ba3186c4e4 curl: do not use aio_context_acquire/release
Now that all bottom halves and callbacks take care of taking the
AioContext lock, we can migrate some users away from it and to a
specific QemuMutex or CoMutex.

Protect BDRVCURLState access with a QemuMutex.

4e504535c1 block/curl: Do not wait for data beyond EOF
libcurl will only give us as much data as there is, not more. The block
layer will deny requests beyond the end of file for us; but since this
block driver is still using a sector-based interface, we can still get
in trouble if the file size is not a multiple of 512.

While we have already made sure not to attempt transfers beyond the end
of the file, we are currently still trying to receive data from there if
the original request exceeds the file size. This patch fixes this issue
and invokes qemu_iovec_memset() on the iovec's tail.

ff5ca1664a block/curl: Remember all sockets
For some connection types (like FTP, generally), more than one socket
may be used (in FTP's case: control vs. data stream). As of commit
838ef60249 ("curl: Eliminate unnecessary
use of curl_multi_socket_all"), we have to remember all of the sockets
used by libcurl, but in fact we only did that for a single one. Since
one libcurl connection may use multiple sockets, however, we have to
remember them all.

4e7676571b block/curl: Fix return value from curl_read_cb
While commit 38bbc0a580 is correct in that
the callback is supposed to return the number of bytes handled; what it
does not mention is that libcurl will throw an error if the callback did
not "handle" all of the data passed to it.

Therefore, if the callback receives some data that it cannot handle
(either because the receive buffer has not been set up yet or because it
would not fit into the receive buffer) and we have to ignore it, we
still have to report that the data has been handled.

Obviously, this should not happen normally. But it does happen at least
for FTP connections where some data (that we do not expect) may be
generated when the connection is established.

23dce3873f block/curl: Drop TFTP "support"
Because TFTP does not support byte ranges, it was never usable with our
curl block driver. Since apparently nobody has ever complained loudly
enough for someone to take care of the issue until now, it seems
reasonable to assume that nobody has ever actually used it.

Therefore, it should be safe to just drop it from curl's protocol list.

[Jeff Cody: Below is additional summary pulled, with some rewording,
            from followup emails between Max and Markus, to explain what
            worked and what didn't]

TFTP would sometimes work, to a limited extent, for images <= the curl
"readahead" size, so long as reads started at offset zero. By default,
that readahead size is 256KB.

Reads starting at a non-zero offset would also have returned data from a
zero offset. It can become more complicated still, with mixed reads at
zero offset and non-zero offsets, due to data buffering.

In short, TFTP could only have worked before in very specific scenarios
with unrealistic expectations and constraints.

da34e65cb4 include/qemu/osdep.h: Don't include qapi/error.h
Commit 57cb38b included qapi/error.h into qemu/osdep.h to get the
Error typedef. Since then, we've moved to include qemu/osdep.h
everywhere. Its file comment explains: "To avoid getting into
possible circular include dependencies, this file should not include
any other QEMU headers, with the exceptions of config-host.h,
compiler.h, os-posix.h and os-win32.h, all of which are doing a
similar job to this file and are under similar constraints."
qapi/error.h doesn't do a similar job, and it doesn't adhere to
similar constraints: it includes qapi-types.h. That's in excess of
100KiB of crap most .c files don't actually need.

Add the typedef to qemu/typedefs.h, and include that instead of
qapi/error.h. Include qapi/error.h in .c files that need it and don't
get it now. Include qapi-types.h in qom/object.h for uint16List.

Update scripts/clean-includes accordingly. Update it further to match
reality: replace config.h by config-target.h, add sysemu/os-posix.h,
sysemu/os-win32.h. Update the list of includes in the qemu/osdep.h
comment quoted above similarly.

This reduces the number of objects depending on qapi/error.h from "all
of them" to less than a third. Unfortunately, the number depending on
qapi-types.h shrinks only a little. More work is needed for that one.

1bff960642 curl: add support for HTTP authentication parameters
If connecting to a web server which has authentication
turned on, QEMU gets a 401 as curl has not been configured
with any authentication credentials.

This adds 4 new parameters to the curl block driver
options 'username', 'password-secret', 'proxy-username'
and 'proxy-password-secret'. Passwords are provided using
the recently added 'secret' object type

 $QEMU \
     -object secret,id=sec0,filename=/home/berrange/example.pw \
     -object secret,id=sec1,filename=/home/berrange/proxy.pw \
     -drive driver=http,url=http://example.com/some.img,\
            username=dan,password-secret=sec0,\
            proxy-username=dan,proxy-password-secret=sec1

Of course it is possible to use the same secret for both the
proxy & server passwords if desired, or omit the proxy auth
details, or the server auth details as required.

796a060bc0 block/curl: Don't lose original error when a connection fails.
Currently if qemu is connected to a curl source (eg. web server), and
the web server fails / times out / dies, you always see a bogus EIO
"Input/output error".

For example, choose a large file located on any local webserver which
you control:

  $ qemu-img convert -p http://example.com/large.iso /tmp/test

Once it starts copying the file, stop the webserver and you will see
qemu-img fail with:

  qemu-img: error while reading sector 61440: Input/output error

This patch does two things: Firstly print the actual error from curl
so it doesn't get lost. Secondly, change EIO to EPROTO. EPROTO is a
POSIX.1 compatible errno which more accurately reflects that there was
a protocol error, rather than some kind of hardware failure.

After this patch is applied, the error changes to:

  $ qemu-img convert -p http://example.com/large.iso /tmp/test
  qemu-img: curl: transfer closed with 469989 bytes remaining to read
  qemu-img: error while reading sector 16384: Protocol error

f76faeda4b block/curl: Improve type safety of s->timeout.
qemu_opt_get_number returns a uint64_t, and curl_easy_setopt expects a

a2f468e48f curl: Don't deref NULL pointer in call to aio_poll.
In commit 63f0f45f2e the following
mechanical change was made:

+            aio_poll(state->s->aio_context, true);

The new code now checks if state is NULL and then dereferences it
('state->s') which is obviously incorrect.

This commit replaces state->s->aio_context with
bdrv_get_aio_context(bs), fixing this problem. The two other hunks
are concerned with getting the BlockDriverState pointer bs to where it

63f0f45f2e curl: implement .bdrv_detach/attach_aio_context()
The curl block driver uses fd handlers, timers, and BHs. The fd
handlers and timers are managed on behalf of libcurl, which controls
them using callback functions that the block driver implements.

The simplest way to implement .bdrv_detach/attach_aio_context() is to
clean up libcurl in the old event loop and initialize it again in the
new event loop. We do not need to keep track of anything since there
are no pending requests when the AioContext is changed.

Also make sure to use aio_set_fd_handler() instead of
qemu_aio_set_fd_handler() and aio_bh_new() instead of qemu_bh_new() so
the current AioContext is passed in.

838ef60249 curl: Eliminate unnecessary use of curl_multi_socket_all
curl_multi_socket_all is a deprecated catch-all which checks for

the event loop to check only the sockets with activity. This change
removes use of curl_multi_socket_all in favour of
curl_multi_socket_action called with the relevant handle.

At the same time, it also ensures that the driver only checks for
completion of read operations after reading from a socket, rather than

031fd1be56 block/curl: Implement the libcurl timer callback interface
libcurl versions 7.16.0 and later have a timer callback interface which
must be implemented in order for libcurl to make forward progress (it
will sometimes rely on being called back on the timeout if there are
no file descriptors registered). Implement the callback, and use a
QEMU AIO timer to ensure we prod libcurl again when it asks us to.

Based on Peter's original patch plus my fix to add curl_multi_timeout_do.
Should compile just fine even on older versions of libcurl.

I also tried copy-on-read and streaming:

    $ ./qemu-img create -f qcow2 -o \
         backing_file=http://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/releases/20/Live/x86_64/Fedora-Live-Desktop-x86_64-20-1.iso \

    $ x86_64-softmmu/qemu-system-x86_64 \

         -device ide-cd,drive=cd --enable-kvm -m 1024

Direct http usage is probably too slow, but with copy-on-read ultimately
the image does boot!

After some time, streaming gets canceled by an EIO, which needs further
investigation.

3494d65027 curl: refuse to open URL from HTTP server without range support
CURL driver requests partial data from server on guest IO req. For HTTP
and HTTPS, it uses "Range: ***" in requests, and this will not work if
server not accepting range. This patch does this check when open.

 * Removed curl_size_cb, which is not used: On one hand it's registered to
   libcurl as CURLOPT_WRITEFUNCTION, instead of CURLOPT_HEADERFUNCTION,
   which will get called with *data*, not *header*. On the other hand the
   s->len is assigned unconditionally later.

   In this gone function, the sscanf for "Content-Length: %zd", on
   (void *)ptr, which is not guaranteed to be zero-terminated, is
   potentially a security bug. So this patch fixes it as a side-effect. The
   bug is reported as: https://bugs.launchpad.net/qemu/+bug/1188943
   (Note the bug is marked "private" so you might not be able to see it)

 * Introduced curl_header_cb, which is used to parse header and mark the
   server as accepting range if "Accept-Ranges: bytes" line is seen from
   response header. If protocol is HTTP or HTTPS, but server response has
   no not this support, refuse to open this URL.

Note that python builtin module SimpleHTTPServer is an example of not
supporting range, if you need to test this driver, get a better server
or use internet URLs.

03396148bc allow qemu_iovec_from_buffer() to specify offset from which to start copying
Similar to
 qemu_iovec_memset(QEMUIOVector *qiov, size_t offset,
                   int c, size_t bytes);
the new prototype is:
 qemu_iovec_from_buf(QEMUIOVector *qiov, size_t offset,
                     const void *buf, size_t bytes);

The processing starts at offset bytes within qiov.

This way, we may copy a bounce buffer directly to
a middle of qiov.

This is exactly the same function as iov_from_buf() from
iov.c, so use the existing implementation and rename it
to qemu_iovec_from_buf() to be shorter and to match the
utility function.

As with utility implementation, we now assert that the
offset is inside actual iovec. Nothing changed for
current callers, because `offset' parameter is new.

While at it, stop using "bounce-qiov" in block/qcow2.c
and copy decrypted data directly from cluster_data
instead of recreating a temp qiov for doing that.

f785a5ae36 block/curl: Handle failed reads gracefully.
Current behaviour if a read fails is for the acb to not get finished.
This causes an infinite loop in bdrv_read_em (block.c). The read failure
never gets reported to the guest and if the error condition clears, the
process never recovers.

With this patch, when curl reports a failure we finish the acb as a
failure. This results in the guest receiving an I/O error (rather than
the read hanging indefinitely) and if the error condition subsequently
clears, retries work as expected.

The simplest test is to put an ISO on a web server you have control over
and open it with qemu-io. Then move the ISO out of the way and attempt
to read some data - you should see behaviour matching the above.

66f82ceed6 block: Open the underlying image file in generic code
Format drivers shouldn't need to bother with things like file names, but rather
just get an open BlockDriverState for the underlying protocol. This patch
introduces this behaviour for bdrv_open implementation. For protocols which
need to access the filename to open their file/device/connection/... a new
callback bdrv_file_open is introduced which doesn't get an underlying file
opened.

For now, also some of the more obscure formats use bdrv_file_open because they
open() the file themselves instead of using the block.c functions. They need to
be fixed in later patches.

6265eb26a3 don't dereference NULL after failed strdup
Most of these are obvious NULL-deref bug fixes, for example,
the ones in these files:

  block/curl.c
  net.c
  slirp/misc.c

and the first one in block/vvfat.c.
The others in block/vvfat.c may not lead to an immediate segfault, but I
traced the two schedule_rename(..., strdup(path)) uses, and a failed
strdup would appear to trigger this assertion in handle_renames_and_mkdirs:

	    assert(commit->path);

The conversion to use qemu_strdup in envlist_to_environ is not technically
needed, but does avoid a theoretical leak in the caller when strdup fails
for one value, but later succeeds in allocating another buffer(plausible,
if one string length is much larger than the others). The caller does
not know the length of the returned list, and as such can only free
pointers until it hits the first NULL. If there are non-NULL pointers
beyond the first, their buffers would be leaked. This one is admittedly
far-fetched.

The two in linux-user/main.c are worth fixing to ensure that an
OOM error is diagnosed up front, rather than letting it provoke some
harder-to-diagnose secondary error, in case of exec failure, or worse, in
case the exec succeeds but with an invalid list of command line options.
However, considering how unlikely it is to encounter a failed strdup early
in main, this isn't a big deal. Note that adding the required uses of
qemu_strdup here and in envlist.c induce link failures because qemu_strdup
is not currently in any library they're linked with. So for now, I've
omitted those changes, as well as the fixes in target-i386/helper.c
and target-sparc/helper.c.

If you'd like to see the above discussion (or anything else)
in the commit log, just let me know and I'll be happy to adjust.

Subject: [PATCH] don't dereference NULL after failed strdup

Handle failing strdup by replacing each use with qemu_strdup,
so as not to dereference NULL or trigger a failing assertion.
* block/curl.c (curl_open): s/\bstrdup\b/qemu_strdup/
* block/vvfat.c (init_directories): Likewise.
(get_cluster_count_for_direntry, check_directory_consistency): Likewise.
* net.c (parse_host_src_port): Likewise.
* slirp/misc.c (fork_exec): Likewise.

d0f2c4c602 Do not use dprintf
dprintf is already claimed by POSIX[1], and on at least one system
is implemented as a macro

8febfa2684 Add qemu_aio_process_queue()
We'll leave some AIO completions unhandled when we can't call the callback.
qemu_aio_process_queue() is used later to run any callbacks that are left and
can be run then.

c16b5a2ca0 fully split aio_pool from BlockDriver
Now that we have a separate aio pool structure we can remove those
aio pool details from BlockDriver.

Every driver supporting AIO now needs to declare a static AIOPool
with the aiocb size and the cancellation method. This cleans up the
current code considerably and will make it cleaner and more obvious
to support two different aio implementations behind a single
BlockDriver.

769ce76d0e Add HTTP protocol using curl v6
Currently Qemu can read from posix I/O and NBD. This patch adds a
third protocol to the game: HTTP.

In certain situations it can be useful to access HTTP data directly,
for example if you want to try out an http provided OS image, but
don't know if you want to download it yet.

Using this patch you can now try it on on the fly. Just use it like:

qemu -cdrom http://host/path/my.iso
