that can be implemented by the individual transports. At the
virtio-bus level, do common handling for host notifiers (which
is actually most of it).
Two things of note:
- When setting the host notifier, we only switch from/to the
generic ioeventfd handler. This fixes a latent bug where we
had no ioeventfd assigned for a certain window.
- We always iterate over all possible virtio queues, even though
ccw (currently) has a lower limit. It does not really matter
here.

Paolo's recent cpu.h cleanups broke legacy virtio for ppc64 LE guests (and
arm BE guests as well, even if I have not verified that). Especially, commit
"33c11879fd42 qemu-common: push cpu.h inclusion out of qemu-common.h" has
the side-effect of silently hiding the TARGET_IS_BIENDIAN macro from the
virtio memory accessors, and thus fully disabling support of endian changing
targets.
To be sure this cannot happen again, let's gather all the bi-endian bits
where they belong in include/hw/virtio/virtio-access.h.
The changes in hw/virtio/vhost.c are safe because vhost_needs_vring_endian()
is not called on a hot path and non bi-endian targets will return false
anyway.
While here, also rename TARGET_IS_BIENDIAN to be more precise: it is only for
legacy virtio and bi-endian guests.

In disabled mode, virtio-blk dataplane seems to be enabled, but flow
actually goes through the normal virtio path. This patch simplifies a bit
the handling of disabled mode. In disabled mode, virtio_blk_handle_output
might be called even if s->dataplane is not NULL.
This is a bit tricky, because the current check for s->dataplane will
always trigger, causing a continuous stream of calls to
virtio_blk_data_plane_start. Unfortunately, these calls will not
do anything. To fix this, set the "started" flag even in disabled
mode, and skip virtio_blk_data_plane_start if the started flag is true.
The resulting changes also prepare the code for the next patch, were
virtio-blk dataplane will reuse the same virtio_blk_handle_output function
as "regular" virtio-blk.
Because struct VirtIOBlockDataPlane is opaque in virtio-blk.c, we have
to move s->dataplane->started inside struct VirtIOBlock.

When adding cross-endian support, we introduced the TARGET_IS_BIENDIAN macro
and the virtio_access_is_big_endian() helper to have a branchless fast path
in the virtio memory accessors for targets that don't switch endian.
This was considered as a strong requirement at the time.
Now we have added a runtime check for virtio 1.0, which ruins the benefit
of the virtio_access_is_big_endian() helper for always little-endian targets.
With this patch, always little-endian targets stop checking for virtio 1.0,
since the result is little-endian in all cases.

given the name of the function.
This helper is only useful for vhost actually, where indeed non bi-endian

When running a fully emulated device in cross-endian conditions, including
a virtio 1.0 device offered to a big endian guest, we need to fix the vnet
headers. This is currently handled by the virtio_net_hdr_swap() function
in the core virtio-net code but it should actually be handled by the net
backend.
With this patch, virtio-net now tries to configure the backend to do the
endian fixing when the device starts (i.e. drivers sets the CONFIG_OK bit).
If the backend cannot support the requested endiannes, we have to fallback
onto virtio_net_hdr_swap(): this is recorded in the needs_vnet_hdr_swap flag,
to be used in the TX and RX paths.
Note that we reset the backend to the default behaviour (guest native
endianness) when the device stops (i.e. device status had CONFIG_OK bit and
driver unsets it). This is needed, with the linux tap backend at least,
otherwise the guest may lose network connectivity if rebooted into a
different endianness.
The current vhost-net code also tries to configure net backends. This will
be no more needed and will be reverted in a subsequent patch.

The return code of virtqueue_pop/vring_pop is unused except to check for
errors or 0. We can thus easily move allocation inside the functions
and just return a pointer to the VirtQueueElement.
The advantage is that we will be able to allocate only the space that
is needed for the actual size of the s/g list instead of the full
VIRTQUEUE_MAX_SIZE items. Currently VirtQueueElement takes about 48K
of memory, and this kind of allocation puts a lot of stress on malloc.
By cutting the size by two or three orders of magnitude, malloc can
use much more efficient algorithms.

If you run a qemu advertising VERSION_1 with an old kernel where
vhost did not yet support VERSION_1, you'll end up with a device
that is {modern pci|ccw revision 1} but does not advertise VERSION_1.
This is not a sensible configuration and is rejected by the Linux
guest drivers.
To fix this, add a ->post_plugged() callback invoked after features
have been queried that can handle the VERSION_1 bit being withdrawn
and change ccw to fall back to revision 0 if VERSION_1 is gone.
Note that pci is _not_ fixed; we'll need to rethink the approach
for the next release but at least for pci it's not a regression.

uint16_t num;
bool enabled;

This will confuse driver if migrating during initialization. Solves
this issue by:
- introduce transport specific callbacks to load and store extra
virtqueue states.
- add a new subsection for virtio to migrate transport specific modern
device state.
- implement pci specific callbacks.
- add a new property for virtio-pci for whether or not to migrate
extra state.
- compat the migration for 2.4 and elder machine types

virtio_map_sg currently fails if one of the entries it's mapping is
contigious in GPA but not HVA address space. Introduce virtio_map which
handles this by splitting sg entries.
This new API generally turns out to be a good idea since it's harder to
misuse: at least in one case the existing one was used incorrectly.
This will still fail if there's no space left in the sg, but luckily max
queue size in use is currently 256, while max sg size is 1024, so we
should be OK even is all entries happen to cross a single DIMM boundary.
Won't work well with very small DIMM sizes, unfortunately:
e.g. this will fail with 4K DIMMs where a single
request might span a large number of DIMMs.
Let's hope these are uncommon - at least we are not breaking things.
Note: virtio-scsi calls virtio_map_sg on data loaded from network, and
validates input, asserting on failure. Copy the validating code here -
it will be dropped from virtio-scsi in a follow-up patch.

A new vhost user message is added to allow QEMU to ask to vhost user backend to
broadcast a fake RARP after live migration for guest without GUEST_ANNOUNCE
capability.
This new message is sent only if the backend supports the new
VHOST_USER_PROTOCOL_F_RARP protocol feature.
The payload of this new message is the MAC address of the guest (not known by
the backend). The MAC address is copied in the first 6 bytes of a u64 to avoid
to create a new payload message type.
This new message has no equivalent ioctl so a new callback is added in the
userOps structure to send the request.
Upon reception of this new message the vhost user backend must generate and
broadcast a fake RARP request to notify the migration is terminated.

Excessive virtio_balloon inflation can cause invocation of OOM-killer,
when Linux is under severe memory pressure. Various mechanisms are
responsible for correct virtio_balloon memory management. Nevertheless it
is often the case that these control tools does not have enough time to
react on fast changing memory load. As a result OS runs out of memory and
invokes OOM-killer. The balancing of memory by use of the virtio balloon
should not cause the termination of processes while there are pages in the
balloon. Now there is no way for virtio balloon driver to free memory at
the last moment before some process get killed by OOM-killer.
This does not provide a security breach as balloon itself is running
inside Guest OS and is working in the cooperation with the host. Thus
some improvements from Guest side should be considered as normal.
To solve the problem, introduce a virtio_balloon callback which is
expected to be called from the oom notifier call chain in out_of_memory()
function. If virtio balloon could release some memory, it will make the
system return and retry the allocation that forced the out of memory
killer to run.
This behavior should be enabled if and only if appropriate feature bit
is set on the device. It is off by default.
This functionality was recently merged into vanilla Linux.

We use vhostforce to enable vhost even if Guests don't have MSI-X

This gives a very small performance gain, but the disadvantage

Currently we allocate one vhost log per vhost device. This is sub
optimal when:
- Guest has several device with vhost as backend
- Guest has multiqueue devices
In the above cases, we can avoid the memory allocation by sharing a
single vhost log among all the vhost devices. This is done through:
- Introducing a new vhost_log structure with refcnt inside.
- Using a global pointer to vhost_log structure that will be used. And
introduce helper to get the log with expected log size and helper to
- drop the refcnt to the old log.
- Each vhost device still keep track of a pointer to the log that was
used.
With above, if no resize happens, all vhost device will share a single
vhost log. During resize, a new vhost_log structure will be allocated
and made for the global pointer. And each vhost devices will drop the
refcnt to the old log.
Tested by doing scp during migration for a 2 queues virtio-net-pci.

On migration a full 64bit guest_features field is sent if one of the
high bits is set, in addition to the lower 32bit guest_features field

Currently we will try to traverse all virtqueues to find a subset that
using a specific vector. This is sub optimal when we will support
hundreds or even thousands of virtqueues. So this patch introduces a
method which could be used by transport to get all virtqueues that
using a same vector. This is done through QLISTs and the number of
QLISTs was queried through a transport specific method. When guest
setting vectors, the virtqueue will be linked and helpers for traverse
the list was also introduced.
The first user will be virtio pci which will use this to speed up
MSI-X masking and unmasking handling.

After qemu_iovec_destroy, the QEMUIOVector's size is zeroed and
the zero size ultimately is used to compute virtqueue_push's len
argument. Therefore, reads from virtio-blk devices did not
migrate their results correctly. (Writes were okay).
Save the size in virtio_blk_handle_request, and use it when the request
is completed.

Users of virtio-serial may want to know when a port becomes writable. A
port can stop accepting writes if the guest port is open but not being
read from. In this case, data gets queued up in the virtqueue, and
after the vq is full, writes to the port do not succeed.
When the guest reads off a vq element, and adds a new one for the host
to put data in, we can tell users the port is available for more writes,
via the new ->guest_writable() callback.

Because Qemu only accept an wwpn argument for vhost-scsi, we
cannot assign a tpgt. That's say tpg is transparent for Qemu, Qemu
doesn't know which tpg can boot, but vhost-scsi driver module
doesn't know too for one assigned wwpn.
At present, we assume that the first tpg can boot only, and add
a boot_tpgt property that defaults to 0. Of course, people can

The complete merge logic is moved into virtio-blk.c which has
been the only user of request merging ever since. This is required
to be able to merge chunks of requests and immediately invoke callbacks
for those requests. Secondly, this is required to switch to
direct invocation of coroutines which is planned at a later stage.

The 'config' field in the VirtIOSerial structure keeps a copy of the virtio
console's config space as visible to the guest, that is to say, in guest
endianness. This is fiddly to maintain, because on some targets, such as
powerpc, the "guest endianness" can change when a new guest OS boots.
In fact, there's no need to maintain such a guest view of config space -
instead we can reconstruct it from host-format data when it is accessed

Device models should access their block backends only through the
block-backend.h API. Convert them, and drop direct includes of
inappropriate headers.
Just four uses of BlockDriverState are left:
* The Xen paravirtual block device backend (xen_disk.c) opens images
itself when set up via xenbus, bypassing blockdev.c. I figure it
should go through qmp_blockdev_add() instead.
* Device model "usb-storage" prompts for keys. No other device model
does, and this one probably shouldn't do it, either.
* ide_issue_trim_cb() uses bdrv_aio_discard() instead of
blk_aio_discard() because it fishes its backend out of a BlockAIOCB,
which has only the BlockDriverState.
* PC87312State has an unused BlockDriverState[] member.

This implements the core part of dataplane feature of virtio-scsi.
A few fields are added in VirtIOSCSICommon to maintain the dataplane
status. These fields are managed by a new source file:
virtio-scsi-dataplane.c.
Most code in this file will run on an iothread, unless otherwise
commented as in a global mutex context, such as those functions to
start, stop and setting the iothread property.
Upon start, we set up guest/host event notifiers, in a same way as
virtio-blk does. The handlers then pop request from vring and call into
virtio-scsi.c functions to process it. So we need to make sure make all
those called functions work with iothread, too.

The plan is to add new accounting metrics (latency, invalid requests, failed
requests, queue depth) and block.c is overpopulated so it will be better to work
in a separate module.
Moreover the long term plan is to have statistics in each of the BDS of the graph
for metrology purpose; this means that the device model statistics must move from
the topmost BDS to the device model.
So we need to decouple the statistic code from BlockDriverState.
This is another argument for the extraction of the code in a separate module.

Right now starting a machine with virtio-scsi and a <= 2.0 machine type
fails with:
qemu-system-x86_64: -device virtio-scsi-pci: Property .any_layout not found
This is because the any_layout bit was actually never set after
virtio-scsi was changed to support arbitrary layout for virtio buffers.
(This was just a cleanup and a preparation for virtio 1.0; no guest
actually checks the bit, but the new request parsing algorithms are
tested even with old guest).

The memory allocation between hw/block/virtio-blk.c,
hw/block/dataplane/virtio-blk.c, and hw/virtio/dataplane/vring.c is
messy. Structs are allocated in different files than they are freed in.
This is risky and makes memory leaks easier.
Embed VirtQueueElement in VirtIOBlockReq to reduce the amount of memory
allocation we need to juggle. This also makes vring.c and virtio.c
slightly more similar.

VirtQueueElement is allocated in vring_pop() so it seems to make sense
that vring_push() should free it. Alas, virtio-blk frees
VirtQueueElement itself in virtio_blk_free_request().
This patch solves a double-free assertion in glib's g_slice_free().
Rename vring_free_element() to vring_unmap_element() since it no longer
frees the VirtQueueElement.

Move the x-data-plane property. Originally it was outside since not
every transport may wish to support dataplane. But that makes little
sense when we have a dedicated CONFIG_VIRTIO_BLK_DATA_PLANE ifdef

This move makes it easier to switch to property aliases in the next

It becomes unwiedly to duplicate all virtio-blk qdev property
definitions due to an #ifdef. The C preprocessor syntax makes it a
little hard to resolve this cleanly but we can extract the #ifdef and
call a macro it defines later.
Avoiding duplication is important since it will only get worse when we
move the x-data-plane qdev property here too. We'd have a combinatorial
explosion since x-data-plane has its own #ifdef.

This is the virtio-access.h header file taken from Rusty's "endian-ambivalent
targets using legacy virtio" patch. It introduces helpers that should be used
when accessing vring data or by drivers for data that contains headers.
The virtio config space is also target endian, but the current code already
handles that with the virtio_is_big_endian() helper. There is no obvious
benefit at using the virtio accessors in this case.
Now we have two distinct paths: a fast inline one for fixed endian targets,
and a slow out-of-line one for targets that define the new TARGET_IS_BIENDIAN
macro.

Some CPU families can dynamically change their endianness. This means we
can have little endian ppc or big endian arm guests for example. This has
an impact on legacy virtio data structures since they are target endian.
We hence introduce a new property to track the endianness of each virtio
device. It is reasonnably assumed that endianness won't change while the
device is in use : we hence capture the device endianness when it gets
reset.
We migrate this property in a subsection, after the device descriptor. This
means the load code must not rely on it until it is restored. As a consequence,
the vring sanity checks had to be moved after the call to vmstate_load_state().
We enforce paranoia by poisoning the property at the begining of virtio_load().

We currently have a virtio_is_big_endian() helper that provides the target
endianness to the virtio code. As of today, the helper returns a fixed
compile-time value. Of course, this will have to change if we want to
support target endianness changes at run-time.
Let's move the TARGET_WORDS_BIGENDIAN bits out to a new helper and have
virtio_is_big_endian() implemented on top of it.
This patch doesn't change any functionality.
