The Error ** argument must be NULL, &error_abort, &error_fatal, or a
pointer to a variable containing NULL. Passing an argument of the
latter kind twice without clearing it in between is wrong: if the
first call sets an error, it no longer points to NULL for the second
call.
pci_proxy_dev_realize() is wrong that way: it passes @errp to
qio_channel_new_fd() without checking for failure. If it runs into
another failure, it trips error_setv()'s assertion.
Fix it to check for failure properly.

spapr_mce_req_event() makes an effort to prevent migration from
degrading the reporting of FWNMIs. It adds a migration blocker when
it receives one, and deletes it when it's done handling it. This is a
best effort.
Commit 2500fb423a "migration: Include migration support for machine
check handling" tried to explain this in a comment. Rewrite the
comment for clarity, and reposition it to make it clear it applies to
all failure modes, not just "migration already in progress".

This causes it to jump to the end of the method, skipping

This reverts commit 0cf8882fd0.
Which this commit, with aarch64 when using efi PCI devices with IO ports
do not work. The reason is that EFI creates I/O port mappings below
0x1000 (in fact, at 0). However Linux, for legacy reasons, does not
support I/O ports <= 0x1000 on PCI, so the I/O assignment created by EFI
is rejected.
EFI creates the mappings primarily for itself, and up until DSM #5
started to be enforced, all PCI resource allocations that existed at
boot were ignored by Linux and recreated from scratch.
Also, the commit in question looks dubious - it seems unlikely that
Linux would fail to create a resource tree. What does
happen is that BARs get moved around, which may cause trouble in some
cases: for instance, Linux had to add special code to the EFI framebuffer
driver to copy with framebuffer BARs being relocated.
DSM #5 has a long history of debate and misinterpretation.

Commit [1] switched PCI hotplug from native to ACPI one by default.
That however breaks hotplug on following CLI that used to work:
-nodefaults -machine q35 \
-device pcie-root-port,id=pcie-root-port-0,multifunction=on,bus=pcie.0,addr=0x1,chassis=1 \
-device pcie-root-port,id=pcie-root-port-1,port=0x1,addr=0x1.0x1,bus=pcie.0,chassis=2
where PCI device is hotplugged to pcie-root-port-1 with error on guest side:
ACPI BIOS Error (bug): Could not resolve symbol [^S0B.PCNT], AE_NOT_FOUND (20201113/psargs-330)
ACPI Error: Aborting method \_SB.PCI0.PCNT due to previous error (AE_NOT_FOUND) (20201113/psparse-531)
ACPI Error: Aborting method \_GPE._E01 due to previous error (AE_NOT_FOUND) (20201113/psparse-531)
ACPI Error: AE_NOT_FOUND, while evaluating GPE method [_E01] (20201113/evgpe-515)
cause is that QEMU's ACPI hotplug never supported functions other then 0
and due to bug it was generating notification entries for not described
functions.
Technically there is no reason not to describe cold-plugged bridges
(root ports) on functions other then 0, as they similarly to bridge
on function 0 are unpluggable.
So since we need to describe multifunction devices iterate over
fuctions as well. But describe only cold-plugged bridges[root ports]
on functions other than 0 as well.

Q35 has now ACPI hotplug enabled by default for PCI(e) devices.
As opposed to native PCIe hotplug, guests like Fedora 34
will not assign IO range to pcie-root-ports not supporting
native hotplug, resulting into a regression.
Reproduce by:
qemu-bin -M q35 -device pcie-root-port,id=p1 -monitor stdio
device_add e1000,bus=p1
In the Guest OS the respective pcie-root-port will have the IO range
disabled.
Fix it by setting the "reserve-io" hint capability of the

If the user provides both a BIOS/firmware image and also a guest
kernel filename, arm_setup_firmware_boot() will pass the
kernel image to the firmware via the fw_cfg device. However we
weren't checking whether there really was a fw_cfg device present,
and if there wasn't we would crash.
This crash can be provoked with a command line such as
qemu-system-aarch64 -M raspi3 -kernel /dev/null -bios /dev/null -display none
It is currently only possible on the raspi3 machine, because unless
the machine sets info->firmware_loaded we won't call
arm_setup_firmware_boot(), and the only machines which set that are:
* virt (has a fw-cfg device)
* sbsa-ref (checks itself for kernel_filename && firmware_loaded)
* raspi3 (crashes)
But this is an unfortunate beartrap to leave for future machine
model implementors, so we should handle this situation in boot.c.
Check in arm_setup_firmware_boot() whether the fw-cfg device exists
before trying to load files into it, and if it doesn't exist then
exit with a hopefully helpful error message.
Because we now handle this check in a machine-agnostic way, we
can remove the check from sbsa-ref.

While Linux e1000e driver always writes VET register to 0x8100, it is
not always the case for everyone. Drivers relying on the reset value

Unlike e1000 in QEMU, e1000e uses a field 'vet' in "struct E1000Core"
to cache the value of VET register, but the cache only gets updated
when VET register is written. To always get a consistent VET value
no matter VET is written or remains its reset value, drop the 'vet'
field and use 'core->mac[VET]' directly.

Coverity reported issues which are caused by mixing of signed return codes
from DTC and unsigned return codes of the client interface.
This introduces PROM_ERROR and makes distinction between the error types.
This fixes NEGATIVE_RETURNS, OVERRUN issues reported by Coverity.
This adds a comment about the return parameters number in the VOF hcall.
The reason for such counting is to keep the numbers look the same in
vof_client_handle() and the Linux (an OF client).
vmc->client_architecture_support() returns target_ulong and we want to
propagate this to the client (for example H_MULTI_THREADS_ACTIVE).
The VOF path to do_client_architecture_support() needs chopping off
the top 32bit but SLOF's H_CAS does not; and either way the return values
are either 0 or 32bit negative error code. For now this chops
the top 32bits.
This makes "claim" fail if the allocated address is above 4GB as
the client interface is 32bit. This still allows claiming memory above
4GB as potentially initrd can be put there and the client can read
the address from the FDT's "available" property.

Add the differential clock input feature bit to the generated SPD
data. Most guests don't seem to care but pegasos2 firmware version 1.2
checks for this bit and stops with unsupported module type error if
it's not present. Since this feature is likely present on real memory
modules add it in the general code rather than patching the generated
SPD data in pegasos2 board only.

The macro used to calculate the maximum memory size of the MMIO region
had a mistake, causing all GPIO models to create a mapping of 0x9D8.
The intent was to have it be 0x9D8 - 0x800.
This extra size doesn't matter on ast2400 and ast2500, which have a 4KB
region set aside for the GPIO controller.
On the ast2600 the 3.3V and 1.8V GPIO controllers are 2KB apart, so the
regions would overlap. Worse was the 1.8V controller would map over the
top of the following peripheral, which happens to be the RTC.
The mmio region used by each device is a maximum of 2KB, so avoid the
calculations and hard code this as the maximum.

The ISCR.ISRPENDING bit is set when an external interrupt is pending.
This is true whether that external interrupt is enabled or not.
This means that we can't use 's->vectpending == 0' as a shortcut to
"ISRPENDING is zero", because s->vectpending indicates only the
highest priority pending enabled interrupt.
Remove the incorrect optimization so that if there is no pending
enabled interrupt we fall through to scanning through the whole

Prior to this patch the nvme-ns devices are always children of the
NvmeBus owned by the NvmeCtrl. This causes the namespaces to be
unrealized when the parent device is removed. However, when subsystems
are involved, this is not what we want since the namespaces may be
attached to other controllers as well.
This patch adds an additional NvmeBus on the subsystem device. When
nvme-ns devices are realized, if the parent controller device is linked
to a subsystem, the parent bus is set to the subsystem one instead. This
makes sure that namespaces are kept alive and not unrealized.

$ qemu-system-ppc -M pegasos2
qemu-system-ppc: standard VGA not available
But when trying to explicitly use the ATI device we get an error:
$ qemu-system-ppc -M pegasos2 -vga none -bios pegasos2.rom -device ati-vga,romfile=
qemu-system-ppc: -device ati-vga,romfile=: 'ati-vga' is not a valid device model name
Add it as an implicit Kconfig dependency.

When we build IORT table with SMMUv3 and bypass iommu feature enabled,
we can no longer setup one map from RC to SMMUv3 covering the whole RIDs.
We need to walk the PCI bus and check whether the root bus will bypass
iommu, setup RC -> SMMUv3 -> ITS map for RC which will not bypass iommu.
When a SMMUv3 node exist, we setup the idmap from SMMUv3 to ITS
covering the whole RIDs, and only modify the map from RC to SMMUv3.
We build RC -> SMMUv3 -> ITS map for root bus with bypass_iommu

Q35 has three different types of PCI devices hot-plug: PCIe Native,
SHPC Native and ACPI hot-plug. This patch changes the default choice
for cold-plugged bridges from PCIe Native to ACPI Hot-plug with
ability to use SHPC and PCIe Native for hot-plugged bridges.
This is a list of the PCIe Native hot-plug issues that led to this
change:
* no racy behavior during boot (see 110c477c2e)
* no delay during deleting - after the actual power off software
must wait at least 1 second before indicating about it. This case
is quite important for users, it even has its own bug:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1594168
* no timer-based behavior - in addition to the previous example,
the attention button has a 5-second waiting period, during which
the operation can be canceled with a second press. While this
looks fine for manual button control, automation will result in
the need to queue or drop events, and the software receiving
events in all sort of unspecified combinations of attention/power
indicator states, which is racy and uppredictable.
* fixes:
* https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1752465
* https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1690256
To return to PCIe Native hot-plug:
-global ICH9-LPC.acpi-pci-hotplug-with-bridge-support=off
Known issue: older linux guests need the following flag
to allow hotplugged pci express devices to use io:
-device pcie-root-port,io-reserve=4096.
io is unusual for pci express so this seems minor.
We'll fix this by a follow up patch.

Currently the firmware dynamic info (fw_dyn) is put right after
the reset vector, which is not 8-byte aligned on RV64. OpenSBI
fw_dynamic uses ld to read contents from 'struct fw_dynamic_info',
which expects fw_dyn to be on the 8-byte boundary, otherwise the
misaligned load exception may happen. Fortunately this does not
cause any issue on QEMU, as QEMU does support misaligned load.
RV32 does not have any issue as it is 4-byte aligned already.

Although unlikely, we could have a page size that does not fit into

Let's use 1ULL instead and make sure we're not shifting by more than 63

When parsing cpus= attribute of -numa object couple of checks
is performed, such as correct initiator setting (see the if()
statement at the end of for() loop in
machine_set_cpu_numa_node()).
However, with the current code cpus= attribute is parsed before
initiator= attribute and thus the check may fail even though it
is not obvious why. But since parsing the initiator= attribute
does not depend on the cpus= attribute we can swap the order of
the two.
It's fairly easy to reproduce with the following command line
(snippet of an actual cmd line):

When setting up NUMA with HMAT enabled there's a check performed
in machine_set_cpu_numa_node() that reports an error when a NUMA
node has a CPU but the node's initiator is not itself. The error
message reported contains only the expected value and not the

Currently all built-in CPUs report cache information via CPUID leaves 2
and 4, but these have never been defined for AMD. In the case of
SEV-SNP this can cause issues with CPUID enforcement. Address this by
allowing CPU types to suppress these via a new "x-vendor-cpuid-only"
CPU property, which is true by default, but switched off for older
machine types to maintain compatibility.

Commit 3fe9a838ec "dp8393x: Always use 32-bit accesses" set .impl.min_access_size
and .impl.max_access_size to 4 to try and fix the Linux jazzsonic driver which uses
32-bit accesses.
The problem with forcing the register access to 32-bit in this way is that since the
dp8393x uses 16-bit registers, a manual endian swap is required for devices on big
endian machines with 32-bit accesses.
For both access sizes and machine endians the QEMU memory API can do the right thing
automatically: all that is needed is to set .impl.min_access_size to 2 to declare that
the dp8393x implements 16-bit registers.
Normally .impl.max_access_size should also be set to 2, however that doesn't quite
work in this case since the register stride is specified using a (dynamic) it_shift
property which is applied during the MMIO access itself. The effect of this is that
for a 32-bit access the memory API performs 2 x 16-bit accesses, but the use of
it_shift within the MMIO access itself causes the register value to be repeated in both
the top 16-bits and bottom 16-bits. The Linux jazzsonic driver expects the stride to be
zero-extended up to access size and therefore fails to correctly detect the dp8393x
device due to the extra data in the top 16-bits.
The solution here is to remove .impl.max_access_size so that the memory API will
correctly zero-extend the 16-bit registers to the access size up to and including
it_shift. Since it_shift is never greater than 2 than this will always do the right
thing for both 16-bit and 32-bit accesses regardless of the machine endian, allowing
the manual endian swap code to be removed.

Instead of accessing N registers via a single address_space API
call using a temporary buffer (stored in the device state) and
updating each register, move the address_space call in the
register put/get. The load/store and word size checks are moved
to put/get too. This simplifies a bit, making the code easier
to read.

Per the DP83932C datasheet from July 1995:
4.0 SONIC Registers
4.1 THE CAM UNIT
The Content Addressable Memory (CAM) consists of sixteen
48-bit entries for complete address filtering of network
packets. Each entry corresponds to a 48-bit destination
address that is user programmable and can contain any
combination of Multicast or Physical addresses. Each entry
is partitioned into three 16-bit CAM cells accessible
through CAM Address Ports (CAP 2, CAP 1 and CAP 0) with
CAP0 corresponding to the least significant 16 bits of
the Destination Address and CAP2 corresponding to the
most significant bits.
Store the CAM registers as 16-bit as it simplifies the code.
Having now the CAM registers as arrays of 3 uint16_t, we can avoid
using the VMSTATE_BUFFER_UNSAFE macro by using VMSTATE_UINT16_2DARRAY
which is more appropriate. This breaks the migration stream however.

Currently when a LOAD CAM command is executed the entries are loaded into the
CAM from memory in order which is incorrect. According to the datasheet the
first entry in the CAM descriptor is the entry index which means that each
descriptor may update any single entry in the CAM rather than the Nth entry.
Decode the CAM entry index and use it store the descriptor in the appropriate
slot in the CAM. This fixes the issue where the MacOS toolbox loads a single
CAM descriptor into the final slot in order to perform a loopback test which
must succeed before the Ethernet port is enabled.

The last sticking point is translate.c which cannot be compiled

The PL061 comes out of reset with all its lines configured as input,

these lines on reset; they will only be set whenever the guest first
touches a register that triggers a call to pl061_update().

For the virt board we have two PL061 devices -- one for NonSecure which
is inputs only, and one for Secure which is outputs only. For the former,
we don't care whether its outputs are pulled low or high when the line is
configured as an input, because we don't connect them. For the latter,
we do care, because we wire the lines up to the gpio-pwr device, which
assumes that level 1 means "do the action" and 1 means "do nothing".
For consistency in case we add more outputs in future, configure both

The PL061 GPIO does not itself include pullup or pulldown resistors
to set the value of a GPIO line treated as an output when it is
configured as an input (ie when the PL061 itself is not driving it).
In real hardware it is up to the board to add suitable pullups or
pulldowns. Currently our implementation hardwires this to "outputs
pulled high", which is correct for some boards (eg the realview ones:
see figure 3-29 in the "RealView Platform Baseboard for ARM926EJ-S
User Guide" DUI0224I), but wrong for others.
In particular, the wiring in the 'virt' board and the gpio-pwr device
assumes that wires should be pulled low, because otherwise the
pull-to-high will trigger a shutdown or reset action. (The only
reason this doesn't happen immediately on startup is due to another
bug in the PL061, where we don't assert the GPIOs to the correct
value on reset, but will do so as soon as the guest touches a
register and pl061_update() gets called.)
Add properties to the pl061 so the board can configure whether it
wants GPIO lines to have pullup, pulldown, or neither.

which lets the guest configure whether the GPIO lines are pull-up,
pull-down, or truly floating. Instead of assuming all lines are pulled
high, honour the PUR and PDR registers.
For the plain PL061, continue to assume that lines have an external
pull-up resistor, as we did before.
The stellaris board actually relies on this behaviour -- the CD line
of the ssd0323 display device is connected to GPIO output C7, and it
is only because of a different bug which we're about to fix that we
weren't incorrectly driving this line high on reset and putting the
ssd0323 into data mode.

(like LPIs). The issue is that these functions check against the number
of implemented IRQs (QEMU's default is num_irq=288) which can be lower
than the maximum virtual IRQ number (1020 - 1). The consequence is that
if a hypervisor creates an LR for an IRQ between 288 and 1020, then the
guest is unable to deactivate the resulting IRQ. Note that other
functions that deal with large IRQ numbers, like icv_iar_read, check
against 1020 and not against num_irq.
Fix the checks by using GICV3_MAXIRQ (1020) instead of the number of

The pegasos2 board comes with an Open Firmware compliant ROM based on
SmartFirmware but it has some changes that are not open source
therefore the ROM binary cannot be included in QEMU. Guests running on
the board however depend on services provided by the firmware. The
Virtual Open Firmware recently added to QEMU implements a minimal set
of these services to allow some guests to boot without the original
firmware. This patch adds VOF as the default firmware for pegasos2

hardware security features for speculative cache access issues.
These behaviours are now being specified as negative in order to simplify
patched kernel compatibility with older firmware (a new problem found in
existing systems would automatically be vulnerable).
[dwg: Technically this changes behaviour for existing machine types.
After discussion with Nick, we've determined this is safe, because
the worst that will happen if a guest gets the wrong information due
to a migration is that it will perform some unnecessary workarounds,
but will remain correct and secure (well, as secure as it was going
to be anyway). In addition the change only affects cap-cfpc=safe

The PAPR platform describes an OS environment that's presented by
a combination of a hypervisor and firmware. The features it specifies
require collaboration between the firmware and the hypervisor.
Since the beginning, the runtime component of the firmware (RTAS) has
been implemented as a 20 byte shim which simply forwards it to
a hypercall implemented in qemu. The boot time firmware component is
SLOF - but a build that's specific to qemu, and has always needed to be
updated in sync with it. Even though we've managed to limit the amount
of runtime communication we need between qemu and SLOF, there's some,
and it has become increasingly awkward to handle as we've implemented
new features.
This implements a boot time OF client interface (CI) which is
enabled by a new "x-vof" pseries machine option (stands for "Virtual Open
Firmware). When enabled, QEMU implements the custom H_OF_CLIENT hcall
which implements Open Firmware Client Interface (OF CI). This allows
using a smaller stateless firmware which does not have to manage
the device tree.
The new "vof.bin" firmware image is included with source code under
pc-bios/. It also includes RTAS blob.
This implements a handful of CI methods just to get -kernel/-initrd
working. In particular, this implements the device tree fetching and
simple memory allocator - "claim" (an OF CI memory allocator) and updates
"/memory@0/available" to report the client about available memory.
This implements changing some device tree properties which we know how
to deal with, the rest is ignored. To allow changes, this skips
fdt_pack() when x-vof=on as not packing the blob leaves some room for
appending.
In absence of SLOF, this assigns phandles to device tree nodes to make
device tree traversing work.
When x-vof=on, this adds "/chosen" every time QEMU (re)builds a tree.
This adds basic instances support which are managed by a hash map
ihandle -> [phandle].
Before the guest started, the used memory is:
0..e60 - the initial firmware
8000..10000 - stack
400000.. - kernel
3ea0000.. - initramdisk
This OF CI does not implement "interpret".
Unlike SLOF, this does not format uninitialized nvram. Instead, this
includes a disk image with pre-formatted nvram.
With this basic support, this can only boot into kernel directly.
However this is just enough for the petitboot kernel and initradmdisk to
boot from any possible source. Note this requires reasonably recent guest
kernel with:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=df5be5be8735
The immediate benefit is much faster booting time which especially
crucial with fully emulated early CPU bring up environments. Also this
may come handy when/if GRUB-in-the-userspace sees light of the day.
This separates VOF and sPAPR in a hope that VOF bits may be reused by
other POWERPC boards which do not support pSeries.
This assumes potential support for booting from QEMU backends
such as blockdev or netdev without devices/drivers used.

enough for the RTAS blob as it is just 20 bytes (under QEMU).
Since FWNMI reset delivery was added, RTAS_SIZE macro is not used anymore.
This replaces RTAS_SIZE with RTAS_MIN_SIZE and uses it in
the /rtas/rtas-size calculation to account for the RTAS blob.

We support coordinated discarding of RAM using the RamDiscardManager for
the VFIO_TYPE1 iommus. Let's unlock support for coordinated discards,
keeping uncoordinated discards (e.g., via virtio-balloon) disabled if
possible.
This unlocks virtio-mem + vfio on x86-64. Note that vfio used via "nvme://"
by the block layer has to be implemented/unlocked separately. For now,
virtio-mem only supports x86-64; we don't restrict RamDiscardManager to
x86-64, though: arm64 and s390x are supposed to work as well, and we'll
test once unlocking virtio-mem support. The spapr IOMMUs will need special
care, to be tackled later, e.g.., once supporting virtio-mem.
Note: The block size of a virtio-mem device has to be set to sane sizes,
depending on the maximum hotplug size - to not run out of vfio mappings.
The default virtio-mem block size is usually in the range of a couple of
MBs. The maximum number of mapping is 64k, shared with other users.
Assume you want to hotplug 256GB using virtio-mem - the block size would
have to be set to at least 8 MiB (resulting in 32768 separate mappings).

vIOMMU support works already with RamDiscardManager as long as guests only
map populated memory. Both, populated and discarded memory is mapped
into &address_space_memory, where vfio_get_xlat_addr() will find that
memory, to create the vfio mapping.
Sane guests will never map discarded memory (e.g., unplugged memory
blocks in virtio-mem) into an IOMMU - or keep it mapped into an IOMMU while
memory is getting discarded. However, there are two cases where a malicious
guests could trigger pinning of more memory than intended.
One case is easy to handle: the guest trying to map discarded memory
into an IOMMU.
The other case is harder to handle: the guest keeping memory mapped in
the IOMMU while it is getting discarded. We would have to walk over all
mappings when discarding memory and identify if any mapping would be a
violation. Let's keep it simple for now and print a warning, indicating
that setting RLIMIT_MEMLOCK can mitigate such attacks.
We have to take care of incoming migration: at the point the
IOMMUs get restored and start creating mappings in vfio, RamDiscardManager
implementations might not be back up and running yet: let's add runstate
priorities to enforce the order when restoring.

Although RamDiscardManager can handle running into the maximum number of
DMA mappings by propagating errors when creating a DMA mapping, we want
to sanity check and warn the user early that there is a theoretical setup
issue and that virtio-mem might not be able to provide as much memory
towards a VM as desired.
As suggested by Alex, let's use the number of KVM memory slots to guess
how many other mappings we might see over time.

Implement support for RamDiscardManager, to prepare for virtio-mem
support. Instead of mapping the whole memory section, we only map
"populated" parts and update the mapping when notified about
discarding/population of memory via the RamDiscardListener. Similarly, when
syncing the dirty bitmaps, sync only the actually mapped (populated) parts
by replaying via the notifier.
Using virtio-mem with vfio is still blocked via
ram_block_discard_disable()/ram_block_discard_require() after this patch.

Let's properly notify when (un)plugging blocks, after discarding memory
and before allowing the guest to consume memory. Handle errors from
notifiers gracefully (e.g., no remaining VFIO mappings) when plugging,
rolling back the change and telling the guest that the VM is busy.
One special case to take care of is replaying all notifications after
restoring the vmstate. The device starts out with all memory discarded,
so after loading the vmstate, we have to notify about all plugged
blocks.
