ATA-ACS-3 says "If the two byte range length is zero, then the LBA
Range Entry shall be discarded as padding." iovecs are used as if
they are linearized, so it is incorrect to discard the rest of
this iovec.

Since 39bffca203 (qdev: register all
types natively through QEMU Object Model), TypeInfo as used in
the common, non-iterative pattern is no longer amended with information
and should therefore be const.
Fix the documented QOM examples:
sed -i 's/static TypeInfo/static const TypeInfo/g' include/qom/object.h
Since frequently the wrong examples are being copied by contributors of
new devices, fix all types in the tree:
sed -i 's/^static TypeInfo/static const TypeInfo/g' */*.c

This also avoids to piggy-back these changes onto real functional
changes or other refactorings.

Tray statuses should be also reseted. Some guests may lock the tray
and after reset before any kernel is loaded the tray should be unlocked.
Also if you reset the real computer the tray is closed. We should
do the same in qemu.

If you have a guest with a media in the optical drive and you change
it, the windows guest cannot properly recognize this media change.
Windows needs to detect sense "NOT_READY with ASC_MEDIUM_NOT_PRESENT"
before we send sense "UNIT_ATTENTION with ASC_MEDIUM_MAY_HAVE_CHANGED".

When failing a request because the length of the regions described by
the PRDT was too short for the requested number of sectors, the IDE
emulation forgot to update the status register, so that the device would
keep the BSY flag set indefinitely.

target_phys_addr_t is unwieldly, violates the C standard (_t suffixes are
reserved) and its purpose doesn't match the name (most target_phys_addr_t
addresses are not target specific). Replace it with a finger-friendly,
standards conformant hwaddr.
Outstanding patchsets can be fixed up with the command
git rebase -i --exec 'find -name "*.[ch]"
| xargs s/target_phys_addr_t/hwaddr/g' origin

Use g_strdup rather than strdup, because the sole caller
(qdev_get_fw_dev_path_helper) assumes it gets non-NULL, and dereferences
it. Besides, in that caller, the allocated buffer is already freed with
g_free, so it's better to allocate with a matching g_strdup.
In one case, (scsi-bus.c) it was trivial, so I replaced an snprintf+
g_strdup combination with an equivalent g_strdup_printf use.

Move the common part of IDE/SCSI/virtio error handling to the block
layer. The new function bdrv_error_action subsumes all three of
bdrv_emit_qmp_error_event, vm_stop, bdrv_iostatus_set_err.
The same scheme will be used for errors in block jobs.

We want to remove knowledge of BLOCK_ERR_STOP_ENOSPC from drivers;
drivers should only be told whether to stop/report/ignore the error.
On the other hand, we want to keep using the nicer BlockErrorAction
name in the drivers. So rename the enums, while leaving aside the
names of the enum values for now.

While testing q35, I found that windows 7 (specifically, windows 7 ultimate
with sp1 x64), wouldn't install because it can't find the cdrom or disk drive.
The failure message is: 'A required cd/dvd device driver is missing. If you
have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now.'
This can also be reproduced on piix by adding an ahci controller, and
observing that windows 7 does not see any devices behind it.
The problem is that when windows issues a HBA reset, qemu does not reset the
individual ports' PxCMD register. Windows 7 then reads back the PxCMD register
and presumably assumes that the ahci controller has already been initialized.
Windows then never sets up the PxIE register to enable interrupts, and thus it
never gets irqs back when it sends ata device inquiry commands.
This change brings qemu into ahci 1.3 specification compliance.
Section 10.4.3 HBA Reset:
"
When GHC.HR is set to '1', GHC.AE, GHC.IE, the IS register, and all port
register fields (except PxFB/PxFBU/PxCLB/PxCLBU) that are not HwInit in the
HBA's register memory space are reset.
"
I've also re-tested Fedora 16 and 17 to verify that they continue to work with
this change.

The upper limit of 30 was never reached because both for loops terminated
when 'smart_attributes' reached end of list, so there was no real buffer
overflow.
Nevertheless, changing the code not only fixes the error report, but also

The START STOP UNIT command will only eject/load media if
power condition is zero.
If power condition is !0 then LOEJ and START will be ignored.
From MMC (sbc contains similar wordings too)
The Power Conditions field requests the block device to be placed
in the power condition defined in
Table 558. If this field has a value other than 0h then the Start
and LoEj bits shall be ignored.

I noticed that in hw/ide/ahci:ahci_dma_rw_buf() we do not free the sglist. Thus,
I've added a call to qemu_sglist_destroy() to fix this memory leak.
In addition, I've adeed a call in qemu_sglist_destroy() to 0 all of the sglist
fields, in case there is some other codepath that tries to free the sglist.

While testing q35, which has its cdrom attached to the ahci controller, I found
that the Fedora 17 install would panic on boot. The panic occurs while
squashfs is trying to read from the cdrom. The errors are:

I was also able to produce corrupt data reads using an installed piix based
qemu machine, using 'dd'. I found that the corruptions were only occuring when
then read size was greater than 128k. For example, the following command
results in corrupted reads:
dd if=/dev/sr0 of=/tmp/blah bs=256k iflag=direct
The > 128k size reads exercise a different code path than 128k and below. In
ide_atapi_cmd_read_dma_cb() s->io_buffer_size is capped at 128k. Thus,
ide_atapi_cmd_read_dma_cb() is called a second time when the read is > 128k.
However, ahci_dma_rw_buf() restart the read from offset 0, instead of at 128k.
Thus, resulting in a corrupted read.
To fix this, I've introduced 'io_buffer_offset' field in IDEState to keep
track of the offset. I've also modified ahci_populate_sglist() to take a new
3rd offset argument, so that the sglist is property initialized.
I've tested this patch using 'dd' testing, and Fedora 17 now correctly boots
and installs on q35 with the cdrom ahci controller.

doesn't back a hard disk device. Before, they were first checked
against a hard disk's limits, then ignored.

All current users (IDE, SCSI and virtio-blk) happen to share this 20
characters limit. Still, it should be left to device models. They
already enforce their limits. They have to, as the DriveInfo limit
only affects legacy -drive serial=..., not the qdev properties.
usb-storage, which doesn't limit serial number length, also uses
DriveInfo for -usbdevice. But that doesn't provide access to
DriveInfo serial.

New limits straight from ATA4 6.2 Register delivered data transfer
command sector addressing.
I figure the old sector limit 63 was blindly copied from the BIOS
int 13 limit. Doesn't apply to the hardware. No idea where the old
cylinder limit comes from.

This isn't quite orthodox. CHS translation is firmware configuration,
communicated via the RTC's CMOS RAM, not a property of the disk. But
it's best to treat it just like geometry anyway.
Maintain backward compatibility exactly like for geometry: fall back
to DriveInfo's translation, set with -drive trans=...
Bonus: info qtree now shows the translation. Except when it shows
"auto": that's resolved by pc_cmos_init_late(). To be addressed
shortly.

Geometry needs to be qdev properties, because it belongs to the
disk's guest part.
Maintain backward compatibility exactly like for serial: fall back to
DriveInfo's geometry, set with -drive cyls=...
Do this only for ide-hd. ide-drive is legacy. ide-cd doesn't have a
geometry.
Bonus: info qtree now shows the geometry.

hd_geometry_guess() picks geometry and translation. Callers can get
the geometry directly, via parameters, but for translation they need
to go through the block layer.
Add a parameter for translation, so it can optionally be gotten just
like geometry. In preparation of purging translation from the block
layer, which will happen later in this series.

Commit f3d54fc4 factored it out of hw/ide.c for reuse. Sensible,
except it was put into block.c. Device-specific functionality should
be kept in device code, not the block layer. Move it to
hw/hd-geometry.c, and make stylistic changes required to keep
checkpatch.pl happy.

The AHCI device can provide both PCI and SysBus AHCI device
emulations. For this reason, it wasn't previously converted to use
the pci_dma_*() helper functions. Now that we have universal DMA
helper functions, this converts AHCI to use them.
The DMAContext is obtained from pci_dma_context() in the PCI case and
set to NULL in the SysBus case (i.e. we assume for now that a SysBus
AHCI has no IOMMU translation).

dma-helpers.c contains a number of helper functions for doing
scatter/gather DMA, and various block device related DMA. Currently,
these directly access guest memory using cpu_physical_memory_*(),
assuming no IOMMU translation.
This patch updates this code to use the new universal DMA helper
functions. qemu_sglist_init() now takes a DMAContext * to describe
the DMA address space in which the scatter/gather will take place.
We minimally update the callers qemu_sglist_init() to pass NULL
(i.e. no translation, same as current behaviour). Some of those
callers should pass something else in some cases to allow proper IOMMU
translation in future, but that will be fixed in later patches.

QEMU exposes its version to the guest's hardware and in some cases that is wrong
(e.g. Windows prints messages about driver updates when you switch
the QEMU version).
There is a new field now on the struct QEmuMachine, hw_version, which may
contain the version that the specific machine should report. If that field is
set, then that machine will report that version to the guest.

This is far less interesting than it sounds. We simply add an Object to each
BusState and then register the types appropriately. Most of the interesting
refactoring will follow in the next patches.
Since we're changing fundamental type names (BusInfo -> BusClass), it all needs
to convert at once. Fortunately, not a lot of code is affected.

In qdev, each bus in practice identified an abstract superclass, but
this was mostly hidden. In QOM, instead, these abstract classes are
explicit so we can move bus properties there.
All bus property walks are removed, and all device property walks
are changed to look along the class hierarchy instead.
We would have duplicates if class A defines some properties and its
subclass B does not define any, because class_b->props will be
left equal to class_a->props.
The solution here is to reintroduce the class_base_init TypeInfo
callback, that was present in one of the early QOM versions but
removed (on my request...) before committing.
This breaks global bus properties, an obscure feature when used
with the command-line which is actually useful and used when used by
backwards-compatible machine types. So this patch also adjusts the
global bus properties in hw/pc_piix.c to refer to the abstract class.
Globals and other properties must be modified in the same patch to
avoid complications related to initialization ordering.

There is no point in pushing this burden to the devices, they tend to
forget to call them (like intel-hda, ahci, xhci did). Instead, reset
functions are now called from pci_device_reset. They do nothing if
MSI/MSI-X is not in use.

After this patch, the libhw* directories will have a hierarchy
that mimics the source tree. This is useful because we do have
a couple of files there that are in the top source directory.

When using Windows 8 with an AHCI disk drive, it issues a blue screen.
The reason is that WIN_SECURITY_FREEZE_LOCK / CFA_WEAR_LEVEL is not
supported by our ATA implementation, but Windows expects it to be there.
Since without security stuff implemented, the lock would be a nop anyway
and CFA_WEAR_LEVEL already is treated as a nop, let's just allow the cmd
for HD drives as well. That way Windows is happy.

The IDE PIO write sector code path uses bdrv_write() and hence can make
the guest unresponsive while the I/O request is in progress. This patch
converts ide_sector_write() to use bdrv_aio_writev() by using the
BUSY_STAT bit to tell the guest that the request is in progress.

The IDE PIO interface currently uses bdrv_read() to perform reads
synchronously. Synchronous I/O in the vcpu thread is bad because it
prevents the guest from executing code - it makes the guest
unresponsive.
This patch converts IDE PIO to use bdrv_aio_readv(). We simply need to
use the BUSY_STAT status so the guest knows to wait while we are busy.
The only external user of ide_sector_read() is restart behavior on I/O
errors and it is not affected by this change. We still need to restart
I/O in the same way.
Migration is also unaffected if I understand the code correctly. We
continue to use the same transfer function and the BUSY_STAT status
should never be migrated since we flush I/O before migrating device
state.

Currently dma_bdrv_io() takes a 'to_dev' boolean parameter to
determine the direction of DMA it is emulating. We already have a
DMADirection enum designed specifically to encode DMA directions.
This patch uses it for dma_bdrv_io() as well. This involves removing
the DMADirection definition from the #ifdef it was inside, but since that
only existed to protect the definition of dma_addr_t from places where
config.h is not included, there wasn't any reason for it to be there in
the first place.

Linux guests can address disks by their unique World Wide Name number
(e.g. /dev/disk/by-id/wwn-0x5001517959123522). This patch adds support
for assigning a World Wide Name number to a virtual IDE disk.

Allow the user to override the default disk model name "QEMU HARDDISK".
Some Linux distributions use the /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_name-of-disk-
model_serial addressing scheme when refering to partitions in /etc/fstab
and elsewhere. This causes problems when starting a disk image taken from
an existing physical server under qemu, because when running under qemu
name-of-disk-model is always "QEMU HARDDISK".
This patch introduces a model=s option which in combination with the
existing serial=s option can be used to fake the disk the operating
system was previously on, allowing the OS to boot properly.

bdrv_aio_cancel() can trigger bdrv_aio_flush() which makes all aio
that is currently in flight finish. So what we do is:
port reset
detect ncq in flight
cancel ncq
delete ncq sg list
at which point we have double freed the sg list. Instead, with this
patch we do:
port reset
detect ncq in flight
cancel ncq
check if we are really still in flight
delete ncq sg list
which makes things work and gets rid of the race.

Limit them to the device_add functionality. Device aliases were a hack based
on the fact that virtio was modeled the wrong way. The mechanism for aliasing
is very limited in that only one alias can exist for any device.
We have to support it for the purposes of compatibility but we only need to
support it in device_add so restrict it to that piece of code.

This was done in a mostly automated fashion. I did it in three steps and then
rebased it into a single step which avoids repeatedly touching every file in
the tree.
The first step was a sed-based addition of the parent type to the subclass
registration functions.
The second step was another sed-based removal of subclass registration functions
while also adding virtual functions from the base class into a class_init
function as appropriate.
Finally, a python script was used to convert the DeviceInfo structures and
qdev_register_subclass functions to TypeInfo structures, class_init functions,
and type_register_static calls.
We are almost fully converted to QOM after this commit.

Right now, DeviceInfo acts as the class for qdev. In order to switch to a
proper ObjectClass derivative, we need to ween all of the callers off of
interacting directly with the info pointer.

Back when I made patches introducing dma_addr_t and various PCI DMA
wrapper functions, I made a mistake. The bmdma_addr_{read,write} functions
need to take target_phys_addr_t not dma_addr_t, since they are assigned
to MemoryRegionOps callbacks.
This patch corrects my error.

Many places in QEMU call qemu_aio_flush() to complete all pending
asynchronous I/O. Most of these places actually want to drain all block
requests but there is no block layer API to do so.
This patch introduces the bdrv_drain_all() API to wait for requests
across all BlockDriverStates to complete. As a bonus we perform checks
after qemu_aio_wait() to ensure that requests really have finished.

Mode page 2A of emulated ATAPI DVD-ROM should have page length 0x14
like SCSI CD-ROM, rather than 0x12.
Mode page length is off by 8, as it should contain the length of the
payload after the first two bytes.
MODE SENSE(6) should be thrown out of ATAPI DVD-ROM emulation. It is
not specified in the ATAPI list of MMC-2, and MMC-5 prescribes to use
MODE SENSE(10). Anyway, its implementation is wrong.

This updates the PCI IDE device emulation to use the explicit PCI DMA
wrapper to initialize its scatter/gathjer structure. This means this
driver should not need further changes when the sglist interface is

This patch adds to scsi-disk the missing mode page 0x01 for both disk
and CD-ROM drives, and mode page 0x0e for CD drives only.
A few offsets were wrong in atapi.c. Also change the 2Ah mode page to
expose DVD media read capabilities in the IDE cdrom. This lets you run
dvd+rw-mediainfo on the virtual DVD drives.

The first two bytes (after the 8-byte ATAPI header) are the mode page
number and the number of bytes after the length field itself. Make
this clear in the code.
The AUDIO_CTL page was filled with wrong values. It is not anymore in
MMC, but at least keep the values sane.

As a complement to the previous patch, move definitions for GET EVENT
STATUS NOTIFICATION from the two functions to scsi-defs.h.
The NCR_* constants are just bit values corresponding to the ENC_*
values, with no offsets even, so keep just one copy.

The definitions in ide/internal.h are duplicates, since ATAPI commands
actually come from SCSI. Use the ones in scsi-defs.h and move the
missing ones there. Two exceptions:
- MODE_PAGE_WRITE_PARMS conflicts with the "flexible disk geometry"
page in scsi-disk.c. It is unused, so pick the latter.
- GPCMD_* is left in ide/internal.h, at least for now.

Next commit will convert the query-status command to use the
RunState type as generated by the QAPI.
In order to "transparently" replace the current enum by the QAPI
one, we have to make some changes to some enum values.
As the changes are simple renames, I'll do them in one shot. The
changes are:

Implement an I/O space index-data register pair as defined by the AHCI
spec, including the corresponding SATA PCI capability and BAR.
This allows real-mode code to access the AHCI registers; real-mode
code cannot address the memory-mapped register space because it is
beyond the first megabyte.

I've found that FreeBSD AHCI driver doesn't work with AHCI hardware
emulation of QEMU 0.15.0. I believe the problem is on QEMU's side. As I
see, it clears port's Interrupt Enable register each time when reset of
any level happens. Is is reasonable for the global controller reset. It
is probably not good, but acceptable for FreeBSD driver for the port
hard reset. But it is IMO wrong for the device soft reset. None of real
hardware I know behaves that way.

Today, when notifying a VM state change with vm_state_notify(),
we pass a VMSTOP macro as the 'reason' argument. This is not ideal
because the VMSTOP macros tell why qemu stopped and not exactly
what the current VM state is.
One example to demonstrate this problem is that vm_start() calls
vm_state_notify() with reason=0, which turns out to be VMSTOP_USER.
This commit fixes that by replacing the VMSTOP macros with a proper
state type called RunState.

change fails while the tray is locked by the guest. eject -f forces
it open and removes any media. Unfortunately, the tray closes again
instantly. Since the lock remains as it is, there is no way to insert
another medium unless the guest voluntarily unlocks.
Fix by leaving the tray open after monitor eject.

MMC-5 6.40.2.6 specifies that START STOP UNIT succeeds when the drive
already has the requested state. cmd_start_stop_unit() fails when

Commit 4be9762a changed bdrv_is_inserted() to fail when the tray is
open. Unfortunately, there are two different kinds of users, with
conflicting needs.
1. Device models using bdrv_eject(), currently ide-cd and scsi-cd.
They expect bdrv_is_inserted() to reflect the tray status. Commit
4be9762a makes them happy.
2. Code that wants to know whether a BlockDriverState has media, such
as find_image_format(), bdrv_flush_all(). Commit 4be9762a makes them
unhappy. In particular, it breaks flush on VM stop for media ejected
by the guest.
Revert the change to bdrv_is_inserted(). Check the tray status in the
device models instead.
Note on IDE: Since only ATAPI devices have a tray, and they don't
accept ATA commands since the recent commit "ide: Reject ATA commands
specific to drive kinds", checking in atapi.c suffices.

into the DriveInfo's BlockDriverState to distinguish between the two.

For now, this just protects against programming errors like having the
same drive back multiple non-qdev devices, or untimely bdrv_delete().
Later commits will add other interesting uses.
While there, rename BlockDriverState member peer to dev, bdrv_attach()
to bdrv_attach_dev(), bdrv_detach() to bdrv_detach_dev(), and
bdrv_get_attached() to bdrv_get_attached_dev().

Decouple the I/O accounting from bdrv_aio_readv/writev/flush and
make the hardware models call directly into the accounting helpers.
This means:
- we do not count internal requests from image formats in addition
to guest originating I/O
- we do not double count I/O ops if the device model handles it
chunk wise
- we only account I/O once it actuall is done
- can extent I/O accounting to synchronous or coroutine I/O easily
- implement I/O latency tracking easily (see the next patch)
I've conveted the existing device model callers to the new model,
device models that are using synchronous I/O and weren't accounted
before haven't been updated yet. Also scsi hasn't been converted
to the end-to-end accounting as I want to defer that after the pending
scsi layer overhaul.

The unplug protocol is necessary to support PV drivers in the guest: the
drivers expect to be able to "unplug" emulated disks and nics before
initializing the Xen PV interfaces.
It is responsibility of the guest to make sure that the unplug is done
before the emulated devices or the PV interface start to be used.
We use pci_for_each_device to walk the PCI bus, identify the devices and
disks that we want to disable and dynamically unplug them.

- replace pci_unplug_device with qdev_unplug;
- do not import hw/ide/internal.h in xen_platform.c;

This fixes https://bugs.launchpad.net/qemu/+bug/786209:
When the DRQ_STAT bit is set, the IDE core permits both data reads
and data writes, regardless of whether the current transfer was
initiated as a read or write.
This potentially leaks uninitialized host memory into the guest,
if, before doing anything else to an IDE device, the guest begins a
write transaction (e.g. WIN_WRITE), but then *reads* from the IO
port instead of writing to it.

Clearing the error status flag was missing for restarting flushes. Now that the
error status is separate from the BM status register, we can simply set it to 0
after restarting the request. This ensures that we never forget to clear a bit.

When adding the werror=stop mode, some flags were added to s->status
which are used to determine what kind of operation should be restarted
when the VM is continued.
Unfortunately, it turns out that s->status is in fact a device register
and as such is visible to the guest (some of the abused bits are even
writable for the guest).
For migration we keep on using the old VMState field (renamed to
migration_compat_status) if the status register doesn't use any of the
previously abused bits. If it does, we use a subsection with a clean copy of
the status register.
The error status is always sent in a subsection if there is any error. It can't
use the old field because errors happen even without PCI.

BM_STATUS_INT is automatically set during ide_set_irq(), there's no reason to
set it manually in addition.
There is even one case where the interrupt status bit was set, but no IRQ was
raised. This is when the PRD table was reached but there is more data to
transfer. The correct behaviour for this case is not to set BM_STATUS_INT.

AHCI provides two ways of reading/writing data:
1) NCQ
2) ATA commands with the LBA in the command FIS
In the second code path, we didn't handle any LBAs that were bigger than
16 bits, so whenever a guest that used high LBA numbers wanted to access
data, the LBA got truncated down to 16 bits, giving the guest garbage.
This patch adds support for LBAs higher than 16 bits. I've tested that it
works just fine with SeaBIOS and Linux guests. This patch also unbreaks
the often reported grub errors people have seen with AHCI.

DriveInfo is closely tied to -drive, and like -drive, it mixes
information about host and guest part of the block device. Unlike
DriveInfo, BlockDriverState should be about the host part only.
One of the remaining guest bits there is the "type hint". -drive
option media sets it, and qdevs "ide-drive", "scsi-disk" and non-qdev
IF_XEN devices check it to pick HD vs. CD.
Communicate -drive option media via new DriveInfo member media_cd
instead.

An "ide-drive" is either a hard disk or a CD-ROM, depending on the
associated BlockDriverState's type hint. Unclean; disk vs. CD belongs
to the guest part, not the host part.
Have separate qdevs "ide-hd" and "ide-cd" to model disk vs. CD in
the guest part.
Keep ide-drive for backward compatibility.
"ide-disk" would perhaps be a nicer name than "ide-hd", but there's
already "scsi-disk", which is like "ide-drive", and will be likewise
split in the next commit. {ide,scsi}-{hd,cd} is the best consistent
set of names I could find within the backward compatibility
straightjacket.

If ahci_dma_set_inactive is called a while there is still a pending BH
from a previous run, we will crash on the second run of
ahci_check_cmd_bh as it overwrites AHCIDevice::check_bh. Avoid this
broken and redundant duplicate registration.

These printfs aren't really debug messages, but clearly indicate a bug if they
ever become effective. Noone uses DEBUG_IDE, let's re-enable the check
unconditionally and make it an assertion instead of printfs in the device
emulation.

Some commands are supposed to report a Not Ready Condition (i.e. they require
a medium to be present in order to execute successfully). Instead of
duplicating the check in each command implementation, let's add a flag and
check it before calling the command.
This patch only converts existing checks, it does not introduce new checks for
any of the other commands that can/should report a Not Ready Condition.

MMC-5 Table F.1 lists errors that can be thrown for the TEST_UNIT_READY
command. Going from medium not ready to medium ready states is
communicated by throwing an error.
This adds the missing 'tray opened' event that we fail to report to
guests. After doing this, older Linux guests properly revalidate a disc
on the change command. HSM violation errors, which caused Linux guests
to do a soft-reset of the link, also go away:

Implement the 'media' sub-command of the GET_EVENT_STATUS_NOTIFICATION
command. This helps us report tray open, tray closed, no media, media
present states to the guest.
Newer Linux kernels (2.6.38+) rely on this command to revalidate discs
after media change.
This patch also sends out tray open/closed status to the guest driver
when requested e.g. via the CDROM_DRIVE_STATUS ioctl (thanks Markus).
Without such notification, the guest and qemu's tray open/close status
was frequently out of sync, causing installers like Anaconda detecting
no disc instead of tray open, confusing them terribly.

a CDROM eject is requested: a) while a disc is inserted and b) while a
disc is not inserted.
Ensure we return the appropriate error for the present condition of the

This patch fixes two things:
1) CHECK POWER MODE
The error return value wasn't always zero, so it would show up as
offline. Error is now explicitly set to zero.
2) SMART
The smart values that were returned were invalid and tools like skdump
would not recognize that the smart data was actually valid and would
dump weird output. The data has been fixed up and raw value support
was added. Tools like skdump and palimpsest work as expected.

Nothing prevented IRQ sharing on the ISA bus in principle. Not all
boards supported this, neither each and every card nor driver and OS.
Still, there existed valid IRQ sharing scenarios, (at least) two of them
can also be found in QEMU: >2 PC UARTs and the PREP IDE buses.
So remove this artificial restriction from our ISA model.

Define and use dedicated constants for vm_stop reasons, they actually
have nothing to do with the EXCP_* defines used so far. At this chance,
specify more detailed reasons so that VM state change handlers can
evaluate them.

Different AHCI controllers have a different number of ports, so the core
shouldn't care about the amount of ports available.
This patch makes the number of ports available to the AHCI core runtime
configurable, allowing us to have multiple different AHCI implementations
with different amounts of ports.

The ahci code was missing its soft reset functionality. This wasn't really an
issue for Linux guests, but Windows gets confused when the controller doesn't
reset when it tells it so.
Using this patch I can now successfully boot Windows 7 from AHCI using AHCI
enabled SeaBIOS.

The drive sends a d2h init fis on initialization. Usually, the guest doesn't
receive fises yet at that point though, so the delivery is deferred.
Let's reflect that by sending the init fis on fis receive enablement.

Sebastian's patch already did a pretty good job at splitting up ICH-9
AHCI code and the AHCI core. We need some more though. Copyright was missing,
the lspci dump belongs to ICH-9, we don't need the AHCI core to have its
own qdev device duplicate.
So let's split them a bit more in this patch, making things easier to
read an understand.

Before commit 622b520f, index=12 meant bus=1,unit=5.
Since the commit, it means bus=0,unit=12. The drive is created, but
not the guest device. That's because the controllers we use with
if=scsi drives (lsi53c895a and esp) support only 7 units, and
scsi_bus_legacy_handle_cmdline() ignores drives with unit numbers
exceeding that limit.
Changing the mapping of index to bus, unit is a regression. Breaking
-drive invocations that used to work just makes it worse.
Revert the part of commit 622b520f that causes this, and clean up
some.
Note that the fix only affects if=scsi. You can still put more than 7
units on a SCSI bus with -device & friends.

Merge ide_dma_submit_check into it's only caller. Also use tail recursion
using a goto instead of a real recursion - this avoid overflowing the
stack in the pathological situation of an recurring error that is ignored.
We'll still be busy looping in ide_dma_cb, but at least won't eat up
all stack space after this.

Currenly the code only resets the io_buffer_index field for reads,
but the code seems to expect this for all types of I/O. I guess
we simply don't hit large enough transfers that would require this
often enough.

We register the vm change state handler in a PCI BAR map() function.
This function can be called multiple times throughout the lifetime of a
PCI IDE device. This results in duplicate vm change state handlers
being register, none of which are ever unregistered.
Instead, register the vm change state handler in the device's init
function once and for all.
piix tested, cmd646 and via not tested.

We hook into transfer_start and immediately call the end function
for ahci. This means that everything needs to be in place for the
end function when we start the transfer, so let's move the function
down to where all state is in place.

As stated before, devices can be little, big or native endian. The
target endianness is not of their concern, so we need to push things
down a level.
This patch adds a parameter to cpu_register_io_memory that allows a
device to choose its endianness. For now, all devices simply choose
native endian, because that's the same behavior as before.

Whenever SSBM is reset in the command register all state information is lost.
Restarting DMA means that current_addr must be reset to the base address of the
PRD table. The OS is not required to change the base address register before
starting a DMA operation, it can reuse the value it wrote for an earlier
request.

Instead of always assuming success for bdrv_aio_flush, actually do something
with the error. This respects the werror option and accordingly ignores the
error, reports it to the guest or stops the VM and retries after cont.
Ignoring the error is trivial, obviously. For stopping the VM and retrying
later old code can be reused, but we need to introduce a new status for "retry
a flush". For reporting to the guest, fortunately the same action is required
as for a failed read/write (status = DRDY | ERR, error = ABRT), so this code
can be reused as well.

ATA does not only have the WCACHE enabled bit in identify word 85, but also
a WCACHE supported bit in word 82. While the Linux kernel is fine with the
latter at least hdparm also needs the former before correctly displaying
the cache settings. There's also a non-zero chance other operating systems
are more picky in their volatile write cache detection.

IDE is a bit ugly in this respect. For one it doesn't really keep track
of a sector size - most of the protocol is in units of 512 bytes, and we
assume 2048 bytes for CDROMs which is correct most of the time.
Second IDE allocates an I/O buffer long before we know if we're dealing
with a CDROM or not, so increase the alignment for the io_buffer
unconditionally.

The reason for not actually canceling the I/O is because with
virtualization and lots of VM running, a guest fs may mistake a
overload of the host, as an IDE timeout. So rather than canceling the
I/O, it's safer to wait I/O completion and simulate that the I/O has
completed just before the io cancellation was requested by the
guest. This way if ntfs or an app writes data without checking for
-EIO retval, and it thinks the write has succeeded, it's less likely
to run into troubles. Similar issues for reads.
Furthermore because the DMA operation is splitted into many synchronous
aio_read/write if there's more than one entry in the SG table, without this
patch the DMA would be cancelled in the middle, something we've no idea if it
happens on real hardware too or not. Overall this seems a great risk for zero
gain.
This approach is sure safer than previous code given we can't pretend all guest
fs code out there to check for errors and reply the DMA if it was completed
partially, given a timeout would never materialize on a real harddisk unless
there are defective blocks (and defective blocks are practically only an issue
for reads never for writes in any recent hardware as writing to blocks is the
way to fix them) or the harddisk breaks as a whole.

The GET EVENT STATUS NOTIFICATION is a mandatory command according
to MMC-3, even if event status notification is not supported.
This patch adds support for this command. It returns NEA ("No Event
Available") with an empty "Supported Event Classes" to show that it
doesn't event support status notification. If asychronous operation is
requested, which requires NCQ support, it returns an error according
to the specifications.
This fixes HAL support on FreeBSD and derivatives, which fill up the
logs every second with:
acd0: FAILURE - unknown CMD (0x03) ILLEGAL REQUEST asc=0x20 ascq=0x00

Disks without media make no sense. For SCSI, a Linux guest kernel
complains during boot. I didn't try other combinations.
scsi-generic doesn't need the additional check, because it already
requires bdrv_is_sg(), which fails without media.

Don't overwrite pci header type.
Otherwise, multi function bit which pci_init_header_type() sets
appropriately is lost.
Anyway PCI_HEADER_TYPE_NORMAL is zero, so it is unnecessary to zero
which is already zero cleared.
how to test:
run qemu and issue info pci to see whether a device in question is
normal device, not pci-to-pci bridge.
This is handy because guest os isn't required.

These will be used to generate unique id strings for ramblocks. The name
field is required, the device pointer is optional as most callers don't
have a device. When there's no device or the device isn't a child of
a bus implementing BusInfo.get_dev_path, the name should be unique for
the platform.

Drives defined with -drive if=ide get get created along with the IDE
controller, inside machine->init(). That's before cmos_init().
Drives defined with -device get created during generic device init.
That's after cmos_init(). Because of that, CMOS has no information on
them (type, geometry, translation). Older versions of Windows such as
XP reportedly choke on that.
Split off the part of CMOS initialization that needs to know about
-device devices, and turn it into a reset handler, so it runs after
device creation.

BlockDriverState member removable controls whether virtual media
change (monitor commands change, eject) is allowed. It is set when
the "type hint" is BDRV_TYPE_CDROM or BDRV_TYPE_FLOPPY.
The type hint is only set by drive_init(). It sets BDRV_TYPE_FLOPPY
for if=floppy. It sets BDRV_TYPE_CDROM for media=cdrom and if=ide,
scsi, xen, or none.
if=ide and if=scsi work, because the type hint makes it a CD-ROM.
if=xen likewise, I think.
For the same reason, if=none works when it's used by ide-drive or
scsi-disk. For other guest devices, there are problems:
* fdc: you can't change virtual media
$ qemu [...] -drive if=none,id=foo,... -global isa-fdc.driveA=foo
QEMU 0.12.50 monitor - type 'help' for more information
(qemu) eject foo
Device 'foo' is not removable
unless you add media=cdrom, but that makes it readonly.
* virtio: if you add media=cdrom, you can change virtual media. If
you eject, the guest gets I/O errors. If you change, the guest sees
the drive's contents suddenly change.
* scsi-generic: if you add media=cdrom, you can change virtual media.
I didn't test what that does to the guest or the physical device,
but it can't be pretty.

For instance, -device scsi-disk,drive=foo -device scsi-disk,drive=foo
happily creates two SCSI disks connected to the same block device.
It's all downhill from there.
Device usb-storage deliberately attaches twice to the same blockdev,
which fails with the fix in place. Detach before the second attach
there.
Also catch attempt to delete while a guest device model is attached.

Make the property point to BlockDriverState, cutting out the DriveInfo
middleman. This prepares the ground for block devices that don't have
a DriveInfo.
Currently all user-defined ones have a DriveInfo, because the only way
to define one is -drive & friends (they go through drive_init()).
DriveInfo is closely tied to -drive, and like -drive, it mixes
information about host and guest part of the block device. I'm
working towards a new way to define block devices, with clean
host/guest separation, and I need to get DriveInfo out of the way for
that.
Fortunately, the device models are perfectly happy with
BlockDriverState, except for two places: ide_drive_initfn() and
scsi_disk_initfn() need to check the DriveInfo for a serial number set
with legacy -drive serial=... Use drive_get_by_blockdev() there.
Device model code should now use DriveInfo only when explicitly
dealing with drives defined the old way, i.e. without -device.

All callers of ide_create_drive() ignore its value. Currently
harmless, because it fails only when qdev_init() fails, which fails
only when ide_drive_initfn() fails, which never fails.
Brittle. Change it to die instead of silently ignoring failure.

IDEState members drive_serial_str and version are now left empty until
an actual drive is connected. Before, they got a default value that
was overwritten when a drive got connected. Doesn't matter, because
they're used only while a drive is connected.

Commit 428c149b added IDEState member conf to let commit 0009baf1 find
the BlockConf from there. It exists only for qdev drives, created via
ide_drive_initfn(), not for drives created via ide_init2().
But for a qdev drive, we can just as well reach its IDEDevice, which
contains the BlockConf. Do that, and revert the parts of commit
428c149b that add IDEState member conf.
