Peter Maydell 78813586b0 virtfs-proxy-helper: Convert documentation to rST
The virtfs-proxy-helper documentation is currently in
fsdev/qemu-trace-stap.texi in Texinfo format, which we
present to the user as:
 * a virtfs-proxy-helper manpage
 * but not (unusually for QEMU) part of the HTML docs

Convert the documentation to rST format that lives in
the docs/ subdirectory, and present it to the user as:
 * a virtfs-proxy-helper manpage
 * part of the interop/ Sphinx manual

There are minor formatting changes to suit Sphinx, but no
content changes. In particular I've split the -u and -g
options into each having their own description text.

Peter Maydell e13c59fa44 qemu-img: Convert invocation documentation to rST
The qemu-img documentation is currently in qemu-nbd.texi in Texinfo
format, which we present to the user as:
 * a qemu-img manpage
 * a section of the main qemu-doc HTML documentation

Convert the documentation to rST format, and present it to the user as:
 * a qemu-img manpage
 * part of the interop/ Sphinx manual

The qemu-img rST document uses the new hxtool extension
to handle pulling rST fragments out of qemu-img-cmds.hx.

The documentation of the various options and commands is rather
muddled, with some options being described inside the relevant
command description and some in a more general section near the start
of the manual. All the command synopses are replicated in the .hx
file and then again in the manual. A lot of text is also duplicated
in the qemu-img.c code for the help text. I have not attempted to
deal with any of this, but have simply transposed the existing
structure into rST.

As usual, there are some minor formatting changes but no
textual changes, except that as with one or two other conversions
I have dropped the 'see also' section since it's not very
informative and looks odd in the HTML.

Aarushi Mehta 06a47ef57c stubs: add stubs for io_uring interface
Follow linux-aio.o and stub out the block/io_uring.o APIs that will be
missing when a binary is linked with obj-util-y but without
block-util-y (e.g. vhost-user-gpu).

For example, the stubs are necessary so that a binary using util/async.o
from obj-util-y for qemu_bh_new() links successfully. In this case
block/io_uring.o from block-util-y isn't needed and we can avoid
dragging in the block layer by linking the stubs instead. The stub
functions never get called.

Peter Maydell 87c0868f46 qemu-nbd: Convert invocation documentation to rST
The qemu-nbd documentation is currently in qemu-nbd.texi in Texinfo
format, which we present to the user as:
 * a qemu-nbd manpage
 * a section of the main qemu-doc HTML documentation

Convert the documentation to rST format, and present it to the user as:
 * a qemu-nbd manpage
 * part of the interop/ Sphinx manual

This follows the same pattern as commit 27a296fce9 did for the
qemu-ga manpage.

All the content of the old manpage is retained, except that I have
dropped the "This is free software; see the source for copying
conditions. There is NO warranty..." text that was in the old AUTHOR
section; Sphinx's manpage builder doesn't expect that much text in
the AUTHOR section, and since none of our other manpages have it it
seems easiest to delete it rather than try to figure out where else
in the manpage to put it.

The only other textual change is that I have had to give the
--nocache option its own description ("Equivalent to --cache=none")
because Sphinx doesn't have an equivalent of using item/itemx
to share a description between two options.

Some minor aspects of the formatting have changed, to suit what is
easiest for Sphinx to output. (The most notable is that Sphinx
option section option syntax doesn't support '--option foo=bar'
with bar underlined rather than bold, so we have to switch to
'--option foo=BAR' instead.)

The contents of qemu-option-trace.texi are now duplicated in
docs/interop/qemu-option-trace.rst.inc, until such time as we complete
the conversion of the other files which use it; since it has had only
3 changes in 3 years, this shouldn't be too awkward a burden.
(We use .rst.inc because if this file fragment has a .rst extension
then Sphinx complains about not seeing it in a toctree.)

Philippe Mathieu-Daudé 71920809ce gitlab-ci.yml: Add jobs to build EDK2 firmware binaries
Add two GitLab job to build the EDK2 firmware binaries.

The first job build a Docker image with the packages requisite
to build EDK2, and store this image in the GitLab registry.
The second job pull the image from the registry and build the
EDK2 firmware binaries.

The docker image is only rebuilt if the GitLab YAML or the
Dockerfile is updated.
The second job is only built when the roms/edk2/ submodule is
updated, when a git-ref starts with 'edk2' or when the last
commit contains 'EDK2'. The files generated are archived in
the artifacts.zip file.

With edk2-stable201905, it took 2 minutes 52 seconds to build
the docker image, and 36 minutes 28 seconds to generate the
artifacts.zip with the firmware binaries (filesize: 10MiB).

Add three files that were recently introduced in a refactoring,
that Malta emulation relies on. They are added by this patch
to Malta section, but they are not added to the general MIPS
section, since they are really not MIPS-specific, and there
may be some non-MIPS hardware using them in future.

Philippe Mathieu-Daudé d32dc61421 hw/mips: Deprecate the r4k machine
The r4k machine was introduced in 2005 (6af0bf9c7) and its last
logical change was in 2005 (9542611a6). After that, one can
count 164 maintenance commits (QEMU API changes) with the
exception of 1 fix in 2015 (memory leak, commit 3ad9fd5a).

This machine was introduced as a proof of concept to run a MIPS
CPU. Two years later, the Malta machine was added (commit
5856de80), modeling a real platform.

Note also this machine has no specification except 5 lines in
the header of this file:

 * emulates a simple machine with ISA-like bus.
 * ISA IO space mapped to the 0x14000000 (PHYS) and
 * ISA memory at the 0x10000000 (PHYS, 16Mb in size).
 * All peripherial devices are attached to this "bus" with
 * the standard PC ISA addresses.

The Linux kernel support for this machine has been dropped more
than 10 years ago in commit 302922e5.

It is time to deprecate this obsolete machine. Users are
recommended to use the Malta board, and its hardware is well
documented.

Jens Freimann 9711cd0dfc net/virtio: add failover support
This patch adds support to handle failover device pairs of a virtio-net
device and a (vfio-)pci device, where the virtio-net acts as the standby
device and the (vfio-)pci device as the primary.

The general idea is that we have a pair of devices, a (vfio-)pci and a
emulated (virtio-net) device. Before migration the vfio device is
unplugged and data flows to the emulated device, on the target side
another (vfio-)pci device is plugged in to take over the data-path. In the
guest the net_failover module will pair net devices with the same MAC
address.

To achieve this we need:

1. Provide a callback function for the should_be_hidden DeviceListener.
It is called when the primary device is plugged in. Evaluate the QOpt
passed in to check if it is the matching primary device. It returns
if the device should be hidden or not.
When it should be hidden it stores the device options in the VirtioNet
struct and the device is added once the VIRTIO_NET_F_STANDBY feature is
   negotiated during virtio feature negotiation.

If the virtio-net devices are not realized at the time the (vfio-)pci
devices are realized, we need to connect the devices later. This way
we make sure primary and standby devices can be specified in any
   order.

2. Register a callback for migration status notifier. When called it
will unplug its primary device before the migration happens.

3. Register a callback for the migration code that checks if a device
needs to be unplugged from the guest.

Laurent Vivier 04e7ca8d0f hw/m68k: define Macintosh Quadra 800
If you want to test the machine, it doesn't yet boot a MacROM, but you can
boot a linux kernel from the command line.

You can install your own disk using debian-installer with:

    ./qemu-system-m68k \
    -M q800 \
    -serial none -serial mon:stdio \
    -m 1000M -drive file=m68k.qcow2,format=qcow2 \
    -net nic,model=dp83932,addr=09:00:07:12:34:57 \
    -append "console=ttyS0 vga=off" \
    -kernel vmlinux-4.15.0-2-m68k \
    -initrd initrd.gz \
    -drive file=debian-9.0-m68k-NETINST-1.iso \
    -drive file=m68k.qcow2,format=qcow2 \
    -nographic

If you use a graphic adapter instead of "-nographic", you can use "-g"
to set the size of the display (I use "-g 1600x800x24").

Thomas Huth 0ba67974af tests/libqtest: Move global_test wrapper function into a separate header
We want libqtest.h to become completely independent from global_qtest
(so that the wrapper functions are not used by accident anymore). As
a first step, move the wrapper functions into a separate header file.

The new header is only included from libqtest.h for now, so that there
is no difference to the users of libqtest.h yet. In the next patch, we
will switch this, so that the users of the global_qtest-related
functions will be using libqtest-single.h directly and libqtest.h
becomes completely independent of this.

Markus Armbruster 54d31236b9 sysemu: Split sysemu/runstate.h off sysemu/sysemu.h
sysemu/sysemu.h is a rather unfocused dumping ground for stuff related
to the system-emulator. Evidence:

* It's included widely: in my "build everything" tree, changing
sysemu/sysemu.h still triggers a recompile of some 1100 out of 6600
objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on
qemu/osdep.h, down from 5400 due to the previous two commits).

* It pulls in more than a dozen additional headers.

Split stuff related to run state management into its own header
sysemu/runstate.h.

Touching sysemu/sysemu.h now recompiles some 850 objects. qemu/uuid.h
also drops from 1100 to 850, and qapi/qapi-types-run-state.h from 4400
to 4200. Touching new sysemu/runstate.h recompiles some 500 objects.

Since I'm touching MAINTAINERS to add sysemu/runstate.h anyway, also
add qemu/main-loop.h.

Markus Armbruster abb3d37d0c qapi: Split error.json off common.json
In my "build everything" tree, changing a type in qapi/common.json
triggers a recompile of some 3600 out of 6600 objects (not counting
tests and objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h).

One common dependency is QapiErrorClass: it's used only in in
qapi/error.h, which uses nothing else, and is widely included.

Move QapiErrorClass from common.json to new error.json. Touching
common.json now recompiles only some 2900 objects.

Hongbo Zhang 64580903c2 hw/arm: Add arm SBSA reference machine, skeleton part
For AArch64, the existing "virt" machine is primarily meant to
run on KVM and execute virtualization workloads, but we need an
environment as faithful as possible to physical hardware, for supporting
firmware and OS development for physical Aarch64 machines.

This patch introduces new machine type 'sbsa-ref' with main features:
 - Based on 'virt' machine type.
 - A new memory map.
 - CPU type cortex-a57.
 - EL2 and EL3 are enabled.
 - GIC version 3.
 - System bus AHCI controller.
 - System bus EHCI controller.
 - CDROM and hard disc on AHCI bus.
 - E1000E ethernet card on PCIE bus.
 - VGA display adaptor on PCIE bus.
 - No virtio devices.
 - No fw_cfg device.
 - No ACPI table supplied.
 - Only minimal device tree nodes.

Arm Trusted Firmware and UEFI porting to this are done accordingly,
and the firmware should supply ACPI tables to the guest OS. The
minimal device tree nodes supplied by QEMU for this platform are only
to pass the dynamic info reflecting command line input to firmware,
not for loading the guest OS.

To make the review easier, this task is split into two patches, the
fundamental skeleton part and the peripheral devices part; this patch is
the first part.

Kevin Wolf 1d95db745b monitor: Split out monitor/monitor.c
Move the monitor core infrastructure from monitor/misc.c to
monitor/monitor.c. This is code that can be shared for all targets, so
compile it only once.

What remains in monitor/misc.c after this patch is mostly monitor
command implementations (which could move to hmp-cmds.c or qmp-cmds.c
later) and code that requires a system emulator or is even
target-dependent (including HMP command completion code).

The amount of function and particularly extern variables in
monitor_int.h is probably a bit larger than it needs to be, but this way
no non-trivial code modifications are needed. The interfaces between all
monitor parts can be cleaned up later.

Peter Maydell 60905286cb ppc patch queue 2019-05-29
Next pull request against qemu-4.1. Highlights:
   * KVM accelerated support for the XIVE interrupt controller in PAPR
     guests
   * A number of TCG vector fixes
   * Fixes for the PReP / 40p machine
   * Improvements to make check-tcg test coverage

Other than that it's just a bunch of assorted fixes, cleanups and
 minor improvements.

This supersedes both the pull request dated 2019-05-21 and the one
dated 2019-05-22. I've dropped one hunk which I think may have caused
the check-tcg failure that Peter saw (by enabling the ppc64abi32
build, which I think has been broken for ages). I'm not entirely
certain, since I haven't reproduced exactly the same failure.

ppc patch queue 2019-05-29

Marc-André Lureau bd2e44fee4 vhost-user: add vhost_user_gpu_set_socket()
Add a new vhost-user message to give a unix socket to a vhost-user
backend for GPU display updates.

Back when I started that work, I added a new GPU channel because the
vhost-user protocol wasn't bidirectional. Since then, there is a
vhost-user-slave channel for the slave to send requests to the master.
We could extend it with GPU messages. However, the GPU protocol is
quite orthogonal to vhost-user, thus I chose to have a new dedicated
channel.

See vhost-user-gpu.rst for the protocol details.

Add a new virtio-input device, which connects to a vhost-user

Instead of reading configuration directly from an input device /

allowed managed sub-process spawning, but that has been dropped for

Eduardo Habkost 3fe13fe16e qtest: Move accel code to accel/qtest.c
QTest has two parts: the server (-qtest) and the accelerator
(-machine accel=qtest). The accelerator depends on CONFIG_POSIX
due to its usage of sigwait(), but the server doesn't.

Move the accel code to accel/qtest.c. Later we will disable
compilation of accel/qtest.c on non-POSIX systems.

Markus Armbruster 637de4dba2 qemu-print: New qemu_printf(), qemu_vprintf() etc.
We commonly want to print to the current monitor if we have one, else
to stdout/stderr. For stderr, have error_printf(). For stdout, all
we have is monitor_vfprintf(), which is rather unwieldy. We often
print to stderr just because error_printf() is easier.

New qemu_printf() and qemu_vprintf() do exactly what's needed. The
next commits will put them to use.

Laszlo Ersek 6739df3faf MAINTAINERS: add the "EDK2 Firmware" subsystem
We now have the edk2 submodule, somewhat elaborate build helpers for it,
and even a UEFI application written against edk2 whose genuine home is the
QEMU repository. Add the "EDK2 Firmware" subsystem such that all relevant
pathnames be covered.
