It is currently unclear whether anybody is still using the 'moxie' CPU,
and there are no images for testing available this CPU, so the code has
likely bit-rotten in the course of time. When I asked the maintainer
for information, I did not get a reply within four weeks yet (see
https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/qemu-devel/2020-08/msg07201.html).
The last Signed-off-by line from Anthony in our repo is from 2013,
so it seems like this code is rather unmaintained. Time to put it onto
the deprecation list to see whether somebody is still interested in this
code or whether we could remove it in a couple of releases.

If you like running QEMU as a normal user (very common for TCG runs)
but you have to run virtiofsd as a root user you run into connection
problems. Adding support for an optional --socket-group allows the
users to keep using the command line.

Often, QMP command handlers are not only called to handle QMP commands,
but also from a corresponding HMP command handler. In order to give them
a consistent environment, optionally run HMP command handlers in a
coroutine, too.
The implementation is a lot simpler than in QMP because for HMP, we
still block the VM while the coroutine is running.

This patch adds a new 'coroutine' flag to QMP command definitions that
tells the QMP dispatcher that the command handler is safe to be run in a
coroutine.
The documentation of the new flag pretends that this flag is already
used as intended, which it isn't yet after this patch. We'll implement
this in another patch in this series.

We have a very frequent pattern of creating a coroutine from a function
with several arguments:
- create a structure to pack parameters
- create _entry function to call original function taking parameters
from struct
- do different magic to handle completion: set ret to NOT_DONE or
EINPROGRESS or use separate bool field
- fill the struct and create coroutine from _entry function with this
struct as a parameter
- do coroutine enter and BDRV_POLL_WHILE loop
Let's reduce code duplication by generating coroutine wrappers.
This patch adds scripts/block-coroutine-wrapper.py together with some
friends, which will generate functions with declared prototypes marked
by the 'generated_co_wrapper' specifier.
The usage of new code generation is as follows:
1. define the coroutine function somewhere
int coroutine_fn bdrv_co_NAME(...) {...}
2. declare in some header file
int generated_co_wrapper bdrv_NAME(...);
with same list of parameters (generated_co_wrapper is
defined in "include/block/block.h").
3. Make sure the block_gen_c declaration in block/meson.build
mentions the file with your marker function.

All our supported build platforms have Python 3.6 or newer nowadays, and
there are some useful features in Python 3.6 which are not available in
3.5 yet (e.g. the type hint annotations which will allow us to statically
type the QAPI parser), so let's bump the minimum Python version to 3.6 now.

Users of existing VMs, wishing to preserve the same RAM distribution,
should configure it explicitly using ``-numa node,memdev`` options.
Current RAM distribution can be retrieved using HMP command
`info numa` and if separate memory devices (pc|nv-dimm) are present
use `info memory-device` and subtract device memory from output of
`info numa`.

Update the documentation of QAPI document comment syntax to match
the new rST backend requirements. The principal changes are:
* whitespace is now significant, and multiline definitions
must have their second and subsequent lines indented to
match the first line
* general rST format markup is permitted, not just the small
set of markup the old texinfo generator handled. For most
things (notably bulleted and itemized lists) the old format
was the same as rST is.
* Specific things that might trip people up:
- instead of *bold* and _italic_ rST has **bold** and *italic*
- lists need a preceding and following blank line
- a lone literal '*' will need to be backslash-escaped to
avoid a rST syntax error
* the old leading '|' for example (literal text) blocks is
replaced by the standard rST '::' literal block.
* we support arbitrary levels of sub- and sub-sub-heading, not
just a main and sub-heading like the old texinfo generator
* lists can now be nested

The automatic dependency handling for Sphinx manuals only makes the output
depend on the input documentation files. This means that if you edit
the Python source of an extension then the documentation won't be
rebuilt.
Create a list of all the source files for the extensions and add
it to the dependencies for the manuals. This is similar to how we
handle the qapi_gen_depends list.
Because we don't try to identify which manuals are using which
Sphinx extensions, a change to the source of one extension will
always rebuild the entire manual set, not merely the manuals
which have changed. This is acceptable because we don't change
the extensions all that often.

Convert qemu-qmp-ref to rST format. This includes dropping
the plain-text, pdf and info format outputs for this document;
as with all our other Sphinx-based documentation, we provide
HTML and manpage only.
The qemu-qmp-ref.rst is somewhat more stripped down than
the .texi was, because we do not (currently) attempt to
generate indexes for the commands, events and data types
being documented.
Again, we drop the direct link from index.html.in now that
the QMP ref is part of the interop manual.
This commit removes the code from the root meson.build file that
handled the various Texinfo-based outputs, because we no longer
generate any documentation except for the Sphinx HTML manuals and the
manpages, and the code can't handle having an empty list of files
to process.. We'll do further cleanup of the remainders of
Texinfo support in subsequent commits.

Some of our documentation is auto-generated from documentation
comments in the JSON schema.
For Sphinx, rather than creating a file to include, the most natural
way to handle this is to have a small custom Sphinx extension which
processes the JSON file and inserts documentation into the rST
file being processed.
This is the same approach that kerneldoc and hxtool use.

Make the handling of indentation in doc comments more sophisticated,
so that when we see a section like:

indented line 3
we save it for the doc-comment processing code as:

and when we see a section with the heading on its own line:

indented text
we also accept that and save it in the same form.
If we detect that the comment document text is not indented as much
as we expect it to be, we throw a parse error. (We don't complain
about over-indented sections, because for rST this can be legitimate
markup.)
The golden reference for the doc comment text is updated to remove
the two 'wrong' indents; these now form a test case that we correctly
stripped leading whitespace from an indented multi-line argument
definition.
We update the documentation in docs/devel/qapi-code-gen.txt to
describe the new indentation rules.

clang's C11 atomic_fetch_*() functions only take a C11 atomic type
pointer argument. QEMU uses direct types (int, etc) and this causes a
compiler error when a QEMU code calls these functions in a source file
that also included <stdatomic.h> via a system header file:

Avoid using atomic_*() names in QEMU's atomic.h since that namespace is
used by <stdatomic.h>. Prefix QEMU's APIs with 'q' so that atomic.h
and <stdatomic.h> can co-exist. I checked /usr/include on my machine and
searched GitHub for existing "qatomic_" users but there seem to be none.
This patch was generated using:

The sentence explaining the deprecation schedule is ambiguous. Make it
clear that a feature deprecated in the Nth release is guaranteed to
remain available in the N+1th release. Removal can occur in the N+2nd
release or later.
As an example of this in action, see commit
25956af3fe ("block: Finish deprecation of
'qemu-img convert -n -o'"). The feature was deprecated in QEMU 4.2.0. It
was present in the 5.0.0 release and removed in the 5.1.0 release.

Hyper-V TLFS prior to version 6.0 had a mistake in it: special value
'0xffffffff' for CPUID 0x40000004.EBX was called 'never to retry', this
looked weird (like why it's not '0' which supposedly have the same effect?)
but nobody raised the question. In TLFS version 6.0 the mistake was
corrected to 'never notify' which sounds logical. Fix QEMU accordingly.

Some machines don't have much differences a part from the flash model
being used. Introduce new machine properties to change them from the
command line.

"inline markup is recognized and there is no protection from parsing.
Backslash-escapes may be necessary to prevent unintended parsing".
The qemu(1) manual page (formatted with Sphinx 2.2.2) has several overlong
lines on my system. A stand-alone backslash at EOL serves as line
continuation in a "parsed-literal" block. Therefore, escape the
backslashes that we want to appear as such in the formatted documentation.

Deprecate our lm32 target support. Michael Walle (former lm32 maintainer)
suggested that we do this in 2019:

because the only public user of the architecture is the many-years-dead
milkymist project. (The Linux port to lm32 was never merged upstream.)
In commit 4b4d96c776 (March 2020) we marked it as 'orphan' in
the MAINTAINERS file, but didn't officially deprecate it. Mark it
deprecated now, with the intention of removing it from QEMU in
mid-2021 before the 6.1 release.

Implement a model of the MPS2 with the AN500 firmware. This is
similar to the AN385, with the following differences:
* Cortex-M7 CPU
* PSRAM is at 0x6000_0000
* Ethernet is at 0xa000_0000
* No zbt_boot_ctrl remapping of the low 16K

We deprecated the support for KVM on 32-bit Arm hosts in time
for release 5.0, which means that our deprecation policy allows
us to drop it in release 5.2. Remove the code.
To repeat the rationale from the deprecation note: the Linux
kernel dropped support for 32-bit Arm KVM hosts in 5.7.
Running 32-bit guests on a 64-bit Arm host remains supported.

We have an exploding complexity problem in the testing so lets just
move the more involved plugins into contrib. tests/plugins still exist
for the basic plugins that exercise the API. We restore the old
pre-meson style Makefile for contrib as it also doubles as a guide for
out-of-tree plugin builds.
While we are at it add some examples to the documentation and a
specific plugins build target.

Commit 480324ec8d "docs/qdev-device-use: Clean up the sentences
related to -usbdevice" deleted the information on syntax that no
longer works. Unfortunately, the resulting text suggests you can
configure USB block devices with -drive, and USB network devices with
-net, which is misleading.
Instead of rephrasing the now misleading text, I'm putting the
information back, and just make clear it's about old versions of QEMU.

Currently QAPI generates a type and function for free'ing it:

Since bumping the min glib to 2.48, QEMU has incrementally adopted the
use of g_auto/g_autoptr. This allows the compiler to run a function to
free a variable when it goes out of scope, the benefit being the
compiler can guarantee it is freed in all possible code ptahs.
This benefit is applicable to QAPI types too, and given the seriously
long method names for some qapi_free_XXXX() functions, is much less
typing. This change thus makes the code generator emit:

Note, if the local pointer needs to live beyond the scope holding the
variable, then g_steal_pointer can be used. This is useful to return the
pointer to the caller in the success codepath, while letting it be freed
in all error codepaths.

We do not need to ask cmake for the dependencies, so just use the
pkg-config mechanism. Keep "auto" for SDL so that it tries using
sdl-config too.
The documentation is adjusted to use SDL2_image as the example,
rather than SDL which does not use the "pkg-config" method.

When cross-compiling, by default qemu_docdir is 'c:\Program Files\QEMU\'
which is not recognized as being an absolute path, and meson will end up
adding the prefix again.
Add an option to pass docdir location to meson, pre-prefixed like we do
with other directories, build qemu_docdir with the common suffix and use
that instead of config_host['qemu_docdir'].

This patch adds an autoscan to let u2f-passthru choose the first U2F
device it finds.
The autoscan is performed using libudev with an enumeration of all the
hidraw devices present on the host.
The first device which happens to be a U2F device is taken to do the
passtru.

Right now we enable remote posix locks by default. That means when guest
does a posix lock it sends request to server (virtiofsd). But currently
we only support non-blocking posix lock and return -EOPNOTSUPP for
blocking version.
This means that existing applications which are doing blocking posix
locks get -EOPNOTSUPP and fail. To avoid this, people have been
running virtiosd with option "-o no_posix_lock". For new users it
is still a surprise and trial and error takes them to this option.
Given posix lock implementation is not complete in virtiofsd, disable
it by default. This means that posix locks will work with-in applications
in a guest but not across guests. Anyway we don't support sharing
filesystem among different guests yet in virtiofs so this should
not lead to any kind of surprise or regression and will make life
little easier for virtiofs users.

For now, sphinx is run on every invocation of make. The previous mechanism
using $(wildcard) is not reproducible in Meson and was also brittle; for
example some .rst.inc files were left out. The next patch will introduce
a Sphinx extension to emit a depfile.

The binaries move to the root directory, e.g. qemu-system-i386 or
qemu-arm. This requires changes to qtests, CI, etc.

This shows how to do some "computations" in meson.build using its array
and dictionary data structures, and also a basic usage of the sourceset
module for conditional compilation.
Notice the new "if have_system" part of util/meson.build, which fixes
a bug in the old build system was buggy: util/dbus.c was built even for
non-softmmu builds, but the dependency on -lgio was lost when the linking
was done through libqemuutil.a. Because all of its users required gio
otherwise, the bug was hidden. Meson instead propagates libqemuutil's
dependencies down to its users, and shows the problem.

When starting an L2 KVM guest with `ic-mode=dual,kernel-irqchip=on`,
QEMU fails with:
KVM is too old to support ic-mode=dual,kernel-irqchip=on
This error message was introduced to detect older KVM versions that
didn't allow destruction and re-creation of the XICS KVM device that
we do at reboot. But it is actually the same issue that we get with
nested guests : when running under pseries, KVM currently provides
a genuine XICS device (not the XICS-on-XIVE device that we get
under powernv) which doesn't support destruction/re-creation.
This will eventually be fixed in KVM but in the meantime, update
the error message and documentation to mention the nested case.
While here, mention that in "No XIVE support in KVM" section that
this can also happen with "guest OSes supporting XIVE" since
we check this at init time before starting the guest.
