Simon Marchi f168693bc9 Remove CHECK_TYPEDEF, use check_typedef instead
I think that the CHECK_TYPEDEF macro is not necessary, and even a bit
annoying. It makes unclear the fact that the "type" variables gets
overwritten. It has actually bitten me a few times. I think the
following, explicit form, is better.

  type = check_typedef (type);

This patches changes all instances of CHECK_TYPEDEF for an equivalent
call to check_typedef. The bulk of the change was done with this sed:

  sed -i 's/CHECK_TYPEDEF (\([^)]*\));/\1 = check_typedef (\1);/' <file>.c

The ChangeLog was generated using David Malcom's generate_changelog.py.
I manually fixed those places where it gets the wrong function name,
hopefully all of them.

The patch was built-tested, and I ran a few smoke tests.

Pedro Alves 492d29ea1c Split TRY_CATCH into TRY + CATCH
This patch splits the TRY_CATCH macro into three, so that we go from
this:

~~~
  volatile gdb_exception ex;
  TRY_CATCH (ex, RETURN_MASK_ERROR)
    {
    }
  if (ex.reason < 0)
    {
    }
~~~

to this:

~~~
  TRY
    {
    }
  CATCH (ex, RETURN_MASK_ERROR)
    {
    }
  END_CATCH
~~~

Thus, we'll be getting rid of the local volatile exception object, and
declaring the caught exception in the catch block.

This allows reimplementing TRY/CATCH in terms of C++ exceptions when
building in C++ mode, while still allowing to build GDB in C mode
(using setjmp/longjmp), as a transition step.

TBC, after this patch, is it _not_ valid to have code between the TRY
and the CATCH blocks, like:

  TRY
    {
    }

  // some code here.

  CATCH (ex, RETURN_MASK_ERROR)
    {
    }
  END_CATCH

Just like it isn't valid to do that with C++'s native try/catch.

By switching to creating the exception object inside the CATCH block
scope, we can get rid of all the explicitly allocated volatile
exception objects all over the tree, and map the CATCH block more
directly to C++'s catch blocks.

The majority of the TRY_CATCH -> TRY+CATCH+END_CATCH conversion was
done with a script, rerun from scratch at every rebase, no manual
editing involved. After the mechanical conversion, a few places
needed manual intervention, to fix preexisting cases where we were
using the exception object outside of the TRY_CATCH block, and cases
where we were using "else" after a 'if (ex.reason) < 0)' [a CATCH
after this patch]. The result was folded into this patch so that GDB
still builds at each incremental step.

END_CATCH is necessary for two reasons:

First, because we name the exception object in the CATCH block, which
requires creating a scope, which in turn must be closed somewhere.
Declaring the exception variable in the initializer field of a for
block, like:

  #define CATCH(EXCEPTION, mask) \
    for (struct gdb_exception EXCEPTION; \
         exceptions_state_mc_catch (&EXCEPTION, MASK); \
	 EXCEPTION = exception_none)

would avoid needing END_CATCH, but alas, in C mode, we build with C90,
which doesn't allow mixed declarations and code.

Second, because when TRY/CATCH are wired to real C++ try/catch, as
long as we need to handle cleanup chains, even if there's no CATCH
block that wants to catch the exception, we need for stop at every
frame in the unwind chain and run cleanups, then rethrow. That will
be done in END_CATCH.

After we require C++, we'll still need TRY/CATCH/END_CATCH until
cleanups are completely phased out -- TRY/CATCH in C++ mode will
save/restore the current cleanup chain, like in C mode, and END_CATCH
catches otherwise uncaugh exceptions, runs cleanups and rethrows, so
that C++ cleanups and exceptions can coexist.

IMO, this still makes the TRY/CATCH code look a bit more like a
newcomer would expect, so IMO worth it even if we weren't considering
C++.

Ulrich Weigand b1f28d992c Work around GCC bug 63748
A recent change to eval.c triggered a GCC bug that causes a false positive
"may be used uninitialized" warning in evaluate_subexp_standard. This seems
to be triggered by a specific CFG constructed via setjmp and gotos.

While the GCC bug is in the process of being fixed, there are released
compiler versions (in particular GCC 4.9) in the field that show this
problem. In order to allow compiling GDB with one of those compilers,
this commit slightly reworks the CFG (in an equivalent way) of the
affected function, so that the GCC bug is no longer triggered.

Yao Qi ae8fddda32 Remove operator BINOP_RANGE
BINOP_RANGE was added by the following commit for chill language.

commit badefd2800
Author: Per Bothner <per@bothner.com>
Date:   Wed Nov 29 22:59:31 1995 +0000

        * expression.h (enum exp_opcode):  Add BINOP_RANGE.
        * expprint.c (dump_expression):  Support BINOP_RANGE.
        * eval.c (evaluate_subexp_standard):  Handle BINOP_RANGE (as error).
        (case MULTI_SUBSCRIPT): Fix broken f77 value->int ad hoc conversion.
        * ch-lang.c (chill_op_print_tab):  Support BINOP_RANGE.
        (evaluate_subexp_chill):  Error on BINOP_COMMA.

Chill language is no longer supported, so we can remove BINOP_RANGE too.
This patch is to remove BINOP_RANGE.

Tom Tromey 3b7344d5ab use bound_minsym as result for lookup_minimal_symbol et al
This patch changes a few minimal symbol lookup functions to return a
bound_minimal_symbol rather than a pointer to the minsym. This change
helps prepare gdb for computing a minimal symbol's address at the
point of use.

Note that this changes even those functions that ostensibly search a
single objfile. That was necessary because, in fact, those functions
can search an objfile and its separate debug objfiles; and it is
important for the caller to know in which objfile the minimal symbol
was actually found.

The bulk of this patch is mechanical.

Tom Tromey 3a1115a0cc fix PR symtab/15719
This patch fixes PR symtab/15719.

The bug is that "watch -location" crashes on a certain expression.

The problem is that fetch_subexp_value is catching an exception.
For ordinary watchpoints this is ok; but for location watchpoints,
it is better for the exception to propagate.

Built and regtested on x86-64 Fedora 18.
New test case included.

	PR symtab/15719:

Pedro Alves 4819b3f897 Fix ptype bug actually exercised in userdef.exp
I happened to notice a bug with ptype &Ref, and found out userdef.exp
actually exercises the bug.  With:

class Container
{
public:
  Member m;

  Member& operator* ();
};

Member& Container::operator* ()
{
  return this->m;
}

And 'c' is of type Container:

(gdb) p c
$1 = {m = {z = -9192}}
(gdb) p *c
$2 = (Member &) @0x7fffffffda20: {z = -9192}
(gdb) ptype *c
type = class Member {
  public:
    int z;
} &

(gdb) p &*c
$3 = (Member *) 0x7fffffffda20

(gdb) ptype &*c
type = class Member {
  public:
    int z;
} &*
(gdb)

Notice that last print (&*c) on says the type is a pointer - that's
how you get the address behind a reference. But notice the last ptype
instead says the type of the same expression is a pointer _reference_.
This looks like a bug to me.

This patch fixes it. The issue is that we're entering the VALUE_LVAL
(x) == lval_memory branch by mistake for references. The fix is just
to swap the tests so references are checked first, like value_addr
also handles references first.

Tested on x86_64 Fedora 17.
