68fa5f552a mips: jazz: Renovate coding style
The script checkpatch.pl located in scripts folder was
used to detect all errors and warrnings in files:
    hw/mips/mips_jazz.c
    hw/display/jazz_led.c
    hw/dma/rc4030.c

All these mips jazz machine files were edited and
all the errors and warrings generated by the checkpatch.pl
script were corrected and then the script was
ran again to make sure there are no more errors and warnings.

b01422622b ptimer: Rename ptimer_init() to ptimer_init_with_bh()
Currently the ptimer design uses a QEMU bottom-half as its
mechanism for calling back into the device model using the
ptimer when the timer has expired. Unfortunately this design
is fatally flawed, because it means that there is a lag
between the ptimer updating its own state and the device
callback function updating device state, and guest accesses
to device registers between the two can return inconsistent
device state.

We want to replace the bottom-half design with one where
the guest device's callback is called either immediately
(when the ptimer triggers by timeout) or when the device
model code closes a transaction-begin/end section (when the
ptimer triggers because the device model changed the
ptimer's count value or other state). As the first step,
rename ptimer_init() to ptimer_init_with_bh(), to free up
the ptimer_init() name for the new API. We can then convert
all the ptimer users away from ptimer_init_with_bh() before
removing it entirely.

(Commit created with
 git grep -l ptimer_init | xargs sed -i -e 's/ptimer_init/ptimer_init_with_bh/'
and three overlong lines folded by hand.)

00b0fd4883 hw/dma/xilinx_axi: Use object_initialize_child for correct ref. counting
As explained in commit aff39be0ed:

  Both functions, object_initialize() and object_property_add_child()
  increase the reference counter of the new object, so one of the
  references has to be dropped afterwards to get the reference
  counting right. Otherwise the child object will not be properly
  cleaned up when the parent gets destroyed.
  Thus let's use now object_initialize_child() instead to get the
  reference counting here right.

54d31236b9 sysemu: Split sysemu/runstate.h off sysemu/sysemu.h
sysemu/sysemu.h is a rather unfocused dumping ground for stuff related
to the system-emulator.  Evidence:

* It's included widely: in my "build everything" tree, changing
  sysemu/sysemu.h still triggers a recompile of some 1100 out of 6600
  objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on
  qemu/osdep.h, down from 5400 due to the previous two commits).

* It pulls in more than a dozen additional headers.

Split stuff related to run state management into its own header
sysemu/runstate.h.

Touching sysemu/sysemu.h now recompiles some 850 objects. qemu/uuid.h
also drops from 1100 to 850, and qapi/qapi-types-run-state.h from 4400
to 4200. Touching new sysemu/runstate.h recompiles some 500 objects.

Since I'm touching MAINTAINERS to add sysemu/runstate.h anyway, also
add qemu/main-loop.h.

d5938f29fe Clean up inclusion of sysemu/sysemu.h
In my "build everything" tree, changing sysemu/sysemu.h triggers a
recompile of some 5400 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and
objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h).

Almost a third of its inclusions are actually superfluous. Delete
them. Downgrade two more to qapi/qapi-types-run-state.h, and move one
from char/serial.h to char/serial.c.

hw/semihosting/config.c, monitor/monitor.c, qdev-monitor.c, and
stubs/semihost.c define variables declared in sysemu/sysemu.h without
including it. The compiler is cool with that, but include it anyway.

This doesn't reduce actual use much, as it's still included into
widely included headers. The next commit will tackle that.

a27bd6c779 Include hw/qdev-properties.h less
In my "build everything" tree, changing hw/qdev-properties.h triggers
a recompile of some 2700 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and
objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h).

Many places including hw/qdev-properties.h (directly or via hw/qdev.h)
actually need only hw/qdev-core.h. Include hw/qdev-core.h there
instead.

hw/qdev.h is actually pointless: all it does is include hw/qdev-core.h
and hw/qdev-properties.h, which in turn includes hw/qdev-core.h.
Replace the remaining uses of hw/qdev.h by hw/qdev-properties.h.

While there, delete a few superfluous inclusions of hw/qdev-core.h.

Touching hw/qdev-properties.h now recompiles some 1200 objects.

82f5181777 kconfig: introduce kconfig files

    set fnord `git grep -lw $i -- 'hw/*/Makefile.objs' `
    shift
    if test $# = 1; then
      cat >> $(dirname $1)/Kconfig << EOF
config ${i#CONFIG_}
    bool

EOF
      git add $(dirname $1)/Kconfig

    if test -d $i && ! test -f $i/Kconfig; then
      touch $i/Kconfig
      git add $i/Kconfig
    fi
  done

Whenever a symbol is referenced from multiple subdirectories, the
script prints the list of directories that reference the symbol.
These symbols have to be added manually to the Kconfig files.

Kconfig.host and hw/Kconfig were created manually.

b85fad1588 hw/dma/pl080: Remove hw_error() if DMA is enabled
The PL08x model currently will unconditionally call hw_error()
if the DMA engine is enabled by the guest. This has been
present since the PL080 model was edded in 2006, and is
presumably either unintentional debug code left enabled,
or a guard against untested DMA engine code being used.

Remove the hw_error(), since we now have a guest which
will actually try to use the DMA engine (the self-test
binary for the AN505 MPS2 FPGA image).

112a829f8f hw/dma/pl080: Don't use CPU address space for DMA accesses
Currently our PL080/PL081 model uses a combination of the CPU's
address space (via cpu_physical_memory_{read,write}()) and the
system address space for performing DMA accesses.

For the PL081s in the MPS FPGA images, their DMA accesses
must go via Master Security Controllers. Switch the
PL080/PL081 model to take a MemoryRegion property which
defines its downstream for making DMA accesses.

Since the PL08x are only used in two board models, we
make provision of the 'downstream' link mandatory and convert
both users at once, rather than having it be optional with
a default to the system address space.

6d0ed6ba6c hw/dma/pl080: Support all three interrupt lines
The PL080 and PL081 have three outgoing interrupt lines:
 * DMACINTERR signals DMA errors

We currently only implement DMACINTR, because that's all the
realview and versatile boards needed, but the instances of the
PL081 in the MPS2 firmware images use all three interrupt lines.

265b578c58 object: fix OBJ_PROP_LINK_UNREF_ON_RELEASE ambivalence
A link property can be set during creation, with
object_property_add_link() and later with object_property_set_link().

add_link() doesn't add a reference to the target object, while
set_link() does.

Furthemore, OBJ_PROP_LINK_UNREF_ON_RELEASE flags, set during add_link,
says whether a reference must be released when the property is destroyed.
This can lead to leaks if the property was later set_link(), as the
added reference is never released.

Instead, rename OBJ_PROP_LINK_UNREF_ON_RELEASE to OBJ_PROP_LINK_STRONG
and use that has an indication on how the link handle reference
management in set_link().

4968a2c6ed hw/dma/i82374: Avoid double creation of the 82374 controller
QEMU fails when used with the following command line:

    ./ppc64-softmmu/qemu-system-ppc64 -S -machine 40p -device i82374
    qemu-system-ppc64: hw/isa/isa-bus.c:110: isa_bus_dma: Assertion `!bus->dma[0] && !bus->dma[1]' failed.

The 40p machine type already creates the device i82374. If specified in the
command line, it will try to create it again, hence generating the error. The
function isa_bus_dma() isn't supposed to be called twice for the same bus.
Check the bus doesn't already have a DMA controller registered before creating
the device.

2562755ee7 maint: Fix macros with broken 'do/while(0); ' usage
The point of writing a macro embedded in a 'do { ... } while (0)'
loop (particularly if the macro has multiple statements or would
otherwise end with an 'if' statement) is so that the macro can be
used as a drop-in statement with the caller supplying the
trailing ';'. Although our coding style frowns on brace-less 'if':
  if (cond)
    statement;
  else
    something else;
that is the classic case where failure to use do/while(0) wrapping
would cause the 'else' to pair with any embedded 'if' in the macro
rather than the intended outer 'if'. But conversely, if the macro
includes an embedded ';', then the same brace-less coding style
would now have two statements, making the 'else' a syntax error
rather than pairing with the outer 'if'. Thus, even though our
coding style with required braces is not impacted, ending a macro
with ';' makes our code harder to port to projects that use
brace-less styles.

The change should have no semantic impact. I was not able to
fully compile-test all of the changes (as some of them are
examples of the ugly bit-rotting debug print statements that are
completely elided by default, and I didn't want to recompile
with the necessary -D witnesses - cleaning those up is left as a
bite-sized task for another day); I did, however, audit that for
all files touched, all callers of the changed macros DID supply
a trailing ';' at the callsite, and did not appear to be used
as part of a brace-less conditional.

Found mechanically via: $ git grep -B1 'while (0);' | grep -A1 \\\\

4ca3d368d2 sparc32_dma: remove is_ledma hack and replace with memory region alias
This hack originated from before the memory region API was introduced, and

With the memory API we can now simply alias the incorrect access onto its

6aa62ed6b8 sparc32_dma: introduce new SPARC32_DMA type container object
Create a new SPARC32_DMA container object (including an appropriate container
memory region) and add instances of the SPARC32_ESPDMA_DEVICE and
SPARC32_LEDMA_DEVICE as child objects. The benefit is that most of the gpio
wiring complexity between esp/espdma and lance/ledma is now hidden within the
SPARC32_DMA realize function.

Since the sun4m IOMMU is already QOMified we can find a reference to
it using object_resolve_path_type() allowing us to completely remove all external
references to the iommu pointer.

Finally we rework sun4m's sparc32_dma_init() to invoke the new SPARC32_DMA object
and wire up the remaining board memory regions/IRQs.

3df9d74806 memory/iommu: QOM'fy IOMMU MemoryRegion
This defines new QOM object - IOMMUMemoryRegion - with MemoryRegion
as a parent.

This moves IOMMU-related fields from MR to IOMMU MR. However to avoid
dymanic QOM casting in fast path (address_space_translate, etc),
this adds an @is_iommu boolean flag to MR and provides new helper to
do simple cast to IOMMU MR - memory_region_get_iommu. The flag
is set in the instance init callback. This defines
memory_region_is_iommu as memory_region_get_iommu()!=NULL.

This switches MemoryRegion to IOMMUMemoryRegion in most places except
the ones where MemoryRegion may be an alias.

a9859c90a5 xilinx: Fix latent error handling bug
Assigning directly to *errp is not valid, as errp may be null,
&error_fatal, or &error_abort. The !*errp conditional protects
against the latter two, but we then leak @local_err. Fortunately,
the qdev core always passes pointer to null, so this is "merely" a
latent bug.

Use error_propagate() instead.

bf55b7afce memory: tune last param of iommu_ops.translate()
This patch converts the old "is_write" bool into IOMMUAccessFlags. The
difference is that "is_write" can only express either read/write, but
sometimes what we really want is "none" here (neither read nor write).
Replay is an good example - during replay, we should not check any RW
permission bits since thats not an actual IO at all.

e90f2a8c3e qdev: Replace cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet with !user_creatable
cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet was introduced by commit
efec3dd631 to replace no_user. It was
supposed to be a temporary measure.

When it was introduced, we had 54
cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet=true lines in the code.
Today (3 years later) this number has not shrunk: we now have
57 cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet=true lines. I think it
is safe to say it is not a temporary measure, and we won't see
the flag go away soon.

Instead of a long field name that misleads people to believe it
is temporary, replace it a shorter and less misleading field:
user_creatable.

Except for code comments, changes were generated using the
following Coccinelle patch:

59046ec29a migration: consolidate VMStateField.start
The member VMStateField.start is used for two things, partial data
migration for VBUFFER data (basically provide migration for a
sub-buffer) and for locating next in QTAILQ.

The implementation of the VBUFFER feature is broken when VMSTATE_ALLOC
is used. This however goes unnoticed because actually partial migration
for VBUFFER is not used at all.

Let's consolidate the usage of VMStateField.start by removing support
for partial migration for VBUFFER.

73bcb24d93 Replaced get_tick_per_sec() by NANOSECONDS_PER_SECOND
This patch replaces get_ticks_per_sec() calls with the macro
NANOSECONDS_PER_SECOND. Also, as there are no callers, get_ticks_per_sec()
is then removed. This replacement improves the readability and
understandability of code.

For example,

    timer_mod(fdctrl->result_timer,
	      qemu_clock_get_ns(QEMU_CLOCK_VIRTUAL) + (get_ticks_per_sec() / 50));

NANOSECONDS_PER_SECOND makes it obvious that qemu_clock_get_ns

da34e65cb4 include/qemu/osdep.h: Don't include qapi/error.h
Commit 57cb38b included qapi/error.h into qemu/osdep.h to get the
Error typedef. Since then, we've moved to include qemu/osdep.h
everywhere. Its file comment explains: "To avoid getting into
possible circular include dependencies, this file should not include
any other QEMU headers, with the exceptions of config-host.h,
compiler.h, os-posix.h and os-win32.h, all of which are doing a
similar job to this file and are under similar constraints."
qapi/error.h doesn't do a similar job, and it doesn't adhere to
similar constraints: it includes qapi-types.h. That's in excess of
100KiB of crap most .c files don't actually need.

Add the typedef to qemu/typedefs.h, and include that instead of
qapi/error.h. Include qapi/error.h in .c files that need it and don't
get it now. Include qapi-types.h in qom/object.h for uint16List.

Update scripts/clean-includes accordingly. Update it further to match
reality: replace config.h by config-target.h, add sysemu/os-posix.h,
sysemu/os-win32.h. Update the list of includes in the qemu/osdep.h
comment quoted above similarly.

This reduces the number of objects depending on qapi/error.h from "all
of them" to less than a third. Unfortunately, the number depending on
qapi-types.h shrinks only a little. More work is needed for that one.
