On a system with a low limit of open files the initialization
of the event notifier could fail and QEMU exits without printing any
error information to the user.
The problem can be easily reproduced by enforcing a low limit of open
files and start QEMU with enough I/O threads to hit this limit.
The same problem raises, without the creation of I/O threads, while
QEMU initializes the main event loop by enforcing an even lower limit of
open files.
This commit adds an error message on failure:
# qemu [...] -object iothread,id=iothread0 -object iothread,id=iothread1
qemu: Failed to initialize event notifier: Too many open files in system

The source cache option takes the same values as the cache option. The
documentation reads a little strange because it starts with "In contrast
the src_cache option ...". The fact that this is comparing with the
previous documented option (the 'cache' option) is implicit. Readers
may be confused, especially if they jump to src_cache without reading
cache documentation first.

Always goto out in error paths so the cleanup happens. These error

Note that bdrv_unref(NULL) is safe. We just need to initialize bs to
NULL at the top of the function.
We can now remove the obsolete bs_old_backing = NULL and bs_new_backing

("qemu-img rebase") but became useless in commit c2abcce ("qemu-img:

Many qemu-img subcommands only read the source file(s) once. For these
use cases, a full write-back cache is unnecessary and mainly clutters
host cache memory. Though this is generally no concern as cache memory
is freely available and can be scaled by the host OS, it may become a
concern with thin provisioning.
For these cases, it makes sense to allow users to freely specify the
source cache mode (e.g. use no cache at all).
This commit adds a new switch (-T) for the qemu-img subcommands check,
compare, convert and rebase to specify the cache to be used for source
images (the backing file in case of rebase).

We were lucky to pass qemu-iotests 048 (qemu-img compare case) but when
I tried to run with TEST_DIR=/tmp (tmpfs), it fails with a "wrong"
mismatch offset. This fixes two bugs.
In the first if branch, setting ret to 1 before using it makes dead code
in the next line: pnum is never added to mismatch offset even if ret was
0.
In the other if branch, currently the output error is always -4:
strerror(-4) -> Unknown error -4

Snapshot creation actually already distinguish id and name since it take
a structured parameter *sn, but delete can't. Later an accurate delete
is needed in qmp_transaction abort and blockdev-snapshot-delete-sync,
so change its prototype. Also *errp is added to tip error, but return
value is kepted to let caller check what kind of error happens. Existing
caller for it are savevm, delvm and qemu-img, they are not impacted by
introducing a new function bdrv_snapshot_delete_by_id_or_name(), which
check the return value and do the operation again.
Before this patch:
For qcow2, it search id first then name to find the one to delete.
For rbd, it search name.
For sheepdog, it does nothing.
After this patch:
For qcow2, logic is the same by call it twice in caller.

in second try, no change to user.

However it is only doing this if the output image returns true for

sense if the output image is copy-on-write, because a copy-on-write

For command line options which permit '?' meaning 'please list the
permitted values', add support for 'help' as a synonym, by abstracting
the check out into a helper function.
This change means that in some cases where we were being lazy in
our string parsing, "?junk" will now be rejected as an invalid option
rather than being (undocumentedly) treated the same way as "?".
Update the documentation to use 'help' rather than '?', since '?'
is a shell metacharacter and thus prone to fail confusingly if there
is a single character filename in the current working directory and
the '?' has not been escaped. It's therefore better to steer users
towards 'help', though '?' is retained for backwards compatibility.
We do not, however, update the output of the system emulator's -help
(or any documentation autogenerated from the qemu-options.hx which
is the source of the -help text) because libvirt parses our -help
output and will break. At a later date when QEMU provides a better
interface so libvirt can avoid having to do this, we can update the
-help text too.

None of the other qemu-img subcommands uses writethrough, and there's no reason
why snapshot should be special.

This patch re-factors img_create() moving the code doing the actual
work into block.c where it can be shared with QEMU. This is needed to
be able to create images from QEMU to be used for live snapshots.

Call error_set_progname during the qemu-img initialization, so that error
messages printed with error_report() use the right prefix.

This cleans up the handling of image size in img_create() by parsing
the value early, and then only setting it once if a value has been
added as the last argument to the command line.

The qemu-img create command should check the backing format to ensure
only image files with valid backing formats are created. By checking in
qemu-img.c we can print a useful error message.

If -6 or -e is specified, an error message is printed and we exit. It
does not print help() to avoid the error message getting lost in the
noise.

This patch changes qemu-img to exit if an unknown option is detected,
instead of trying to continue with a set of arguments which may be
incorrect.

This consolidates the printing of block driver options in
print_block_option_help() which is called from both img_create() and
img_convert().
This allows for the "?" detection to be done just after the parsing of
options and the filename, instead of half way down the codepath of
these functions.
