I2C adapter drivers are supposed to handle retries on nack by themselves
if they do, so there's no point in setting .retries if they don't.
As this retry mechanism is going away (at least in its current form),
clean this up now so that we don't get build failures later.

All kobjects require a dynamically allocated name now. We no longer
need to keep track if the name is statically assigned, we can just
unconditionally free() all kobject names on cleanup.

Because the data field was never filled and a binary sysctl handler was
never written this sysctl has never been usable through the sys_sysctl
interface. So just remove the binary sysctl number. Making the kernel
sanity checks happy.

Right now TLB entry 0 ist used as UART0 mapping for the early debug
output (via CONFIG_SERIAL_TEXT_DEBUG). This causes problems when many
TLB's get used upon Linux bootup (e.g. while PCIe scanning behind
bridges and/or switches on 440SPe platforms). This will overwrite the
TLB 0 entry and further debug output's may crash/hang the system.
This patch moves the early debug UART0 TLB entry from 0 to 62 as done
in arch/powerpc. This way it is in the "pinned" area and will not get
overwritten. Also the arch/ppc/mm/44x_mmu.c code is now synced with the
newer code from arch/powerpc.

This adds a cputable function pointer for the CPU-side machine
check handling. The semantic is still the same as the old one,
the one in ppc_md. overrides the one in cputable, though
ultimately we'll want to change that so the CPU gets first.
This removes CONFIG_440A which was a problem for multiplatform
kernels and instead fixes up the IVOR at runtime from a setup_cpu
function. The "A" version of the machine check also tweaks the
regs->trap value to differenciate the 2 versions at the C level.

Remove an unnecessary pci_dev_put. pci_dev_put is called implicitly
by the subsequent call to pci_get_device.
The problem was detected using the following semantic patch, and
corrected by hand.

The ml300 and ml403 xparameters.h files use different macros for the
AC97 interrupt pin assignments. This normalizes them to a canonical
value similar to what EDK generates for most other devices. This is
needed to get ml300 support to compile in arch/ppc.

This fixes arch/ppc 440EP platforms to setup the FPU correctly. A virtual
PVR is used, as 440GR platforms share an identical hardware PVR value and do
not have an FPU.

The context switch code in the kernel issues a dummy stwcx. to clear the
reservation, as recommended by the architecture. However, some processors
can have issues if this stwcx to address A occurs while the reservation
is already held to a different address B. To avoid this problem, the dummy
stwcx. needs to be paired with a dummy lwarx to the same address.
This adds the dummy lwarx, and creates a cpu feature bit to indicate
which cpus are affected. Tested on mpc8641_hpcn_defconfig in
arch/powerpc; build tested in arch/ppc.

is not working anymore on PPC and POWERPC and produces WATCHDOG
timeouts.

mmu_mapin_ram() loops over total_lowmem to setup page tables. However, if
total_lowmem is less that 16M, the subtraction rolls over and results in
a number just under 4G (because total_lowmem is an unsigned value).
This patch rejigs the loop from countup to countdown to eliminate the
bug.
Special thanks to Magnus Hjorth who wrote the original patch to fix this
bug. This patch improves on his by making the loop code simpler (which
also eliminates the possibility of another rollover at the high end)
and also applies the change to arch/powerpc.

The 44x family has an interesting "feature" which is a virtually
tagged instruction cache (yuck !). So far, we haven't dealt with
it properly, which means we've been mostly lucky or people didn't
report the problems, unless people have been running custom patches
in their distro...
This is an attempt at fixing it properly. I chose to do it by
setting a global flag whenever we change a PTE that was previously
marked executable, and flush the entire instruction cache upon
return to user space when that happens.
This is a bit heavy handed, but it's hard to do more fine grained
flushes as the icbi instruction, on those processor, for some very
strange reasons (since the cache is virtually mapped) still requires
a valid TLB entry for reading in the target address space, which
isn't something I want to deal with.

On 4xx CPUs, the current implementation of flush_tlb_page() uses
a low level _tlbie() assembly function that only works for the
current PID. Thus, invalidations caused by, for example, a COW
fault triggered by get_user_pages() from a different context will
not work properly, causing among other things, gdb breakpoints
to fail.
This patch adds a "pid" argument to _tlbie() on 4xx processors,
and uses it to flush entries in the right context. FSL BookE
also gets the argument but it seems they don't need it (their
tlbivax form ignores the PID when invalidating according to the
document I have).

Commit 9a39e273d4 removed the boot directory
addition to CFLAGS that was being used by the subdirectory builds. For the
other files, that patch set EXTRA_CFLAGS, but Makefile.build explicitly
sets that to empty as it is explicitly for a single directory only.
Append to KBUILD_CFLAGS instead.

is_init() is an ambiguous name for the pid==1 check. Split it into
is_global_init() and is_container_init().
A cgroup init has it's tsk->pid == 1.
A global init also has it's tsk->pid == 1 and it's active pid namespace
is the init_pid_ns. But rather than check the active pid namespace,
compare the task structure with 'init_pid_ns.child_reaper', which is
initialized during boot to the /sbin/init process and never changes.

Fix up conflicts in arch/um/sys-{x86_64,i386}/Makefile manually.
We have had complaints where a threaded application is left in a bad state
after one of it's threads is killed when we hit a VM: out_of_memory
condition.
Killing just one of the process threads can leave the application in a bad
state, whereas killing the entire process group would allow for the
application to restart, or be otherwise handled, and makes it very obvious
that something has gone wrong.
This change allows the entire process group to be taken down, rather
than just the one thread.

The variable CPPFLAGS is a wellknown variable and the usage by
kbuild may result in unexpected behaviour.
This patch replace use of CPPFLAGS with KBUILD_CPPFLAGS all over the
tree and enabling one to use:
make CPPFLAGS=...
to specify additional CPP commandline options.
Patch was tested on following architectures:
alpha, arm, i386, x86_64, mips, sparc, sparc64, ia64, m68k, s390

Commit 8112753bb2 made 44x in
ARCH=powerpc builds use cpu setup routines in cpu_setup_44x.S,
but didn't make a similar change for ARCH=ppc, and consequently
the ARCH=ppc builds fail with undefined symbols (since both use
the same cputable.c).
This fixes it by including cpu_setup_44x.S in the ARCH=ppc builds,
and by taking out the now-redundant FPU initialization in
arch/ppc/kernel/head_44x.S.

The Uartlite data sheet defines the registers as 32 bit wide. This
patch changes the register access to use 32 bit transfers and eliminates
the magic +3 offset which is currently required to make the device
work.

Currently the prep_defconfig in arch/ppc won't build due to swsusp
being broken. This patch avoids the problem by essentially disabling
all power management on those platforms left in arch/ppc.

cpm_dpram_addr returns physical memory of the DP RAM instead of

This patch fixes arch/ppc kernels, at least for prep subarch, after
build-id addition. Without this, kernels were 3 times the size and
bootloader refused to load them. Now they are back to normal again.
Tested only with Roland McGrath's "Use LDFLAGS_MODULE only for .ko
links" patch applied - boots and works fine.

Instantiation of 8MB pages on the TLB cache for the kernel static
mapping trashes r3 register on !CONFIG_8xx_CPU6 configurations.
This ensures r3 gets saved and restored.
This has been posted to linuxppc-embedded by Marcelo Tosatti
<marcelo@kvack.org>, but only an incomplete version of the patch
has been applied in c51e078f82.
This patch adds the rest of the fix.

The 440 family of processors don't have a tlbie instruction. So, we
implement TLB invalidates by explicitly searching the TLB with tlbsx.,
then clobbering the relevant entry, if any. Unfortunately the PID for
the search needs to be stored in the MMUCR register, which is also
used by the TLB miss handler. Interrupts were enabled in _tlbie(), so
an interrupt between loading the MMUCR and the tlbsx could cause
incorrect search results, and thus a failure to invalide TLB entries
which needed to be invalidated.
This fixes the problem in both arch/ppc and arch/powerpc by inhibiting
interrupts (even critical and debug interrupts) across the relevant
instructions.

The driver previously registered its platform device data in its own
init function--that's bogus. Move that code to platform-specific
code in arch/ppc. This is being done so that the platform code can
decide at runtime whether to initialize this driver or not.

Manual fixup of trivial conflict in MAINTAINERS file
per cpu data section contains two types of data. One set which is
exclusively accessed by the local cpu and the other set which is per cpu,
but also shared by remote cpus. In the current kernel, these two sets are
not clearely separated out. This can potentially cause the same data
cacheline shared between the two sets of data, which will result in
unnecessary bouncing of the cacheline between cpus.
One way to fix the problem is to cacheline align the remotely accessed per
cpu data, both at the beginning and at the end. Because of the padding at
both ends, this will likely cause some memory wastage and also the
interface to achieve this is not clean.
This patch:
Moves the remotely accessed per cpu data (which is currently marked
as ____cacheline_aligned_in_smp) into a different section, where all the data
elements are cacheline aligned. And as such, this differentiates the local
only data and remotely accessed data cleanly.

This patch completes Linus's wish that the fault return codes be made into
bit flags, which I agree makes everything nicer. This requires requires
all handle_mm_fault callers to be modified (possibly the modifications
should go further and do things like fault accounting in handle_mm_fault --
however that would be for another patch).

If the kernel OOPSed or BUGed then it probably should be considered as
tainted. Thus, all subsequent OOPSes and SysRq dumps will report the
tainted kernel. This saves a lot of time explaining oddities in the
calltraces.

The current generic bug implementation has a call to dump_stack() in case a
WARN_ON(whatever) gets hit. Since report_bug(), which calls dump_stack(),
gets called from an exception handler we can do better: just pass the
pt_regs structure to report_bug() and pass it to show_regs() in case of a
warning. This will give more debug informations like register contents,
etc... In addition this avoids some pointless lines that dump_stack()
emits, since it includes a stack backtrace of the exception handler which
is of no interest in case of a warning. E.g. on s390 the following lines
are currently always present in a stack backtrace if dump_stack() gets
called from report_bug():

sysfs is now completely out of driver/module lifetime game. After
deletion, a sysfs node doesn't access anything outside sysfs proper,
so there's no reason to hold onto the attribute owners. Note that
often the wrong modules were accounted for as owners leading to
accessing removed modules.
This patch kills now unnecessary attribute->owner. Note that with
this change, userland holding a sysfs node does not prevent the
backing module from being unloaded.

The PCI syscalls are built on every architecture except X86, but only
a few have ever hooked them up. Use a new Kconfig symbol to save a
couple of kB on the architectures that have never used the syscalls.

I'm not sure if this is going to fly, weak symbols work on the compilers I'm
using, but whether they work for all of the affected architectures I can't say.
I've cc'ed as many arch maintainers/lists as I could find.
But assuming they do, we can use a weak empty definition of
pcibios_add_platform_entries() to avoid having an empty definition on every
arch.

There are times that we need to know which controller we are on to decide
how to exclude devices properly. We now pass the pci_controller that we
are going to use down to the pci_exclude_device function. This will
greatly simplify being able to exclude the PHBs in multiple controller
setups.

asm-powerpc/processor.h declares, and arch/ppc/platforms/prep_setup.c
defines variables ucBoardRev, ucBoardRevMaj and ucBoardRevMin which

Currently the powerpc kernel has a 64-bit only feature,
COHERENT_ICACHE used for those CPUS which maintain icache/dcache
coherency in hardware (POWER5, essentially). It also has a feature,
SPLIT_ID_CACHE, which is used on CPUs which have separate i and
d-caches, which is to say everything except 601 and Freescale E200.
In nearly all the places we check the SPLIT_ID_CACHE, what we actually
care about is whether the i and d-caches are coherent (which they will
be, trivially, if they're the same cache).
This tries to clarify the situation a little. The COHERENT_ICACHE
feature becomes availble on 32-bit and is set for all CPUs where i and
d-cache are effectively coherent, whether this is due to special logic
(POWER5) or because they're unified. We check this, instead of
SPLIT_ID_CACHE nearly everywhere.
The SPLIT_ID_CACHE feature itself is replaced by a UNIFIED_ID_CACHE
feature with reversed sense, set only on 601 and Freescale E200. In
the two places (one Freescale BookE specific) where we really care
whether it's a unified cache, not whether they're coherent, we check
this feature. The CPUs with unified cache are so few, we could
consider replacing this feature bit with explicit checks against the
PVR.
This will make unifying the 32-bit and 64-bit cache flush code a
little more straightforward.

The rheap allocation functions return a pointer, but the actual value is based
on how the heap was initialized, and so it can be anything, e.g. an offset
into a buffer. A ulong is a better representation of the value returned by
the allocation functions.
This patch changes all of the relevant rheap functions to use a unsigned long
integers instead of a pointer. In case of an error, the value returned is
a negative error code that has been cast to an unsigned long. The caller can
use the IS_ERR_VALUE() macro to check for this.
All code which calls the rheap functions is updated accordingly. Macros
IS_MURAM_ERR() and IS_DPERR(), have been deleted in favor of IS_ERR_VALUE().
Also added error checking to rh_attach_region().
