Le Tan a52a7fdfa7 intel-iommu: add Intel IOMMU emulation to q35 and add a machine option "iommu" as a switch
Add Intel IOMMU emulation to q35 chipset and expose it to the guest.
1. Add a machine option. Users can use "-machine iommu=on|off" in the command
line to enable/disable Intel IOMMU. The default is off.
2. Accroding to the machine option, q35 will initialize the Intel IOMMU and
use pci_setup_iommu() to setup q35_host_dma_iommu() as the IOMMU function for
the pci bus.
3. q35_host_dma_iommu() will return different address space according to the
bus_num and devfn of the device.

Yang Zhiyong bc78cff975 trace: add qemu_system_powerdown_request and qemu_system_shutdown_request trace events
We have the experience that the guest doesn't stop successfully
though it was instructed to shut down.

The root cause may be not in QEMU mostly. However, QEMU is often
suspected at the beginning just because the issue occurred in
virtualization environment.

Therefore, we need to affirm that QEMU received the shutdown
request and raised ACPI irq from "virsh shutdown" command,
virt-manger or stopping QEMU process to the VM .
So that we can affirm the problems was belonged to the Guset OS
rather than the QEMU itself.

When we stop guests by "virsh shutdown" command or virt-manger,
or stopping QEMU process, qemu_system_powerdown_request() or
qemu_system_shutdown_request() is called. Then the below functions
in main_loop_should_exit() of Vl.c are called roughly in the
following order.

	if (qemu_powerdown_requested())
		qemu_system_powerdown()
			monitor_protocol_event(QEVENT_POWERDOWN, NULL)

	OR

	if(qemu_shutdown_requested()}
		monitor_protocol_event(QEVENT_SHUTDOWN, NULL);

The tracepoint of monitor_protocol_event() already exists, but no
tracepoints are defined for qemu_system_powerdown_request() and
qemu_system_shutdown_request(). So this patch adds two tracepoints for
the two functions. We believe that it will become much easier to
isolate the problem mentioned above by these tracepoints.

Amit Shah abfd9ce341 migration: dump vmstate info as a json file for static analysis
This commit adds a new command, '-dump-vmstate', that takes a filename
as an argument. When executed, QEMU will dump the vmstate information
for the machine type it's invoked with to the file, and quit.

The JSON-format output can then be used to compare the vmstate info for
different QEMU versions, specifically to test whether live migration
would break due to changes in the vmstate data.

A Python script that compares the output of such JSON dumps is included
in the following commit.

Don Slutz c87b152072 pc & q35: Add new machine opt max-ram-below-4g
This is a pc & q35 only machine opt.

If you add enough PCI devices then all mmio for them will not fit
below 4G which may not be the layout the user wanted. This allows
you to increase the below 4G address space that PCI devices can use
(aka decrease ram below 4G) and therefore in more cases not have any
mmio that is above 4G.

For example using "-machine pc,max-ram-below-4g=2G" on the command
line will limit the amount of ram that is below 4G to 2G.

Note: this machine option cannot be used to increase the amount
of ram below 4G.

Paolo Bonzini 74892d2468 vl: allow other threads to do qemu_system_vmstop_request
There patch protects vmstop_requested with a lock and introduces
qemu_system_vmstop_request_prepare.

Together with the new call to qemu_vmstop_requested in vm_start,
qemu_system_vmstop_request_prepare avoids a race where the VM could remain
stopped even though the iostatus of a block device has already been set
(for example).

qemu_system_vmstop_request_prepare however also lets the caller thread
delay observation of the state change until it has itself communicated
that change to the user. This delay avoids any possibility of a wrong
reordering of the BLOCK_IO_ERROR event and the subsequent STOP event.

Adds support to compile QEMU with multiple tracing backends at the same time.

For example, you can compile QEMU with:

  $ ./configure --enable-trace-backends=ftrace,dtrace

Where 'ftrace' can be handy for having an in-flight record of events, and 'dtrace' can be later used to extract more information from the system.

This patch allows having both available without recompiling QEMU.

Kirill Batuzov 02ce232c50 vl.c: remove init_clocks call from main
Clocks are initialized in qemu_init_main_loop. They are not needed before it.
Initializing them twice is not only unnecessary but is harmful: it results in

QEMU use different sets of timers.

To avoid it remove init_clocks call from main and add an assertion to
qemu_clock_init that corresponding clock has not been initialized yet.

Stefan Hajnoczi ae2990c259 osdep: initialize glib threads in all QEMU tools
glib versions prior to 2.31.0 require an explicit g_thread_init() call
to enable multi-threading.

Failure to initialize threading causes glib to take single-threaded code
paths without synchronization. For example, the g_slice allocator will
crash due to race conditions.

Fix this for all QEMU tool programs (qemu-nbd, qemu-io, qemu-img) by
moving the g_thread_init() call from vl.c:main() into a new
osdep.c:thread_init() constructor function.

thread_init() has __attribute__((constructor)) and is automatically
invoked by the runtime during startup.

We can now drop the "simple" trace backend's g_thread_init() call since
thread_init() already called it.

Note that we must keep coroutine-gthread.c's g_thread_init() call which
is located in a constructor function. There is no guarantee for
constructor function ordering so thread_init() may only be called later.

Alexey Kardashevskiy 30e32af746 vl.c: Extend get_boot_devices_list() to ignore suffixes
As suffixes do not make sense for sPAPR's device tree and
there is no way to filter them out on the BusState::get_fw_dev_path()
level, let's add an ability for the external caller to specify
whether to apply suffixes or not.

We could handle suffixes in SLOF (ignored for now) but this would require
serious rework in the node opening code in SLOF, which has no obvious
benefit for the currently emulated sPAPR machine.

==54082== 57 bytes in 3 blocks are definitely lost in loss record 365 of

Turns out that valgrind is right. We simply forget the memory that
g_strconcat() has allocated. Lets free it after the type_register().
We need a 2nd variable due to constness of the name part of the
type structure.

Mark Wu 7effdaa321 spapr: Fix return value of vga initialization
Before spapr_vga_init will returned false if the vga is specified by
the command '-device VGA' because vga_interface_type was evaluated to
VGA_NONE. With the change in previous patch of this series,
spapr_vga_init should return true if it's told that the vga will be
initialized in flow of the generic devices initialization.

To keep '-nodefaults' have the semantics of bare minimum, it adds a
check of 'has_defaults' in usb_enabled() to avoid that a USB controller
is added by '-nodefautls, -device VGA' implicitly.

This patch also makes two cleanups:
1. skip initialization for VGA_NONE
2. remove the useless 'break'

Some machine (like pseries) initialization code determines if it has

Mark Cave-Ayland af87bf290f sun4m: Add Sun CG3 framebuffer initialisation function
In order to allow the user to choose the framebuffer for sparc-softmmu, add
-vga tcx and -vga cg3 options to the QEMU command line. If no option is
specified, the default TCX framebuffer is used.

Since proprietary FCode ROMs use a resolution of 1152x900, slightly relax the
validation rules to allow both displays to be initiated at the higher
resolution used by these ROMs upon request (OpenBIOS FCode ROMs default to
the normal QEMU sun4m default resolution of 1024x768).

Finally move any fprintf(stderr ...) statements in the areas affected by this
patch over to the new error_report() function.

Fam Zheng 10f5bff622 util: Split out exec_dir from os_find_datadir
With this change, main() calls qemu_init_exec_dir and uses argv[0] to
init exec_dir. The saved value can be retrieved with
qemu_get_exec_dir later. It will be reused by module loading.

Markus Armbruster 84d18f065f Use error_is_set() only when necessary
error_is_set(&var) is the same as var != NULL, but it takes
whole-program analysis to figure that out. Unnecessarily hard for
optimizers, static checkers, and human readers. Dumb it down to
obvious.

Gets rid of several dozen Coverity false positives.

Note that the obvious form is already used in many places.

Michael Tokarev b33276a7a8 vl: trim includes
Over time, lots of stuff moved from vl.c into separate
files. But include statements has never been cleaned,
and they continue to carry lots of anymore-unused stuff.

Remove includes which are not relevant for vl.c anymore.
Apparently there are more includes like this, because
many are included from qemu-common.h and the like, or,
for example, I don't see were we use win32-specific
stuff in vl.c (so that maybe #include <windows.h> might
be removed too).

Paolo Bonzini f31c41ff5e block: Handle "rechs" and "large" translation options
Sure, CHS translation is an obscure topic, and legacy options for
hard-disk geometries are obscure as well. But since QEMU does nothing
with it except telling the BIOS, and since there "large" and "rechs"
are listed in the enums, parsing them seems to be the bare minimum.

Igor Mammedov 269e09f3fc add optional 2nd stage initialization to -object/object-add commands
Introduces USER_CREATABLE interface that must be implemented by
objects which are designed to created with -object CLI option or
object-add QMP command.

Interface provides an ability to do an optional second stage
initialization of the object created with -object/object-add
commands. By providing complete() callback, which is called
after the object properties were set.

It allows to:
 * prevents misusing of -object/object-add by filtering out
objects that are not designed for it.
 * generalize second stage backend initialization instead of
adding custom APIs to perform it
 * early error detection of backend initialization at -object/
object-add time rather than through a proxy DEVICE object
   that tries to use backend.

Igor Mammedov 90e9cf28e5 vl.c: -object: don't ignore duplicate 'id'
object_property_add_child() may fail if 'id' matches
an already existing object. Which means an incorrect
command line.
So instead of silently ignoring error, report it and

Michael Mueller 8a745f2a92 tracing: start trace processing thread in final child process
When running with trace backend e.g. "simple" the writer thread needs to be
implemented in the same process context as the trace points that will be
processed. Under libvirtd control, qemu gets first started in daemonized
mode to privide its capabilities. Creating the writer thread in the initial
process context then leads to a dead lock because the thread gets termined
together with the initial parent. (-daemonize)
