This is a change in behavior, so all instances need a good

qed already had a comment that suggests it always expected
bdrv_truncate()/blk_truncate() to behave as if exact=true were passed

We have two drivers (iscsi and file-posix) that (in some cases) return
success from their .bdrv_co_truncate() implementation if the block
device is larger than the requested offset, but cannot be shrunk. Some
callers do not want that behavior, so this patch adds a new parameter
that they can use to turn off that behavior.
This patch just adds the parameter and lets the block/io.c and
block/block-backend.c functions pass it around. All other callers
always pass false and none of the implementations evaluate it, so that
this patch does not change existing behavior. Future patches take care
of that.

There is no reason why the format drivers need to truncate the protocol
node when formatting it. When using the old .bdrv_co_create_ops()
interface, the file will be created with no size option anyway, which
generally gives it a size of 0. (Exceptions are block devices, which
cannot be truncated anyway.)
When using blockdev-create, the user must have given the file node some
size anyway, so there is no reason why we should override that.
qed is an exception, it needs the file to start completely empty (as
explained by c743849bee).

vhdx and parallels call bdrv_has_zero_init() when they do not really
care about an image's post-create state but only about what happens when
you grow an image. That is a bit ugly, and also overly safe when
growing preallocated images without preallocating the new areas.

Configuration flows through the block subsystem in a rather peculiar
way. Configuration made with -drive enters it as QemuOpts.
Configuration made with -blockdev / blockdev-add enters it as QAPI
type BlockdevOptions. The block subsystem uses QDict, QemuOpts and
QAPI types internally. The precise flow is next to impossible to
explain (I tried for this commit message, but gave up after wasting
several hours). What I can explain is a flaw in the BlockDriver
interface that leads to this bug:
$ qemu-system-x86_64 -blockdev node-name=n1,driver=nfs,server.type=inet,server.host=localhost,path=/foo/bar,user=1234
qemu-system-x86_64: -blockdev node-name=n1,driver=nfs,server.type=inet,server.host=localhost,path=/foo/bar,user=1234: Internal error: parameter user invalid
QMP blockdev-add is broken the same way.
Here's what happens. The block layer passes configuration represented
as flat QDict (with dotted keys) to BlockDriver methods
.bdrv_file_open(). The QDict's members are typed according to the
QAPI schema.
nfs_file_open() converts it to QAPI type BlockdevOptionsNfs, with
qdict_crumple() and a qobject input visitor.
This visitor comes in two flavors. The plain flavor requires scalars
to be typed according to the QAPI schema. That's the case here. The
keyval flavor requires string scalars. That's not the case here.
nfs_file_open() uses the latter, and promptly falls apart for members
@user, @group, @tcp-syn-count, @readahead-size, @page-cache-size,
@debug.
Switching to the plain flavor would fix -blockdev, but break -drive,
because there the scalars arrive in nfs_file_open() as strings.
The proper fix would be to replace the QDict by QAPI type
BlockdevOptions in the BlockDriver interface. Sadly, that's beyond my
reach right now.
Next best would be to fix the block layer to always pass correctly
typed QDicts to the BlockDriver methods. Also beyond my reach.
What I can do is throw another hack onto the pile: have
nfs_file_open() convert all members to string, so use of the keyval
flavor actually works, by replacing qdict_crumple() by new function
qdict_crumple_for_keyval_qiv().
The pattern "pass result of qdict_crumple() to
qobject_input_visitor_new_keyval()" occurs several times more:
* qemu_rbd_open()
Same issue as nfs_file_open(), but since BlockdevOptionsRbd has only
string members, its only a latent bug. Fix it anyway.
* parallels_co_create_opts(), qcow_co_create_opts(),
qcow2_co_create_opts(), bdrv_qed_co_create_opts(),
sd_co_create_opts(), vhdx_co_create_opts(), vpc_co_create_opts()
These work, because they create the QDict with
qemu_opts_to_qdict_filtered(), which creates only string scalars.
The function sports a TODO comment asking for better typing; that's
going to be fun. Use qdict_crumple_for_keyval_qiv() to be safe.

There are numerous QDict functions that have been introduced for and are
used only by the block layer. Move their declarations into an own
header file to reflect that.
While qdict_extract_subqdict() is in fact used outside of the block
layer (in util/qemu-config.c), it is still a function related very
closely to how the block layer works with nested QDicts, namely by
sometimes flattening them. Therefore, its declaration is put into this
header as well and util/qemu-config.c includes it with a comment stating
exactly which function it needs.

We have too many driver callback interfaces; simplify the mess
somewhat by merging the flags parameter of .bdrv_co_writev_flags()
into .bdrv_co_writev(). Note that as long as a driver doesn't set
.supported_write_flags, the flags argument will be 0 and behavior is
identical. Also note that the public function bdrv_co_writev() still
lacks a flags argument; so the driver signature is thus intentionally
slightly different. But that's not the end of the world, nor the first
time that the driver interface differs slightly from the public
interface.
Ideally, we should be rewriting all of these drivers to use modern
byte-based interfaces. But that's a more invasive patch to write

blk_new_open() is a convenience function that processes flags rather
than QDict options as a simple way to just open an image file.
In order to keep it convenient in the future, it must automatically
request the necessary permissions. This can easily be inferred from the
flags for read and write, but we need another flag that tells us whether
to get the resize permission.
We can't just always request it because that means that no block jobs
can run on the resulting BlockBackend (which is something that e.g.
qemu-img commit wants to do), but we also can't request it never because
most of the .bdrv_create() implementations call blk_truncate().
The solution is to introduce another flag that is passed by all users
that want to resize the image.

The way that attaching bs->file worked was a bit unusual in that it was
the only child that would be attached to a node which is not opened yet.
Because of this, the block layer couldn't know yet which permissions the
driver would eventually need.
This patch moves the point where bs->file is attached to the beginning
of the individual .bdrv_open() implementations, so drivers already know
what they are going to do with the child. This is also more consistent
with how driver-specific children work.
For a moment, bdrv_open() gets its own BdrvChild to perform image
probing, but instead of directly assigning this BdrvChild to the BDS, it
becomes a temporary one and the node name is passed as an option to the
drivers, so that they can simply use bdrv_open_child() to create another
reference for their own use.
This duplicated child for (the not opened yet) bs is not the final
state, a follow-up patch will change the image probing code to use a
BlockBackend, which is completely independent of bs.

But without a way to actually request BDRV_REQ_FUA during a

Commit 57cb38b included qapi/error.h into qemu/osdep.h to get the
Error typedef. Since then, we've moved to include qemu/osdep.h
everywhere. Its file comment explains: "To avoid getting into
possible circular include dependencies, this file should not include
any other QEMU headers, with the exceptions of config-host.h,
compiler.h, os-posix.h and os-win32.h, all of which are doing a
similar job to this file and are under similar constraints."
qapi/error.h doesn't do a similar job, and it doesn't adhere to
similar constraints: it includes qapi-types.h. That's in excess of
100KiB of crap most .c files don't actually need.
Add the typedef to qemu/typedefs.h, and include that instead of
qapi/error.h. Include qapi/error.h in .c files that need it and don't
get it now. Include qapi-types.h in qom/object.h for uint16List.
Update scripts/clean-includes accordingly. Update it further to match
reality: replace config.h by config-target.h, add sysemu/os-posix.h,
sysemu/os-win32.h. Update the list of includes in the qemu/osdep.h
comment quoted above similarly.
This reduces the number of objects depending on qapi/error.h from "all
of them" to less than a third. Unfortunately, the number depending on
qapi-types.h shrinks only a little. More work is needed for that one.

Before this patch, blk_new() automatically assigned a name to the new
BlockBackend and considered it referenced by the monitor. This patch
removes the implicit monitor_add_blk() call from blk_new() (and
consequently the monitor_remove_blk() call from blk_delete(), too) and
thus blk_new() (and related functions) no longer take a BB name
argument.
In fact, there is only a single point where blk_new()/blk_new_open() is
called and the new BB is monitor-owned, and that is in blockdev_init().
Besides thus relieving us from having to invent names for all of the BBs
we use in qemu-img, this fixes a bug where qemu cannot create a new
image if there already is a monitor-owned BB named "image".
If a BB and its BDS tree are created in a single operation, as of this
patch the BDS tree will be created before the BB is given a name
(whereas it was the other way around before). This results in minor

Plain image expansion spends a lot of time to update image file size.
This seriously affects the performance. The following simple test
qemu_img create -f parallels -o cluster_size=64k ./1.hds 64G
qemu_io -n -c "write -P 0x11 0 1024M" ./1.hds

in the image file with a reasonable chunk.
This patch preallocates 128 Mb using bdrv_write_zeroes, which should
normally use fallocate() call inside. Fallback to older truncate()

This is preparational commit for tweaks in Parallels image expansion.
The idea is that enlarge via truncate by one data block is slow. It
would be much better to use fallocate via bdrv_write_zeroes and
expand by some significant amount at once.
Original idea with sequential file writing to the end of the file without
fallocate/truncate would be slower than this approach if the image is
expanded with several operations:
- each image expanding means file metadata update, i.e. filesystem
journal write. Truncate/write to newly truncated space update file
metadata twice thus truncate removal helps. With fallocate call
inside bdrv_write_zeroes file metadata is updated only once and
this should happen infrequently thus this approach is the best one
for the image expansion
- tail writes are ordered, i.e. the guest IO queue could not be sent
immediately to the host introducing additional IO delays
This patch just adds proper parameters into BDRVParallelsState and
performs options parsing in parallels_open.

The idea is that we do not need to immediately sync BAT to the image as
from the guest point of view there is a possibility that IO is lost
even in the physical controller until flush command was finished.
bdrv_co_flush_to_os is exactly the right place for this purpose.
Technically the patch uses loaded BAT data as a cache and performs
actual on-disk metadata updates in parallels_co_flush_to_os callback.
This patch speed ups

The software driver must set inuse field in Parallels header to
0x746F6E59 when the image is opened in read-write mode. The presence of
this magic in the header on open forces image consistency check.
There is an unfortunate trick here. We can not check for inuse in

that for simple check, but during the fix this would always report
an error as the image was opened in BDRV_O_RDWR mode. Thus we save

Main approach is taken from qcow2_co_readv.
The patch drops coroutine lock for the duration of IO operation and
peforms normal scatter-gather IO using standard QEMU backend.
The patch also adds comment about locking considerations in the driver.

Switch the .bdrv_read method implementation from using bdrv_pread() to

Besides, since bdrv_read() operates in sectors rather than bytes, adjust

g_new(T, n) is safer than g_malloc(sizeof(*v) * n) for two reasons.
One, it catches multiplication overflowing size_t. Two, it returns
T * rather than void *, which lets the compiler catch more type
errors.
Perhaps a conversion to g_malloc_n() would be neater in places, but
that's merely four years old, and we can't use such newfangled stuff.
This commit only touches allocations with size arguments of the form
sizeof(T), plus two that use 4 instead of sizeof(uint32_t). We can
make the others safe by converting to g_malloc_n() when it becomes
available to us in a couple of years.

Parallels has released in the recent updates of Parallels Server 5/6
new addition to his image format. Images with signature WithouFreSpacExt
have offsets in the catalog coded not as offsets in sectors (multiple
of 512 bytes) but offsets coded in blocks (i.e. header->tracks * 512)
In this case all 64 bits of header->nb_sectors are used for image size.
This patch implements support of this for qemu-img and also adds specific
check for an incorrect image. Images with block size greater than
INT_MAX/513 are not supported. The biggest available Parallels image
cluster size in the field is 1 Mb. Thus this limit will not hurt
anyone.

Parallels image format has several additional fields inside:
- nb_sectors is actually 64 bit wide. Upper 32bits are not used for
images with signature "WithoutFreeSpace" and must be explicitly
zeroed according to Parallels. They will be used for images with
signature "WithouFreSpacExt"
- inuse is magic which means that the image is currently opened for
read/write or was not closed correctly, the magic is 0x746f6e59
- data_off is the location of the first data block. It can be zero
and in this case data starts just beyond the header aligned to
512 bytes. Though this field does not matter for read-only driver
This patch adds these values to struct parallels_header and adds
proper handling of nb_sectors for currently supported WithoutFreeSpace
images.
WithouFreSpacExt will be covered in next patches.
