3b12939dfc Replace the sync_execution global with a new enum prompt_state tristate 
When sync_execution (a boolean) is true, it means we're running a
foreground command -- we hide the prompt stop listening to input, give
the inferior the terminal, then go to the event loop waiting for the
target to stop.

With multiple independent UIs, we need to track whether each UI is
synchronously blocked waiting for the target.  IOW, if you do
"continue" in one console, that console stops accepting commands, but
you should still be free to type other commands in the others
consoles.

Just simply making sync_execution be per-UI alone not sufficient,
because of this in fetch_inferior_event:

We'd have to record at entry the "was_sync" state for each UI, not
just of the current UI.

This patch instead replaces the sync_execution flag by a per-UI
tristate flag indicating the command line prompt state:

I think the end result is _much_ clearer than the current code, and,
it addresses the original motivation too.

b2d86570b3 Simplify starting the command event loop 
All interpreter types (CLI/TUI/MI) print the prompt, and then call
start_event_loop.

Because we'll need an interpreter hook to display the
interpreter-specific prompt before going back to the event loop,
without actually starting an event loop, this patch moves the
start_event_loop call to common code, and replaces the command_loop
hook with a pre_command_look hook, that now just prints the prompt.

Turns out to be a cleanup on its own right anyway.

694ec099d2 Make out and error streams be per UI 
stderr_fileopen () references stderr directly, which doesn't work when
we have a separate UI with its own stderr-like stream.  So this also
adds a "errstream" to "struct ui", and plumbs stderr_fileopen to take
a stream parameter.

41fd2b0f5d Make input_fd be per UI 
And with that, we can switch the current UI to the UI whose input
descriptor woke up the event loop.  IOW, if the user types in UI 2,
the event loop wakes up, switches to UI 2, and processes the input.
Next the user types in UI 3, the event loop wakes up and switches to
UI 3, etc.

8322445e05 Introduce interpreter factories 
If every UI instance has its own set of interpreters, then the current
scheme of creating the interpreters at GDB initialization time no
longer works.  We need to create them whenever a new UI instance is
created.

The scheme implemented here has each interpreter register a factory
callback that when called creates a new instance of a specific
interpreter type.  Then, when some code in gdb looks up an interpreter
(always by name), if there's none yet, the factory method is called to
construct one.

cb81451067 Make the interpreters be per UI 
Make each UI have its own interpreter list, top level interpreter,
current interpreter, etc.  The "interpreter_async" global is not
really specific to an struct interp (it crosses interpreter-exec ...),
so I moved it to "struct ui" directly, while the other globals were
left hidden in interps.c, opaque to the rest of GDB.

79aa2fe86f Make gdb_stdout&co be per UI 
We need to have these send output to the proper UI.

However, this patch still make them look like globals.  Kind of like
__thread variables, if you will.  Changing everything throughout to
write something like current_ui->gdb_stdout instead would be massive
overkill, IMNSHO.

This leaves gdb_stdtargin/stdtarg/stdtargerr global, but maybe that was a
mistake, I'm not sure -- IIRC, MI formats target I/O differently, so
if we have a separate MI channel, then I guess target output should go
there instead of to gdb's stdout.  OTOH, maybe GDB should send that
instead to "set inferior-tty", instead of multiplexing it over MI.  We
can always fix those later when it gets clearer where they should go.

b36cec19e8 Add missing sentinel 'char *' casts in concat/reconcat calls 
The wildebeest-debian-wheezy-i686 buildslave's build is broken due to:

 ../../binutils-gdb/gdb/python/python.c: In function void _initialize_python():
 ../../binutils-gdb/gdb/python/python.c:1709:36: error: missing sentinel in function call [-Werror=format]

Reproduced on Fedora 23 by sticking a few:

 #undef NULL
 #define 0

in build/gdb/build-gnulib/{stddef|signal|stdio}.h.  Hopefully this
caught all instances.

f39c07acc8 Cast the pointer assigned to ss_sp to char *. 
FreeBSD versions older than 11.0 use char * as the type of ss_sp in
stack_t instead of the standards-defined void *.  C++ allows a char *
pointer to be converted to a void *, so it is safe to cast the return
value of xmalloc to char * if ss_sp is either a char * or void *.
Just always use the cast to char * since that is less ugly than having
to add a special case.

da1e5f545c Don't call clear_quit_flag in captured_main 
This call seems pointless.  For instance, a SIGINT handler is only
installed later on.  And if wasn't, I can't see why we'd want to lose
a Ctrl-C request.

Getting rid of this allows getting rid of clear_quit_flag.

2669cade3d Simplify saved_command_line handling 
There doesn't seem to be much point in trying to reuse this buffer.
Prefer simplicity instead.

(In case you're wondering whether this fixes an off-by-one: linelength
is misnamed; it's really a size including terminating null char.)

The commands that enables aren't even documented in the manual.
Judging from that, I assume that only wdb users would ever really
be using the --xdb switch.

I think it's time to drop "support" for the --xdb switch too.  I
looked through the commands that that exposes, the only that looked
potentially interesting was "go", but then it's just an alias
for "tbreak+jump", which can easily be done with "define go...end".
I'd rather free up the "go" name for something potentially
more interesting (either run control, or maybe even unrelated,
e.g., for golang).

284e6217cf kill volatile struct gdb_exception 
After the previous patch, this is the last remaining use of a volatile
struct gdb_exception.  Kill it, as it's troublesome for C++: we can't

492d29ea1c Split TRY_CATCH into TRY + CATCH 
This patch splits the TRY_CATCH macro into three, so that we go from
this:

Thus, we'll be getting rid of the local volatile exception object, and
declaring the caught exception in the catch block.

This allows reimplementing TRY/CATCH in terms of C++ exceptions when
building in C++ mode, while still allowing to build GDB in C mode
(using setjmp/longjmp), as a transition step.

TBC, after this patch, is it _not_ valid to have code between the TRY
and the CATCH blocks, like:

  TRY
    {
    }

  // some code here.

  CATCH (ex, RETURN_MASK_ERROR)
    {
    }
  END_CATCH

Just like it isn't valid to do that with C++'s native try/catch.

By switching to creating the exception object inside the CATCH block
scope, we can get rid of all the explicitly allocated volatile
exception objects all over the tree, and map the CATCH block more
directly to C++'s catch blocks.

The majority of the TRY_CATCH -> TRY+CATCH+END_CATCH conversion was
done with a script, rerun from scratch at every rebase, no manual
editing involved.  After the mechanical conversion, a few places
needed manual intervention, to fix preexisting cases where we were
using the exception object outside of the TRY_CATCH block, and cases
where we were using "else" after a 'if (ex.reason) < 0)' [a CATCH
after this patch].  The result was folded into this patch so that GDB
still builds at each incremental step.

END_CATCH is necessary for two reasons:

First, because we name the exception object in the CATCH block, which
requires creating a scope, which in turn must be closed somewhere.
Declaring the exception variable in the initializer field of a for
block, like:

  #define CATCH(EXCEPTION, mask) \
    for (struct gdb_exception EXCEPTION; \
         exceptions_state_mc_catch (&EXCEPTION, MASK); \
	 EXCEPTION = exception_none)

would avoid needing END_CATCH, but alas, in C mode, we build with C90,
which doesn't allow mixed declarations and code.

Second, because when TRY/CATCH are wired to real C++ try/catch, as
long as we need to handle cleanup chains, even if there's no CATCH
block that wants to catch the exception, we need for stop at every
frame in the unwind chain and run cleanups, then rethrow.  That will
be done in END_CATCH.

After we require C++, we'll still need TRY/CATCH/END_CATCH until
cleanups are completely phased out -- TRY/CATCH in C++ mode will
save/restore the current cleanup chain, like in C mode, and END_CATCH
catches otherwise uncaugh exceptions, runs cleanups and rethrows, so
that C++ cleanups and exceptions can coexist.

IMO, this still makes the TRY/CATCH code look a bit more like a
newcomer would expect, so IMO worth it even if we weren't considering
C++.

52059ffd69 Fix struct, union, and enum nesting in C++ 
In C, an enum or structure defined inside other structure has global
scope just like it had been defined outside the struct in the first
place.  However, in C++, such a nested structure is given a name that
is nested inside the structure.  This patch moves such affected
structures/enums out to global scope, so that code using them works
the same in C++ as it works today in C.

98880d46bd gdb/17347 - Regression: GDB stopped on run with attached process 
Doing:

  gdb --pid=PID -ex run

Results in GDB getting a SIGTTIN, and thus ending stopped.  That's
usually indicative of a missing target_terminal_ours call.

E.g., from the PR:

 $ sleep 1h & p=$!; sleep 0.1; gdb -batch sleep $p -ex run
 [1] 28263
 [1]   Killed                  sleep 1h

 [2]+  Stopped                 gdb -batch sleep $p -ex run

The workaround is doing:

 gdb -ex "attach $PID" -ex "run"

instead of

 gdb [-p] $PID -ex "run"

With the former, gdb waits for the attach command to complete before
moving on to the "run" command, because the interpreter is in sync
mode at this point, within execute_command.  But for the latter,
attach_command is called directly from captured_main, and thus misses
that waiting.  IOW, "run" is running before the attach continuation
has run, before the program stops and attach completes.  The broken
terminal settings are just one symptom of that.  Any command that
queries or requires input results in the same.

The fix is to wait in catch_command_errors (which is specific to
main.c nowadays), just like we wait in execute_command.

075c703382 Unify startup and option-parsing warnings 
Various warnings are emitted during startup and option-parsing using
fprintf_unfiltered.  One warning is prefixed with the command name,
the others are not.  This commit replaces these hardwired warnings
with calls to warning.  It also sets warning_pre_print to prefix all
warnings with the command name until option parsing is complete.

fd0ef3dda9 Replace hardwired error handler in captured_main 
If the requested interpreter cannot be set captured_main reports the
error with a hardwired fprintf/exit pair.  A fprintf/exit pair on the
previous line was replaced with a call to error in March 2003
(https://sourceware.org/ml/gdb-patches/2003-03/msg00444.html) but I
found no documentation as to why this particular hardwired handler
was left untouched.  I was also unable to come up with a situation
where error would not be suitable, so I have replaced it with a call
to error.

5f08566b92 constify exec_file_attach 
This constifies exec_file_attach and updates the rest of gdb.

Insight will need some minor tweaks after this, though it's worth
noting that I think all that hook stuff can actually just go away.  I
sent a patch to this effect once, but since the Insight source
repository situation isn't currently resolved there wasn't a
convenient way to test it.

Usually, if an error propagates all the way to the top level, we'll
re-enable stdin, in case the command that was running was a
synchronous command.  That's done in the event loop's actual loop
(event-loop.c:start_event_loop).  However, if a foreground execution
command is run before the event loop starts and throws, nothing is
presently reenabling stdin, which leaves sync_execution set.

When we do start the event loop, because sync_execution is still
(mistakenly) set, display_gdb_prompt removes the readline input
callback, even though stdin is registered in the event loop.  Any
input from here on results in readline aborting.

Such commands are run through catch_command_errors,
catch_command_errors_const, so add the tweak there.

9d1e69a214 Move catch_command_errors and catch_command_errors_const to main.c 
We'll need to add error handling code to commands run before the event
loop starts (commands in .gdbinit, -ex commands, etc.).  Turns out
those are run through catch_command_errors, and, catch_command_errors
is used nowhere else.  Move it (and the _const variant) to main.c, so
that we can further specialize it freely.

992c7d700f Demangler crash handler 
This commit wraps calls to the demangler with a segmentation fault
handler.  The first time a segmentation fault is caught a core file
is generated and the user is prompted to file a bug and offered the
choice to exit or to continue their GDB session.  A maintainence
option is provided to allow the user to disable the crash handler
if required.

50dd979345 Constify main.c:get_init_files. 
A following patch will want to make the "gdbinit" global array const.
As usual, that forces in a cascading series of const additions.  This
patch preemptively does those.  I went all the way up to constifying
catch_command_errors, but then that would require constifying
execute_command as well (which is a much more significant effort).  So
as stop point, I found the cleanest would be to add a variant of
catch_command_errors that takes const args, and use that in the few
spots that needed it due to the the get_init_files constification.

b5981e5adf Fix relocation of directories in the MinGW build. 
windows-nat.c (windows_get_absolute_argv0): New function.
 windows-nat.h: Add its prototype.
 main.c (get_init_files): Use filename_ncmp instead of strncmp.
 Use IS_DIR_SEPARATOR instead of looking for a character inside
 SLASH_STRING.  Include filenames.h.
 (captured_main) [__MINGW32__]: Make argv[0] absolute, so that
 relocate_gdb_directory works when passed gdb_program_name.
 Include windows-nat.h.
