, then 'data' must name
a non-empty user-defined type).

Generated code is unchanged, as long as no client uses the
new feature.

68ab47e4b4 qapi: Change visit_type_FOO() to no longer return partial objects
Returning a partial object on error is an invitation for a careless
caller to leak memory. We already fixed things in an earlier
patch to guarantee NULL if visit_start fails ("qapi: Guarantee
NULL obj on input visitor callback error"), but that does not
help the case where visit_start succeeds but some other failure
happens before visit_end, such that we leak a partially constructed
object outside visit_type_FOO(). As no one outside the testsuite
was actually relying on these semantics, it is cleaner to just
document and guarantee that ALL pointer-based visit_type_FOO()
functions always leave a safe value in *obj during an input visitor
(either the new object on success, or NULL if an error is
encountered), so callers can now unconditionally use
qapi_free_FOO() to clean up regardless of whether an error occurred.

The decision is done by adding visit_is_input(), then updating the
generated code to check if additional cleanup is needed based on
the type of visitor in use.

Note that we still leave *obj unchanged after a scalar-based
visit_type_FOO(); I did not feel like auditing all uses of
visit_type_Enum() to see if the callers would tolerate a specific
sentinel value (not to mention having to decide whether it would
be better to use 0 or ENUM__MAX as that sentinel).

240f64b6dc qapi: Use strict QMP input visitor in more places
The following uses of a QMP input visitor should be strict
(that is, excess keys in QDict input should be flagged if not
converted to QAPI):

- Testsuite code unrelated to explicitly testing non-strict
mode (test-qmp-commands, test-visitor-serialization); since
we want more code to be strict by default, having more tests
of strict mode doesn't hurt

- Code used for cloning QAPI objects (replay-input.c,
qemu-sockets.c); we are reparsing a QObject just barely
produced by the qmp output visitor and which therefore should
not have any garbage, so while it is extra work to be strict,
it validates that our clone is correct [note that a later patch
series will simplify these two uses by creating an actual
clone visitor that is much more efficient than a
generate/reparse cycle]

- qmp_object_add(), which calls into user_creatable_add_type().
Since command line parsing for '-object' uses the same
user_creatable_add_type() through the OptsVisitor, and that is
always strict, we want to ensure that any nested dictionaries
would be treated the same in QMP and from the command line (I
don't actually know if such nested dictionaries exist). Note
that on this code change, strictness only matters for nested
dictionaries (if even possible), since we already flag excess
input at the top level during an earlier object_property_set()
on an unknown key, whether from QemuOpts:

$ ./x86_64-softmmu/qemu-system-x86_64 -nographic -nodefaults -qmp stdio -object secret,id=sec0,data=letmein,format=raw,foo=bar
qemu-system-x86_64: -object secret,id=sec0,data=letmein,format=raw,foo=bar: Property '.foo' not found

or from QMP:

$ ./x86_64-softmmu/qemu-system-x86_64 -nographic -nodefaults -qmp stdio
{"QMP": {"version": {"qemu": {"micro": 93, "minor": 5, "major": 2}, "package": ""}, "capabilities": []}}
{"execute":"qmp_capabilities"}
{"return": {}}
{"execute":"object-add","arguments":{"qom-type":"secret","id":"sec0","props":{"format":"raw","data":"letmein","foo":"bar"}}}
{"error": {"class": "GenericError", "desc": "Property '.foo' not found"}}

The only remaining uses of non-strict input visits are:

- QMP 'qom-set' (which eventually executes
object_property_set_qobject()) - mark it as something to revisit
in the future (I didn't want to spend any more time on this patch
auditing if we have any QOM dictionary properties that might be
impacted, and couldn't easily prove whether this code path is
shared with anything else).

- test-qmp-input-visitor: explicit tests of non-strict mode. If
we later get rid of users that don't need strictness, then this
test should be merged with test-qmp-input-strict

fc471c18d5 qapi: Consolidate QMP input visitor creation
Rather than having two separate ways to create a QMP input
visitor, where the safer approach has the more verbose name,
it is better to consolidate things into a single function

or to ignore excess input. This patch is the strictly
mechanical conversion; the next patch will then audit which
uses can be made stricter.

32bafa8fdd qapi: Don't special-case simple union wrappers
Simple unions were carrying a special case that hid their 'data'
QMP member from the resulting C struct, via the hack method
QAPISchemaObjectTypeVariant.simple_union_type().  But by using
the work we started by unboxing flat union and alternate
branches, coupled with the ability to visit the members of an
implicit type, we can now expose the simple union's implicit
type in qapi-types.h:

| struct q_obj_ImageInfoSpecificQCow2_wrapper {
|     ImageInfoSpecificQCow2 *data;
| };
|
| struct q_obj_ImageInfoSpecificVmdk_wrapper {
|     ImageInfoSpecificVmdk *data;
| };
...
| struct ImageInfoSpecific {
|     ImageInfoSpecificKind type;
|     union { /* union tag is @type */
|         void *data;
|-        ImageInfoSpecificQCow2 *qcow2;
|-        ImageInfoSpecificVmdk *vmdk;
|+        q_obj_ImageInfoSpecificQCow2_wrapper qcow2;
|+        q_obj_ImageInfoSpecificVmdk_wrapper vmdk;
|     } u;
| };

Doing this removes asymmetry between QAPI's QMP side and its
C side (both sides now expose 'data'), and means that the
treatment of a simple union as sugar for a flat union is now
equivalent in both languages (previously the two approaches used
a different layer of dereferencing, where the simple union could
be converted to a flat union with equivalent C layout but
different {} on the wire, or to an equivalent QMP wire form
but with different C representation). Using the implicit type
also lets us get rid of the simple_union_type() hack.

Of course, now all clients of simple unions have to adjust from
using su->u.member to using su->u.member.data; while this touches
a number of files in the tree, some earlier cleanup patches
helped minimize the change to the initialization of a temporary
variable rather than every single member access. The generated
qapi-visit.c code is also affected by the layout change:

|@@ -7393,10 +7393,10 @@ void visit_type_ImageInfoSpecific_member

51e72bc1dd qapi: Swap visit_* arguments for consistent 'name' placement
JSON uses "name":value, but many of our visitor interfaces were
called with visit_type_FOO(v, &value, name, errp). This can be
a bit confusing to have to mentally swap the parameter order to
match JSON order. It's particularly bad for visit_start_struct(),
where the 'name' parameter is smack in the middle of the
otherwise-related group of 'obj, kind, size' parameters! It's
time to do a global swap of the parameter ordering, so that the
'name' parameter is always immediately after the Visitor argument.

Additional reason in favor of the swap: the existing include/qjson.h
prefers listing 'name' first in json_prop_*(), and I have plans to
unify that file with the qapi visitors; listing 'name' first in
qapi will minimize churn to the (admittedly few) qjson.h clients.

Later patches will then fix docs, object.h, visitor-impl.h, and
those clients to match.

Done by first patching scripts/qapi*.py by hand to make generated
files do what I want, then by running the following Coccinelle
script to affect the rest of the code base:
 $ spatch --sp-file script `git grep -l '\bvisit_' -- '**/*.[ch]'`
I then had to apply some touchups (Coccinelle insisted on TAB
indentation in visitor.h, and botched the signature of
visit_type_enum() by rewriting 'const char *const strings[]' to
the syntactically invalid 'const char*const[] strings'). The
movement of parameters is sufficient to provoke compiler errors
if any callers were missed.

c43567c120 qapi: Fix c_name() munging
The method c_name() is supposed to do two different actions: munge
'-' into '_', and add a 'q_' prefix to ticklish names. But it did
these steps out of order, making it possible to submit input that
is not ticklish until after munging, where the output then lacked
the desired prefix.

The failure is exposed easily if you have a compiler that recognizes
C11 keywords, and try to name a member '_Thread-local', as it would
result in trying to compile the declaration 'uint64_t _Thread_local;'
which is not valid. However, this name violates our conventions
(ultimately, want to enforce that no qapi names start with single
underscore), so the test is slightly weaker by instead testing
'wchar-t'; the declaration 'uint64_t wchar_t;' is valid in C (where
wchar_t is only a typedef) but would fail with a C++ compiler (where
it is a keyword).

Fix things by reversing the order of actions within c_name().

a12a5a1a01 qapi: Simplify error cleanup in test-qmp-*
We have several tests that perform multiple sub-actions that are
expected to fail. Asserting that an error occurred, then clearing
it up to prepare for the next action, turned into enough
boilerplate that it was sometimes forgotten (for example, a number
of tests added to test-qmp-input-visitor.c in d88f5fd leaked err).
Worse, if an error is not reset to NULL, we risk invalidating
later use of that error (passing a non-NULL err into a function
is generally a bad idea). Encapsulate the boilerplate into a
single helper function error_free_or_abort(), and consistently
use it.

The new function is added into error.c for use everywhere,
although it is anticipated that testsuites will be the main
client.

c363acef77 tests: Convert to new qapi union layout
We have two issues with our qapi union layout:
1) Even though the QMP wire format spells the tag 'type', the
C code spells it 'kind', requiring some hacks in the generator.
2) The C struct uses an anonymous union, which places all tag
values in the same namespace as all non-variant members. This
leads to spurious collisions if a tag value matches a non-variant
member's name.

Make the conversion to the new layout for testsuite code.

ddf2190896 qapi: Unbox base members
Rather than storing a base class as a pointer to a box, just
store the fields of that base class in the same order, so that
a child struct can be directly cast to its parent. This gives
less malloc overhead, less pointer dereferencing, and even less
generated code. Compare to the earlier commit 1e6c1616a "qapi:
Generate a nicer struct for flat unions" (although that patch
had fewer places to change, as less of qemu was directly using
qapi structs for flat unions). It also allows us to turn on
automatic type-safe wrappers for upcasting to the base class
of a struct.

Changes to the generated code look like this in qapi-types.h:

| struct SpiceChannel {
|-    SpiceBasicInfo *base;
|+    /* Members inherited from SpiceBasicInfo: */
|+    char *host;
|+    char *port;
|+    NetworkAddressFamily family;
|+    /* Own members: */
|     int64_t connection_id;

as well as additional upcast functions like qapi_SpiceChannel_base().
Meanwhile, changes to qapi-visit.c look like:

| static void visit_type_SpiceChannel_fields(Visitor *v, SpiceChannel **obj, Error **errp)
| {
|     Error *err = NULL;
|
|-    visit_type_implicit_SpiceBasicInfo(v, &(*obj)->base, &err);
|+    visit_type_SpiceBasicInfo_fields(v, (SpiceBasicInfo **)obj, &err);
|     if (err) {

(the cast is necessary, since our upcast wrappers only deal with a
single pointer, not pointer-to-pointer); plus the wholesale
elimination of some now-unused visit_type_implicit_FOO() functions.

Without boxing, the corner case of one empty struct having
another empty struct as its base type now requires inserting a
dummy member (previously, the 'Base *base' member sufficed).

And now that we no longer consume a 'base' member in the generated
C struct, we can delete the former negative struct-base-clash-base
test.

e3c4c3d796 qapi: Support downstream events and commands
Enhance the testsuite to cover downstream events and commands.
Events worked without more tweaks, but commands needed a few final
updates in the generator to mangle names in the appropriate places.
In making those tweaks, it was easier to drop type_visitor() and
inline its actions instead.

6446a59276 qapi: Drop tests for inline nested structs
A future patch will be using a 'name':{dictionary} entry in the
QAPI schema to specify a default value for an optional argument;
but existing use of inline nested structs conflicts with that goal.

More precisely, a definition in the QAPI schema associates a name
with a set of properties:

Example 1: { 'struct': 'Foo', 'data': { MEMBERS... } }
associates the global name 'Foo' with properties (meta-type struct)
and MEMBERS...

Example 2: 'mumble': TYPE
within MEMBERS... above associates 'mumble' with properties (type
TYPE) and (optional false) within type Foo

The syntax of example 1 is extensible; if we need another property,
we add another name/value pair to the dictionary (such as
'base':TYPE). The syntax of example 2 is not extensible, because
the right hand side can only be a type.

We have used name encoding to add a property: "'*mumble': 'int'"
associates 'mumble' with (type int) and (optional true). Nice,
but doesn't scale. So the solution is to change our existing uses
to be syntactic sugar to an extensible form:

   NAME: TYPE   --> NAME:  { 'type': TYPE, 'optional': false }
   *ONAME: TYPE --> ONAME: { 'type': TYPE, 'optional': true }

This patch fixes the testsuite to avoid inline nested types, by
breaking the nesting into explicit types; it means that the type
is now boxed instead of unboxed in C code, but makes no difference
on the wire (and if desired, a later patch could change the
generator to not do so much boxing in C). When touching code to
add new allocations, also convert existing allocations to
consistently prefer typesafe g_new0 over g_malloc0 when a type
name is involved.

b6fcf32d9b qapi: Merge UserDefTwo and UserDefNested in tests
In the testsuite, UserDefTwo and UserDefNested were identical
structs other than the member names. Reduce code duplication by
having just one type, and choose names that also favor reuse.
This will also make it easier for a later patch to get rid of
inline nested types in QAPI. When touching code related to
allocations, convert g_malloc0(sizeof(Type)) to the more typesafe
g_new0(Type, 1).

Ensure that 'make check-qapi-schema check-unit' still passes.
