Tom Tromey 632e107b32 Enable -Wsuggest-override
I noticed the existence of -Wsuggest-override and so this patch
enables it for gdb. It found a few spots that could use "override".
Also I went ahead and removed all uses of the "OVERRIDE" macro.

Using override is beneficial because it makes it harder to change a
base class and then forget to change a derived class.

Tested by the buildbot.

Yao Qi 849d0ba802 class readable_regcache and pass readable_regcache to gdbarch pseudo_register_read and pseudo_register_read_value
pseudo registers are either from raw registers or memory, so
gdbarch methods pseudo_register_read and pseudo_register_read_value
should have regcache object which only have read methods. In other
words, we should disallow writing to regcache in these two gdbarch
methods. In order to apply this restriction, this patch adds a new
class readable_regcache, derived from reg_buffer, and it only has
raw_read and cooked_read methods. regcache is derived from
readable_regcache. This patch also passes readable_regcache instead of
regcache to gdbarch methods pseudo_register_read and
pseudo_register_read_value.

This patch moves raw_read* and cooked_read* methods to readable_regcache,
which is straightforward. One thing not straightforward is that I split
regcache::xfer_part to readable_regcache::read_part and regcache::write_part,
because readable_regcache can only have methods to read.

readable_regcache is an abstract base class, and it has a pure virtual
function raw_update, because I don't want readable_regcache know where
these raw registers are from. They can be from either the target
(readwrite regcache) or the regcache itself (readonly regcache).

Yao Qi 03f50fc878 Replace regcache_raw_read with regcache->raw_read
The patch later in this series will move regcache's raw_read and
cooked_read methods to a new class regcache_read, and regcache is
dervied from it. Also pass regcache_read instead of regcache to gdbarch
methods pseudo_register_read and pseudo_register_read_value. In order
to prepare for this change, this patch changes regcache_raw_read to
regcache->raw_read. On the other hand, since we are in C++, I prefer
using class method (regcache->raw_read).

Yao Qi a738ea1d41 Clear non-significant bits of address on memory access
ARMv8 supports tagged address, that is, the top one byte in address
is ignored. It is always enabled on aarch64-linux. See
https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/arm64/tagged-pointers.txt

The tag in the tagged address is modeled as non-significant bits in
address, so this patch adds a new gdbarch method significant_addr_bit and
clear the non-significant bits (the top byte in ARMv8) of the virtual
address at the point before passing address to target cache layer. IOW,
the address used in the target cache layer is already cleared.

Before this patch,
(gdb) x/x 0x0000000000411030
0x411030 <global>:	0x00000000
(gdb) x/x 0xf000000000411030
0xf000000000411030:	Cannot access memory at address 0xf000000000411030

After this patch,

(gdb) x/x 0x0000000000411030
0x411030 <global>:	0x00000000
(gdb) x/x 0xf000000000411030
0xf000000000411030:	0x00000000

Note that I used address_significant in paddress, but it causes a
regression gdb.base/long_long.exp, because gdb clears the non-significant
bits in address, but test still expects them.

p/a val.oct^M
$24 = 0x2ee53977053977^M
(gdb) FAIL: gdb.base/long_long.exp: p/a val.oct

so I defer the change there.

Yao Qi ac7936dfd0 s/get_regcache_arch (regcache)/regcache->arch ()/g
This patches removes get_regcache_arch, and use regache->arch () instead.
The motivation of this change is that I am going to move some basic stuff
into a base class of regcache. I don't need to update "client" code
regcache->arch (). On the other hand, this patch shortens the code a
little bit.

Simon Marchi cfba98720f Create a displaced_step_closure class hierarchy
displaced_step_closure is a type defined in multiple -tdep.c files.
Trying to xfree it from the common code (infrun.c) is a problem when we
try to poison xfree for non-POD types. Because there can be multiple of
these types in the same build, this patch makes a hierarchy of classes
with a virtual destructor. When the common code deletes the object
through a displaced_step_closure pointer, it will invoke the right
destructor.

The amd64 used a last-member array with a variable size. That doesn't
work with new, so I changed it for an std::vector. Other architectures
which used a simple byte buffer as a closure now use a shared
buf_displaced_step_closure, a closure type that only contains a
gdb::byte_vector.

Reg-tested on the buildbot.

Tom Tromey f7b7ed97a2 C++-ify prologue-value's pv_area
This patch is an initial C++-ification of pv_area, from
prologue-value. It turns pv_area into a class with a constructor and
destructor; renames the data members; and changes various functions to
be member functions. This allows the removal of
make_cleanup_free_pv_area.

Ulrich Weigand 1841ee5d03 Clean up includes of doublest.h and floatformat.h
As a first small step to getting rid of doublest.h, this patch removes the
include of "floatformat.h" in "doublest.h". This is actually not needed
for the file itself. A few source files now need to include "floatformat.h"
directly, since they got it indirectly via "doublest.h" and still need it.

In reviewing which files need it, I found a number of files that include
"floatformat.h" directly without actually needing it at all. Similarly,
a number of files include "doublest.h" without needing it. I've also
removed those unnecessary include statements.

Simon Marchi 1526853e34 Add selftests run filtering
With the growing number of selftests, I think it would be useful to be
able to run only a subset of the tests. This patch associates a name to
each registered selftest. It then allows doing something like:

  (gdb) maintenance selftest aarch64
  Running self-tests.
  Running selftest aarch64-analyze-prologue.
  Running selftest aarch64-process-record.
Ran 2 unit tests, 0 failed

or with gdbserver:

  ./gdbserver --selftest=aarch64

In both cases, only the tests that contain "aarch64" in their name are
ran. To help validate that the tests you want to run were actually ran,
it also prints a message with the test name before running each test.

Right now, all the arch-dependent tests are registered as a single test
of the selftests. To be able to filter those too, I made them
"first-class citizen" selftests. The selftest type is an interface,
with different implementations for "simple selftests" and "arch
selftests". The run_tests function simply iterates on that an invokes
operator() on each test.

I changed the tests data structure from a vector to a map, because

  - it allows iterating in a stable (alphabetical) order
  - it allows to easily verify if a test with a given name has been
    registered, to avoid duplicates

There's also a new command "maintenance info selftests" that lists the
registered selftests.

Yao Qi 6394c60699 Don't use print_insn_XXX in GDB
This is a follow-up to

[PATCH 0/6] Unify the disassembler selection in gdb and objdump
  https://sourceware.org/ml/binutils/2017-05/msg00192.html

that is, opcodes is able to select the right disassembler, so gdb
doesn't have to select them. Instead, gdb can just use
default_print_insn. As a result, these print_insn_XXX are not used
out of opcodes, so this patch also moves their declarations from
include/dis-asm.h to opcodes/disassemble.h. With this change,
GDB doesn't use any print_insn_XXX directly any more.

Pedro Alves 53375380e9 Teach GDB that wchar_t is a built-in type in C++ mode
GDB is currently not aware that wchar_t is a built-in type in C++
mode. This is usually not a problem because the debug info describes
the type, so when you have a program loaded, you don't notice this.
However, if you try expressions involving wchar_t before a program is
loaded, gdb errors out:

 (gdb) p (wchar_t)-1
No symbol table is loaded. Use the "file" command.
 (gdb) p L"hello"
 No type named wchar_t.
 (gdb) ptype L"hello"
 No type named wchar_t.

This commit teaches gdb about the type. After:

 (gdb) p (wchar_t)-1
 $1 = -1 L'\xffffffff'
 (gdb) p L"hello"
 $2 = L"hello"
 (gdb) ptype L"hello"
 type = wchar_t [6]

Unlike char16_t/char32_t, unfortunately, the underlying type of
wchar_t is implementation dependent, both size and signness. So this
requires adding a couple new gdbarch hooks.

I grepped the GCC code base for WCHAR_TYPE and WCHAR_TYPE_SIZE, and it
seems to me that the majority of the ABIs have a 4-byte signed
wchar_t, so that's what I made the default for GDB too. And then I
looked for which ports have a 16-bit and/or unsigned wchar_t, and made
GDB follow suit.

Both aarch64-tdep.c and arm-tdep.c defines a class instruction_reader, which
violates ODR, but linker doesn't an emit error. I fix this issue by wrapping

If it is a good idea to put locally used class into anonymous namespace, we
should document this rule into GDB coding convention, or even GCC coding
convention. Note that anonymous namespace has been used in GCC but GCC
coding convention doesn't mention the it.

Artemiy Volkov aa0061181a Convert lvalue reference type check to general reference type check
In almost all contexts (except for overload resolution rules and expression
semantics), lvalue and rvalue references are equivalent. That means that in all
but these cases we can replace a TYPE_CODE_REF check to a TYPE_IS_REFERENCE
check and, for switch statements, add a case label for a rvalue reference type
next to a case label for an lvalue reference type. This patch does exactly
that.

Yao Qi 432ec0814b [AArch64] Recognize STR instruction in prologue
This patch teaches GDB AArch64 backend to recognize STR instructions
in prologue, like 'str x19, [sp, #-48]!' or 'str w0, [sp, #44]'.
The unit test is added too.

Yao Qi 4d9a900613 Add unit test to aarch64 prologue analyzer
We don't have an effective way to test prologue analyzer which is
highly dependent on instruction patterns in prologue generated by
compiler. GDB prologue analyzer may not handle the new sequences
generated by new compiler, or may still handle some sequences that
generated by very old compilers which are no longer used. The
former is a functionality issue, while the latter is a maintenance
issue.

The input and output of prologue analyzer is quite clear, so it
fits for unit test. The input is series of instructions, and the
output are 1) where prologue end, 2) where registers are saved.
In aarch64, they are represented in 'struct aarch64_prologue_cache'.

This patch refactors aarch64_analyze_prologue so it can read
instructions from either real target or test harness. In unit
test aarch64_analyze_prologue_test, aarch64_analyze_prologue gets
instructions we prepared in the test, as the input of prologue
analyzer. Then, we checked various fields in
'struct aarch64_prologue_cache'.

Yao Qi 04180708ef Remove GDBARCH_BREAKPOINT_MANIPULATION and SET_GDBARCH_BREAKPOINT_MANIPULATION
Both of them are used in conversion. We can remove them since the
conversion is done.

There are many architectures only have one breakpoint instruction,
so their gdbarch methods breakpoint_kind_from_pc and
sw_breakpoint_from_kind look very similar. Instead of macro, we
use template "template <size_t, const gdb_byte *> struct bp_manipulation"
for these architectures. In order to use template, I also change
breakpoint instruction of type "static const gdb_byte[]" to
"constexpr gdb_byte[]", and rename them to ARCH_break_insn.

Yao Qi 03bcd7394e [AArch64] Match instruction "STP with base register" in prologue
Nowadays, we only match pre-indexed STP in prologue. Due to the change
in gcc, https://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-patches/2016-07/msg01933.html, it
may generate "STP with base register" in prologue, which GDB doesn't
handle. That is to say, previously GCC generates prologue like this,

 sub sp, sp, #490
 stp x29, x30, [sp, #-96]!
 mov x29, sp

with the gcc patch above, GCC generates prologue like like this,

 sub sp, sp, #4f0
 stp x29, x30, [sp]
 mov x29, sp

This patch is to teach GDB to recognize this instruction in prologue
analysis.

Yao Qi 2ac09a5bbb [AArch64] Use int64_t for address offset
In AArch64 displaced stepping and fast tracepoint, GDB/GDBserver needs
to check whether the offset can fit in the range. We are using int32_t
for offset, it is sufficient to get an offset from an instruction, but
it is not enough to get an offset from two addresses. For example,
we have a BL in shared lib which is at 0x0000002000040774, and the
scratch pad for displaced stepping is at 0x400698. The offset can't
fit in 28 bit imm. However, since we are using int32_t for offset, GDB
thinks the offset can fit it, and generate the B instruction with wrong
offset.

It fixes the following fail,

-FAIL: gdb.base/dso2dso.exp: next over call to sub2

Simon Marchi a2e3e93f44 Fix two misleading indentation warnings
Two small changes so everything builds with latest GCC and its
-Wmisleading-indentation.

In the aarch64-tdep.c case, the two misindented lines should actually be
part of the for loop. It looks like the indentation is all done using
spaces in that file though... I fixed it (changed for tabs + spaces) for
the lines I touched.

In the xcoffread.c case, we can simply remove the braces and fix the
indentation.

The problem is that an instance of stack_item_t is created to adjust
stack for alignment, the item.len is correct, but item.data is buf,
which is wrong, because item.len can be greater than the length of
buf. This patch sets item.data to NULL, and only update sp (no
inferior memory writes on stack for this item).

AArch64 AAPCS defined HFA (homogeneous floating-point aggregate)

Yao Qi 238f2452e6 [AArch64] Support gnu vector in inferior call
As defined in AArch64 AAPCS, short vectors are passed through V
registers, and its maximum alignment is 16-byte. This patch is
to reflect these rules in GDB. This patch fixes some fails in
gdb.base/gnu_vector.exp.

Yao Qi 0735fdddbc Fix out of boundary access in pass_in_v
Hi,
I build GDB with -fsanitize=address, and run testsuite. In
gdb.base/callfuncs.exp, I see the following error,

p t_float_values(0.0,0.0)
=================================================================
==8088==ERROR: AddressSanitizer: heap-buffer-overflow on address 0x6020000cb650 at pc 0x6e195c bp 0x7fff164f9770 sp 0x7fff164f9768

The code in pass_in_v read contents from V registers (128 bit), but the
data passed through V registers can be less than 128 bit. In this case,
float is passed. So writing V registers contents into contents buff
will cause overflow. In this patch, we add an array reg[V_REGISTER_SIZE],
which is to hold the contents from V registers, and then copy useful
bits to buf.
