Doug Evans 5e3c72e6b8 value_maybe_namespace_elt: Remove redundant call to lookup_static_symbol.
Anytime you can remove a symbol lookup that loops over all objfiles
is A Good Thing.

The call to lookup_static_symbol in valops.c:value_maybe_namespace_elt
is redundant with this call in cp_lookup_nested_symbol:

	/* Now search all static file-level symbols.  We have to do this
	   for things like typedefs in the class.  We do not try to
	   guess any imported namespace as even the fully specified
	   namespace search is already not C++ compliant and more
	   assumptions could make it too magic.  */

	size = strlen (parent_name) + 2 + strlen (nested_name) + 1;
	concatenated_name = alloca (size);
	xsnprintf (concatenated_name, size, "%s::%s",
		 parent_name, nested_name);

Earlier in value_maybe_namespace_elt we do this:

  sym = cp_lookup_symbol_namespace (namespace_name, name,
				    get_selected_block (0), VAR_DOMAIN);

That sequence goes like:

value_maybe_namespace_elt
-> cp_lookup_symbol_namespace
-> cp_lookup_symbol_in_namespace
-> lookup_symbol_file
-> cp_lookup_nested_symbol
-> lookup_static_symbol

At the time the call to lookup_static_symbol (spelled
lookup_static_symbol_aux at the time) was needed.

However, this patch, 8dea366bbe,
https://sourceware.org/ml/gdb-patches/2012-11/msg00387.html
augmented lookup_symbol_file to call cp_lookup_nested_symbol
and introduced the redundancy.

It's kinda buried, so it's totally not unexpected that this happened.

Doug Evans ae6a105d22 value_maybe_namespace_elt: Remove unnecessary test of result != NULL.
Both allocate_value and value_of_variable are guaranteed to return non-NULL.

Doug Evans 24d864bb95 Rename lookup_symbol_static to lookup_symbol_in_static_block,
and lookup_static_symbol_aux to lookup_static_symbol.

Gary Benson c765fdb902 Remove spurious exceptions.h inclusions
defs.h includes utils.h, and utils.h includes exceptions.h.  All GDB
.c files include defs.h as their first line, so no file other than
utils.h needs to include exceptions.h.  This commit removes all such
inclusions.

Luis Machado 3e87153251 MIPS bit field failures in gdb.base/store.exp
On MIPS64 little endian, attempting an assignment to a bit field
that lives in a register yields the wrong result. It just corrupts
the data in the register depending on the specific position of the
bit field inside the structure.

Now, GDB knows how to do bit field assignment properly, but MIPS is
one of those architectures that uses a hook for the register-to-value
conversion. Although we can properly tell when the type being passed
is a structure or union, we cannot tell when it is a bit field,
because the bit field data lives in a value structure.  Such data
only lives in a "type" structure when the parent structure is being
referenced, thus you can collect them from the flds_bnds members.

A bit field type structure looks pretty much the same as any other
primitive type like int or char, so we can't distinguish them.
Forcing more fields into the type structure wouldn't help much,
because the type structs are shared.

Siva Chandra e66d444669 Add new argument NOSIDE to find_overload_match.
This is a fix for PR c++/17132.
If this new argument is set to EVAL_AVOID_SIDE_EFFECTS, then the object's
memory will not be read while picking the best overload match.

Gary Benson bb974a2493 Move errno.h to common-defs.h
This commit moves the inclusion of errno.h to common-defs.h and
removes all other inclusions.  Note that prior to this commit
server.h included errno.h protected by "#ifdef HAVE_ERRNO_H".
This protection was added with the Windows CE port, which is
currently broken.  Since no other platform needs this, I have
removed the protection and the configury to support it.

Tom Tromey 3977b71f1d constify struct block in some places
This makes some spots in gdb, particularly general_symbol_info, use a
"const struct block", then fixes the fallout.

The justification is that, ordinarily, blocks ought to be readonly.
Note though that we can't add "const" in the blockvector due to block
relocation.  This can be done once blocks are made independent of the
program space.

Tom Tromey 3d567982ac implement support for "enum class"
This adds support for the C++11 "enum class" feature.  This is
PR c++/15246.

I chose to use the existing TYPE_DECLARED_CLASS rather than introduce
a new type code.  This seemed both simple and clear to me.

I made overloading support for the new enum types strict.  This is how
it works in C++; and it didn't seem like an undue burden to keep this,

The dwarf standard allow certain attributes to be expressed as dwarf
expressions rather than constants. For instance upper-/lowerbound attributes.
In case of a c99 variable length array the upperbound is a dynamic attribute.

With this change c99 vla behave the same as with static arrays.

Tom Tromey 77e371c079 start change to progspace independence
This patch starts changing minimal symbols to be independent of the
program space.

Specifically, it adds a new objfile parameter to MSYMBOL_VALUE_ADDRESS
and changes all the code to use it.  This is needed so we can change
gdb to apply the section offset when a minsym's address is computed,
as opposed to baking the offsets into the symbol itself.

A few spots still need the unrelocated address.  For these, we
introduce MSYMBOL_VALUE_RAW_ADDRESS.

As a convenience, we also add the new macro BMSYMBOL_VALUE_ADDRESS,
which computes the address of a bound minimal symbol.  This just does
the obvious thing with the fields.

Note that this change does not actually enable program space
independence.  That requires more changes to gdb.  However, to ensure
that these changes compile properly, this patch does add the needed
section lookup code to MSYMBOL_VALUE_ADDRESS -- it just ensures it has
no effect at runtime by multiplying the offset by 0.

Tom Tromey efd66ac669 change minsym representation
In a later patch we're going to change the minimal symbol address
calculation to apply section offsets at the point of use.  To make it
simpler to catch potential problem spots, this patch changes the
representation of minimal symbols and introduces new
minimal-symbol-specific variants of the various accessors.  This is
necessary because it would be excessively ambitious to try to convert
all the symbol types at once.

The core of this change is just renaming a field in minimal_symbol;
the rest is just a fairly mechanical rewording.

Yao Qi bc113b4e3e Rename TARGET_XFER_E_UNAVAILABLE to TARGET_XFER_UNAVAILABLE
Nowadays, TARGET_XFER_E_UNAVAILABLE isn't regarded as an error in
to_xfer_partial interface, so _E_ looks odd.  This patch is to
replace TARGET_XFER_E_UNAVAILABLE with TARGET_XFER_UNAVAILABLE,
and change its value from -2 to 2.  Since there is no comparison
on the value of 'enum target_xfer_status', so it should be safe.

As the new to_xfer_partial implementations are done in ctf and tfile
targets, read_value_memory can be simplified a lot.  Call
target_xfer_partial in a loop, check return value, and set bytes
unavailable when necessary.

Joel Brobecker a7c88acd1e Minor reformatting in valops.c::value_slice
I noticed that a small lexical block was over indented by 2 characters.
So this patch starts by reducing the indentation.

While looking at this area of the code, I also noticed a couple of lines
that had trailing spaces, so this patch also removes them.

And finally, it fixes one tiny to put the assignment operator at
the start of the next line, rather than at the end of the first line.

Honggyu Kim e261678878 Remove duplicated #include's from GDB
This patch simply removes duplicated #include statements in the gdb/
directory.  If there are two duplicated #include statements, this patch
keeps the first #include and removes the second.

Those duplicates have been found by using the checkincludes.pl tool from
the Linux kernel and double checked manually once again if the #include
statements are affected by #ifdef macros.

Pedro Alves 686d4defdf Print nonexisting/optimized out static fields gracefully.
With:

 struct static_struct { static int aaa; };
 struct static_struct sss;
 int main () { return 0; }

We get:

 (gdb) p sss
 $1 = {static aaa = <optimized out>}
 (gdb) p sss.aaa
 field aaa is nonexistent or has been optimized out

Note that the "field aaa ..." message is an error being thrown.

GDB is graceful everywhere else when printing optimized out values.
IOW it usually prints an <optimized out> value and puts that in the
value history.  I see no reason for here to be different, more so that
when the print the whole "containing" object (well, it's a static
field, so it's not really a container), we already print <optimized
out>.

After the patch:

 (gdb) p sss
 $1 = {static aaa = <optimized out>}
 (gdb) p sss.aaa
 $2 = <optimized out>

The value_entirely_optimized_out checks are there to preserve
behavior.  Without those, if the static field is a struct/union, GDB
would go and print its fields one by one (and print <optimized out>
for each).

Tested on x86_64 Fedora 17.

Tom Tromey 7c7b66552d remove msymbol_objfile
This is another patch in my ongoing series to "split" objfile to share
more read-only data across inferiors.  See

When symbols are finally shared, there will be no back-link from the
symbol to its containing objfile, because there may be more than one
such objfile.  So, all such back-links must be removed.

One hidden back-link is the msymbol_objfile function.  Since
(eventually) a symbol may appear in more than one objfile, trying to
look up the objfile given just a symbol cannot work.

This patch removes msymbol_objfile in favor of using a bound minimal
symbol.  It introduces a new function to make this conversion simpler
in some spots.

The bonus of this patch is that using msymbol_objfile is slower than
simply looking up the owning objfile in the first place.

Built and regtested on x86-64 Fedora 18.
