Marek Marczykowski-Górecki 3856734d80 hw/xen/xen_pt: fix uninitialized variable
xen_pt_config_reg_init() reads only that many bytes as the size of the
register that is being initialized. It uses
xen_host_pci_get_{byte,word,long} and casts its last argument to
expected pointer type. This means for smaller registers higher bits of
'val' are not initialized. Then, the function fails if any of those
higher bits are set.

Fix this by initializing 'val' with zero.

Chuck Zmudzinski 4f67543bb8 xen/pt: reserve PCI slot 2 for Intel igd-passthru
Intel specifies that the Intel IGD must occupy slot 2 on the PCI bus,
as noted in docs/igd-assign.txt in the Qemu source code.

Currently, when the xl toolstack is used to configure a Xen HVM guest with
Intel IGD passthrough to the guest with the Qemu upstream device model,
a Qemu emulated PCI device will occupy slot 2 and the Intel IGD will occupy
a different slot. This problem often prevents the guest from booting.

The only available workarounds are not good: Configure Xen HVM guests to
use the old and no longer maintained Qemu traditional device model
available from xenbits.xen.org which does reserve slot 2 for the Intel
IGD or use the "pc" machine type instead of the "xenfv" machine type and
add the xen platform device at slot 3 using a command line option
instead of patching qemu to fix the "xenfv" machine type directly. The
second workaround causes some degredation in startup performance such as
a longer boot time and reduced resolution of the grub menu that is
displayed on the monitor. This patch avoids that reduced startup
performance when using the Qemu upstream device model for Xen HVM guests
configured with the igd-passthru=on option.

To implement this feature in the Qemu upstream device model for Xen HVM
guests, introduce the following new functions, types, and macros:

* XEN_PT_DEVICE_CLASS declaration, based on the existing TYPE_XEN_PT_DEVICE
* XEN_PT_DEVICE_GET_CLASS macro helper function for XEN_PT_DEVICE_CLASS
* typedef XenPTQdevRealize function pointer
* XEN_PCI_IGD_SLOT_MASK, the value of slot_reserved_mask to reserve slot 2
* xen_igd_reserve_slot and xen_igd_clear_slot functions

  XEN_PCI_IGD_FN - use them to compute the value of XEN_PCI_IGD_SLOT_MASK

The new xen_igd_reserve_slot function uses the existing slot_reserved_mask
member of PCIBus to reserve PCI slot 2 for Xen HVM guests configured using
the xl toolstack with the gfx_passthru option enabled, which sets the
igd-passthru=on option to Qemu for the Xen HVM machine type.

The new xen_igd_reserve_slot function also needs to be implemented in
hw/xen/xen_pt_stub.c to prevent FTBFS during the link stage for the case
when Qemu is configured with --enable-xen and --disable-xen-pci-passthrough,
in which case it does nothing.

The new xen_igd_clear_slot function overrides qdev->realize of the parent
PCI device class to enable the Intel IGD to occupy slot 2 on the PCI bus
since slot 2 was reserved by xen_igd_reserve_slot when the PCI bus was
created in hw/i386/pc_piix.c for the case when igd-passthru=on.

Move the call to xen_host_pci_device_get, and the associated error
handling, from xen_pt_realize to the new xen_igd_clear_slot function to
initialize the device class and vendor values which enables the checks for
the Intel IGD to succeed. The verification that the host device is an
Intel IGD to be passed through is done by checking the domain, bus, slot,
and function values as well as by checking that gfx_passthru is enabled,
the device class is VGA, and the device vendor in Intel.

David Woodhouse 820c1aba51 xen: add CONFIG_XEN_BUS and CONFIG_XEN_EMU options for Xen emulation
The XEN_EMU option will cover core Xen support in target/, which exists
only for x86 with KVM today but could theoretically also be implemented
on Arm/Aarch64 and with TCG or other accelerators (if anyone wants to
run the gauntlet of struct layout compatibility, errno mapping, and the
rest of that fui).

It will also cover the support for architecture-independent grant table
and event channel support which will be added in hw/i386/kvm/ (on the
basis that the non-KVM support is very theoretical and making it not use
KVM directly seems like gratuitous overengineering at this point).

The XEN_BUS option is for the xenfv platform support, which will now be
used both by XEN_EMU and by real Xen.

The XEN option remains dependent on the Xen runtime libraries, and covers
support for real Xen. Some code which currently resides under CONFIG_XEN
will be moving to CONFIG_XEN_BUS over time as the direct dependencies on
Xen runtime libraries are eliminated. The Xen PCI platform device will
also reside under CONFIG_XEN_BUS.

Markus Armbruster 674b0a5784 include/hw/pci: Break inclusion loop pci_bridge.h and cxl.h
hw/pci/pci_bridge.h and hw/cxl/cxl.h include each other.

Fortunately, breaking the loop is merely a matter of deleting
unnecessary includes from headers, and adding them back in places
where they are now missing.

Chuck Zmudzinski c0e86b7624 xen/pass-through: don't create needless register group
Currently we are creating a register group for the Intel IGD OpRegion
for every device we pass through, but the XEN_PCI_INTEL_OPREGION
register group is only valid for an Intel IGD. Add a check to make
sure the device is an Intel IGD and a check that the administrator has
enabled gfx_passthru in the xl domain configuration. Require both checks
to be true before creating the register group. Use the existing
is_igd_vga_passthrough() function to check for a graphics device from
any vendor and that the administrator enabled gfx_passthru in the xl
domain configuration, but further require that the vendor be Intel,
because only Intel IGD devices have an Intel OpRegion. These are the
same checks hvmloader and libxl do to determine if the Intel OpRegion
needs to be mapped into the guest's memory. Also, move the comment
about trapping 0xfc for the Intel OpRegion where it belongs after
applying this patch.

Chuck Zmudzinski be9c61da9f xen/pass-through: merge emulated bits correctly
In xen_pt_config_reg_init(), there is an error in the merging of the
emulated data with the host value. With the current Qemu, instead of
merging the emulated bits with the host bits as defined by emu_mask,
the emulated bits are merged with the host bits as defined by the
inverse of emu_mask. In some cases, depending on the data in the
registers on the host, the way the registers are setup, and the
initial values of the emulated bits, the end result will be that
the register is initialized with the wrong value.

To correct this error, use the XEN_PT_MERGE_VALUE macro to help ensure
the merge is done correctly.

This correction is needed to resolve Qemu project issue #1061, which
describes the failure of Xen HVM Linux guests to boot in certain
configurations with passed through PCI devices, that is, when this error
disables instead of enables the PCI_STATUS_CAP_LIST bit of the
PCI_STATUS register of a passed through PCI device, which in turn
disables the MSI-X capability of the device in Linux guests with the end
result being that the Linux guest never completes the boot process.

Paolo Bonzini 215b00a542 meson: remove CONFIG_XEN_PCI_PASSTHROUGH from config-target.h
CONFIG_XEN_PCI_PASSTHROUGH is just a global configuration option;
it is never used in the source files, so there is no need to put
CONFIG_XEN_PCI_PASSTHROUGH in config-target.h or even in config-host.h.

This inaccuracy was copied over from the configure script in commit
8a19980e3f ("configure: move accelerator logic to meson", 2020-10-03).

Stefan Hajnoczi 826cc32423 aio-posix: split poll check from ready handler
Adaptive polling measures the execution time of the polling check plus
handlers called when a polled event becomes ready. Handlers can take a
significant amount of time, making it look like polling was running for
a long time when in fact the event handler was running for a long time.

For example, on Linux the io_submit(2) syscall invoked when a virtio-blk
device's virtqueue becomes ready can take 10s of microseconds. This
can exceed the default polling interval (32 microseconds) and cause
adaptive polling to stop polling.

By excluding the handler's execution time from the polling check we make
the adaptive polling calculation more accurate. As a result, the event
loop now stays in polling mode where previously it would have fallen
back to file descriptor monitoring.

The following data was collected with virtio-blk num-queues=2

Notice that ppoll(2) and eventfd read(2) syscalls are eliminated because
the IOThread stays in polling mode instead of falling back to file
descriptor monitoring.

As usual, polling is not implemented on Windows so this patch ignores
the new io_poll_read() callback in aio-win32.c.

Damien Hedde 4a1d937796 softmmu/qdev-monitor: add error handling in qdev_set_id
qdev_set_id() is mostly used when the user adds a device (using
-device cli option or device_add qmp command). This commit adds
an error parameter to handle the case where the given id is
already taken.

Also document the function and add a return value in order to
be able to capture success/failure: the function now returns the
id in case of success, or NULL in case of failure.

The commit modifies the 2 calling places (qdev-monitor and
xen-legacy-backend) to add the error object parameter.

Note that the id is, right now, guaranteed to be unique because
all ids came from the "device" QemuOptsList where the id is used
as key. This addition is a preparation for a future commit which
will relax the uniqueness.

Paolo Bonzini 08b1df8ff4 pci: add romsize property
This property can be useful for distros to set up known-good ROM sizes for
migration purposes.  The VM will fail to start if the ROM is too large,
and migration compatibility will not be broken if the ROM is too small.

Note that even though romsize is a uint32_t, it has to be between 1
(because empty ROM files are not accepted, and romsize must be greater
than the file) and 2^31 (because values above are not powers of two and
are rejected).

Paul Durrant c4583c8c39 xen-bus: reduce scope of backend watch
Currently a single watch on /local/domain/X/backend is registered by each
QEMU process running in service domain X (where X is usually 0). The purpose
of this watch is to ensure that QEMU is notified when the Xen toolstack
creates a new device backend area.
Such a backend area is specific to a single frontend area created for a
specific guest domain and, since each QEMU process is also created to service
a specfic guest domain, it is unnecessary and inefficient to notify all QEMU
processes.
Only the QEMU process associated with the same guest domain need
receive the notification. This patch re-factors the watch registration code
such that notifications are targetted appropriately.

Paolo Bonzini 243af0225a trace: switch position of headers to what Meson requires
Meson doesn't enjoy the same flexibility we have with Make in choosing
the include path.  In particular the tracing headers are using
$(build_root)/$(<D).

In order to keep the include directives unchanged,
the simplest solution is to generate headers with patterns like
"trace/trace-audio.h" and place forwarding headers in the source tree
such that for example "audio/trace.h" includes "trace/trace-audio.h".

This patch is too ugly to be applied to the Makefiles now.  It's only
a way to separate the changes to the tracing header files from the
Meson rewrite of the tracing logic.

David CARLIER 2a4b472c3c osdep.h: Always include <sys/signal.h> if it exists
Regularize our handling of <sys/signal.h>: currently we include it in
osdep.h, but only for OpenBSD, and we include it without an ifdef
guard in a couple of C files.  This causes problems for Haiku, which
doesn't have that header.

Instead, check in configure whether sys/signal.h exists, and if it
does then always include it from osdep.h.

If we want to check error after errp-function call, we need to
introduce local_err and then propagate it to errp. Instead, use
the ERRP_GUARD() macro, benefits are:
1. No need of explicit error_propagate call
2. No need of explicit local_err variable: use errp directly
3. ERRP_GUARD() leaves errp as is if it's not NULL or
   &error_fatal, this means that we don't break error_abort
   (we'll abort on error_set, not on error_propagate)

If we want to add some info to errp (by error_prepend() or
error_append_hint()), we must use the ERRP_GUARD() macro.
Otherwise, this info will not be added when errp == &error_fatal
(the program will exit prior to the error_append_hint() or
error_prepend() call).  No such cases are being fixed here.

xen-sysdev is a TYPE_SYS_BUS_DEVICE.  bus_type should not be changed so
that it can plug into the System bus.  Otherwise this assert triggers:
qemu-system-i386: hw/core/qdev.c:102: qdev_set_parent_bus: Assertion
`dc->bus_type && object_dynamic_cast(OBJECT(bus), dc->bus_type)'
failed.

TYPE_XENBACKEND attaches to TYPE_XENSYSBUS, so its class_init needs to
be set accordingly to attach the qdev.  Otherwise the following assert
triggers:
qemu-system-i386: hw/core/qdev.c:102: qdev_set_parent_bus: Assertion
`dc->bus_type && object_dynamic_cast(OBJECT(bus), dc->bus_type)'
failed.

TYPE_XENBACKEND is not a subclass of XEN_XENSYSDEV, so it's parent

Markus Armbruster 99ba777e53 qdev: Convert uses of qdev_set_parent_bus() with Coccinelle
In addition to the qdev_create() patterns converted so far, we have a
qdev_set_parent_bus() pattern.  Mostly when we embed a device in a
parent device rather than allocating it on the heap.

This pattern also puts devices in the dangerous "no QOM parent, but
plugged into bus" state I explained in recent commit "qdev: New
qdev_new(), qdev_realize(), etc."

Apply same solution: convert to qdev_realize().  Coccinelle script:

Anthony PERARD acd0c9416d xen: fix build without pci passthrough
Xen PCI passthrough support may not be available and thus the global
variable "has_igd_gfx_passthru" might be compiled out. Common code
should not access it in that case.

Unfortunately, we can't use CONFIG_XEN_PCI_PASSTHROUGH directly in
xen-common.c so this patch instead move access to the
has_igd_gfx_passthru variable via function and those functions are
also implemented as stubs. The stubs will be used when QEMU is built
without passthrough support.

Now, when one will want to enable igd-passthru via the -machine
property, they will get an error message if QEMU is built without
passthrough support.

Philippe Mathieu-Daudé 8e5c952b37 hw: Remove unnecessary DEVICE() cast
The DEVICE() macro is defined as:

  #define DEVICE(obj) OBJECT_CHECK(DeviceState, (obj), TYPE_DEVICE)

which expands to:

  ((DeviceState *)object_dynamic_cast_assert((Object *)(obj), (name),
                                             __FILE__, __LINE__,
                                             __func__))

This assertion can only fail when @obj points to something other
than its stated type, i.e. when we're in undefined behavior country.

Remove the unnecessary DEVICE() casts when we already know the
pointer is of DeviceState type.

Patch created mechanically using spatch with this script:
