Richard Henderson 7e0cf8b47f target/arm: Convert division from feature bits to isar0 tests
Both arm and thumb2 division are controlled by the same ISAR field,
which takes care of the arm implies thumb case.  Having M imply
thumb2 division was wrong for cortex-m0, which is v6m and does not
have thumb2 at all, much less thumb2 division.

Richard Henderson 962fcbf2ef target/arm: Convert v8 extensions from feature bits to isar tests
Most of the v8 extensions are self-contained within the ISAR
registers and are not implied by other feature bits, which
makes them the easiest to convert.

Shivaprasad G Bhat 94894ff2d1 linux-user: elf: mmap all the target-pages of hostpage for data segment
If the hostpage size is greater than the TARGET_PAGESIZE, the
target-pages of size TARGET_PAGESIZE are marked valid only till the
length requested during the elfload. The glibc attempts to consume unused
space in the last page of data segment(__libc_memalign() in
elf/dl-minimal.c). If PT_LOAD p_align is greater than or
equal to hostpage size, the GLRO(dl_pagesize) is actually the host pagesize
as set in the auxillary vectors. So, there is no explicit mmap request for
the remaining target-pages on the last hostpage. The glibc assumes that
particular space as available and subsequent attempts to use
those addresses lead to crash as the target_mmap has not marked them valid
for those target-pages.

The issue is seen when trying to chroot to 16.04-x86_64 ubuntu on a PPC64
host where the fork fails to access the thread_id as it is allocated on a
page not marked valid. The recent glibc doesn't have checks for thread-id in
fork, but the issue can manifest somewhere else, none the less.

The fix here is to map all the target-pages of the hostpage during the
elfload if the p_align is greater than or equal to hostpage size, for
data segment to allow the glibc for proper consumption.

Sandipan Das be0c46d464 target-ppc: Extend HWCAP2 bits for ISA 3.0
This adds the HWCAP2 bit to detect if a linux user process is
running on an ISA 3.0 compliant cpu like POWER9. This can be
verified using a simple test program that prints the value in
the auxiliary vector for AT_HWCAP2 as shown below.

Before:

Laurent Vivier 33143c446e linux-user: fix ELF load alignment error
When we try to use some targets on ppc64, it can happen the target
doesn't support the host page size to align ELF load sections and
fails with:

  ELF load command alignment not page-aligned

Since commit a70daba377 ("linux-user: Tell guest about big host
page sizes") the host page size is used to align ELF sections, but
this doesn't work if the alignment required by the load section is
smaller than the host one.  For these cases, we continue to use the
TARGET_PAGE_SIZE instead of the host one.

I have tested this change on ppc64, and it fixes qemu linux-user for:
  s390x, m68k, i386, arm, aarch64, hppa
and I have tested it doesn't break the following targets:
  x86_64, mips64el, sh4
mips and mipsel abort, but I think for another reason.

load/store exclusive and load/store reg opcode spaces.
Rearrange the top-level decoders for these to accomodate.

Christophe Lyon a99856cd7f Remove CONFIG_USE_FDPIC.
We want to avoid code disabled by default, because it ends up less
tested. This patch removes all instances of #ifdef CONFIG_USE_FDPIC,
most of which can be safely kept. For the ones that should be
conditionally executed, we define elf_is_fdpic(). Without this patch,
defining CONFIG_USE_FDPIC would prevent QEMU from building precisely
because elf_is_fdpic is not defined.

Luke Shumaker 2a53535af4 linux-user: init_guest_space: Try to make ARM space+commpage continuous
At a fixed distance after the usable memory that init_guest_space maps, for
32-bit ARM targets we also need to map a commpage.  The normal
init_guest_space logic doesn't keep this in mind when searching for an
address range.

If !host_start, then try to find a big continuous segment where we can put
both the usable memory and the commpage; we then munmap that segment and
set current_start to that address; and let the normal code mmap the usable
memory and the commpage separately.  That is: if we don't have hint of
where to start looking for memory, come up with one that is better than
NULL.  Depending on host_size and guest_start, there may or may not be a
gap between the usable memory and the commpage, so this is slightly more
restrictive than it needs to be; but it's only a hint, so that's OK.

We only do that for !host start, because if host_start, then either:
 - we got an address passed in with -B, in which case we don't want to
   interfere with what the user said;
 - or host_start is based off of the ELF image's loaddr.  The check "if
   (host_start && real_start != current_start)" suggests that we really
   want lowest available address that is >= loaddr.  I don't know why that
   is, but I'm trusting that Paul Brook knew what he was doing when he
   wrote the original version of that check in
   c581deda32 way back in 2010.

Luke Shumaker aac362e46f linux-user: init_guest_space: Don't try to align if we'll reject it
If the ensure-alignment code gets triggered, then the
"if (host_start && real_start != current_start)" check will always trigger,
so save 2 syscalls and put that check first.

Note that we can't just switch to using MAP_FIXED for that check, because
then we couldn't differentiate between a failure because "there isn't
enough space" and "there isn't enough space *here*".

Luke Shumaker 293f206008 linux-user: init_guest_space: Clarify page alignment logic
There are 3 parts to this change:
 - Add a comment showing the relative sizes and positions of the blocks of
   memory
 - introduce and use new aligned_{start,size} instead of adjusting
   real_{start_size}
 - When we clean up (on failure), munmap(real_start, real_size) instead of
   munmap(aligned_start, aligned_size).  It *shouldn't* make any
   difference, but I will admit that this does mean we are making the
   syscall with different values, so this isn't quite a no-op patch.

Luke Shumaker e7ea02e62a linux-user: init_guest_space: Correctly handle guest_start in commpage initialization
init_guest_commpage  needs to check if the mapped space, which ends at
real_start+real_size overlaps with where it needs to put the commpage,
which is (assuming sane qemu_host_page_size) guest_base + 0xffff000, where
guest_base is real_start - guest_start.

    [       real_start      ][real_size] [commpage]
                                        ^
                                 fail if this gap < 0

Since init_guest_commpage wants to do everything relative to guest_base
(rather than real_start), it obviously needs to be comparing 0xffff0000
against guest_start+real_size, not just real_size.

This bug has been present since 806d102141 in
2012, but guest_start is usually 0, and prior to v2.11 real_size was
usually much smaller than 0xffff0000, so it was uncommon for it to have
made a difference.

Peter Maydell f516511ea8 linux-user: Fix calculation of auxv length
In commit 7c4ee5bcc8 we changed the order in which we construct
the AUXV, but forgot to adjust the calculation of the length. The
result is that we set info->auxv_len to a bogus and negative value,
and then later on the code in open_self_auxv() gets confused and
ends up presenting the guest with an empty file.

Since we now have to calculate the auxv length up-front as part
of figuring out how much we're going to put on the stack, set
info->auxv_len then; this allows us to assert that we put the
same number of entries into auxv as we pre-calculated, rather
than merely having a comment saying we need to do that.

Peter Maydell e568f9df08 linux-user: Allow -R values up to 0xffff0000 for 32-bit ARM guests
The 32-bit ARM validate_guest_space() check tests whether the
specified -R value leaves enough space for us to put the
commpage in at 0xffff0f00. However it was incorrectly doing
a <= check for the check against (guest_base + guest_size),
which meant that it wasn't permitting the guest space to
butt right up against the commpage.

Fix the comparison, so that -R values all the way up to 0xffff0000
work correctly.

Peter Maydell 82991bed73 linux-user: Put PPC AT_IGNOREPPC auxv entries in the right place
The 32-bit PPC auxv is a bit complicated because in the
mists of time it used to be 16-aligned rather than directly
after the environment. Older glibc versions had code to
try to probe for whether it needed alignment or not:

and the kernel has code which puts some magic entries at
the bottom to ensure that the alignment probe fails:

QEMU has similar code too, but it was broken by commit
7c4ee5bcc8, which changed elfload.c from filling in
the auxv starting at the highest address and working down
to starting at the lowest address and working up. This
means that the ARCH_DLINFO hook must now be invoked first
rather than last, and the entries in it for PPC must
be reversed so that the magic AT_IGNOREPPC entries come
at the lowest address in the auxv as they should.

The effect of this was that if running a guest binary that
used an old glibc with the alignment probing the guest ld.so
code would segfault if the size of the guest environment and
argv happened to put the auxv at an address that triggered
the alignment code in the guest glibc.

Stafford Horne d89e71e873 target/openrisc: implement shadow registers
Shadow registers are part of the openrisc spec along with sr[cid], as
part of the fast context switching feature.  When exceptions occur,
instead of having to save registers to the stack if enabled the CID will
increment and a new set of registers will be available.

This patch only implements shadow registers which can be used as extra
scratch registers via the mfspr and mtspr if required.  This is
implemented in a way where it would be easy to add on the fast context
switching, currently cid is hardcoded to 0.

This is need for openrisc linux smp kernels to boot correctly.

Peter Maydell 1e06262da6 linux-user: Use correct types in load_symbols()
Coverity doesn't like the code in load_symbols() which assumes
it can use 'int' for a variable that might hold an offset into
the guest ELF file, because in a 64-bit guest that could
overflow. Guest binaries with 2GB sections aren't very likely
and this isn't a security issue because we fully trust the
guest linux-user binary anyway, but we might as well use the
right types, which will placate Coverity. Use uint64_t to
hold section sizes, and bail out if the symbol table is too
large rather than just overflowing an int.

Michael Walle 58eb53083c linux-user: ppc64: fix ARCH_206 bit in AT_HWCAP
Only the POWER[789] CPUs should have the ARCH_206 bit set. This is what the
linux kernel does. I guess this was also the intention of commit 0e019746.
We have to make sure all *206 bits are set.

Before this patch, the flags check in the GET_FEATURES2 macro returned true
if _any_ bit was set. This worked well as long as there was only one bit
set in the 'flag' parameter. But as explained before, we have to make sure
all bits in the 'flag' parameter are set.

The #defines of ARM_cpsr and friends in linux-user/arm/target-syscall.h
can clash with versions in the system headers if building on an
ARM or AArch64 build (though this seems to be dependent on the version
of the system headers). The QEMU defines are not very useful (it's
not clear that they're intended for use with the target_pt_regs struct
rather than (say) the CPUARMState structure) and we only use them in one
function in elfload.c anyway. So just remove the #defines and directly
access regs->uregs[].

Paolo Bonzini 0c2d70c448 translate-all: ensure host page mask is always extended with 1's
Anthony reported that >4GB guests on Xen with 32bit QEMU broke after
commit 4ed023c ("Round up RAMBlock sizes to host page sizes", 2015-11-05).

In that patch sizes are masked against qemu_host_page_size/mask which
are uintptr_t, and thus 32bit on a 32bit QEMU, even though the ram space
might be bigger than 4GB on Xen.

Since ram_addr_t is not available on user-mode emulation targets, ensure
that we get a sign extension when masking away the low bits of the address.
Remove the ~10 year old scary comment that the type of these variables
is probably wrong, with another equally scary comment.  The new comment
however does not have "???" in it, which is arguably an improvement.

For completeness use the alignment macros in linux-user and bsd-user
instead of manually doing an &.  linux-user and bsd-user are not affected
by the Xen issue, however.

Markus Armbruster c78d65e8a7 linux-user: Use g_new() & friends where that makes obvious sense
g_new(T, n) is neater than g_malloc(sizeof(T) * n).  It's also safer,
for two reasons.  One, it catches multiplication overflowing size_t.
Two, it returns T * rather than void *, which lets the compiler catch
more type errors.

This commit only touches allocations with size arguments of the form
sizeof(T).  Same Coccinelle semantic patch as in commit b45c03f.

Peter Crosthwaite b597c3f7da arm: Remove ELF_MACHINE from cpu.h
The only generic code relying on this is linux-user. Linux user
already has a lot of #ifdef TARGET_ customisation so instead, define
ELF_ARCH as either EM_ARM or EM_AARCH64 appropriately.

The armv7m bootloader can just pass EM_ARM directly, as that
is architecture specific code. Note that arm_boot already has its own
logic selecting an arm specific elf machine so this makes V7M more
consistent with arm_boot.

This removes another architecture specific definition from the global
namespace.

default define as such, so only archs with special handling (usually
allowing multiple EM values) need to provide a def.

Arches that do any of:

1: provide this def exactly the same way as the new default
        (alpha, x86_64)
2: check against ELF_MACHINE while defining ELF_ARCH == ELF_MACHINE
        (arm, aarch64)
3: check against EM_FOO directly while defining ELF_ARCH == EM_FOO
        (unicore32, sparc32, ppc32, mips, openrisc, sh4, cris, m86k)

have their elf_check_arch removed as the default will provide the
correct behaviour.

Laurent Vivier 4cbea59869 linux-user: remove --enable-guest-base/--disable-guest-base
All tcg host architectures now support the guest base and as
there is no real performance lost, it can be always enabled.

Anyway, guest base use can be disabled lively by setting guest
base to 0.

CONFIG_USE_GUEST_BASE is defined as (USE_GUEST_BASE && USER_ONLY),
it should have to be replaced by CONFIG_USER_ONLY in non CONFIG_USER_ONLY
parts, but as some other parts are using !CONFIG_SOFTMMU I have chosen to
use !CONFIG_SOFTMMU instead.

Mikhail Ilyin 1a1c4db9b2 translate-all.c: memory walker initial address miscalculation
The initial base address is miscalculated in walk_memory_regions().
It has to be shifted TARGET_PAGE_BITS more. Holder variables are
extended to target_ulong size otherwise they don't fit for MIPS N32
(a 32-bit ABI with a 64-bit address space) and qemu won't compile.
The issue led to incorrect debug output of memory maps and a
mis-formed coredumped file.

Tom Musta 623e250abd linux-user: Correct AUXV Cache Line Sizes for PowerPC
Set the AT_ICACHEBSIZE and AT_DCACHEBSIZE entries of the AUXV to match the
CPU model's cache line sizes.  This fixes memory clobbering problems on more
recent Book 3s implementations; memset(p, 0, N) will use the dcbz instruction
when N is sufficiently large and many of the newer server CPUs have cache lines
sizes of 128 bytes.

Alexander Graf a70daba377 linux-user: Tell guest about big host page sizes
We tell the guest its page size via AUX vectors. The guest process then uses
this page size as information on which boundaries it can mmap() things.

However, if the host has a bigger page size granularity than the guest, it can
not fulfill these mmap() requests - which falls apart when MAP_FIXED is passed
to mmap.

So in that case, let the guest know that we're running on a bigger page size
granularity than the target would require.

This fixes running qemu-ppc (TARGET_PAGE_SIZE=4k) on a 64k page size ppc64 host
for me.

Tom Musta f46e9a0b99 target-ppc: Confirm That .bss Pages Are Valid
The existing code does a check to ensure that a .bss region is properly
mmap'd.  When additional mmap is required, the (guest) pages are also
validated.  However, this code has a bug: when host page size is larger
than target page size, it is possible for the .bss pages to already be
(host) mapped but the guest .bss pages may not be valid.

The check to mmap additional space is separated from the flagging of the
target (guest) pages, thus ensuring that both aspects are done properly.

The ARM target-specific code in elfload.c was incorrectly allowing
the 64-bit ARM target to use most of the existing 32-bit definitions:
most noticably this meant that our HWCAP bits passed to the guest
were wrong, and register handling when dumping core was totally
broken. Fix this by properly separating the 64 and 32 bit code,
since they have more differences than similarities.

Peter Maydell 2468265465 linux-user/elfload.c: Update ARM HWCAP bits
The kernel has added support for a number of new ARM HWCAP bits;
add them to QEMU, including support for setting them where we have
a corresponding CPU feature bit.

We were also incorrectly setting the VFPv3D16 HWCAP -- this means
"only 16 D registers", not "supports 16-bit floating point format";
since QEMU always has 32 D registers for VFPv3, we can just remove
the line that incorrectly set this bit.

The kernel does not set the HWCAP_FPA even if it is providing FPA
emulation via nwfpe, so don't set this bit in QEMU either.

Meador Inge 806d102141 linux-user: Use init_guest_space when -R and -B are specified
Roll the code used to initialize the guest memory space when -R
or -B is used into 'init_guest_space' and then call 'init_guest_space'
from the driver.  This way the reserved guest memory space can
be probed for.  Calling 'mmap' just once as is currently done is not
guaranteed to succeed since the host address space validation might fail.

Paul Brook d8fd295499 Userspace ARM BE8 support
Add support for ARM BE8 userspace binaries.
i.e. big-endian data and little-endian code.
In principle LE8 mode is also possible, but AFAIK has never actually
been implemented/used.

System emulation doesn't have any useable big-endian board models,
but should in principle work once you fix that.
Dynamic endianness switching requires messing with data accesses,
preferably with TCG cooperation, and is orthogonal to BE8 support.

Alexander Graf 125b0f55b6 linux-user: save auxv length
We create our own AUXV segment on stack and save a pointer to it.
However we don't save the length of it, so any code that wants to
do anything useful with it later on has to walk it again.

Instead, let's remember the length of our AUXV segment. This
simplifies later uses by a lot.

Stefan Weil c7c530cd3e elf: Improve symbol lookup (optimize, fix for bsd-user)
Coverity complained about local variable key which was only partially
initiated. Only key.st_value was set. As this was also the only part
of key which was used in function symfind, the code could be optimized
by directly passing a pointer to orig_addr.

In bsd-user/elfload.c, fix ec822001a2
was missing. This was a simple replacement of > by >= in symfind, so
I fixed it here without creating an additional patch.

Peter Maydell 7dd47667b9 linux-user/elfload.c: Don't memset(NULL..) if malloc() failed
If a malloc() in copy_elf_strings() failed we would call memset()
before the "did malloc fail?" check. Fix this by moving to the
glib alloc/free routines for this memory so we can use g_try_malloc0
rather than having a separate memset(). Spotted by Coverity (see
bug 887883).

Laurent ALFONSI 14322bad88 linux-user: Define AT_RANDOM to support target stack protection mechanism.
The dynamic linker from the GNU C library v2.10+ uses the ELF
auxiliary vector AT_RANDOM [1] as a pointer to 16 bytes with random
values to initialize the stack protection mechanism.  Technically the
emulated GNU dynamic linker crashes due to a NULL pointer
derefencement if it is built with stack protection enabled and if
AT_RANDOM is not defined by the QEMU ELF loader.

[1] This ELF auxiliary vector was introduced in Linux v2.6.29.

Peter Maydell f3ed1f5d47 linux-user: Handle images where lowest vaddr is not page aligned
Fix a bug in the linux-user ELF loader code where it was not correctly
handling images where the lowest vaddr to be loaded was not page aligned.
The problem was that the code to probe for a suitable guest base address
was changing the 'loaddr' variable (by rounding it to a page boundary),
which meant that the load bias would then be incorrectly calculated
unless loaddr happened to already be page-aligned.

Binaries generated by gcc with the default linker script do start with
a loadable segment at a page-aligned vaddr, so were unaffected. This
bug was noticed with a binary created by the Google Go toolchain for ARM.

We fix the bug by refactoring the "probe for guest base" code out into
its own self-contained function.

Richard Henderson 8e62a71738 linux-user: Extract load_elf_image from load_elf_interp.
Moving toward a single copy of the elf binary loading code.
Fill in the details of the loaded image into a struct image_info.

Adjust create_elf_tables to read from such structures instead
of from a collection of passed arguments.  Don't return error
values from load_elf_interp; always exit(-1) with a message to
stderr.  Collect elf_interpreter handling in load_elf_binary
to a common spot.

Richard Henderson b9329d4b53 linux-user: Remove partial support for a.out interpreters.
At the bottom of the a.out support was the unimplemented load_aout_interp
function.  There were other portions of the support that didn't look
right; when I went to look in the Linux kernel for clarification, I found
that the support for such interpreters has been removed from binfmt_elf.
There doesn't seem to be any reason to keep this broken support in qemu.

First, adjust load_symbols to accept a load_bias parameter.  At the same
time, read the entire section header table in one go, use pread instead
f lseek+read for the symbol and string tables, and properly free
allocated structures on error exit paths.

Second, adjust load_elf_interp to compute load_bias.  This requires
finding out the built-in load addresses.  Which allows us to honor a
pre-linked interpreter image when possible, and eliminate the hard-coded
INTERP_MAP_SIZE value.

I caught padzero not properly initializing the .bss segment
on a statically linked Alpha program.  Rather than a minimal
patch, replace the gross code with a single mmap+memset.

Share more code between load_elf_interp and load_elf_binary.

Legally, an ELF program need not have just a single .bss;
and PT_LOAD segment can have memsz > filesz.
