Marc-André Lureau f24bb7287d Add vhost-user-backend
Create a vhost-user-backend object that holds a connection to a
vhost-user backend (or "slave" process) and can be referenced from
virtio devices that support it. See later patches for input & gpu
usage.

Note: a previous iteration of this object made it user-creatable, and
allowed managed sub-process spawning, but that has been dropped for
now.

Paolo Bonzini 18658a3ced vhost: restrict Linux dependency to kernel vhost
vhost-user does not depend on Linux; it can run on any POSIX system.  Restrict
vhost-kernel to Linux in hw/virtio/vhost-backend.c, everything else can be
compiled on all POSIX systems.

Hikaru Nishida d5dbde4645 hostmem-file: make available memory-backend-file on POSIX-based hosts
Before this change, memory-backend-file object is valid for Linux hosts
only because hostmem-file.c is compiled only on Linux hosts.
However, other POSIX-based hosts (such as macOS) can support
memory-backend-file object in the same way as on Linux hosts.
This patch makes hostmem-file.c and related functions to be compiled on
all POSIX-based hosts to make available memory-backend-file on them.

Marc-André Lureau dbb9e0f40d Add memfd based hostmem
Add a new memory backend, similar to hostmem-file, except that it
doesn't need to create files. It also enforces memory sealing.

This backend is mainly useful for sharing the memory with other
processes.

Note that Linux supports transparent huge-pages of shmem/memfd memory
since 4.8. It is relatively easier to set up THP than a dedicate
hugepage mount point by using "madvise" in
/sys/kernel/mm/transparent_hugepage/shmem_enabled.

Since 4.14, memfd allows to set hugetlb requirement explicitly.

Pending for merge in 4.16 is memfd sealing support for hugetlb backed
memory.

Usage:
-object memory-backend-memfd,id=mem1,size=1G

Paolo Bonzini 5692399f0a backends: Introduce chr-testdev
From: Paolo Bonzini <pbonzini@redhat.com>

chr-testdev enables a virtio serial channel to be used for guest
initiated qemu exits. hw/misc/debugexit already enables guest
initiated qemu exits, but only for PC targets. chr-testdev supports
any virtio-capable target. kvm-unit-tests/arm is already making use
of this backend.

Currently there is a single command implemented, "q".  It takes a
(prefix) argument for the exit code, thus an exit is implemented by
writing, e.g. "1q", to the virtio-serial port.

It can be used as:
   $QEMU ... \
     -device virtio-serial-device \
     -device virtserialport,chardev=ctd -chardev testdev,id=ctd

or, use:
   $QEMU ... \
     -device virtio-serial-device \
     -device virtconsole,chardev=ctd -chardev testdev,id=ctd

to bind it to virtio-serial port0.

Igor Mammedov 1f07048933 add memdev backend infrastructure
Provides framework for splitting host RAM allocation/
policies into a separate backend that could be used
by devices.

Initially only legacy RAM backend is provided, which
uses memory_region_init_ram() allocator and compatible
with every CLI option that affects memory_region_init_ram().

Michael Tokarev 849d8284c5 build: convert some obj-specific CFLAGS to use new foo.o-cflags syntax
Current Makefile system allows using foo.o-cflags variables to store
object-specific CFLAGS.  Convert some usages of old syntax
(using QEMU_CFLAGS += construct) to the new syntax.

Do not touch multifile modules for now, as build system isn't ready for this.

This backend talks EGD to a CharDriverState.  A typical way to invoke this would
be:

Anthony Liguori 5c74521d24 rng-random: add an RNG backend that uses /dev/random (v3)
The filename can be overridden but it expects a non-blocking source of entropy.
A typical invocation would be:

qemu -object rng-random,id=rng0 -device virtio-rng-pci,rng=rng0

This can also be used with /dev/urandom by using the command line:

qemu -object rng-random,filename=/dev/urandom,id=rng0 \
     -device virtio-rng-pci,rng=rng0
