Eric Auger 8b4eb09e32 virtio-iommu-pci: Add virtio iommu pci support
This patch adds virtio-iommu-pci, which is the pci proxy for
the virtio-iommu device.

Currently non DT integration is not yet supported by the kernel.
So the machine must implement a hotplug handler for the
virtio-iommu-pci device that creates the device tree iommu-map
bindings as documented in kernel documentation:

Julia Suvorova cce8944cc9 qdev-monitor: Forbid repeated device_del
Device unplug can be done asynchronously. Thus, sending the second
device_del before the previous unplug is complete may lead to
unexpected results. On PCIe devices, this cancels the hot-unplug
process.

Vladimir Sementsov-Ogievskiy 340773260b qdev-monitor: make Error **errp const where it is appropriate
Mostly, Error ** is for returning error from the function, so the
callee sets it. However qbus_list_bus and qbus_list_dev get already
filled errp parameter. They don't change the pointer itself, only
change the internal state of referenced Error object. So we can make
it Error *const * errp, to stress the behavior. It will also help
coccinelle script (in future) to distinguish such cases from common
errp usage.

While there, rename the functions to
qbus_error_append_bus_list_hint(), qbus_error_append_dev_list_hint().

Jens Freimann a1190ab628 migration: allow unplug during migration for failover devices
In "b06424de62 migration: Disable hotplug/unplug during migration" we
added a check to disable unplug for all devices until we have figured
out what works. For failover primary devices qdev_unplug() is called
from the migration handler, i.e. during migration.

This patch adds a flag to DeviceState which is set to false for all
devices and makes an exception for PCI devices that are also
primary devices in a failover pair.

Jens Freimann f3a8505656 qdev/qbus: add hidden device support
This adds support for hiding a device to the qbus and qdev APIs.  The
first user of this will be the virtio-net failover feature but the API
introduced with this patch could be used to implement other features as
well, for example hiding pci devices when a pci bus is powered off.

qdev_device_add() is modified to check for a failover_pair_id
argument in the option string. A DeviceListener callback
should_be_hidden() is added. It can be used by a standby device to
inform qdev that this device should not be added now. The standby device
handler can store the device options to plug the device in at a later
point in time.

One reason for hiding the device is that we don't want to expose both
devices to the guest kernel until the respective virtio feature bit
VIRTIO_NET_F_STANDBY was negotiated and we know that the devices will be
handled correctly by the guest.

An example where the primary device is a vfio-pci device and the standby
device is a virtio-net device:

A device is hidden when it has an "failover_pair_id" option, e.g.

Peter Xu d2321d31ff qdev/machine: Introduce hotplug_allowed hook
Introduce this new per-machine hook to give any machine class a chance
to do a sanity check on the to-be-hotplugged device as a sanity test.
This will be used for x86 to try to detect some illegal configuration
of devices, e.g., possible conflictions between vfio-pci and x86
vIOMMU.

Markus Armbruster d94bd0927e qdev: Collect HMP handlers command handlers in qdev-monitor.c
Move hmp_device_add(), hmp_device_del() from monitor/hmp-cmds.c to
qdev-monitor.c, where they are covered by MAINTAINERS section "QOM",
just like qapi/qdev.json.  hmp_info_qtree() and hmp_info_qdm() are
already there.

Markus Armbruster d5938f29fe Clean up inclusion of sysemu/sysemu.h
In my "build everything" tree, changing sysemu/sysemu.h triggers a
recompile of some 5400 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and
objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h).

Almost a third of its inclusions are actually superfluous.  Delete
them.  Downgrade two more to qapi/qapi-types-run-state.h, and move one
from char/serial.h to char/serial.c.

hw/semihosting/config.c, monitor/monitor.c, qdev-monitor.c, and
stubs/semihost.c define variables declared in sysemu/sysemu.h without
including it.  The compiler is cool with that, but include it anyway.

This doesn't reduce actual use much, as it's still included into
widely included headers.  The next commit will tackle that.

Markus Armbruster a27bd6c779 Include hw/qdev-properties.h less
In my "build everything" tree, changing hw/qdev-properties.h triggers
a recompile of some 2700 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and
objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h).

Many places including hw/qdev-properties.h (directly or via hw/qdev.h)
actually need only hw/qdev-core.h.  Include hw/qdev-core.h there
instead.

hw/qdev.h is actually pointless: all it does is include hw/qdev-core.h
and hw/qdev-properties.h, which in turn includes hw/qdev-core.h.
Replace the remaining uses of hw/qdev.h by hw/qdev-properties.h.

While there, delete a few superfluous inclusions of hw/qdev-core.h.

Touching hw/qdev-properties.h now recompiles some 1200 objects.

Markus Armbruster 8acb2a758b monitor: Simplify how -device/device_add print help
Commit a95db58f21 added monitor_vfprintf() as an error_printf()
generalized from stderr to arbitrary streams, then used it wrapped in
helper out_printf() to print -device/device_add help to stdout.  Use
qemu_printf() instead, and delete monitor_vfprintf() and out_printf().

David Hildenbrand 07578b0ad6 qdev: Let the hotplug_handler_unplug() caller delete the device
When unplugging a device, at one point the device will be destroyed
via object_unparent(). This will, one the one hand, unrealize the
removed device hierarchy, and on the other hand, destroy/free the
device hierarchy.

When chaining hotplug handlers, we want to overwrite a bus hotplug
handler by the machine hotplug handler, to be able to perform
some part of the plug/unplug and to forward the calls to the bus hotplug
handler.

For now, the bus hotplug handler would trigger an object_unparent(), not
allowing us to perform some unplug action on a device after we forwarded
the call to the bus hotplug handler. The device would be gone at that
point.

So move the object_unparent() to the original caller of the unplug. For
now, keep the unrealize() at the original places of the
object_unparent(). For implicitly chained hotplug handlers (e.g. pc
code calling acpi hotplug handlers), the object_unparent() has to be
done by the outermost caller. So when calling hotplug_handler_unplug()
from inside an unplug handler, nothing is to be done.

hotplug_handler_unplug(dev) -> calls machine_unplug_handler()
    machine_unplug_handler(dev) {

        bus_unplug_handler(dev) -> calls unrealize(dev)

In the long run, every unplug action should be factored out of the
unrealize() function into the unplug handler (especially for PCI). Then
we can get rid of the additonal unrealize() calls and object_unparent()
will properly unrealize the device hierarchy after the device has been
unplugged.

hotplug_handler_unplug(dev) -> calls machine_unplug_handler()

The original approach was suggested by Igor Mammedov for the PCI
part, but I extended it to all hotplug handlers. I consider this one
step into the right direction.

To summarize:
- object_unparent() on synchronous unplugs is done by common code

- object_unparent() on asynchronous unplugs ("unplug requests") has to
  be done manually

Tony Krowiak 12b2e9f30f qdev/core: fix qbus_is_full()
The qbus_is_full(BusState *bus) function (qdev_monitor.c) compares the max_index
value of the BusState structure with the max_dev value of the BusClass structure
to determine whether the maximum number of children has been reached for the
bus. The problem is, the max_index field of the BusState structure does not
necessarily reflect the number of devices that have been plugged into
the bus.

Whenever a child device is plugged into the bus, the bus's max_index value is
assigned to the child device and then incremented. If the child is subsequently
unplugged, the value of the max_index does not change and no longer reflects the
number of children.

When the bus's max_index value reaches the maximum number of devices
allowed for the bus (i.e., the max_dev field in the BusClass structure),
attempts to plug another device will be rejected claiming that the bus is
full -- even if the bus is actually empty.

To resolve the problem, a new 'num_children' field is being added to the
BusState structure to keep track of the number of children plugged into the
bus. It will be incremented when a child is plugged, and decremented when a
child is unplugged.

Max Reitz 9c2762b406 qdev-monitor: Make device options help nicer
Just like in qemu_opts_print_help(), print the device name as a caption
instead of on every single line, indent all options, add angle brackets
around types, and align the descriptions after 24 characters.  Also,
separate the descriptions with " - " instead of putting them in
parentheses, because that is what we do everywhere else.  This does look
a bit funny here because basically all bits have the description
"on/off", but funny does not mean it is less readable.

Markus Armbruster 112ed241f5 qapi: Empty out qapi-schema.json
The previous commit improved compile time by including less of the
generated QAPI headers.  This is impossible for stuff defined directly
in qapi-schema.json, because that ends up in headers that that pull in
everything.

Move everything but include directives from qapi-schema.json to new
sub-module qapi/misc.json, then include just the "misc" shard where
possible.

It's possible everywhere, except:

* monitor.c needs qmp-command.h to get qmp_init_marshal()

* monitor.c, ui/vnc.c and the generated qapi-event-FOO.c need
  qapi-event.h to get enum QAPIEvent

Perhaps we'll get rid of those some other day.

Adding a type to qapi/migration.json now recompiles some 120 instead
of 2300 out of 5100 objects.

former don't actually need the latter.  Drop the include, and add it
to the places that actually need it.

While there, drop superfluous includes of both headers, and
separate #include from file comment with a blank line.

This cleanup makes the number of objects depending on qemu/option.h
drop from 4545 (out of 4743) to 284 in my "build everything" tree.

Thomas Huth 03fcbd9dc5 qdev: Check for the availability of a hotplug controller before adding a device
The qdev_unplug() function contains a g_assert(hotplug_ctrl) statement,
so QEMU crashes when the user tries to device_add + device_del a device
that does not have a corresponding hotplug controller. This could be
provoked for a couple of devices in the past (see commit 4c93950659
or 84ebd3e8c7 for example), and can currently for example also be
triggered like this:

$ s390x-softmmu/qemu-system-s390x -M none -nographic
QEMU 2.10.50 monitor - type 'help' for more information
(qemu) device_add qemu-s390x-cpu,id=x
(qemu) device_del x

So devices clearly need a hotplug controller when they should be usable
with device_add.
The code in qdev_device_add() already checks whether the bus has a proper
hotplug controller, but for devices that do not have a corresponding bus,
there is no appropriate check available yet. In that case we should check
whether the machine itself provides a suitable hotplug controller and
refuse to plug the device if none is available.

Paolo Bonzini ab37bfc7d6 pci-assign: Remove
Legacy PCI device assignment has been removed from Linux in 4.12,
and had been deprecated 2 years ago there.  We can remove it from
QEMU as well.

The ROM loading code was shared with Xen PCI passthrough, so move
it to hw/xen.

Eduardo Habkost e90f2a8c3e qdev: Replace cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet with !user_creatable
cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet was introduced by commit
efec3dd631 to replace no_user. It was
supposed to be a temporary measure.

When it was introduced, we had 54
cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet=true lines in the code.
Today (3 years later) this number has not shrunk: we now have
57 cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet=true lines. I think it
is safe to say it is not a temporary measure, and we won't see
the flag go away soon.

Instead of a long field name that misleads people to believe it
is temporary, replace it a shorter and less misleading field:
user_creatable.

Ashijeet Acharya 7562f90707 migrate: Introduce a 'dc->vmsd' check to avoid segfault for --only-migratable
Commit a3a3d8c7 introduced a segfault bug while checking for
'dc->vmsd->unmigratable' which caused QEMU to crash when trying to add
devices which do no set their 'dc->vmsd' yet while initialization.
Place a 'dc->vmsd' check prior to it so that we do not segfault for
such devices.

NOTE: This doesn't compromise the functioning of --only-migratable
option as all the unmigratable devices do set their 'dc->vmsd'.

Introduce a new function check_migratable() and move the
only_migratable check inside it, also use stubs to avoid user-mode qemu
build failures.

Ashijeet Acharya a3a3d8c738 migration: Allow "device add" options to only add migratable devices
Introduce checks for the unmigratable flag in the VMStateDescription
structs of respective devices when user attempts to add them. If the
"--only-migratable" was specified, all unmigratable devices will
rightly fail to add. This feature is made compatible for both "-device"
and "-usbdevice" command line options and covers their hmp and qmp
counterparts as well.

Sascha Silbe 588c36cac7 qdev-monitor: add missing aliases for virtio device classes
virtio-{blk,balloon,net,serial} are aliases for their actual,
architecture-dependent implementations (*-ccw on s390x, *-pci on other
architectures supporting virtio). This makes it a lot easier to craft
qemu invocations that work on all supported architectures. Complete
the set to cover all existing non-abstract virtio device classes.

For virtio-balloon, only the CCW implementation was missing.

doesn't exist, the error message looks like qemu misunderstood the

Markus Armbruster 7828867198 error: Use error_report_err() instead of ad hoc prints
Unlike ad hoc prints, error_report_err() uses the error whole instead
of just its message obtained with error_get_pretty().  This avoids
suppressing its hint (see commit 50b7b00).  Example:

    $ bld/ivshmem-server -l 42@
    Parameter 'shm_size' expects a size
    You may use k, M, G or T suffixes for kilobytes, megabytes, gigabytes and terabytes.

The last line is new with this patch.

While there, drop a "cannot parse shm size: " message prefix; it's
redundant, because the error message proper is always of the form
"Parameter 'shm_size' expects ...".

Markus Armbruster 543202c0dd error: Don't append a newline when printing the error hint
Since commit 50b7b00, we have error_append_hint() to conveniently
accumulate Error member @hint.  error_report_err() prints it with a
newline appended.  Consequently, users of error_append_hint() need to
know whether theirs is the final line of the hint to decide whether it
needs a newline.  Not a nice interface.

Change error_report_err() to print just the hint, and the (still few)
users of error_append_hint() to add the required newline.

Markus Armbruster 33fe968330 Revert "qdev: Use qdev_get_device_class() for -device <type>,help"
This reverts commit 31bed5509d.

The reverted commit changed qdev_device_help() to reject abstract
devices and devices that have cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet
set, to fix crash bugs like -device x86_64-cpu,help.

Rejecting abstract devices makes sense: they're purely internal, and
the implementation of the help feature can't cope with them.

Rejecting non-pluggable devices makes less sense: even though you
can't use them with -device, the help may still be useful elsewhere,
for instance with -global.  This is a regression: -device FOO,help
used to help even for FOO that aren't pluggable.

The previous two commits fixed the crash bug at a lower layer, so
reverting this one is now safe.  Fixes the -device FOO,help
regression, except for the broken devices marked
cannot_even_create_with_object_new_yet.  For those, the error message
is improved.

Example of a device where the regression is fixed:

Daniel P. Berrange 6287d827d4 monitor: allow device_del to accept QOM paths
Currently device_del requires that the client provide the
device short ID. device_add allows devices to be created
without giving an ID, at which point there is no way to
delete them with device_del. The QOM object path, however,
provides an alternative way to identify the devices.

Allowing device_del to accept an object path ensures all
devices are deletable regardless of whether they have an
ID.
