PR23938, should not free memory alloced in obstack by free()
This removes ineffectual and wrong code caching section names in
gas/stabs.c. Code like
seg = subseg_new (name, 0);
...
if (seg->name == name)
seg->name = xstrdup (name);
with the idea of being able to unconditionally free "name" later no
longer works. "name" is referenced by the section hash table as well
as in the section->name field. It would be possible to use
"bfd_rename_section (stdoutput, seg, xstrdup (name))", but instead I
opted for a fairly straight-forward approach of adding extra
parameters to two functions to indicate section name strings should be
freed if possible.

Move struc-symbol.h to symbols.c
This file was never supposed to be widely used. The fact that it has
found its way into many gas files led to bugs, typically when code
expecting a symbolS* to point at a struct symbol is presented with a

PR21167, relocation sections not included in groups
This fixes a wart I've known about for years, but haven't done anything about because BFD treats relocation sections as an adjunct to the section they relocate. SHF_GROUP on the section thus implicitly applies to its relocation section(s), but it is an error that the reloc sections aren't part of the group. Like many patches to gas, this wasn't as straightforward as it could be due to a number of backends, i386, cr16 and others, removing relocs in tc_get_reloc rather than marking them as "done" earlier in md_apply_reloc. So it isn't possible for the group support to reliably detect the presence of relocs by looking at fixups earlier than write_relocs. However the group support needs to create signature symbols, and that must be done before the symbol table is frozen, before write_relocs. So split off the group sizing from elf_adjust_symtab and put it in elf_frob_file_after_relocs. bfd/ PR 21167 * elf.c (_bfd_elf_setup_sections): Don't trim reloc sections from groups. Support ELF SHF_GNU_MBIND and PT_GNU_MBIND_XXX
Mark an ALLOC section, which should be placed in special memory area,
with SHF_GNU_MBIND. Its sh_info field indicates the special memory
type. GNU_MBIND section names start with ".mbind" so that they are
placed as orphan sections by linker. All input GNU_MBIND sections
with the same sh_type, sh_flags and sh_info are placed in one output
GNU_MBIND section. In executable and shared object, create a
GNU_MBIND segment for each GNU_MBIND section and its segment type is
PT_GNU_MBIND_LO plus the sh_info value. Each GNU_MBIND segment is
aligned at page boundary.

GAS: Add ECOFF `.aent' pseudo-op support
Implement the ECOFF `.aent' pseudo-op for ECOFF-style `.mdebug' section
support with ELF objects and, for consistency, also with ECOFF objects.
This is so that the same MIPS source can be assembled without and with
`.mdebug' section generation enabled.
Taking the `gas/testsuite/gas/mips/aent.s' test case source as an
example and the `mips-linux' target we have:
$ as -o aent.o aent.s
$ as -mdebug -o aent.o aent.s
aent.s: Assembler messages:
aent.s:10: Error: unknown pseudo-op: `.aent'
$
because for the !ECOFF_DEBUGGING case (which is the default) the
pseudo-op is already handled by the MIPS backend with `s_mips_ent',
however no handler is present for the opposite case.
For the MIPS target this is a functional regression introduced with
commit

gas: section name substitution sequence
This patch adds the ability to automatically construct a section name based on the prior section. When gas is invoked with --sectname-subst, the occurrence of %S in a section name will be substituted by the name of the current section. For example: .macro exception_code .pushsection %S.exception [exception code here] .popsection .endm .text [code] exception_code [...] .section .init [init code] exception_code [...] The first and second exception_code invocations create the .text.exception and the .init.exception sections respectively. Run write_object_file after errors
This is to fix unitialised memory access when printing listings. Many targets don't initialise parts of insn frags or data frags that have fixups, relying on md_apply_fix to finalise the frag. Which is fine normally, but means we need to run write_object_file after errors, for listings. Otherwise MALLOC_PERTURB_=1 causes errors like: x86_64-linux +FAIL: i386 mpx-inval-1 x86_64-linux +FAIL: i386 inval-equ-1 x86_64-linux +FAIL: i386 x86-64-mpx-inval-1 Running write_object_file after errors requires some tweaking to the testsuite, since we then get extra errors reported from md_apply_fix. gas/ * write.h (subsegs_finish): Delete declaration. * write.c (subsegs_finish): Make static. (write_object_file): Call subsegs_finish from here. Don't print warning and error count here.. * as.c (main): ..do so here instead. Remove dead code for "no object file generated". Split out count strings to better support internationalisation. Don't call subsegs_finish. Tidy setting of "keep_it". Run write_object_file even after errors.
